BuzzJack Music Forum _ Harry Styles and One Direction _ Missed Opportunities

Posted by: JosephJamil 23rd January 2015, 03:57 PM

Copying a lot of the other AFs, what songs do you think were missed opportunities for a single release?

More Than This is the biggest for me, it did of course get a release in Australia as single #3 (they skipped Gotta Be You there), but it surely should have been single #2 here following WMYB, would've been able to pass 200k (silver) at LEAST. Instead, Gotta Be You barely sold an inch of what WMYB sold and is their lowest selling top 10 hit (naturally, You & I and Midnight Memories have sold less, but every other single has outsold it). The title track could've made a good single too, and Stole My Heart of course.

Take Me Home had a few good single choices left on it (Rock Me, They Don't Know About Us, Over Again), but I wouldn't say any of them were missed opportunities as such, I think the campaign was spot on actually. Midnight Memories didn't have any missed opportunities in terms of single choices, just in terms of bloody promo slots. And FOUR seems to be going smoothly so far but we'll see at the end of the campaign laugh.gif

What do you all think?

But also 'More Than This' instead of Gotta Be You obvs and then 'Rock Me', 'I Would', 'C'mon C'mon' and 'Diana' would've all been fab singles too.

stockholm syndrome is amazing and i don't think it'll be made a single so that would be my first main thought

everything on FOUR is pretty excellent, should be a big era for them if they bothered to release anything new.. taking too many tips from chezza

Yassss another Stockholm Syndrome fan Show them nasty haters Calum, Jack and Ball what the correct opinion is *.*

FOUR is bound to end up with some missed opportunities, being such a good album, let's just hope they don't do a Midnight Memories and leave it 2 more months before releasing the next single's EP sad.gif

Posted by: AdamAloud 23rd January 2015, 04:17 PM

Well the tour starts in 15 days so any chance of a single before April time is unlikely I feel sad.gif

Aside from "Kiss You" and "Live While We're Young" being two of the weakest on a really fab album, let's be honest.

"Happily" and "Don't Forget Where You Belong" from the "Midnight Memories" era (really whoever thought the title track was a good idea needed SACKING).

Also preemptively saying "Fireproof".

Kiss You is the BEST SONG ON TAKE ME HOME you FIEND!!

Happily would've actually made a good third single from MM but in all honesty, anything would flop with that awful promo campaign lmao.

'Kiss You' shade is the reason new members are put off joining in here!!

Posted by: Calum Hood 23rd January 2015, 06:27 PM

There are MANY songs better than 'Kiss You' on 'Take Me Home' happy.gif x

The only obvious choice from 'Up All Night' I'd have had as a single is the title track - could have done pretty well I imagine.

It's not my favourite track on the album by any means, but I do think they should have followed through with 'Rock Me' from 'Take Me Home' - reckon that could have performed *decently* as the last single from the album.

And then from 'Midnight Memories', 'Little White Lies', the single that was never meant to be </3 Reckon that could have performed decent if given a fair push. Best song on the album by far, but they never seem to go over to the second half of the album for singles. kink.gif

No f***ing way They Don't know About Us is.

More Than This,They Don't Know About Us,Little Black Dress and Don't Forget Where You Belong all should have been singles.

Firstly from the Up All Night era, instead of the dire "Gotta Be You", they could have released "Taken" instead. The "Take Me Home" era was pretty much perfect, and okay "Rock Me" would have been a decent choice but would have probably underperformed. The "Midnight Memories" era got the first 2 singles right, but never keen on the title track as a single, instead "Diana" would have been perfect 3rd single, and "Don't Forget Where We Belong" is another good choice for the final single. No gonna comment on the "Four" era yet, but "Stockholm Syndrome", "Fireproof" or even "No Control" are definite faves.

'They Don't Know About Us' is a bit overrated. It's GOOD of course, but I wouldn't exactly consider it to be the one that got away, and I find it to be on the same level as the majority of other tracks on the 'Take Me Home' album anyway. Seems like One Direction didn't even like it enough to perform it on tour either, so it had no chance.

Posted by: AdamAloud 24th January 2015, 01:47 PM

The same One Direction that didn't perform 'Stole My Heart' on tour either. They have awful taste in their own music.

Definitely agree that 'Diana' would have been PERFECT for single #3 wub.gif
