Maroon 5's biggest singles on the Official Chart
12 June 2021 | By Rob Copsey

17 years after making their UK chart debut, Maroon 5 are still racking up big hits across the world.

To date, the band have 22 Top 40 singles, including one chart-topper, plus two Number 1 albums. Maroon 5 will be hoping to add to that tally with their newly released seventh album, JORDI. Look at their UK chart history so far here.

Their biggest hit is their 2011 single Moves Like Jagger, which is one of the UK's best-selling singles of all time despite not reaching Number 1, spending seven weeks at Number 2. The Christina Aguilera-assisted track has 2.14 million chart sales, split between 1.54m downloads and 42.5m streams.

Maroon 5's second biggest song in the UK is the disco-pop Sugar (1.67m), which peaked Number 7 but logged an impressive 27 weeks inside the Top 40 in 2015, boosting it up their all-time chart.

Meanwhile, 2018 Top 10 Cardi B collaboration Girls Like You is in third (1.56m), while their only UK Number 1 to date, Payphone, is in fourth (1.5m).

One of Maroon 5's early hits, 2004's pop-rock ballad She Will Be Loved, rounds out their Top 5 on 1.38m. The song was key in helping their debut album Songs About Jane to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, which reached the top spot some 31 weeks after its release - around the time the single peaked at Number 4.

Further down Maroon 5's all-time Top 20, the band's most recent Top 10, Memories, is sixth (1.17m), and their big breakout hit This Love ranks tenth (608k). Despite missing the Top 40, 2017's Wait places at 18 as it continues to prove popular on streaming platforms, and 2007 Rihanna collaboration If I Never See Your Face Again is at 19.

This Love and She Will Be Loved being lower than Girls Like You feels wrong.

Also Makes Me Wonder needs more love.

Moves like jagger is their best hit but didn’t realise they’ve had quite a few other big hits too!

She will be loved is still maroon 5’s signature hit. It’s what everyone knows and loves and remains their most popular imo

Would Moves Like Jagger not potentially be more recognisable at this point?

(I don't know if it's just a "me" thing, but I don't think I'd heard SWBL until seeking it out not too long ago!)

Animals peaking at no.27 is a tragedy. It really is amazing - creepy video though. One very rare example where the US got it right (top3 there) and we got it wrong. Its overall “sales” are good though.

It would be higher if it wasn't released in 2004 ('She Will Be Loved' it's obviously higher - more accessible, and streamed lots still).

On the other hand, album sales were huge then... Albums 1 & 2 were during big album/(relatively) low singles sales eras, so their singles popularity is not *quite* represented - hence why Rihanna's 'Umbrella' is eclipsed by a fair few of her more recent songs...

It's probably a you thing, that's a hugely well-known song (although I'm not convinced it's more "recognisable" than 'Moves Like Jagger')

'Harder To Breathe' remains their absolute best for me!

Worth noting that though it's on a global level, She Will Be Loved has more Spotify streams than Moves Like Jagger, despite the latter's proximity to Spotify's heyday, and only a few hundred million streams ahead of their entirely Spotify ingratiated big hits, which implies that its ranking here is just a holdover from different chart eras' different sales standards, and in the long run, it's likely making its way to their top of their list.

As someone who's seen the whole thing play out, I don't know if I could say their earlier stuff *feels* bigger or not, but I can believe that (whether or not I ever want to hear it myself) it's more timeless and not dated by smelly production choices, so I get it that the old stuff would be rising to the top.

If I Never See Your Face Again really was a massive bomb considering how high both Rihanna and Maroon 5's profiles were at the time.

I like a small handful of their post-'Songs About Jane' releases ('Moves Like Jagger' being by far their best) but they sound like a completely different band with just the same name.

Funnily enough, I don’t like their first album at all but prefer the sound of their follow up. V is also a great album!

The article states that “This Love” has sold 608k but according to the BPI website it went Platinum in August 2019, surely it’s sold more than 8k since then. Maybe it should be 708k?
