Next up in the predicta series we have the much anticipated, years in the making 'Jurassic World'!
One of those films which I think will be big in 3D! Everyone seems to have been dying for a 3D Jurassic Park film, so I think the 3D revenue will sway in it's favour, heavily! Whether it'll actually be good/worth the 3D, we'll have to wait and see! Some interesting tidbits that might help you out... - Stars the "man of the moment" Chris Pratt! - 'Jurassic Park' is one of the highest grossing films and franchises of ALL time. - The first film in the franchise opened up to £9,043,578 in the UK & $50,159,460 in the US (Total gross $402,453,882) - The second film opened* up to $90,161,880 in the US (Total gross $229,086,679) - The third film opened up to £4,762,155 in the UK & $50,771,645 in the US (Total gross $181,171,875) * - can't find the opening weekend numbers for the UK! So what do we think? |

UK: £12m
US: $115m I think it's easily getting into double figures in the UK. My interest is mainly Chris Pratt, I don't know how much of a 'quality' film it's going to be (or one that I get much enjoyment from personally). |

It's a shame the 3rd one did so poorly! I really enjoyed that IIRC. But I can see why as the magic of the first film had been completely taken out and they were more about action-y thrills and plots etc... and less about the dinosaurs and how dangerous they are. I'm really intrigued to see this new one, but the trailer has killed most the hype I had going for it as it just got too actiony and there being action for the sake of a cheap thrill. (It's why I don't get on too well with F&F franchise)

The third one was the worst iirc but this new one would have been good as the third one instead. Interestingly it looks exactly like the first film except for the park being open. I am excited to see this

"Stomping it's way to $155m opening" in the US, apparently!

If the $70+ million figure for Friday is accurate, and we'll find out within the next couple of hours, this is definitely opening upwards of $155 million. To compare, Furious 7 made $67 million on Friday and $147.2 million overall, so it should have a fairly similar trajectory to that. It may even be higher, as it might have a better Friday-Saturday hold than Furious 7 did.
That's astonishing. I thought it would do well, but not that well. To me, the trailers just look like they've thrown literally everything they could think of at this movie, and I feel like I've seen the whole thing already. Clearly I'm in the minority though! EDIT: Ok wow. $82.8 million opening day. 3rd best of all time. It's now tracking for between $180-$195 million. Amazing. This post has been edited by PaulM1983: 13th June 2015, 04:45 PM |
