Biography

The Jonas Brothers are an American pop rock band. Formed in 2005, they gained popularity from their appearances on the Disney Channel television network. They consist of three brothers: Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas. Raised in Wyckoff, New Jersey, the Jonas Brothers moved to Little Falls, New Jersey in 2005, where they wrote their first record that made its Hollywood release. In the summer of 2008, they starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock and its sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. They also starred as Kevin, Joe, and Nick Lucas, the band Lucas in their own Disney Channel series Jonas, which was rebranded as Jonas L.A. after the first season and cancelled after the second. The band released four albums: It's About Time (2006), Jonas Brothers (2007), A Little Bit Longer (2008), and Lines, Vines and Trying Times (2009).

In 2008, the group was nominated for the Best New Artist award at the 51st Grammy Awards and won the award for Breakthrough Artist at the American Music Awards. As of May 2009, before the release of Lines, Vines and Trying Times, they had sold over eight million albums worldwide. After a hiatus during 2010 and 2011 to pursue solo-projects, the group reconciled in 2012 to record a new album, which was cancelled following their break-up on October 29, 2013.

They have sold over 17 million albums worldwide. Six years following their split, the group reunited with the release of "Sucker" on March 1, 2019.

Biography

MoStack
Born and raised in Forest Gate, East London, British hip-hop producer, songwriter, and DJ Steel Banglez's first steps into music came when his mother taught him how to play various classical Indian instruments at a young age. Picking up the music bug, Banglez was then taught how to DJ by his older brother before immersing himself in the then-growing grime and U.K. garage scenes, regularly appearing on local pirate radio stations. After studying music production and audio engineering at London's SAE -- and finding himself serving time behind bars -- Banglez started producing for local talent, making a name for himself with tracks for the likes of Ghetts and Yung Meth, Wiley, and P Money. Banglez set himself apart from the standard grime production of the time, bringing in samples from Bollywood films, Jamaican dub, and Chinese music. After contacting Birmingham-based MC MIST via social media, Banglez hooked up with the vocalist to record the M.I.S. to the T EP in 2016. The standout track "Karlas Back" helped propel his production work into the spotlight. At the beginning of 2017 he issued the single Money -- which featured guest spots from the likes of MoStack, Abra Cadabra, Haile, and MIST -- while also signing a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell. A few months later, Banglez released "Bad," which saw him once again teaming up with MoStack, as well as Not3s, Yungen, and Mr Eazi. By year's end, the single reached number 50 on the U.K. pop chart. - iTunes

Fredo
London-based grime MC Fredo focuses his lyrics on his drug-dealing lifestyle, the streets that he calls home, and all the money he's made. Hailing from London's infamously tough Mozart Estate, Fredo was considered one of the leading figures in the notorious London gang Harrow Road Boys. He practiced his craft as an MC for years, before emerging in 2016 with the single "They Ain't 100." The track immediately garnered attention, including a small co-sign from Drake, who featured the track in his 30th birthday mix on OVO Sound Radio. The same year he released two further singles, "Trapspot" and "Pattern Gang," before appearing on Kojo Funds and Abra Cadabra's hit single "Dun Talkin [Remix]" alongside Yxng Bane, Frisco, and JME. In 2017 Fredo escalated the hype he had already received, releasing his third single, "Get the Pot," early in the year, quickly followed by his debut appearance on Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth, both in preparation for his debut full-length, Get Rich or Get Recalled, which was released independently in March of that year. - iTunes

I enjoyed Funky Friday, and Ay Caramba grew on me by the end! Otherwise, very little to report back about.

Biography

Calvin Harris
Adam Richard Wiles (born 17 January 1984), known professionally as Calvin Harris, is a Scottish DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer. His debut studio album I Created Disco was released in June 2007 and it spawned two UK top 10 singles "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls". In 2009, Harris released his second studio album Ready for the Weekend, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and was later certified gold by the BPI. Its lead single "I'm Not Alone" became his first song to top the UK Singles Chart.

Harris rose to international prominence with the release of his third studio album 18 Months in October 2012. Topping the UK charts, the album became his first to chart on the US Billboard 200 chart. All eight of the album's singles, including "Feel So Close", "Sweet Nothing" and "I Need Your Love" reached the top 10 in the UK. At the time, Harris broke the record for the most top 10 songs from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart with eight entries, surpassing Michael Jackson. Harris released his fourth studio album Motion in November 2014. It debuted at number two in the UK and at number five in the US and became Harris's second consecutive number one album on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Harris has collaborated with numerous other recording artists. His collaboration with Rihanna "We Found Love" became an international success, giving Harris his first number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In October 2014, he became the first artist to place three songs simultaneously on the top 10 of Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs chart. He also became the first British solo artist to reach more than one billion streams on Spotify. Harris has received ten Brit Award nominations—three for Best British Male and four Grammy nominations, winning a Grammy for Best Music Video in 2013. He received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2013 and at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards was named Top Dance/Electronic Artist.

One of the most successful musicians in contemporary British popular culture, Harris appeared on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in the United Kingdom. Additionally, Harris topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid DJs for five consecutive years from 2013 to 2017. Harris runs his own record label, Fly Eye Records.

Rag'n'Bone Man
Neo-blues & soul singer Rory Graham was born and raised in the small town of Uckfield in the southeast of England. Growing up on early blues and soul, he taught himself to sing by mimicking Muddy Waters, before discovering hip-hop. Starting out as an MC with a local drum'n'bass crew at age 15, he progressed to hip-hop open-mike nights in nearby Brighton, where he later moved, teaming up with local hip-hop crew the Rum Committee. At the same time, he continued to practice singing in private. At 19, he took part in a blues open-mike night at the encouragement of his father, and the rapturous response to his singing boosted his confidence enough to make him consider it as a career rather than rapping.

Graham's Rag 'n' Bone Man moniker came from his childhood memories of sitting in front of the TV with his grandfather, watching repeats of the British '60s sitcom Steptoe and Son, about a pair of rag-and-bone men -- dirt-poor street collectors who in bygone days gathered up rubbish in an attempt to find useful rags, bones, and scrap metal that could be sold to merchants for a few pennies. With his massive bulk, tattoo-covered arms, nose ring, shaved head, enormous beard, and typical garb of hoodie and jeans, Graham looked like an escapee from an early-2000s nu-metal band, but he blew crowds away as soon as he opened his mouth with his deep, powerful, soulful, bluesy vocals.

He released his debut EP, Bluestown, in 2012, followed by several EPs over the next few years, with 2014's Wolves and 2015's Disfigured standing out. Graham's early releases were more acoustic, but he evolved toward a more electronic sound with hip-hop-styled beats. In 2013, he signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, which enabled him to give up his day job as a caregiver for people with Asperger's syndrome. His increasing profile brought him to the attention of Columbia Records, which signed him in 2016. His debut single for Columbia, "Human," dropped in September of that year and was a big hit in several European countries. His first full-length effort (also entitled Human) saw release in early 2017. That same year, Graham was honored with two Brit Awards for British Breakthrough Act and the Choice Award.

Biography

Mark Daniel Ronson (born 4 September 1975) is a British musician, DJ, songwriter, and record producer. Although his debut album Here Comes the Fuzz (2003) failed to make an impact on the charts, his second album Version (2007) reached number two in the UK and included three top 10 singles. This earned him a Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist in 2008. His third studio album, Record Collection, was released on 27 September 2010, peaking at number two in the UK. He is also a member of Silk City with Diplo.

In 2014, Ronson achieved his first UK and US number one single with "Uptown Funk," which featured vocals from Bruno Mars. The song earned Ronson the 2015 Brit Award for British Single of the Year, and the 2016 Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. His fourth studio album, Uptown Special, was released in January 2015, and became his first UK number one album and also peaked at number 5 in the US.

Ronson produced "Cold Shoulder" on Adele's first album, 19. He received acclaim for producing Amy Winehouse's album Back to Black, for which he won the Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, Best Pop Vocal Album and Record of the Year for the single "Rehab". He has won Record of the Year twice, in 2008 as a producer and in 2016 as a performing artist. One of the most successful musicians in contemporary British popular culture, Ronson appeared on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in Britain.

Biography

Streatham, South London-born grime artist Dave (aka Santan Dave) may only have been 16 when he entered the grime spotlight, but his conscious lyrical style made him sound well beyond his years. Growing up, Dave was inspired to pursue art in some form. Taking cues from his older brothers, he initially tried his hand at animation before moving on to piano before finally settling on becoming a fully-fledged grime MC; unfortunately, his brothers would end up serving lengthy prison sentences. To cope with the drastic alteration to their lives, Dave burrowed even deeper into his music, causing him to develop a socially aware form of wordplay that set him apart from his peers. Despite starting to write bars around the age of ten, it was six years later that Dave would make his first appearance, freestyling on an underground grime channel, Bl@ckbox, in 2015. In January of the following year Dave returned with his first music video/single "JKYL+HYD," cementing his reputation for deep subject matter and ambitious lyrics. In the following months, Dave delivered two key freestyles on BBC Radio 1. The first was on Semtex's 1Xtra show and the second on Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth. A number of singles followed, including a standout collaboration with West London's own rising star, AJ Tracey, on "Thiago Silva." By September Dave was ready to drop his first EP, Six Paths. The release was a success in its own right, but gained even more attention when Canadian rapper Drake remixed the single "Wanna Know," bringing Dave's sound to an American audience. - iTunes

The Norwegian producer (born Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll in 1991) cut his teeth crafting bootleg remixes of songs like Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” and James Blake’s “The Wilhelm Scream”, fleshing out the originals with contrasting touches: EDM drops inspired by his fondness for Avicii and ruminative melodies reflective of his childhood piano studies. In 2013, layering an a cappella of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” over dancing marimbas and a teasingly measured 4/4 beat, he hit upon his slow-motion signature. The following year, he was called up to replace an ailing Avicii on Tomorrowland’s main stage, and his relaxed, sunny vibe stopped EDM’s harder-faster-louder ethos in its tracks. Kygo’s dreamy, pioneering tropical house—encapsulated in singles like the lilting “Firestone” and his even-more-weightless remix of a-ha’s “Take On Me”—cast its influence across the pop music landscape, reaching as far as Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber’s smash, “Where Are Ü Now”, and securing Kygo collabs with Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Miguel and Imagine Dragons. - iTunes

Rita Ora
With her soulful vocals and joyful energy, British-Albanian pop singer Rita Ora made her debut in the late 2000s, quickly rising to the top of the U.K. charts with her debut album Ora. Even after years of label issues threatened to halt her career, she remained on the charts and issued the triumphant sophomore effort Phoenix in 2018.

Born Rita Sahatçiu in Pristina, Kosovo to Albanian parents, she fled the former Yugoslavia with her family in 1991, relocating to England, where she was raised in Notting Hill. An attendee of the famous Sylvia Young Theater School, she sang from an early age and honed her skills singing in pubs and at open mikes. In 2007, she made her first official appearance, guesting on Craig David's single "Awkward"; the next year, she joined Tinchy Stryder on his single "Where's Your Love." Her big break arrived in 2009, when an open mic performance attended by one of Jay-Z's A&R men landed her a deal with the rapper's label, Roc Nation. While working on her debut album, she provided the vocals for DJ Fresh's 2012 drum'n'bass hit "Hot Right Now," which topped the charts in the U.K. She returned to the number one spot that same year with her debut solo single, "R.I.P.," the first taste of her first full-length, Ora, which went straight to the number one spot on the U.K. album charts.

Six years would pass before a proper sophomore follow-up, as Ora remained mired in label issues (eventually leading to a messy split with Roc Nation in 2016). Yet she remained on the charts with a consistent string of singles and collaborations, notably 2014's "Black Widow" with Iggy Azalea (her first Top 10 in the U.S.); 2015's "Poison"; 2017's Top 10 hit "Your Song," and 2018's "For You," a duet with Liam Payne for the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack that topped charts across Europe and was a modest hit in the U.S. Her official sophomore full-length, the aptly-titled Phoenix, finally arrived in late 2018 on Atlantic Records. Along with a star-studded list of producers -- including Alesso, Avicii, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat -- Ora also recruited Julia Michaels ("Keep Talking"), Rudimental ("Summer Love"), and Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, and Charli XCX on the single "Girls."

Biography

James Arthur was the victor of the British X Factor's ninth season in 2012, winning the public vote with a rendition of Shontelle's rousing ballad "Impossible." Born in Middlesbrough, England, Arthur had written and performed in various bands since the age of 15, as well as performing solo in pubs and bars in his hometown. Many of the singer/songwriter's early recordings illustrate the pop/rock and hip-hop influences that helped shape his unique voice and style. Before he appeared on The X Factor, Arthur made it into the final 200 contestants of the U.K.'s The Voice TV series in 2011, without managing to progress any further. A year later, he auditioned for The X Factor, where he sang judge Tulisa Contostavlos' song "Young" and subsequently made it through the boot-camp round and into the live shows.

From then on, Arthur showcased his considerable talents and slowly improved under the watchful eye of mentor Nicole Sherzinger. He was pitted against Jahméne Douglas and Christopher Maloney in the final round of the contest, where he impressed the audience with performances of Cy Grant's "Feeling Good," Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love," and Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On." The final song of the evening -- the version of Shontelle's "Impossible" -- was released immediately after Arthur was announced as the winner and made it to number one in the U.K. and Ireland, while also charting across Europe. He then went on tour with the X Factor show, playing across the U.K. in huge, sold-out arenas such as Wembley and the Birmingham LG.

After his X Factor success, Arthur worked alongside singer/songwriter Labrinth and Graham Stack (JLS, Take That, Westlife) in preparation for his debut album. He put out the eponymous release later that year; the album featured "Impossible" and "Roses" (with Emeli Sandé), as well as follow-up singles "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You," "Recovery," and "Get Down." Arthur departed from Syco Music the following year and briefly returned to the scene with an independent release, the rap mixtape All the World's a Stage. The singer/songwriter made a return in 2016, signing a record deal with Columbia and issuing his second full-length effort, Back from the Edge. The stripped-down and reflective record was led by the singles "Say You Won't Let Go" and "Remember Who I Was." The next year, he was featured on Rudimental's "Sun Comes Up" and issued his own solo single, "Naked." Arthur released a string of singles in 2018, including "Rewrite the Stars," a duet with Anne-Marie that was featured on The Greatest Showman: Reimagined.

Biography

Miley Ray Hemsworth (née Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus; November 23, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. After playing minor roles in the television series Doc and the film Big Fish as a child, she became a teen idol in 2006, starring in the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana as the character Miley Stewart. Her father, musician Billy Ray Cyrus, also starred in the series, which aired for four seasons until 2011.

Cyrus has earned three number-one albums on the US Billboard 200 with Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), Breakout (2008), and Bangerz (2013). Her releases The Time of Our Lives (2009), Can't Be Tamed (2010), and Younger Now (2017) debuted in the top-five in the United States, while her album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz (2015) was released for free online streaming on SoundCloud. Further, Cyrus has attained an additional two number-one and three top-ten soundtracks credited as Hannah Montana. She has also earned nine top-ten entries on the US Billboard Hot 100: "See You Again", "7 Things", "The Climb", "He Could Be the One" (as Hannah Montana), "Party in the U.S.A.", "Can't Be Tamed", "We Can't Stop", "Malibu" and the chart-topping "Wrecking Ball".

Cyrus launched her film career as a voice actress in the animated film Bolt (2008). She starred in the feature films Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) and The Last Song (2010). On television, she was the host of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and has hosted Saturday Night Live three times since 2011. Cyrus has been featured as a coach on the singing competition television series The Voice; she has appeared in two seasons of the show since her debut in 2016.

Cyrus has earned numerous awards and nominations, was recognized as "Artist of the Year" by MTV in 2013, and was included on the annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in 2008 and 2014, respectively. Her image has been the subject of significant media commentary and public controversy, as she changed it in the early 2010s from wholesome to a highly sexual persona. Cyrus is an outspoken animal rights advocate, and adopted a vegan lifestyle in 2014. That year, she founded the non-profit Happy Hippie Foundation, which focuses on youth homelessness and the LGBT community.

Is anyone here anywhere near Broadcasting House? If so, can they nip over there with a mug of hot lemon for Scott?

Biography

Less than a year ago back in June 2017, a little-known 6-part group from Hackney in London, released their melodic Yo Darlin' featuring Geko. It was a hit, captivating the scene and homogenising a genre-blending era into a worldwide vibe.

However, what was seemingly like instant overnight success to some, was in fact, a much more complex by-product of over 4 years of musical exertion, cultural fusion, and eventually, a blooming sound. Now, in 2018, the chart-infiltrating NSG are back, pushing up their game and timing their break out.

Biography

By combining elements of alternative hip-hop with Jack Johnson-esque cabana pop on early demos, Naples, Florida's Dominic Fike went from unknown to major-label signee in 2018. His debut EP, Don't Forget About Me, Demos, arrived later the same year.

After some demos emerged in 2017, Fike, then in his early twenties, was well covered in the music press for signing a multi-million-dollar deal with Sandy Boys and Columbia Records before even releasing a song. They put out the reworked Don't Forget About Me, Demos in mid-October 2018. The set's opening track, "3 Nights," topped a million streams before the end of the month.
