Cannot wait to hear new music from them! 'Permanent Vacation' was a nice little teaser on the tour! wub.gif

YAY

Incredibly excited wub.gif

Posted by: Calum Hood 12th July 2015, 04:31 PM

There's a new website (http://www.5onthewall.com/), with a countdown of 3 days to go. So close, omg. cheer.gif

Posted by: AdamAloud 12th July 2015, 04:34 PM

I only really enjoyed 'Don't Stop' from the last era but I shall go into this with an open mind.

Posted by: J▲hq 15th July 2015, 06:15 PM

You only enjoyed the weakest single? thinking.gif

This is seemingly called "She's Kinda Hot" going by the Radio 1 playlist (hopefully it being on there already means the release date will be in a month or less!) and there's something currently happening on the '5 on the wall' website.

'Permanent Vacation' was a nice teaser but I'm glad we're getting something completely new as the first single (though that title is a bit (o ))

Posted by: Noahspike 15th July 2015, 06:36 PM

'She Looks So Perfect' -> 'She's Kinda Hot'

I wonder if the quality of the second era's lead single will reflect the downgraded subject matter~ ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

(Bearing in mind the first one contained the line about American Apparel underwear so standards aren't sky-high) :/

Posted by: mr_aly 15th July 2015, 06:37 PM

I also think 'Don't Stop' was by far the best, though I'm not keen on them at all and that's just a guilty pleasure.

('Amnesia' was also good).

Posted by: Calum Hood 15th July 2015, 07:05 PM

All that's happening on the 5onthewall website is someone drawing the single cover. kink.gif

Liking that title, and am looking forward to hearing this!

Posted by: Jonjo 15th July 2015, 07:07 PM

Very excited for this. 'Don't Stop' is my favourite too and is the song that made me take notice of them/made me want to listen to their (amazing) debut! Hope it's another banger. They're doing a great job in filling the Busted hole I've got in my heart!

Posted by: J▲hq 15th July 2015, 07:14 PM

Hmm. I'll reserve judgement kink.gif

This is on UK iTunes now for those interested, I'll give it a listen later but I haven't really been much of a fan of any of their material so far.

Posted by: Calum Hood 17th July 2015, 11:45 AM

The build up at the beginning is a bit slow, but after the first chorus, the pace picks up thankfully and it turns into such a *.* song. Absolutely loving this wub.gif

Posted by: Cameron 17th July 2015, 12:19 PM

This is a mess ohmy.gif

Perfect summary, about a minute in I was wondering where the chorus was but when it eventually comes in it's brilliant. I love the ad-libby bits laugh.gif I also love how it's not just 'she's kinda hot' all the way through but they change it up after the first verse.

Very catchy, instantly a better single than Don't Stop imo even if it never reaches the highs of She Looks So Perfect.

Posted by: JosephStyles 17th July 2015, 01:19 PM

I also agree with Calum actually, the structure feels slightly odd at first but it's good, a solid track!

Just hit #1 on UK iTunes, I wonder where it could end up officially?

Posted by: AdamAloud 17th July 2015, 01:27 PM

I actually really like the verses and the slightly odd structure but that chorus is a mess.

Posted by: Kl▲mzee 17th July 2015, 01:29 PM

Listened to this with low expectations but this is actually pretty good ohmy.gif sounds a bit more mature(?) imo and is probably my fave 5SOS single so far ohmy.gif

Posted by: harryflynn0908 17th July 2015, 01:47 PM

It could grow on me but I haven't like a 5SOS song since She Looks So Perfect sad.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 17th July 2015, 03:12 PM

Finding this such a mess at the moment, so disappointing sad.gif

Posted by: mr_aly 17th July 2015, 05:02 PM

It sort of reminds me of what Blink 182 covering The Offspring's 'Why Don't You Get A Job' would sound like.

It's not too bad, not no 'Don't Stop'.

Posted by: Calum Hood 17th July 2015, 09:42 PM

I don't fully understand the 'Don't Stop' love in here, remains their weakest single IMO, despite being a good song though. kink.gif

1. Amnesia
2. Good Girls
3. She Looks So Perfect
-
4. She's Kinda Hot (will probably shoot past 'She Looks So Perfect' soon enough)
-
5. Don't Stop

I like this, it's gonna require being more of a grower than all of the uptempos they've done before because of the reason Calum gave, it takes a while to get going, so as a WHOLE, the song isn't fantastic. However, the last part of the song is... it's gonna take some getting used to but it's very addictive and I already can't stop going back to it.

Reminds me a lot of a slightly tamer 'Teenagers' by My Chemical Romance.

Posted by: Dobbo 18th July 2015, 11:28 AM

In the agreement that Don't Stop is easily their best. She Looks So Perfect is also great despite hating it at first laugh.gif

A bit undecided on this atm, can see that Teenagers comparison though. Could be another grower...

Posted by: MOBILE ADAM 18th July 2015, 11:36 AM

I didn't mind SLSP and Don't Stop but this is quite boring for me. Definitely doesn't sound like a number one so hope it stays clear of the top 5.

Posted by: Juicy Jay ジ 18th July 2015, 12:31 PM

I'll also echo the Don't Stop love, it's my favourite of theirs too.

The new single is good! It reminded me of commercial pop punk(?) songs from the late 90s/early 00s.

Posted by: JimmyT 18th July 2015, 03:03 PM

She Looks So Perfect is by far their best track. The rest are pretty awful, dont get the Dont Stop love, I really cant abide it.

Posted by: Iz~ 19th July 2015, 05:50 PM

This is quite amazing guys, I don't normally say this about their kind of act but I'm kind of in love with this. Even more than I was with She Looks So Perfect. Definitely maturing into a nice band, that guitar is really good - not too close to Teenagers but close enough that I can see the comparison.

YES

I was just about to post that it is so similar to Teenagers. The whole track is very My Chemical Romance 2005/2006.

I had no expectations for this really, the only single of theirs I really loved was She Looks So Perfect (Amnesia and Don't Stop were ok but I didn't care for Good Girls at all), but this is SO good. So catchy and although I felt disappointed with the first half or so at first I agree in the long run it's good because the way it builds make it an explosive song when it does come alive. I'm so impressed with this <3

Just got around to finally listening to this... it's amazing. Agreed completely with the MCR circa 2005-2006 era (not a bad thing in my book!)

exactly, I completely agree with you

Posted by: Scherz 22nd July 2015, 11:53 PM

The only problem with this being a throwback to the MCR sound of '05/'06 is that it wasn't exactly hugely popular the first time around.
And considering it's only top 10 on iTunes in Bahrain & the Philippines, it's not that popular this time either.

I just don't think it's the kind of progression the fans wanted for them, let alone the casual listener.

Posted by: JosephStyles 22nd July 2015, 11:59 PM

Well it's an OA/OS release, it's fallen considerably everywhere since the release because the fans have bought it already tongue.gif It will pick up in many places again when airplay kicks in and the video's released. It's ridiculously early to say it's not popular this time, or it's not what the fans want or whatever.

Posted by: Scherz 23rd July 2015, 12:19 AM

Most releases are OA/OS these days without initial airplay or a video & they have stuck around much longer.
It's not ridiculously early.. past the fans who is going to buy it? I may be wrong but I can't see this being a big hit anywhere.

Posted by: Iz~ 23rd July 2015, 12:38 AM

MCR were big at the time, and their sound especially from those years are the sorts of songs that get more well regarded with age (I'm sure there was hate at the time given its association with the emo phase, but now that's gone things like Teenagers and Black Parade in general are looked back on fondly) so saying it's not popular seems very disingenuous. Perhaps what I wouldn't say is that I'd expect it to be popular with their current fanbase but if we assume they'd buy anything from them then that's a good calculated route.

No one is doing this type of music very successfully now, and it could well get picked up wider than just pop stations once airplay kicks in. It may go completely the other way, but this does seem like a natural progression into becoming a more mature band and I'm pleased they've done it, no matter what success they get. Not every artist should be Avril Lavigne.

Don't get me wrong, I loved MCR. And I didn't say they weren't popular, of course they were.. they had 'Welcome To The Black Parade', but look at the numbers and you'll see they weren't huge.
I understand why they're starting to transition to this 'maturer' sound because they were probably very influenced as youngsters by MCR/Blink etc..
And I know you're not supposed to chase trends but it seems strange to emulate a sound that didn't do much initially. It's why MCR faded out in the first place.
As a rock/pop band who earned their success chasing the 16-24 demo (maybe even younger), you'd think it would be a little more commercial is all I'm saying.

Posted by: Calum Hood 23rd July 2015, 02:37 PM

What's the point in chasing hit after hit with pop-rock if it's just not the direction they want to go in as a band though? Despite the more pop-oriented songs, when they perform live you can tell they're slightly more to the rock side. I don't think they'll be losing any fans by putting 'She's Kinda Hot' out there.

The music vid is out in an hour and a half according to Ashton's instagram *.* LOVE their music vids so looking forward to this one!

Posted by: Jonjo 3rd August 2015, 09:18 PM

The video's alright. Not quite sure what to make of it tbh. I was kind of expecting a bit more of a storyline, but it's a good video despite not being what I expected!

Posted by: JosephStyles 3rd August 2015, 09:23 PM

MARRY ME ASHTON

It's a good video, a lot of fun I think, not their best but still great and works with the song. Big boost now please wub.gif

Posted by: Maurice Horan 3rd August 2015, 09:46 PM

I don't know what to make of this video, first you see the beginning of a storyline but then it gets a bit messy. Have to say Ashton hasn't looked as good in ages as he did in this video.

Posted by: Calum Hood 3rd August 2015, 11:30 PM

LOVING that video! Suits the song perfectly I think. And Calum looking PERFECT once again in another video. damn: wub.gif

Posted by: Joe. 4th August 2015, 02:55 PM

The song is SO good. The video is *.* - They just all look so hot.

Indeed! Calum, Luke and Mikey look amazing wub.gif Even Ashton does (the arms!!1!), although I'm not loving his hair at the moment kink.gif (*cue Joseph #longhairdontcare post*)

Posted by: CallumDC 5th August 2015, 02:24 PM

the video has made me warm to the song even more - i love it! luke looks gorgeous as usual and the others look great too (has calum put on a bit of weight? he was really thin before but now he looks really buff) wub.gif

Posted by: beth_h94 10th August 2015, 12:14 PM

It took me a while to get into it tbh, it seemed like two songs put together to try and create one. But now i've listened to it more it's growing on me smile.gif
