Dexton's Top 40 (26/12/2017) (Week 33)
Decline doesn't decline! This week we have another new #1 at RAYE's Decline featuring Mr Eazi jumps (4-1), knocking Craig David off his peak a week after he did the same to Camila Cabello. I fell in love with Decline the first time I heard it and it's done nothing but grow on me more & more each time. Decline interpolates Ja Rule's Always On Time (another great song) and reminds me of some other great songs this year to have benefited from the use of the hits of yesteryear. James Hype's More Than Friends, Starley's Touch Me, DJ Khaled's Wild Thoughts, Katy Perry's Swish Swish, and of course Portugal. The Man's Feel It Still spring to mind when thinking of modern takes on older music. Camila falls to #4 and Jax Jone's stays at #3, whilst Sia earns her first Top 5 hit with Candy Cane Lane which - unlike almost every other Christmas song in my chart this week - has climbed. Three new entries to the Top 10 come from Lily Allen's comeback soon-to-be hit Trigger Bang featuring Giggs at #7, Eminem's worldwide almost #1 River featuring Ed Sheeran at #8, and Not3s breakout single My Lover at #10 - boosted slightly by Mabel's remix (which is growing on me ). There's a lot of build-up towards Christmas and as soon as the clock strikes Boxing Day all that holly jolly momentum comes crashing down, which has given way for new peaks for: N.E.R.D. & Rihanna, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Pink, Eminem (x2), G-Eazy & Halsey, and Dua Lipa. Fighting against the trend, however, is Wham!'s Last Christmas which climbs to #13 from #16 following the posthumous campaign to make George Michael's heartful Christmas classic an official UK #1. Joining Lily Allen's aforementioned Trigger Bang featuring Giggs in this weeks new entries is a surprisingly good medley of Imagine Dragons' Thunder and Khalid's Young Dumb & Broke at #16. They performed a mashup of the new songs at the AMA's last month, and released a studio version of the medley last week which works very well. Despite previously appearing on my chart on three different songs, Khalid has not yet actually entered with a song which he holds solo credit. Young Dumb & Broke failed to chart here, but that's not to say I don't enjoy it - and I like it even more now with this mashup. It's also worth noting that Imagine Dragons have now appeared on my chart a total of 4 times - 3 of which have been with the same song. The original version of Thudner charted here long ago, and then again as the K.Flay Remix, and now once more in the Khalid medley. In hindsight, the K.Flay remix should've been added on to the original version (like my My Lover is charting) but oh well. Paramore's Fake Happy also enters at #36. With Christmas songs getting little-to-no plays this coming week it's very likely that all 8 Christmas songs in the chart will drop out, pathing the way for many new entries! Some artists hoping to score their first chart entries are Tom Walker, Charli XCX, Rojdar, & PNAU! Over in the albums chart we see... absolutely nothing really. No new or re-entries in a relatively quiet week, resulting in Eminem holding on to #1 for a second week. The Killers & Sia switch places at #4 & #5, whilst (again) The Killers & Taylor Swift switch places at #9 & #10. Pink's Beautiful Trauma reached a new peak this week of #24 coming from the album of the same name, which also brought us What About Us. I liked What About Us at first but after a while it soon got tired and I admit I skip it the majority of the time now in favour of much better album tracks. Revenge seems to be the next obvious single after Beautiful Trauma, but I feel as though it won't make much of an impact without heavy promotion - as the novelty of having Eminem feature has worn off since most people will have cherry-picked it upon album release. Secrets has potential though Thanks for reading! Top 40 Songs (#33) 01 04 RAYE Decline (feat. Mr Eazi) [19-6-4-1] 02 01 Craig David I Know You (feat. Hi Dexton!
Nice choice of #1 Wonder how high it can reach in the new year officially? Would be great to see Breathe get a new peak here next week, loving this new style of music Strongest is probably the best thing I've heard from Ina I think, hit me on the very first listen Great chart |

Hello Dexton!
Great #1! Love to see the big gains of "River", "Lemon" and "Beautiful Trauma"! As for the debuts: "Trigger Bang": Good song, I've added this to my playlist, might chart soon! "Thunder/Young Dumb & Broke": Surprisingly good medley! "Fake Happy": Good song, not my favourite though from their new album. Great chart overall! |

Hi!
Great number 1! should be a decent hit for her next year! Nice to see Trigger Bang enter top 10, quite enjoying it atm so it'd be a shame if it wasn't a hit Actually really liking My Lover, not usually something I'm into but Mabel's parts are fab Looove that YD&B/Thunder medley, weird how well they work together Great Chart! |

"Thunder/Young Dumb & Broke": Surprisingly good medley! "Fake Happy": Good song, not my favourite though from their new album. Great chart overall! Hey sergej! Decline is brilliant River, Lemon & Beautiful Trauma should keep climbing into the new year! Trigger Bang has grown on me a lot since I first heard it. Lily Allen has changed a lot since 2007 (or whatever) Fake Happy has revived my interest in After Laughter this past few weeks (so much so that it'll be in my album chart next week ). Hard Times is still a clear favourite for me, being one of my favourite releases of the year, followed closely by Rose-Coloured Boy & Fake Happy. As for album tracks, Forgiveness & Caught In The Middle are superb Thanks for commenting! Hi! Great number 1! should be a decent hit for her next year! Hey Bridge! I hope so! I think Trigger Bang will make Top 40 in the new year, it probably won't go higher than say Top 20 but a decent-sized hit for Lily Allen would be great My Lover is great too! I really wasn't expecting much from that medley! I saw that there was a studio version of what they performed at the awards show and thought "no way does that work!". Then...it worked! I think I prefer the respective originals of course, but a great mashup from two great artists! Thanks for commenting! |
