What do you think will happen in pop in 2018?

It's always fun to refer back to these predictions at the end of the year to see how right/wrong you were...

I've made 20 predictions:

Cardi B will be one of the biggest stars of the year, featuring on A LOT of tracks

Rita Ora's album will be out before May

Beyonce will surprise release another album

Jess Glynne will come back to muted success

Years & Years will make a big return

Bastille will get a #1 album

Louisa Johnson will finally release her next single in the first half of the year

Rihanna will be quiet for another year

Little Mix will release a new single in the first half of the year

Little Mix will get another #1 album in Q4

Little Mix will announce a hiatus before the end of the year

The debut performance for Little Mix's single will be on the BGT Final

Liam Payne will get a #1

Jax Jones - Breathe will be a top 5 hit

Ariana Grande will return in a HUGE way, particularly in the UK

Dua Lipa will squeeze out another single from her album with an added feature

Clean Bandit will get a #1 album

Gaga will cancel at least 5 of her Vegas shows due to poor health

The Weeknd will have a #1 single

Troye Sivan will have a hit in the UK

Definetly think Ariana will have a HUGE year if she releases this year. Can see Cardi B doing well this year also.

Think UK Rap will continue to be successful through the first half of the year before peaking commercially in May/June time. I predict a big year for Chance the Rapper, Justin Timberlake, Khalid, Mabel, MoStack and Steel Banglez particularly.

- Ariana Grande will release her 4th album, it'll be her best selling album in the UK to date giving her a second number one album alongside a smash hit lead single.

- Zayn's second album will be released in Q2, chart low end of top ten and then fall out the top 100 in a matter of weeks.

- Jess Glynne will return and flop.

- Mollie King will release her debut album in March/April, it'll scrape into Top 10 (still riding Strictly hype and the buzz of her 'relationship' with AJ) before dropping out of the Top 100 after about three weeks.

- Little Mix will have a further two number one singles and another number one album in Q4.

- Fifth Harmony will announce a 'hiatus' that they will never return from.

- Justin Bieber or Drake will release the 'song of the summer' that'll be dreadful.

Ari to go stratospheric on singles and albums
Rihanna to have massive comeback in Q4
Beyonce to release Q4 too - she seems to release every two and a half years
Ed to dominate BRITs snatching another #1
Little Mix score 5th #1 single and another #1 album
Alexandra Burke to bag top 5 album
Justin Bieber will have at least one #1 single
Kesha wins a Grammy.

Ariana will return MASSIVELY - like really BIG
Jess Glynne will try to return but will flop
Little Mix will continue to dominate but will have a smaller focus on the UK I think
Little Mix will unfortunately announce a hiatus but will go against the odds and will actually continue (late on)
Alexandra Burke will actually return to moderate success
Leona Lewis will try to return but will flop
Cheryl will return but will only do ok
Drake will have another big year
Katy will attempt to rebrand herself but will only add more damage
Local acts like Mabel, Dave and Yungen will only become more popular
Louis Tomlinson will put out an album that doesn't do well at all
Justin Timberlake will come back for another big era but will disappear quite quickly
Beyonce will try a traditional album campaign and will do very well
Miley Cyrus will start over a new image that is more pop and will do ok (better than Younger Now but not as well as Bangerz)
The Official Charts will continue to introduce annoying rules that make the charts more complicated and harder to grasp.
Taylor Swift will try to gain even more success but the UK just won't be here for it.
Justin could possible return and have more singles success.
Some underground/small will have an explosive year - think Jorja Smith etc.

So basically, everyone established will flop (streaming has made and will make music taste change even quicker). Only a few will do well (Little Mix, Beyonce, Drake etc.) and Ariana will outdo everyone - I think 2018 will really be her year!

• A Fifty Shades Freed single will contend for #1 in the next couple weeks
• Justin Timberlake will have another massive comeback (more in tune to the 20/20 Experience era than CSTF)
• ACR will allow more dance songs to come out of nowhere and smash
• Let Me Go becomes a surprise top 20
• End Game gains moderate success, but the rest of the era will do as well as the rest of the Prism era
• The #1 song of the year will be something released in the spring
• Bastille get a sleeper hit with World Gone Mad
• G-Eazy will have two hits smashing at the same time

I actually see the music scene getting extremely ballad-heavy for the next couple months but then things start picking back up again. 2013 had that same trend I think.

In a pre-planned chart "event", Adele and Ed Sheeran will release exactly the same song on the same day and break Spotify.

The chart rules will be changed again so that songs may only stay top ten for one week each, only last four minutes or less and only feature a maximum of ten supporting artists per song, ruining the planned Calvin Harris feat. Everyone collab.

The biggest selling artist of the year will be Daniel Bedingfield.

The Christmas number 1 will be a cover version of 'Fairytale of New York' by Sam Smith and Mariah Carey, feat Stormzy.

Grime will still be around, trying to dumb our youth to the point of absolute dumbness and people who like actual music will still be crying and waiting for this rubbish 'music' to go away....

Is Mabel not Swedish?

I'd say Swedish-British, dunno about her upbrining but her dad is English (Cameron McVey of Massive Attack) and her mum is Swedish (Neneh Cherry), she's based in London and her music is very London I'd say, it clearly draws from the local music scene so her "Britishness" shows laugh.gif
