Which version of I Drove All Night do you guy prefer?

the story of the song is kinda funny, cos it was written for Roy Orbison, he recorded it in 87
but then he died so he never released it while alive.
Then in 1989, Cyndi Lauper recorded it and released it as the lead for her A Night to Remember album,
becoming a top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic, #6 in the US and #7 in the UK.

Then in 1992 Roy Orbison's label released a posthumous album that included I Drove All Night,
which was then finally released as a single, peaking at #7 in the UK. So same peak as Cyndi in the UK.

There is of course another popular version as Celine Dion also did a cover in the early 00s, #23 in the UK and #45 in the US.

so which one is your favourite? did you buy any?

personally I prefer Cyndi's version, very empowering, and I also did buy it back in the day, had a phase where I was a huge fan of hers.

I loved the Cyndi version and then I heard the Roy version, and that's my preference these days. Cyndi has her own style though, always liked her, but it was a shame it wasn't a single while Roy was alive, that would have been a great comeback track - Roy's vocals are hard to beat by anyone at his best, and even in his final recordings he still had a whopping set of pipes.

Roy Orbison's version - I find his voice is more emotive in it.

Roy. His voice is magnificent but it never sounds forced.

Roy of course. Have a soft spot for Cyndi's first two albums but had lost all interest by that point. Obviously heard it back then and I quite like her version.

Never heard and never want to hear Celine Dion's attempt.
