23. Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me // 3.39

Taking the wooden spoon is the very last GA single. Widely regarded by the fans as a disastrous misfire from them, the single release was rather a mess with next to no promotion at all and resulted in charting at #97. I gave it a -1 not because it's a BAD song, but because it's so, so un-Girls Aloud in both style and lyrical content. Basically, you can tell Xenomania had no part in this. A bit of a limp fizzle out from a group so spectacular as Girls Aloud is certainly NOT what I'd envisaged as a last ever single from them. (Unless that FIFTEEN reunion is coming this year?...)

No shock there! Honestly I quite like it but it really does pale in comparison to their other singles. Justice for On the Metro.

'Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me' gets a hard time. It may be un-Girls Aloud but it's certainly not a dreadful song or anything like that. I'd imagine it would be pretty respected had it been part of Nicola Roberts' solo album; it fits the theme of her album perfectly and she absolutely shines vocally on this. That said, I'd probably find it hard to lift it that far from the bottom of Girls Aloud's singles discography, mostly because of the high standard of music and the fact I hold more memories with the other songs.

Lmao bye at that.

'Call the Shots' has ALWAYS been my favourite GA song so that to win obviously, although I didn't give it my 11 in my rate because 'Untouchable' has shot up in my affections SO MUCH recently. It's rivalling CTS now tbh mellow.gif wub.gif

22. Walk This Way // 4.03

BuzzJack's least favourite cover version single is Walk This Way (originally by Aerosmith / Run-D.M.C.)! This collaboration with the Sugababes was the first Girls Aloud single not to have Xenomania on production duty - instead it was Dallas Austin who took the helm, the man responsible for a few of the Sugababes' 'Taller in More Ways' tracks (including Push the Button). The charity single was released in March 2007 and provided Girls Aloud with their 3rd #1 hit. However its chart life was short-lived, spending a mere 7 weeks inside the Top 100. With sales of just 140,000 as of 2014, it also holds the dubious honour of being one of just 26 #1 singles from the 21st century to not be certified! Before settling on Walk This Way, other options for songs to cover included Blur's 'Girls & Boys' and Candi Staton's 'You Got the Love', the latter being Nicola Roberts' suggestion & favourite choice!

I know everyone seems to hate the 'Walk This Way' collab but I just love it. I know deep down it's shit but it is just such good fun.

I do enjoy 'Walk This Way' but I'd probably put it bottom of their singles discography. I like the intro and the verses but the chorus is a bit of a let down. The song is elevated by the video; they really go to town on the GA vs. Babes theme. Also, can we recognise that the iconic SONIA from Eastenders makes an appearance?! :')

Love "Walk This Way" - I completely forgot Amelle was in the Sugababes when this was released.

I've said it so much in the past but I'd love Little Mix and Fifth Harmony to do a similar girl group team up track for charity wub.gif

21. I Think We're Alone Now // 5.21

Next out is 'I Think We're Alone Now', the second single from the girls' first Greatest Hits album. The original plan was to have a cover of 'What A Feeling' on 'The Sound Of Girls Aloud' but 3 days before the album was mastered, the girls contacted management and asked to record 'I Think We're Alone Now' instead. As such, the original recording that featured on the album is much different to the poppers o'clock single remix. It managed to chart at #4 in the busy Christmas release week, which isn't too bad going all things considered. The video was shot at Café de Paris in London, where they shot 3 different endings, with fans voting for which ending they liked best, which was then the version used on all the music channels. The above ending was not selected, a bit of a misjudgement on who their core fanbase were kink.gif

I Think We're Alone Now gets a hard time I think, it's a lot of fun! Not one of their very best but still great. The single mix is muuuuuuuch better than the album version too!

Didn't vote in this, but I'll probably follow along while I can~ Disappointed to see Walk This Way and I Think We're Alone Now out so soon! Not in the running for best by a mile, but I really enjoy both of those singles and would put them A LITTLE higher than this?

20. See The Day // 5.30

Three covers in a row now, and the second Christmas time release in a row too. See the Day is a cover of a Dee C. Lee song, and was released as the third single from Chemistry in December 2005. It was released just four weeks after previous hit Biology, and was an airplay smash hit, becoming only their third airplay top 10, following Sound of the Underground and I'll Stand By You. It fared less well in the chart though, debuting at #9, their lowest charting song to date. It spent a second week top 10, at #10, but only four weeks top 40 in total.
