BuzzJack Music Forum _ Buzzjack Song Contest _ Top 100 of Buzzjack 2016

Posted by: popchartfreak 2nd December 2016, 08:49 PM

Coming soon, but as a taster, first off the awards for Countries Of The Year:

In top spot, with 6 hits in the 100, is Trifoski, consistent throughout the year, and a fair way out in front to boot.

With fab support, though, 4 hits to be featured, are Medhelnia and Aeroche, who both had a marvellous year.

That leaves the pretty good list of nations with a hat-trick of entries: Fljotavik, Botannika, Yehesi, Ultraviolenceland, FSR Rontvia, Jadakissnia, Summericia/Eeyoreonadoor well-done all cheer.gif

Another 23 countries have 2 spots in the list, so my maths means another 22 have 1 entry only, for a total of 54 nations on the list. Our chart list of buzzjack songs that entered the chart during the year runs to about 150 or so, so if you dont get a namecheck you must be just outside the 100, oops! Sorry!

But just WHICH of your songs did I love more than others?! ohmy.gif

100. peak: 69* 2wks GREGORY’S THEME Basto (South Danaelanda 90)

Fab and tuneful dance instrumental, this one is still in my charts and climbing, and will end the year higher than this, but it's a great way to start the countdown. First of 2 for (South) Danaelanda....

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 10:25 AM

99. peak: 52 4wks DOPE Beware Of Darkness (seyetana 87)

A Terrific and under-appreciated riffy bit of rock, should have qualified for the 87 final. This track is, of course, DOPE. Woo get me all using trendy words laugh.gif 1st of 2 Izzies.

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 10:33 AM

98. peak: 63 4wks BON BON Era Istrefi (Yehesi 82)

A typically Yehesi catchy sultry dancepop toon, and one that has done pretty well in Europe subsequently, this is the non-English version with the wintry video. Should have been a UK hit too. First of 3 for Yehesi.

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 10:38 AM

97. peak: 57 5wks SCOPE MissingNo (Jadakissnia 88)

Played this in the car yesterday, still sounding good, should have been called Stuck On You though, but it shows how speeded-up vocals can work when done right. Love the chiming arrangements and beats. First of 3 for Jadakissnia.

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 10:54 AM

96. peak: 56 3wks GHOST Matilda (Greenfroze 87)

It wouldn't be a 2016 listing without at least ONE entry with the word "Ghost" in it, and here it is, that one with the great singalong chorus. First of 2 for Greenfroze...

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 11:02 AM

95. peak: 70 5wks I WANT YOU TO SHAKE/THE SHAKE (SOMEWHERE IN THE BALLPARK) Francis And The Lights (pi 89)

Francis And The Lights have been great this year, and Pavel has been a supporter quite rightly. This quirky funky track should have qualified, though I suspect the awesome Friends or See Her Out might have got a bit more BJ support.

Posted by: Weiss Schnee 3rd December 2016, 11:41 AM

Something in here and it's Dope <3 I didn't call that appearing in any EOYs, definitely right that it got underrated, that riff is undeniable - to me. Scope is an amazing entry too.

Posted by: Slade 3rd December 2016, 11:55 AM

Ooh one of my entries *.* Glad you took to 'Scope', John! Listening to it in the car is something I'm yet to do but I should do at some point. Also agree that the beats/chiming arrangements make for very strong production.

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 02:35 PM

94. peak: 53 3wks MIRROR MIRROR Jeff Williams featuring Casey Lee Williams (Seyetana 82)

second and final (sadly) entry from the always-interesting Seyetana, this one is what I call "ambitious", sedate orchestral and haunting Casey-Lee Williams vocals mixed-in with swirling all-in upbeat bits. Should have got Robbie Williams in too for a Williams trio....

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 02:41 PM

93. peak: 71* 3wks ALGA Ignea (Summericia 90)

Talking of swirling orchestral pieces, I had to double-check this wasn't another Seyetana entry! It's Summericia doing a rock/orchestra combo, with bonus hookie female vocal, and another epic-ambitious entry to my chart (*still climbing, will go higher). I must say, given we are only at 93 and I am loving all the entries already, that shows how much I rated 2016 BJSC entries.

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 02:49 PM

92. peak: 58 4wks WHITE FLAG Joseph (Harmonica 89)

Pure American country-pop singalong delight this one, with a very catchy hook. With a bit of good-timing could easily be a hit in some regions, or at least home-state Oregon for the 3 sisters. Sadly just the one chart entry for Harmonica, boo!

Posted by: popchartfreak 3rd December 2016, 02:57 PM

91. peak: 50 3wks DON’T BE SHY (FILATOV & KARAS REMIX) Imany (Dobago 81)

Throbbing fab dance track, in remix form, from Imany - a good French singer - and I am in no way biased by the backdrop scenery to the cavorting model in the video which is pretty much similar to what I saw at the beach in Singapore when I was a lad. Dobago's sole entry is a good way to round-off the bottom 10....

yay I want You to Shake. Sadly it's probably the only entry of mine here

Hi Rob, Ignea is still climbing so will end up higher in the chart - now I don't know whether I should use Aeyundore or Summericia for the other tracks in the list. I can't confirm which it is (though she is still in my chart laugh.gif bit of a clue) but actually I forgot about the name change and miscounted, so you have a trio of entries, one more to look forward to! Not due anytime on the list soon though so don't hold your breath for a bit. Just correcting the header blurb now cool.gif

Posted by: XMAS Rob S~ 3rd December 2016, 03:33 PM

Oh alright tongue.gif 3 entries *.* I hazard a feeling what they all are in that case cool.gif

Posted by: twentyonemdh 3rd December 2016, 11:18 PM

Don't Be So Shy is a really good track. Hopefully I can get a decent finish or two, expecting Come Alive to be highest out of mine.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:04 PM

OK back on track, let's get cracking!

90. peak: 58 4wks SANCTUARY Allie X (Deandria 81)

Aww this was a nice one, sweet pop song with a big chorus. I think this one did quite well in the contest for Deandria smile.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:09 PM

89. peak: 70 7wks SURVIVING Sondra featuring Joe Cleere (usfland 84)

In these tropical house days, I thought this might have been a hit of some sorts, it's certainly catchy enough. Maybe it needed a proper video....

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:14 PM

88. peak: 49 3wks NO SOY COMO TU CREES Ana Mena (ultraviolenceland) 85

Another catchy pop toon, a very Spanish-ish Meghan Trainor-influenced track, with an English hook here and there, I rather liked it! First of 3 for Ultraviolenceland.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:21 PM

87. peak: 60 4wks SHE GETS DOWN ON HER KNEES Yoko Ono featuring Penguin Prison (syndare 87)

One of my guilty avante-garde pleasures is the legend Yoko Ono, and this remix of a track from the Season Of Glass album, the album that followed shortly after husband John Lennon was brutally murdered in front of her eyes. The cover had his blood-stained glasses on the front. This remix is pretty respectful and updates it nicely. First of two for Syndare.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:26 PM

86. peak: 56* 4wks MAZE Aria (ultraviolenceland 90)

One still climbing my charts and destined to go higher in the rundown, this diva-ish powerful vocal and military-tinged hook is fab. One could imagine Adele doing a blockbuster hit version of it. Second of 3 for Ultraviolenceland.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:30 PM

85. peak: 65 7wks THE DREAMER Anna Of The North (republic of adonia 83)

This was a lovely entry, gentle, sweet and other assorted nice things in a plaintive sort of fashion. Sole entry from Adonia on the list but a worthy one.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:39 PM

84. peak: 54 4wks THE OCEAN Mike Perry featuring Shy Martin (hendinia 85)

An actual subsequent streaming-driven UK minor chart hit, this very 2016-sounding shuffle-dance pop song was pretty good, and no Shy Martin isn't a description of Martin, it's a female singer with a good voice who popped up on a Chainsmokers track as well. Should have broke the top 40 though. First of 2 for Hendinia.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:43 PM

83. peak: 59 5wks PLUMMET tiasu (terra avium 82)

another one of those swirling orchestral instrumentals, this one with an EDM hook, and good it is too. First of 2 for Terra Avium.

Posted by: twentyonemdh 5th December 2016, 06:47 PM

The Ocean wub.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:48 PM

82. peak: 56 6wks KEEP ON LOVING YOU Cigarettes After Sex (tartford 85)

This was a haunting fab cover of the 1981 REO Speedwagon smash (which topped my chart at the time). Nothing like the original, it was more like a Twin Peaks soundtrack song, dark and melodically moody. First of 2 for Tartford.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 06:52 PM

81. peak: 39 4wks MOVIES Rykka (Zaminton 81)

Another good female-vocal hook-ey pop track, this one broke into my top 40. Not quite sure why it only had 4 weeks in my chart, must have been a very busy chart that week, cos it deserved more.

Posted by: popchartfreak 5th December 2016, 07:35 PM

a quick update on 100-91 following my chart (and I missed one):

93. peak: 56 5wks HOME Henri PFR (bhangra87)

European dance-style pop. Fun first of 2 from Bhangra.

91 50 3 DON’T BE SHY (FILATOV & KARAS REMIX) Imany
92 50 4 ALGA Ignea
93 56 5 HOME Henri PFR
94 58 4 WHITE FLAG Joseph
95 53 3 MIRROR MIRROR Jeff Williams featuring Casey Lee Williams
96 70 5 I WANT YOU TO SHAKE Francis And The Lights
97 56 3 GHOST Matilda
98 57 5 SCOPE MissingNo
99 63 4 BON BON Era Istrefi
100 52 4 DOPE Beware Of Darkness

Posted by: Weiss Schnee 5th December 2016, 07:50 PM

Great to see another one of mine in, I adore Mirror Mirror, who can resist that piano smashing wub.gif And Alga just above it is awesome to see.

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 07:55 PM

after doing my year-end voting...I found I missed another one, so the current bottom 19 (again! sorry!)

82 39 4 MOVIES Rykka
83 56 6 KEEP ON LOVING YOU Cigarettes After Sex
84 59 5 PLUMMET tiasu
85 54 4 THE OCEAN Mike Perry featuring Shy Martin
86 65 7 THE DREAMER Anna Of The North
87 56 4 MAZE Aria
88 60 4 SHE GETS DOWN ON HER KNEES Yoko Ono featuring Penguin Prison
89 49 3 NO SOY COMO TU CREES Ana Mena
90 70 7 SURVIVING Sondra featuring Joe Cleere

91 58 4 SANCTUARY Allie X
92 50 3 DON’T BE SHY (FILATOV & KARAS REMIX) Imany
93 50 4 ALGA Ignea
94 56 5 HOME Henri PFR
95 58 4 WHITE FLAG Joseph
96 53 3 MIRROR MIRROR Jeff Williams featuring Casey Lee Williams
97 70 5 I WANT YOU TO SHAKE Francis And The Lights
98 56 3 GHOST Matilda
99 57 5 SCOPE MissingNo
100 63 4 BON BON Era Istrefi

which leaves...

81. peak: 58 7wks TUN UP Sarah Mark (st burbia 88)

another great catchy popdance toon that shoulda been a hit, still playing this one regularly and still not getting bored with it. I approve of the tropical video setting and bikinis. Attractive young people should be free to flaunt it cos you get old far too quickly! 1st of 2 Burb's...

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:01 PM

80. peak: 47* 4wks DAMN Red Rosamond (fljotavik 90)

fab old-fashioned strutting rockpop, great vocals and hooks in this, and it's still growing on me and climbing my charts. 1st of 3 for dandy, always quality choices, no matter what the genre.

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:06 PM

79. peak: 46* 5wks GHOST OF YOU Julia Knight (dyermaker 90)

also still climbing my charts, this gorgeous uptempo sultry ballad is a winner, almost smooth jazzy in it's mood if not bpm's. And another "ghost" record! 1st of 2 for D'Yer'maker.

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:14 PM

78. peak: 53* 4wks ELECTRIFY Oliver featuring Scott Mellis (trifoski 90)

yet another track still on my charts - BJSC 90 was one of the contests of the year for me - catchy upbeat electro-fying pop beats from nation of the year, Trifoski. A series of movie horror villain montages don't hurt the band's video. First of 6 for Seven. Sounds like a Borg name laugh.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:20 PM

77. peak: 39 3wks ARCADE SUMMER FM-84 (jadakissnia 87)

Sounds like it could have been the theme tune to a mid-80's cop show, a bit of fab instrumental EDM from Jade, which seems to have been a bit of a minor goodie niche in BJSC 2016. 1st of 4 for Jadakissnia (oops I miscounted on the blurb page)

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:24 PM

76. peak: 46 6wks BUY NOTHING DAY The Go! Team (trifoskia 89)

Coming over like an 80's jangly guitar pop hit, the melody of this banging poprock tune is terrific, and gives Trifoski a 2nd of 6 on the listing. Love the psychedelic video.

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:28 PM

75. peak: 36* 4wks CLOSER TO LIFE Atella x Froder (altyr muunilinst 90)

...and yet another great BJSC 90 track fast-climbing my charts as the hook gets in my head the more I hear it, in a very very good way. The hook is the rhythm track as much as the uplifting chorus. First of 2 for Altyr.

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:34 PM

74. peak: 50 7wks SOUND OF YOUR HEART Shawn Hook (bellamia 84)

What I call a good example of teenpop, a killer hook, and a teen(or pre-teen)-appealing young singer. An actual old-fashioned bridge in it to boot, pleasantly rentarappa free. 1st of 2 for bellamia (and why wasn't it a hit when so many more rubbish teen pop tracks are - rhetorical question, it's due to fanbase and luck...)

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:39 PM

73. peak: 38 3wks I DO I DO SYMPHOBIA (avalonia 87)

a good urbanrappop fusion with classical, which has it's roots in the 90's in a previous incarnation, and which is damn catchy, interesting and should have, say, had an x-factor appearance for it to take off big time. Biggest of the year for Avalonia.

Posted by: SevenSeize 6th December 2016, 08:42 PM

ooh yes hadn't seen that new vid for Electrify until now! excellente *.* rabbits are always great

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:43 PM

72. peak: 43 5wks ANGEL (CLUB MIX) Polyna (aeroche 84)

If there's one country that always has its finger on the buzzjack dance pulse it's Aeroche, and here's the first of 4 fab dance tracks from them. Well done Leww, catchy and fab and tuneful and bangin! I want to dance....

Posted by: popchartfreak 6th December 2016, 08:49 PM

71. peak: 43 4wks HIGHER The Naked And Famous (cor lupus 87)

This one won. Not surprising, as it's a great EDM choon, love that electric guitar riff in the background and the chorus. seems I'm not the only one to want this go Higher. 1st of 2 from Cor Lupus, who were quite pleased to win as much as I was they did. Good winner.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 10:45 AM

70. peak: 54 8wks BETTER WITH YOU of Verona (avalonia 89)

Another great EDM-rockpop hybrid track, one of those that still sounds fresh months later. Second of 2 for Avalonia.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 10:48 AM

69. peak: 45 6wks 1-800MYLOVE FEYNMAN (jadakissnia 89)

Another one of those fab EDM instrumentals from jadakissnia, a bit quirky this one and lower on the BPM, and the 3rd of 4 from Jade.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 10:52 AM

68. peak: 44 6wks PRISONER ROMANS featuring Rejjie Snow (FSR rontvia 83)

An urban goodie, slow rap (my fave type) and soulful singing building to a cool chorus. Smoooooth. 1st of 3 for FSR.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 10:56 AM

67. peak: 40 5wks I THINK I’M FALLIN’ (MANOTETT REMIX) Dominique 49400 tartford 87

This one is a gorgeous slow ballad with a finger-clicky EDM backdrop, and I don't know what voters were thinking when they let it DNQ. Shame! It's a great song and and emotionally touching. 2nd of 2 for AH Gold aka Tartford (who wuz robbed!)...

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 11:00 AM

66. peak: 33 4wks BLUSH TP4Y (yehesi 86)

It wouldn't be a list without a Tim pop tune, this one was pretty popular with voters, and has a bit of mild urban tropical house flavour that could easily fit into the current chart scene, given a break. 2nd of 3 for Yehesi.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 02:21 PM

65. peak: 50 7wks PLEASE DON’T GO Joel Adams (bellamia 81)

Another good teen-pop track, this one managing to hang around the UK streaming-based chart for a couple of months without cracking the top 40. It also failed to qualify for the final. Wot?! Obviously a good pop tune to me, and Joel Adams has a pretty singing good voice, which is one up on some of his rivals (hi Bieber!). Second of 2 for bellamia...

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 02:25 PM

64. peak: 38 6wks ONCE IN A WHILE Timeflies (bhangra 86)

Here's another good, catchy, pop track, albeit more upbeat this time, and semi-rap-based for the verses. Second of 2 for Bhangra.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 02:29 PM

63. peak: 34 5wks TWO HEARTS NZCA Lines (cumulonimbia 81)

Throbbing dance up next, low-key vocals and melody, and a hook-laden instrumental backdrop to the chorus. Cool. The only entry for Cumulonimbia on the rundown, doh!

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 02:37 PM

62. peak: 25 4wks LA FEMME A LA PEAU BLEUE (CHEZ TOI) Vendredi sur Mer (N DNTN 86)

Almost a taster for the sound of Christine & The Queens, all French and laid-back EDM sexiness, and rather good it is too. Sole lonely entry for N DNTN on the chart.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 02:42 PM

61. peak: 35* 5wks 1000 NIGHTS Frenship (florina 90)

First of two for the band on the chart, and one that has yet to get going media-wise (it's still climbing my charts), and the better of the 2, being as it has a massive male ooh-ooh-ooh-OOH- OOH singalongachorus that really ought to be a hit. Florina's only track.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 02:51 PM

60. peak: 50 9wks CAPSIZE Frenship featuring Emily Warren (unovia 84)

Talk of the devil, here's the other Frenship track, assisted by Emily "Bunny" Warren. I made that nickname up. Although it didn't make my top 40, it had a long run by virtue of it hanging around the streaming-based UK chart positions of 60 and 75 for about 20 weeks. It didn't sell on itunes, and it never managed to climb in any significant fashion, almost as if people were accessing the streaming chart tracks in the same order week after week after week. It is very pleasant, as most of the middling streaming-based hits tend to be, so I assume that means people don't turn it off when they come across it in a chart rundown, but they equally don't search it out.

Sole entry for Unovia here...

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 02:58 PM

59. peak: 47* 6wks HAMMER Chiara Hunter (syndare 89)

Pure early 80's jazz-funk, it could almost be Shakatak reborn - that'll be Shakatak at their best - and it's cool and jazztastic and still in my charts. First of 2 for Syndare.

Posted by: Slade 7th December 2016, 03:01 PM

Ooh two more entries for me here since I last commented ohmy.gif Hooray at actually having 4 here instead of 3, the more the merrier *.*

Glad that 'Arcade Summer' and '1-800MYLOVE' ended up being to your taste! You do seem to be quite a fan of my more dancey entries this year haha. Although, if I am correct about what I think the final entry of mine is here, then that one isn't dance at all... ohmy.gif

Some other great picks here as well, the sublime 'Two Hearts' for instance heart.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 03:06 PM

58. peak: 17* 4wks SEXUAL NEIKED featuring Dyo (ramrynia 84)

Hands up, I missed this one. I barely noticed it in the contest (and I invariably like/love Ramrynia's entries) and passed over it in the voting. When it charted I continued to remain un-moved, even when it went top 10. Guess what? 4 weeks ago I bought it, and it's now really growing fast, shooting into my top 20 and on its way higher, and an obvious contender for top 30 of the year when it's chart run is done. Sorry Ryan! Anyways first of 2 for Ramrynia.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 03:11 PM

57. peak: 39 8wks GREEN DENM (kluminican republic 88)

I under-rated the chart peak of this one, though it had a good run, it's what I call a classy indie-EDM track, pretty plinkety-plonk Electronic bits, and unusual rhythms, and a nice understated male vocal. First of 2 for Klumzee.

Thanks for the comment Jade cool.gif I think you have already guessed which the top one will be - though as it's still charting it may be not as high as it deserves, but I'll be doing chart "sales" for the top 50, so it gives a comparative way of comparing how much I love tracks at the top end laugh.gif

popchartfreak me, always said I was laugh.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 03:20 PM

56. peak: 34 7wks DREAMIN’ Embody featuring Camden Cox (beaverdonia 82)

Another cool low-key dance track with a catchy hook a bit lacking in lyrics, which has never been a problem for me. Ooh-oohs are fine! That makes Beaverdonia all complete in this chart.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 03:25 PM

55. peak: 36 5wks MAKE YOU STAY The Girl And The Dreamcatcher (greenfroze 86)

I love an old-fashioned male-female love duet, and this one is pretty damn good. It's a great song for a start, chock-filled with mini-melodies throughout. I could easily see this as a huge hit - about 3 or 4 years back. In the current chart-climate, no chance. Boo! Second of two for Greenfroze.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 03:30 PM

54. peak: 40 8wks MOMBASA Stadium X (brechtoria 86)

I think this one sadly got edged out of the wrong semi. It's a tribal banging dance instrumental goodie, but I think it got overshadowed by the one I entered, also a bangin' tribal dance number. First of 2 for Brechtoria.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 03:34 PM

53. peak: 37 9wks CAN’T GET ENOUGH Basenji (st burbia 83)

From the contest where voters went mad - BJSC83 - and far too many good tracks not qualifying for the final, such as this understated quirky horn-riffed melodic mini-gem. 2nd of 2 for St. Burbia.

74. peak: 50 7wks SOUND OF YOUR HEART Shawn Hook (bellamia 84)

Sound of Your Heart feels like it should've been a chart hit to me, it's incredibly catchy and it would stand out amongst a lot of the stuff in the chart... maybe that's the problem laugh.gif

QUOTE(popchartfreak @ Dec 7 2016, 02:21 PM) *
65. peak: 50 7wks PLEASE DON’T GO Joel Adams (bellamia 81)

My personal favourite of my entries this year also wub.gif Definitely one of the most gutting DNQs I've had! He has a very good voice and I heard a few of his other songs when I saw him live in April, lots of potential, just needs to actually follow this up now! laugh.gif Shame it never got sent to radio, its streaming success suggests it could've been massive.

52. peak: 40 7wks TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT Great Good Fine OK (trifoski 81)

Hey, a boyband track that is catchily delicious, and helped no end by the great video. Again, could have been big a few years ago, and you can't say Seven enters the same genres, which is just how I like it. 4th of 6 - yes, already as many on the chart as anyone else in total and two still left laugh.gif

51. peak: 40 7wks TU BA MANI Meghan Kabir (botannika 84)

Just missing the top half of the chart is this brave entry, Afghani-roots-song (I think) but sung by an American-based singer-songwriter. It's fab. 1st of 3 for Botannika, so maths says 2 in the top 50...

Thanks Joseph, yes both of them could easily have been chart hits in an alternate universe, a shame they didn't click, and at least you got the satisfaction of seeing a DNQ chart. Hah! Shout it loud, "I was right..." laugh.gif

on with the top 50!

50. peak: 30 8wks MOTH TO A FLAME Chairlift sales: 73050 (mulgracia 82)

and it wouldn't be a top 50 without a James jam or ballad, a rather sweet laid-back, non-video jam in this case. First of 2 for the former Jamvale.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 06:59 PM

49. peak: 21 5wks SPEAKING OF MOMENTS BLEITCH 74300 (kluminican republic 81)

I still see this as a sort of Karen Carpenter intro and upbeat/gorgeous dance track. The female vocal is just lovely. The song is fab. Sadly no youtube video, needs one and needs to get some promo. Klumzee's biggest track of the year.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 07:05 PM

48. peak: 31* 7wks DREAMER Coco Morier 74350 (FRO ashton 89)

Still hanging my charts, this 80's-throwback is irresistibly Pet Shop Boys styled, like a slowed version of the backing tracks favoured by the Disco album period-PSB's. How could I not love it?! Top entry from Ashton of the year for me.

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 07:11 PM

47. peak: 32 7wks LATE AT NIGHT Generik 74900 (Aeyundore 86)

A 90's-styled house dance singalong, urgent and tuneful, great singer on the record to boot. Every track in the top 50 is just fab for me, and this is no exception, so the question is: why didn't it qualify!? Injustice! 2nd of 3 for the re-re-named Summericia (must say I prefer Summericia to Eeyore) laugh.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 07:17 PM

46. peak: 19* 4wks EARTH NOT ABOVE Haelos 77400 (jadakissnia 90)

Still high in my charts, and so lower than it should be (most-likely it will end up top 20 for 2016) for Jade's best track of the year. I love atmospheric creations, and this is a fab moody Massive Attack-ish full-marks-from-Singerpurear track, the best entry in the final contest of 2016. Love it. Sadly, the last of Jadakissnia's 4 on the list - at least until I do a total sales version around about Spring 2017 laugh.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 07:22 PM

45: peak: 39 9wks MIRACLE Julian Perretta 79150 (ramrynia 84)

Sounding very much like a Pan-European 2016 big hit (that almost made it) this singalong tropical-house-ish had that Oh Yeah hook and a jolly mood going for it. Unassuming pop, it just niggled into my brain for 9 weeks and wouldn't let go. Second of 2 for Ramrynia (though the other one will overtake it in due course)

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 07:27 PM

44. peak: 34 8wks EMOJI Pegboard Nerds 79850 (FSR Rontvia 81)

The video put me right off initially, for some reason, and I was a bit resistant to it's semi-novelty frantic pop charms, at least for voting purposes. I kept coming back to it though, and played it in my car a couple of times and it just grew and grew weeks after the contest. Insistent! Second of 3 for FSR....

Can't Get Enough really hit me in October, such a fun track.

Great Good Fine Ok and Pegboard Nerds are both great, caught up now biggrin.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 7th December 2016, 07:35 PM

43. peak: 16 5wks FADED Kallay Saunders Band 83950 (medhelnia 83)

Top-notch beautifully-sung male-vocal dance music with passion, this should have had a longer run in my chart. Terrific song, fab production, and very very under-appreciated victim of the rubbish BJSC83 cull. 4th-best track to DNQ during 2016, and the first of 4 for Medhelnia, very nearly the only country to get 4 tracks inside the top 40. Mdh was on fire this year and still, the only country to get 4 inside the 50 is good enough!

42. peak: 17* 5wks SUNRISE (HERE I AM) Ratty 84200 (botannika 90)

Still high in my charts and still sounding fab, I loved this one right away. Maybe it was the nostalgia for my Darude-Sandstorm clubbing days (I was a late starter! laugh.gif ) or the female world-music vocals reminding me of Enigma, or maybe it's because it's just such a banging dance track in its own right, even some 16 or 17 years later. Second of 3 for Botannika, and like Haelos (it had a week's head-start in my chart, being in my semi) destined to go higher in the chart.

Just missing the Year-end top 40, is this delightful French-language EDM oddity, quirky as a very quirky thing. Sweet and unusual. Oops! That means Trifoski have had 5 of their 6 outside the 40, so that leaves just one more to go - but where exactly?

TBC another night

55. peak: 36 5wks MAKE YOU STAY The Girl And The Dreamcatcher (greenfroze 86)

I'm still gutted I sat on this instead of entering it immediately and then got beat too it! It's a bloody wonderful track. wub.gif

Wasn't expecting to make this list but nice to see a respectable showing for Dreamer! I admit i've never actively listened to PSB but what initially caught my attention for this track was defo the backing track.

Thanks Silas, ooh yes you just missed out on the fab Girl Dreamcatcher, doh!

Dreamer is just as good though, if you like the backing track give a listen to Pet Shop Boys I'm Not Scared off Introspective, or their version with Eighth Wonder aka Patsy Kensit which seems to be the inspiration for Dreamer a bit. cool.gif

40. peak: 40 8wks STARS Project 46 featuring Haley 87300 (aeroche 88)

Into the top 40 with the second of Aeroche's 4 dance tracks, this is a breathy girlie vocal EDM track, which fits in nicely with the hit sounds of 2016. Only better than half of them, so maybe that's why it hasn't made the charts yet. There have been loads of songs entitled "Stars" over the years, and I put it among the top end of them, say not quite China Black but above Simply Red biggrin.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 10:45 AM

39. peak: 35 6wks THE WANDERING SONGSTRESS The Shanghai Restoration Project featuring Zhang Le 88150 (Persephonia 81)

Bre's top track of the year for me, this gorgeous EDM re-imagining of a very old song was one I would have entered if I'd got to it first, love the melody, love the sound of the language (reminds me of my Singapore part-childhood) love the vocal and sparse tasteful low-key arrangement. Fab.

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 10:51 AM

38. peak: 25 6wks TIR NA NOG Celtic Woman featuring Oonagh 92350 (new lexico 85)

Well we're certainly travelling the world and genres musically, and here with a more ethnic Corrs-ish celtic tuneful delight. Back in the day, us old kids had a kids TV show called Follyfoot, about a lovely horse, Father Ted-style, only the fab theme tune was much better than the show. It was called The Lightning Tree, and melodically/moodwise it kinda reminds me of this one a bit. That's a good thing. First of 2 in the 40 for New Lexico.

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 11:03 AM

37. peak: 26 9wks GONE (ROBERT DELONG REMIX) Jr Jr 93250 (cor lupus 85)

I've said before there's not enough catchy whistling in current pop music. Happily this joyful uptempo pop track has a whistley hook underlining the poppiness just enough to make it catchy without annoying. Great chorus too. Never got bored with this one, which is always a risk with jolly pop tunes, still sounding good. Great vocal too, he's a good singer. The original pop mix and odd-good-video is almost as good but this is the slightly-more dancey version entered. Second of 2 for Cody, and I would like a Brit-styled 1940's exclamation mark after Cor! Lupus. That would be an even greater name biggrin.gif

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 11:13 AM

36. peak: 30 9wks HOW DO I LOVE YOU Infinity Ink featuring Yasmin 95200 (#00274E 85)

a great 90's-styled dance track here, featuring Yasmin, who has previously topped my chart with Finish Line, a British female DJ/singer fond of collaborations with many and varied dance acts. This is a cool dance track with a subtle groove and melody, and Yasmin is a great singer. First of 2 for Jakewild aka "numbers". I can't use the official country name, it's too close to work numbers I use all day for Council asset reference numbers, and Buzzjack is my escape from that excitement. laugh.gif

Posted by: Michael Bubré 8th December 2016, 11:18 AM

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 11:23 AM

35. peak: 14 5wks MERRY CHRISTMAS MR LAWRENCE Ryuchi Sakamoto 96100 (oslol 81)

One of the great movie themes, a beautiful haunting and moving instrumental theme from Ryuchi in his early 80's heyday, post his early EDM Yellow Magic Orchestra phase. I always liked it, but under-appreciated it at the time a bit, so this gave me an excuse to boost it's chart "sales" (not included here, or it would be much higher). Again, my childhood Singapore exposed me to all varieties of Asian music on TV, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Malay - not that Japanese was a big thing, just occasional manga kids shows amongst the rest - so I can't help myself getting all nostalgic and filled with fuzzy warmness inside. Also a buzzjack tribute to the star of the movie, the late great iconic David Bowie. First of 2 for Oslol

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 11:54 AM

34. peak: 30 7wks FALL ON ME Kitten 96300 (fljotavik 87)

Not a million miles from the sound of Suede and the sweeping grand-ness of solo Bernard Butler or McAlmont-Butler, via 80's indiepop of many a girl-fronted band. So I was bound to fall for this rockpop gem, still sounding great. Second dandy track of 3, for the always classy Fljotavik.

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 12:00 PM

33. peak: 19 8wks I’LL TAKE YOU MSTR ROGERS 105900 ("numbers" 82)

Passionate rowdy dance track, alternately low-key cool and shouty-hookiness, play it loud and annoy the neighbours. This is so fab I get frustrated when obviously great dance tracks don't get to be hits. People who choose playlists need huge slaps, they so often go for bland or Target-audience tracks and forget to just go for GREAT records instead. Second and final top 40 entry for Numbers....

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 12:06 PM

32. peak: 19 8wks ALL OVER THE WORLD Above And Beyond featuring Alex Vargas 106200 (aeroche 83)

I really rate Above And Beyond, they've had a few big hits in my charts and I'm mystified why they've never had a Years And Years-style crossover appeal. Sadly so true for many great dancepop acts in the UK, like Hurts. Anyway, I was glad to see Leww enter this one, it's a great pop record, easily better than half the tracks in the top 40. Third of 4 for Aeroche.

Posted by: popchartfreak 8th December 2016, 12:11 PM

31. peak: 30* 7wks KISS ME Fingertips 107750 (taahino 89)

I've had this song on earworm replay in my brain over the last few weeks, just so bloody catchy, not just the vocal melody hook, even the backdrop instrumental riffs are hookie. She's a great singer, it's a powerpop goodie, and I still am charting it, so it will go higher. Fab. Taahino's best of the year...

30. peak: 17 7wks THE TOUCH KOLAJ 110950 (FSR rontvia 84)

This was a sweet dancepop entry from the always-reliable Rontvia. Can I say "nice" without it being an insult? It's nice! Catchy, nice vocal, nice production. Third and final FSR track on the list

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th December 2016, 04:44 PM

29. peak: 27 9wks FEELING ELECTRIC Parade Of Dreams 113650 (medhelnia 85)

mdh has picked a batch of fab tracks for entries this year, and this is the second of 4, a delightful, upbeat, positive indieEDM poptastic entry. Love the sand dunes in the video, hope to be wandering some next week.

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th December 2016, 04:48 PM

28. peak: 25 10wks WAITING Alice Boman 114450 isconia 83

There's an ongoing unfair bias against subtle, slow entries in the BJSC, witness for the prosecution this tender, mellow, yet a bit haunting and touching ballad, a simple arrangement but effectively beautiful. This one failed to qualify in 83, sadly, and I make it the third best DNQ of the year. A sole entry for Isconia.

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th December 2016, 04:53 PM

27. peak: 21 8wks HIGH Jesper Jenset 114700 (bellamia 85)

This one has "2016 hit" written all over it. Obviously not written big enough though, as it hasn't crossed over. Something Justin Bieber might have recorded in his latest cool incarnation, maybe, but Jesper's vocals are better. Or maybe it's just a little less in ya face. Anyways I thought it was pretty damn good! Second and final track for Bellamia.

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th December 2016, 04:58 PM

26. peak: 19 7wks DILUTE THIS Nimmo 118250 (Ultraviolenceland 81)

My fave UV track of the year, the final one of 3, and a fab upbeat cool slice of moody EDM, with a chorus that, shall we say, isn't hard to sing along with. Good vocals too, just the right amount of passion. Striking.

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th December 2016, 05:04 PM

25. peak: 15* 8wks LOST (AS I AM) Superwalkers 125100 (suedeonia 89)

Still hanging about my charts, and guaranteed to finish in the top 20 eventually cos it's fab. Suedey's only track to qualify to date, but what a great one, another cool Indie EDM production with a great melody/synth backing arrangement. The always interesting Suedeonia have entered a lot of brave tunes this year, and quite a few have pottered about my charts without hitting the year-end 100.

Hi mdh

off to my usual get away Monday, Gran Canaria - lots of large sand dunes there, but not a vast desert, just localised over a couple of miles. Sitting on my ass doing nothing yahoo.gif

24. peak: 18 11wks THE GLITTERING GUTTER (DAVE AUDEN RADIO MIX) Billie Ray Martin 140100 (aeyundore 88)

Pure late-80's/90's delight for me this one, the former German singer of hitmakers Electribe 101 was great at her moody best, and this track was pure moody-dance-groove, loved it, and love that it extended her run of chart hits in my charts to 28 years! Fab record, and new off her 2016 album. Third and final track for Summericia aka.

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th December 2016, 08:43 PM

23. peak: 12 8wks TAKE ME THERE Adore Delano 145700 (New Lexico 83)

Another pop goodie, this song chugs along beautifully, meshing from verse to chorus smoothly, actually I think I prefer the verse to the more uplifting singalong bits. How to do a good pop track! Fun. Second and final one for New Lexico.

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th December 2016, 08:46 PM

22. peak: 19 10wks THE GREATEST KING 152100 (pagasa 82)

No, not the big-booted 80's pop band, a jazzsoul-EDM creation that is just pure gorgeousness. Love it, love it's understated goovy fabness. Pagasa's only listing, but what a fab one.

21. peak: 12 8wks PORCELAIN Skott 152700 (kylienips 86)

Mart!n/Mikey's top record of the year, and again lots of Kylienips tunes make my charts but only this one made the 100, shockingly. It's fragile-with-attitude, with hints of The Beatles Lucy In The Sky in the backing riffs, and of course cool. While it's not one you could hum along to in the car, it's one that rewards attention.

...and that means only 20 songs left.

Oooooo I've made top 20 - exciting! I'm assuming it is Agnes?

That wouldn't be a bad assumption... laugh.gif

20. peak: 16 10wks LOVE ME BETTER Love Thy Brother featuring Ariel Beesley 153250 (hendinia 88)

I Lurrve this one, playful, joyful and an unusual vocal style, and a biiiig chorus, poptastic and fresh. Second and final entry from from Hendinia kicks off the 20..

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:13 AM

19. peak: 11 7wks LOVE YOU WITH THE LIGHTS ON (MONSIEUR ADI REMIX) Morgxn 161300 (FARC 87)

Not entirely unlike a Years And Years sort of appeal, the laid-back EDM falsetto pop of this one was appealing right on the first listen. First of two inside the top 20 for FARC...now that’s just greedy!

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:15 AM

18. peak: 17 12wks ALL NIGHT LONG Rochelle 162900 (yehesi 84)

This SO sounded like a future 2016 hit, Tim’s good at spotting those catchy contemporary pop toons, and I’m a bit disappointed it didn’t happen in the UK. Slap to British radio, Spotify playlists, and itunes for not promoting it. Third and final track on the list for Yehesi.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:17 AM

17. peak: 16 12wks MY MOON Sweet Coffee 187000 (espen 84)

From the same contest (84) this laid-back Massive Attack-ish delight was too low-key to be huge in the contest, but it did well enough, considering. I love moon imagery (big on astronomy, me!) so a big win already for me. A great entry from Espen, love it.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:19 AM

16. peak: 9 10wks MONODY TheFatRat featuring Laura Brehm 194600 (Danaelanda 81)

Well this was a catchy ditty and a half. Sort of part Celtic-Eurovision, part EDM-bubblegum pop as they used to call catchy pop back in the late 60’s. I loved bubblegum pop and Celtic tunes. Second and biggest of two for Danaelanda.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:21 AM

15. peak: 10 8wks ULAY OH How I Became The Bomb 195800 (Terra Avium 83)

Hmmm, tender and sad, and a very unusual entry from Terra Avium, the second and highest for the year for them. It sounded like nothing else entered in 2016, and had a very memorable video and song premise. Distorted electronic vocals helped the mood. Lovely.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:24 AM

14. peak: 12 10wks BRAND NEW MOVES (VISUALIZER) Hey Violet 198150 (Oslol 87)

Well, my second-fave DNQ of the year. Not only did it not get through to the final, it got hardly any love at all! Sometimes I seem to be in a world of my own, but I love this track. Hey Violet made a fab record, funky, compelling, insistent, and in the groove. Maybe that’s not fashionable right now, or maybe the hook wasn’t in-ya-face enough, but it deserved better, especially given the lead singer's fab vocals, a great singer. Oslol’s biggest of the year (for me!) and second of 2 in the chart.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:26 AM

13. peak: 6 13wks HIGHER Kwamie Liv 224000 (syndare 85)

Like many a great slow-groove this one just grew and grew for me - it didn’t get big points from me initially, but after the contest and as the weeks passed I loved it more and more, loved the breathiness, the build to the chorus, the unusual sounds on the track. It ended the year as my fave and highest-ranked track from BJSC 85. Also the biggest of Syndare’s two tracks on the list.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:29 AM

12. peak: 10 14wks HEY Willa 247050 (altyr 86)

Another terrific upbeat track, and a great jaunty production, not to mention an earworm of a song. It stayed on my chart for 14 weeks, so it had legs too. Loved the vocals, loved the hooks, and the highest of Altyr’s 2 entries on my list.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:31 AM

11. peak: 6* 8wks RIVER RUNS DRY Scavenger Hunt 262850 (dyermaker 89)

just missing out on the top 10, and also the final in 89, bizarrely under-loved, this great song is my top record of the year to DNQ. A great vocal performance, a classy pop offering, and still on my charts. D’Yermaker’s best entry of the year, and final of 2 on the list.

Posted by: popchartfreak 11th December 2016, 11:32 AM

Which means the top 10 is left... the countries that will (alphabetically) feature are,

Aeroche
Botannika
Brechtoria
FARC
Fljotavik
Ingermanlandia
Medhelnia (2)
Mulgracia
Trifoski

Posted by: popchartfreak 12th December 2016, 04:09 PM

10 peak: 5 9wks DON’T YOU CRY FOR ME Cobi 319450 (mulgracia 89)

At 10, James makes my year-end top 10 yet again, this time with the powerful blues-cum-reggae ballad. A bit Hozier, a lot passionate, almost bordering on vocal hysteria, the track is both Mulgracia's and BJSC89's top track of 2016.

Borrowing iz's list of my songs of the year i thought it might be of interest to see how i rate them...

1. Kadie Elder – First Time He Kissed A Boy
2. Inga Humpe – Riding Into Blue
3. Fitz And The Tantrums – HandClap
4. Kishi Bashi – Ode To My Next Life
5. Princess Chelsea – The Cigarette Duet
6. Chris Lee – Real Love
7. Ezra Furman – Restless Year
8. Firebeatz & DubVision – Invincible
9. Timothy Bloom – Til The End Of Time
10.Yothu Yindi – Treaty dance remix

Sometimes i enter stuff cos its different, sometimes cos i love it. Sometimes both. I was happy to see fitz make the billboard charts, if i could pick one to blockbuster the world streaming charts id pick kadie, such a brilliantly constructed record, perfect in every way.

9. peak: 4 9wks COME ALIVE FMLYBND 340050 (medhelnia 87)

The first of mdh's 2 top 10 entries, the only nation with that honour. A great EDMrock hybrid of sorts, the essential Empire Of The Sun-ish pop quality of it won me over right away. The video suggests it's a live recording - now it sounds a bit too polished for that so if it is, kudos!

Posted by: popchartfreak 12th December 2016, 04:33 PM

8 peak: 4 15wks AMANECER Bomba Estereo 399250 (Ingermanlandia 82)

First of two Spanish-language tracks in my top 10, and in no way am I biased towards latin rhythms as I type this on the plane to Playa Del Ingles. OK I am. I love the sound of the languages, the sexy Colombian dance rhythms, (my hips don't lie), and this insistant dance gem is just so fab. Play loud, get up and boogie. Ingermanlandia's track of the year and the top track of BJSC82.

Posted by: popchartfreak 12th December 2016, 04:53 PM

7. Peak : 3 12wks LET ME KNOW No Wyld 416300 (medhelnia 86)

This was a powerful hybrid, sort of Cee-Lo styled soyl vocals mixed with spoken-rap which reminded me of the fab noughties hit Butterfly by Crazy Town. Video attached if you dont know it. Fab it is. So is this track too, and mdh's top track of the year in a strong field of 4 entered by medhelnia.

Posted by: popchartfreak 12th December 2016, 11:38 PM

6. Peak: 6* 16wks HER (LOVING YOU) GLADES 461650 (brechtoria 87)

Just a gorgeous ballad this one, beautifully sung and a fab arrangement. Most of all it's the melody that captivates me, soooo lovely. Brechtoria's best track of the year and still on my charts.

Posted by: popchartfreak 13th December 2016, 08:52 PM

5. Peak: 6 21wks THIS GIRL (KUNGS VS COOKIN' ON 3 BURNERS RADIO EDIT) Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners 559300 (botannika 83)

The biggest Botannika and the biggest UK hit to come out of BJSC in 2016 and a deserved smash. A fab pop and dance record, a combo joint effort from both acts and a standout record of the year. My only grump is the rubbish streaming charts held it off the top spot where it belonged - not just cos it was a better record (it was) but also cos it was the best selling download for 2 or 3 weeks.

Posted by: SevenSleighz 13th December 2016, 08:53 PM

think i know what my last one is, come thru my Chilean princess!

Posted by: popchartfreak 13th December 2016, 09:02 PM

4. Peak: 2* 14wks FAMILIAR Agnes Obel 613500 (Fljotavik 88)

Dandy's most-gorgeous entry of the year, hauntingly stark and atmospheric, achingly beautiful. A real masterpiece, and one that nearly topped my charts. Agnes is an act I was aware of but never really noticed. Till this came along.....shes now got 2 tracks in my charts.

3. Peak: 1 13wks CRAZY FOR YOU Zonderling featuring Bishop 731700 (aeroche 81)

The top 3 all topped my charts, and this Leww track did it at the start of the year, giving Aeroche a second year of big tracks in my year-end. I just LOVED the delicious galloping wonky off-the-beat uniqueness of this breathy, delish dance banger. Fab. U. Lous!

Kungs was number one on sales for four weeks, one more week than One Dance got!!

Really wish it did better on streaming, would've loved for that to get to #1 sad.gif

2. Peak: 1 30wks OTRA ERA Javiera Mena 859650 (trifoski 84)

The unluckiest buzzjack song if the year. The one that won BJSC84 has also just beaten this genius EDM slice of popdance perfection. Javiera is a Chilean indiedance act and I have become obsessed by her track over the last few months. I played it over and over in the car, it dropped then came back even stronger to top my chart, and it still hangs around 30 weeks later. When I come across a record that I love equally every perfect second throughout, I see it as just unimproveable. This is one of those records, love the latin groove, Ive tried to sing along in spanish, Ive read the translation, I love the video and wish I could take a copy to the Spanish late night bar here in gran canaria that is on tonight playing spanish and worldwide dance tracks. Seven's best of an unbeatable 6 tracks in my top 100...

I hope thats not OTT...! laugh.gif

1. Peak: 1 21wks SAVE IT Salt Ashes 1272900 (FARC 84)

Completing a spine-tinglingly great female vocal top 6, its new female singersongwriter Salt Ashes with the top winner of the year. A brilliant dance track, with a fabulous hook, the record kicks it up a gear with the bridge 2 mins and 22 seconds in, full of convincing passion and just SO obviously a worldwide monster hit in waiting. Sadly its not 2012, though, dance tracks big on the bpm and passion fail to breakthrough the yawnsome middletempo tropical house tracks that dominate the charts - we dont want spotify encouraging people to bugger off to club do we! Its not from lack of trying though, the records has been re re re re re mixed again and again and is as we speak in the club and cool cuts charts. Sadly that dont cut the mustard with streaming 14 year olds, so no chance. Besides which, the original is pretty much perfect as is. I have tested various buzzjack tracks on my 30something neice and hubby, and 20something nephew, and this was the track they got enthusiastic about. Im still living in hope that FARC's 2016 champion will do it...!

Posted by: Dancember 13th December 2016, 10:10 PM

that's a great song to win this countdown! I do love a big full-out dance-pop tune.

Posted by: dandy* 13th December 2016, 10:14 PM

Excellent #1... and excellent #4! biggrin.gif

Salt Ashes reached #1 for me too actually, I don't really associate it with BJSC as I already knew it prior to the contest - however it did definitely grow on me after the hype on here.

Amazing top 2 <3 Save It sounds so timeless and completely deserved the big margin it got, I'm still baffled Otra Era didn't do something similar, would've absolutely smashed if it was sent a few years ago I'm sure.

Been loving following this, and very happy to have an entry in your top 15! I missed that going viral and just came across it this year and was so struck by the story told and sad production, I very rarely send tracks like that so glad it paid off!
