Afternoon all!! As always, NO SPOILERS PLEASE!

Ideally Lewis would be today's #1 though I don't really mind Blinding Lights, a far better chart battle than we had last week...!

Never realised Ashanti was so close to number one. Such a shame that a re-release prevented her from the top spot

Rooting for The Weeknd over Lewis this week, but I'm pretty sure The Weeknd will get there eventually with the sales he has the way he's climbing on Spotify

I'd forgotten about 'Fireflies' by Owl City from 10 years ago. It's a bit of a bland song.

Number 1 today should be 'Blinding Lights' by The Weeknd. The intro still sounds a bit like 'Take On Me' by a-ha, all the way back to 1985!

Missed the top 40 this week?

Kygo, Avicii and Sandro Cavazza
Forever Yours

Non-album single
Released: 24th January 2020
Label: Ineffable Music

Biography

Kygo
Kygo turned the dance-music world on its ear in the simplest way possible: by slowing down. The Norwegian producer (born Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll in 1991) cut his teeth crafting bootleg remixes of songs like Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” and James Blake’s “The Wilhelm Scream”, fleshing out the originals with contrasting touches: EDM drops inspired by his fondness for Avicii and ruminative melodies reflective of his childhood piano studies. In 2013, layering an a cappella of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” over dancing marimbas and a teasingly measured 4/4 beat, he hit upon his slow-motion signature. The following year, he was called up to replace an ailing Avicii on Tomorrowland’s main stage, and his relaxed, sunny vibe stopped EDM’s harder-faster-louder ethos in its tracks. Kygo’s dreamy, pioneering tropical house—encapsulated in singles like the lilting “Firestone” and his even-more-weightless remix of a-ha’s “Take On Me”—cast its influence across the pop music landscape, reaching as far as Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber’s smash, “Where Are Ü Now”, and securing Kygo collabs with Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Miguel and Imagine Dragons. - iTunes

Avicii
Tim Bergling (Swedish: [ˈtɪmː ˇbærjlɪŋ] (About this soundlisten); 8 September 1989 – 20 April 2018), known professionally as Avicii (/əˈviːtʃi/ ə-VEE-chee, Swedish: [aˈvɪtːɕɪ]), was a Swedish DJ, electronic musician, and songwriter who specialized in audio programming, remixing and record producing.

At the age of 16, Bergling began posting his remixes on electronic music forums, which led to his first record deal. He rose to prominence in 2011 with his single "Levels". His debut studio album, True (2013), blended electronic music with elements of multiple genres and received generally positive reviews. It peaked in the top ten in more than fifteen countries and topped international dance charts; the lead single, "Wake Me Up", topped most music markets in Europe and reached number four in the United States.

In 2015, Bergling released his second studio album, Stories, and in 2017 he released an EP, Avīci (01). His catalog also included the singles "I Could Be the One" with Nicky Romero, "You Make Me", "X You", "Hey Brother", "Addicted to You", "The Days", "The Nights", "Waiting for Love", "Without You" and "Lonely Together". Bergling was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on "Sunshine" with David Guetta in 2012 and "Levels" in 2013. Several music publications credit Bergling as among the DJs who ushered electronic music into Top 40 radio in the early 2010s.

Bergling retired from touring in 2016 due to health problems, having suffered stress and poor mental health for several years. On 20 April 2018, Bergling died by suicide in Muscat, Oman. He was buried on 8 June in his hometown of Stockholm. His posthumous third album titled Tim was released in 2019.

Sandro Cavazza
Sporting a wide vocal range and soulful delivery, Sandro Cavazza is a pop singer and songwriter from Sweden. He began singing in early childhood and tried writing his first songs while still in primary school. He went on to study at the Los Angeles College of Music, where he co-founded the alternative pop group Bonavox with musicians from Germany, Brazil, and Indonesia. They released a self-titled EP in 2014 before Cavazza finished school and left the band to pursue other projects. He co-wrote two songs for the Avicii album Stories, issued in the fall of 2015. He also co-wrote the tropical house tune "Beautiful Life" by EDM producer Lost Frequencies, which featured Cavazza on vocals. Upon its release in June 2016, it charted in several European countries, hitting number one in Belgium. Cavazza made his solo debut in the spring of 2017 on Interscope with the Sandro Cavazza EP. - iTunes

Biography

SAINt JHN is the shadowy, slow jam-oriented recording alias of Brooklyn native Carlos St. John. A rapper, singer, and songwriter, St. John kick-started his career during the mid-2010s by co-composing material for Kiesza ("Bad Thing," "The Love," "Piano"), Nico & Vinz (the single "Praying to a God"), Gorgon City ("Doubts"), and Usher ("Crash"), a sequence of advancements catalyzed by industry veteran Zach Katz, who had heard an early song St. John granted to a fellow fledgling artist. As St. John continued to rack up songwriting credits for other artists, he started issuing his own material independently in 2016. Among the tracks that caught on most were "Roses" and "Reflex." "3 Below" and "Some Nights" followed in 2017, the year he also co-wrote "Helicopters/Beware" for Jidenna and "Can't Wait" for dvsn. St. John's own "I Heard You Got Too Litt Last Night" was released in 2018. That track, along with a handful of previously released singles, landed on his debut full-length, Collection One. Quickly following with fresh material, he released "McDonalds Rich" and "White Parents Are Gonna Hate This" before year end. - iTunes
