Thank goodness for that! Heard it this morning in the car. I like the chorus more than the verse ... but overall ... I loved what I heard. There's still something about Rob's voice that ... grates on me a bit. You can tell the other three had a hand in writing this one. It reminds me of a few songs (but that's going to be inevitable with all songs I suppose ... and I suppose it is what can give a song its hook). Overall though ... there's an epic Moody Blues sound to it.

Kath

Edit ... I have to add though ... that a huge part of me is glad it will never overtake Rule The World, Patience and Shine for being Take That's best work.

I reckon the single and the album will be massive. Very modern sound. It will appeal to a lot of people.

Yep it's fantastic. It has a really fresh sound for them which is good because as much as I love The Circus album it was a bit Beautiful World 2.0 in places. Progress is going to be amazing! smile.gif

I quite liked it. It's very Robbie-heavy though?

It is, and I groaned a little inside when it first started but I suppose it's to be expected for his first single back with them.

Absoulutely adore the chorus, which is fundamentally much stronger than the verses. Anyway, heard the majority of it's premier on Moyles's show this morning and it's much more instant than what Greatest Day was. Definatly one of my favourites from them to date I'd Say biggrin.gif

I agree ... the verses are the weak points ... the vocals just aren't there for me (from either Rob or Gary).

Why is this not getting many replies? :melloe: it's a fantastic song and deserves to be talked about just as much as The Sats latest single!

Now that I've had time to calm down ... I think my initial good feeling about The Flood was actually just blessed relief that it is better than Shame. It is OK ... but I don't think it warrants the eulogies being bestowed upon it. Some people (not on this forum) are saying its the best single since Shine! WTF? Patience, Rule The World anyone? The Flood doesn't come close.

It's different. I can't compare it to RTW or Patience because this song is a major departure from what they've done previously.I've never heard anything quite like this before. What is it? Techno-rock?They have created something absolutely new as far as sound goes..
Outstanding! I am glad it's getting rave reviews from both TT and Robbie fanbases. It will be absolutely massive. They just need some good promo and it will easily outsell ''Rule The World'' (their biggest seller since reunion).

Tremendous song!!! Well done, Take That.

Ive just managed to get time to hear it today and i love it and its a very very strong single and bodes very well for whatto expect from the new album, i cant wait to hear progress now on the back of this. This re union so far is all good for me, i love shame and i love the flood and as i have always said the reunion for me was nothing about the guys themselves its about the music, if the music is good i will buy it and so far its brilliant and i have no hesitation spending money on buying the music.

DeNiro said it reminded him of something else ... and it did me too ... someone pointed out the chorus to Little Boots' Remedy ... just had a closer listen .... and it is quite similar. I don't think they've created something terribly new at all ... but as a single ... it is OK.

I wouldnt say they have created something new as in brand new sound never heard before, but from a take that perspective they have created a new sound for them. Whats good about that is it doesnt represent what robbie or take that have done in the past which shows they have kind of found a middle that no one can say oh thats a robbie sound or a gary barlow sound. When creating the music im sure that was partly in their mind that they needed a balance that people wouldnt be able to say this is a gary or robbie song with four backing singers so they have accomplished that change in my mind.

Im sure in some ways making and creating the progress album added a some deal of pressure to keep fans from both sides happy and what better way to do it than go in a direction that no really expected. Im confident progress wont disapoint so once again its highly likely i will be quiet looking forward to spending €10 of my hard earned cash on another take that album.

That was me Kath! I totally stand by it. Obviously as Patience came before Shine I am not including it but I genuinely prefer The Flood to Rule the World. I do like RTW but it has never been my favourite TT song. Different people have different tastes and I happen to think that The Flood is a great song.

I agree with you there. I'm not a RW fan at all and I would have preferred that they stay as a four piece but as I said before if I like the music I will buy it too. I thought Shame was OK. A nice enough song but I didn't like it enough to buy it and I'm not really fussed how it does tomorrow. I will definately be downloading The Flood though and am looking forward to hearing more from Progress now. I'm intrigued.

I agree about the flood been a great song and from first few listens i would rank it among one of their best singles, although certainly not as good as the classics never forget and rule the world. Again only time will tell, i always say if a song sounds good and you still love it 12 months after its release its a good one, so im not sure what i will think of the flood at that stage so i cant say if it will be a classic or not. For now, im delighted with the lead single and i hope it does very very well for them.
