BGT returns in a week on Saturday for it's 13th series, following Lost Voice Guy's win last year.

Ant will also be back after his TV break last year.

Metro are also reporting Susan Boyle will be one of the live show performers with her lead single from her new album.

Posted by: Common Sense 28th March 2019, 05:48 PM

I love BGT. Far better than X-Factor

Posted by: Cqmerqn 3rd April 2019, 01:18 PM

It feels like there’s 0 hype for this laugh.gif

Posted by: Wall 3rd April 2019, 01:34 PM

it will still absolutely smash the ratings

Posted by: dobbo 3rd April 2019, 01:35 PM

This came around quickly again it feels!

Posted by: Mack. 3rd April 2019, 03:35 PM

There's meant to be a champions edition this year isn't there?

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 3rd April 2019, 03:36 PM

This means I have to start working on the BGT fandom again doesn't it laugh.gif Feel free to make my job easier on there or contributing to discussion!

It's been heavily rumored but not yet officially confirmed I believe!

Really looking forward to that as well.

Posted by: Liаm 3rd April 2019, 06:00 PM

I thought it was basically confirmed, it should be good but I feel like all the good/obvious ones were on the AGT version anyway so it's just gonna be that again except with worse judges and worst hosts laugh.gif It was really good seeing the range of choices though so if they had some different ones it'd be cool.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 5th April 2019, 05:27 PM

Also SNT spin-off In For a Penny will air before the second episode next week at 19:30 - quite looking forward to that!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th April 2019, 04:46 PM

Not 100% sure, but judging from the preview they've posted Simon's Golden Buzzer will be tonight

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th April 2019, 06:32 PM

That second act was unexpected laugh.gif

Posted by: Mart!n 6th April 2019, 07:04 PM

That was the best act of the show, how creepy was that ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th April 2019, 07:23 PM

That comedian completely ripped off Nina Conti's act!

Posted by: lewistgreen 6th April 2019, 07:27 PM

And Keith Lemon has been doing it on Celebrity Juice for years

Posted by: Jade 6th April 2019, 07:34 PM

So glad to have this back *.*

My faves were the creepy magician and those two guys balancing at the end (seriously impressive ohmy.gif) - basically the weird but good ones laugh.gif

Posted by: Mack. 6th April 2019, 07:43 PM

I see David Watson is back for the tenth time.

Most of that final act was the sort pf thing we've seen before. The last bit, though, was something else. How do you even begin to think about doing that and practising it?

The primary school children were wonderful. They so obviously loved what they were doing and that joy was transferred to the audience.

Yeah it was pretty much exactly the same as The Giang Brothers last year but that balancing towards the end really stepped it up, was so hard to watch!

Posted by: Mack. 6th April 2019, 08:28 PM

Most of it was just like the Giang Brothers the last act. I hope Nina Conti will respond to that ripoff audition.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 7th April 2019, 12:26 PM

Good to see David J Watson back, one year he needs to go through!

Also that primary school reminded me so much of Nativity and Mr Poppy. tongue.gif

Posted by: PaulM1983 7th April 2019, 12:44 PM

I immediately thought of Nina when that ventriloquist was on. I did laugh at him, but it was only because David went all out for him. Other than that, he wasn't nearly as good at the actual ventriloquism and voices as Nina was.

The head teacher made my heart melt. That was so beautiful to watch. He clearly loves those kids to bits and they had the time of their lives up there.

Posted by: Suedehead2 7th April 2019, 12:48 PM

I wonder how that ventriloquist gets on with ordinary audience members (as Nina Conti does) rather than professional show-offs such as David Walliams.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 7th April 2019, 12:51 PM

Also Nina literally did her act on a show David was hosting!

Posted by: Common Sense 8th April 2019, 07:29 AM

Absolutely loved the opening show. Even watched it again yesterday on ITV2. The school choir. Elizabeth the magician, sword act, singing piano playing mum, Dalek, great stuff.

Sad news. Jack Saunders, 25, part of dance act Green Force Five, who have reached the live semis, has committed suicide. ITV are still deciding whether to show the audition.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 8th April 2019, 08:03 AM

They might have to show it - as in the bit with the rooms they will be stood with other contestants.

But after that it wil depend if the act want to carry on without him. Very sad though sad.gif

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 8th April 2019, 08:51 AM

Well Flakefleet releeased their Christmas campaign song a year early didn't they kink.gif

My favourite was the comedy pianist (forgot her name already oops), agree with the Nina Conti comparisons for the ventriloquist and the Vardanyan brothers are basically the same as the Giangs from last year tongue.gif

Posted by: troublepink 8th April 2019, 09:38 AM

Loved the first episode, especially the creepy magician and the school kids.

I don't normally like kids singing/dance acts but they were brilliant. I was good to see an act like that where they looked like they were genuinely having fun, and the teacher didn't care if everyone is in perfect line, as long as they were enjoying themselves.

Posted by: Mack. 8th April 2019, 01:53 PM

The 'Dalek' was just really bad.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 8th April 2019, 04:14 PM

Martyn Crofts did the Dalek thing in 2012, and was much better!

Posted by: JosephAvery 8th April 2019, 04:17 PM

Honestly any Dalek / Doctor Who parodies on this show are pretty excruciating :')

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 8th April 2019, 04:23 PM

Justice for The Deep Space Deviants! The only act ever to get 4 buzzers in the live shows.

I was quite enjoying it tongue.gif

Posted by: JosephAvery 8th April 2019, 04:26 PM

Stuff like that makes me embarrassed to be a Doctor Who fan :')

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 8th April 2019, 05:19 PM

I might do a BGT winners' rate at the end of this series.

Speaking of, what happened to Tokio Myers? I thought he'd do at least one pop crossover before he faded away. tongue.gif

(you should do an X Factor one as well if/when the Champions series airs!)

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 11th April 2019, 12:08 PM

Series 8 finalist Jon Clegg has said that Jimmy had been doing his vent act for '42 years' - which is fair enough. But Nina is the one who has shown it is successful.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th April 2019, 11:27 AM

Susan Boyle will be performing 'I Dreamed a Dream' on tomorrow's show to celebrate 10 years since her audition:

With her debuting a new single for the live shows, Cowell's really going for her comeback.

Posted by: Mack. 12th April 2019, 11:41 AM

Other acts have had all four buzzed in the semi-finals which have beeen:

Antonio Poyeye (Series 5)
Kony Puppets (Series 8)
Marty Putz (Series 11)

And still Jessica Hobson hasn't had the justice that she deserves.

How on earth did Popeye get into the semi's - no wonder Simon hates that year!

Though sadly he did die last year at just 54 years old. sad.gif

Posted by: Mack. 12th April 2019, 03:26 PM

Yes, I do wonder how he did, what else could he do? That was sad to hear about him passing away last year.

A few previews for tonight's show which is at 8pm, following Stephen Mulhern's In for a Penny:

Posted by: Jack 13th April 2019, 04:11 PM

People still watch this trash??

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 13th April 2019, 04:24 PM

Episode 1 of the auditions last week was the most watched TV show so far this year, and that's excluding on demand viewings!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 13th April 2019, 07:37 PM

SuBo still sounds amazing!

Posted by: Cqmerqn 13th April 2019, 07:47 PM

Omg I’m shook at the Ant/Dec connection thing act. How on earth?!!!

Posted by: Cqmerqn 13th April 2019, 08:23 PM

Omg Sheila is my new icon

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 13th April 2019, 08:36 PM

Really hope Sheila makes it to the semis, absolutely died at her performance laugh.gif

I didn't think that comedian was as good as some of the ones last year, but he seemed like a nice guy.

I'm glad it wasn't just me! I know I was tired after a busy day, but I didn't even manage a slight chuckle.

Posted by: Cqmerqn 14th April 2019, 11:26 AM

Omg I found him hilarious!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 14th April 2019, 04:51 PM

Also the second year in a row someone Alesha knows has got a Golden Buzzer!

Posted by: Jade 14th April 2019, 06:23 PM

The quality this week was a huge let down. I do enjoy a joke act but it was way too focused on those this week and I didn't care much for the 'good' ones either.

I agree that we've seen much better comedians, the guy last night was alright I guess but not quite golden buzzer worthy. I was expecting Alesha to press it so Simon was a little less predictable at least. I think Lost Voice Guy and Daliso are my absolute favourites over the years in terms of comedy!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 14th April 2019, 08:18 PM

I feel like Simon pressed it because he knew Alesha wanted to, but it wouldn't really be fair for her to do it as she seemed to know him quite well outside the show.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 16th April 2019, 10:34 AM

An interesting advert for Skoda airing on the show this week - featuring Paloma Faith, The Sherlocks, Lady Leshurr, The Kingdom Choir and Alexis French.

I suppose it's got something to do with that all of those artists released covers of 'I've Gotta Be Me' the other week tongue.gif

Posted by: PaulM1983 16th April 2019, 12:27 PM

I was baffled by that masked magician act. That was really good!! How on earth was that even possible without Ant and Dec being in on it? The touching thing was good enough, but the scribble being identical and reading as 1989 upside down was crazy.

There's a theory going around that the magician is actually Elizabeth from last week - becuase at the end of her act she said 'the night isn't over'.

I don't believe that tongue.gif Would seem a bit unfair to the other contestants to give her two auditions to show off her talent.

I said exactly the same thing to my partner when we watched it at the weekend! Because didn't she press the golden buzzer for one of her friends in a previous series too?

The comedian was good, but I didn't think he was golden buzzer good.

Might well be, but that doesn't get me any closer to knowing how she did this stuff. I wasn't hugely impressed with her spooky trick - quickly swapping places with an old woman and then back again didn't really do it for me, but this thing with Ant and Dec was next level.

Yep, Alesha used her golden buzzer for Lifford Shillingford last year - but Alesha did clarify that they were not 'close friends', they'd only known each other mutually through their musical work.

Posted by: Spiceboy 17th April 2019, 08:48 PM

That comedian wasn't that funny I have to say. He was OK and deserved to go through, but a golden buzzer wtf?

I would totally have pressed the Golden Buzzer for the primary school the week before though. As a primary school teacher myself I was bawling my eyes out halfway through the performance, every teacher in the country must want to work for that man now! wub.gif

Posted by: Jester 20th April 2019, 08:42 PM

That entire episode was awful!

Posted by: Suedehead2 20th April 2019, 08:43 PM

There was nothing in tonight's episode that I particularly want to see again.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 20th April 2019, 08:50 PM

That golden buzzer boy is fairly famous in India apparently, even has a wiki page!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st April 2019, 11:39 AM

That was a pretty bad episode yesterday! I liked Barbara and the knife thrower - but everthing else was bad or boring. Some of the acts like the throat singer weren't even 'so bad they're good', they were 'so bad they're boring'.

That puppet bird act in the 'coming up' bit intruiged me!

Honestly BGMT is much funnier, Stephen is brilliant. tongue.gif

Posted by: Jade 21st April 2019, 02:43 PM

I really enjoyed the quality of the first episode but it has rapidly declined with these past couple of weeks! Hope next week will be better.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 21st April 2019, 04:06 PM

Reading these comments and I’m in agreement at last nights being poor.
Not just the worst of the series so far but genuinely one of the worst EVER.

Posted by: troublepink 23rd April 2019, 07:04 AM

How did nobody on the show recognise that Barbara is 'Holy Mary' from Phoenix Nights laugh.gif Or maybe they did and just didn't say, either way she's brilliant.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 23rd April 2019, 07:17 AM

Simon did say he recognised her - but she said she 'hadn't done a talent show before'

Posted by: troublepink 23rd April 2019, 07:23 AM

Yeah I noticed that, and I guess if he was asking 'Barbara' then no she hasn't... thats her act... her real name is Janice Connolly and she's done her own tours etc around the country, Peter Kay noticed her at final of north west act of the year in Manchester. I remember her act on the Phoenix Nights live shows being very similar, I hope she does well in BGT biggrin.gif

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 25th April 2019, 03:29 PM

I wouldn't say last week's show was 'bad' per se but it wasn't amazing. Not really a fan of them giving Akshat the Golden Buzzer, I mean it's not even the first time we've had an act of that ilk on BGT and the fact he's yet another one doing the rounds on the Got Talents annoys me a bit.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 25th April 2019, 03:35 PM

Spoilers for an act getting to the semi's:

Sheila Simmonds has pretty much confirmed on her Insta she's in the semis based on what she's said! Not 100% sure though.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 26th April 2019, 07:50 PM

Previews from tomorrow's show:

Can't wait to see Derek Sandy! He's a bit of a local hero on the Isle of Wight and he performs at a lot of small local events, great to see him on TV!

I think that magician will be a potential winner!

Posted by: Spiceboy 29th April 2019, 12:45 AM

I have to say, while I am still enjoying the show, the 'talent' is really subpar this year. I've only really liked the Primary school and the magician who did the trick with the movies.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 29th April 2019, 09:17 PM

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 6th May 2019, 01:01 PM

So why was the woman who sang and did the aerial stuff buzzed off but those Dutch girls who's only 'talent' was to be able to appear behind some sheets sent through with flying stars? It would've been the other way round for me.

And that comic/magician was definitely the best of the night.

Posted by: PaulM1983 7th May 2019, 01:25 PM

Neither were good, but the aerialist/singer was absolutely awful. I cringed so hard I chipped a tooth.

As for the Dutch girls, they ruined that trick with stupid camera angles. We could see the boxes and cages extended well beyond the fake wall, but the audience wouldn't have been able to see that. It would have looked more impressive for them. It was still very basic though.

Posted by: Jester 11th May 2019, 07:41 PM

This programme is getting worse. All mediocre tonight so far! I miss this programme being good - argh what happened?!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 11th May 2019, 07:46 PM

I was just thinking the same thing. So many acts have a 'message' without the performance itself being any special.

I did enjoy that Chelsea Pensioner though.

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th May 2019, 08:22 PM

It picked up a bit at the end with the magician and the Stevie Wonder medley, but apart from that it was another mediocre episode.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 11th May 2019, 09:07 PM

Bloody hell none of the golden buzzers this year are anything special this year.

Loved that magician at the end.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 11th May 2019, 09:15 PM

Apparently that band at the end are with McFly's management - and have been writing with Tom Fletcher...

Posted by: PaulM1983 12th May 2019, 11:19 AM

I couldn't be less shocked at that. As soon as I heard they were already all theatre kids, I said to my other half they're definitely already known to people. They were invited to audition and Simon probably already knew them. His questions before they performed were not convincing at all. I didn't like them. It was noisy and messy and the singer's voice has no character to it. It's not appealing at all.

As for the magician, I liked him but that audience member was the worst actress. She spoiled that as her rehearsed shock and looking around was so cringe. I'm assuming twins that can get themselves into pretty small spaces (the base of the cage). But I still enjoyed it because he's got great stage presence and confidence about him.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th May 2019, 03:23 PM

Yeah his whole presentation was brilliant, and so was the egg trick.

I think if he steps it up for the semis he will he a strong contender.

Posted by: Mack. 12th May 2019, 03:29 PM

Very few good acts going through this year.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th May 2019, 10:27 PM

Tbh I haven't completely given up hope yet.

There were some decent acts who could step it up for the live shows, I remember there were a few of them last year.

Posted by: Liаm 13th May 2019, 12:55 AM

Ben Hart is STUNNING wub.gif

I haven't even watched this series properly but what I have seen catching up on the acts on YT really isn't great, there hasn't been a single act who I've really thought could or should go all the way that I've seen.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 13th May 2019, 08:47 PM

That boy band were really mediocre, I've seen better bands at my high school concerts.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 13th May 2019, 09:46 PM

Ah but were those bands in School of Rock the Musical and working with McFly's Tom Fletcher? tongue.gif

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 14th May 2019, 08:52 AM

Are you implying that having those two things actively makes your band worse? kink.gif

I really think/hope Taylor is gonna perform on one of the first two live shows 😍

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 18th May 2019, 10:43 AM

That would be amazing! What makes you think that though?

Last year we got Rita Ora, Tokio Myers and a load of musicals.

I imagine we'll definitely get Lost Voice Guy and Susan Boyle (with her new album out that week) and probably James Arthur.

She's on Graham Norton next Friday (so she'll v likely still be in England when the live shows start) and she seems to be doing every single promo spot possible atm 😂😍

Posted by: Wall 18th May 2019, 10:49 AM

I'm thinking

Taylor Swift
Lewis Capaldi
James Arthur
Last Years Winners
Little Mix
Musical

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 18th May 2019, 11:10 AM

Surely no chance we'll see Little Mix now Syco split with them?

Posted by: Cqmerqn 18th May 2019, 11:52 AM

Ellie is doing a lot of promo atm too

Posted by: Wall 18th May 2019, 12:40 PM

she needs to

but even simon shaded her on x factor

Posted by: Common Sense 18th May 2019, 02:51 PM

There's a church choir on tonight so you just know they'll get put through. Up against Eurovision but I'll watch BGT then go over to BBC1.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 18th May 2019, 07:19 PM

To be fair, the choir was decent. One of the better one's they've had!

Posted by: dobbo 19th May 2019, 02:11 PM

I wouldn't say this series has lacked talent per sé, it's more of "seen it all before" kinda attitude. If all that happened in series 2 or 3 people would be going crazy.

Another small bugbear is that it just doesn't feel as special when someone knocks it out the park anymore as the show has evolved & expanded so much since its inception. You'll never get another magic moment like Paul Potts/Susan Boyle again, ordinary people with hidden talents as almost all the acts now have been professionally coached/trained or appeared in other similar talent contests previously so nothing surprises people anymore. It was a better watch when it the show was still in its infancy in that sense. Having said that, it's almost always the international acts that do offer someone different on the series nowadays like with the sword balancing guys - this act is the only one that's genuinely made my proverbial jaw drop throughout the whole series thus far.

Posted by: Serhat Mack 19th May 2019, 03:54 PM

It was OK albeit underwhelming watching last night's episode on ITV2.

QUOTE(WhoOdyssey @ May 11 2019, 10:07 PM) *
Bloody hell none of the golden buzzers this year are anything special this year.

That has almost always been the case ever since that feature was introduced. The one only this year who was any good was the Maltese singer, the comedian & the dancer were dreadful, the boyband were boring & the school choir wasn't anything special.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 19th May 2019, 06:14 PM

Just realised I put 'this year' twice in that, apologies for the poor grammar tongue.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 24th May 2019, 09:09 AM

BTS have been confirmed to perform on one of the semis!

I'm not a massive fan (though Boy With Luv is quite good, so hopefully they perform that), but it's good that they're getting someone different this year.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 24th May 2019, 02:49 PM

Quite the coincidence but I've been reading the Now 100 Artists book and there's a bit on what happened the month each NOW was released and it mentions Jimmy Tamley (ventriloquist from this series) winning the show New Faces of '87, beating Joe Pasquale ohmy.gif (random I know but thought I'd mention it!)

Christ what an exciting lineup again x BTS should be fun tho *.*

I knew Taylor wasn't gonna be on it as she's now in France but I was hoping they'd get at least some people I stanned 😂

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 27th May 2019, 09:02 AM

Not seen this week's BGT yet and won't be able to catch up until my exams are over on Sat (and BGT is over sad.gif ) but wanted to say that I've seen John Archer perform at my church twice! He's very good, but as with most of the acts on here, also quite well known.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 09:48 AM

Just found out John Archer was one of the magicians on the 2010(ish) CBBC show Help My Supply Teacher is Magic - loved that show! Thought I'd recognised him, he's very good.

Oh BTS are a really good guest! Not so enthused about the rest except Diversity though kink.gif

Starting with ‘On Your Feet!’ musical tonight apparently.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 01:08 PM

Another good year for comedy/comedy-entertainers this year. I don't think there's an obvious winner yet, I think one of the more 'alright' acts from the auditions will step their game up like a few did last year.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 03:56 PM

Tonight I think going through will definitely be Flakefleet Primary School.

Not sure about the second one, is definitely very open. I'll go with The Haunting, though Tony Rudd is my dark horse. I think he'll be incredible or absolutely shit tongue.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 06:38 PM

Opening with Akshat, not much different from his audition.

Posted by: dandy* 27th May 2019, 06:44 PM

Surprised they're having two golden buzzer acts in the same night.

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 06:50 PM

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 06:53 PM

Tony was brilliant! He's got to go through biggrin.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 07:01 PM

Lost Without You, what an original choice! nocheer.gif

Posted by: Jade 27th May 2019, 07:13 PM

Did Amanda just drop an f-bomb?! lmao laugh.gif

Posted by: Mack. 27th May 2019, 07:14 PM

Yes, that was a.clear F-bomb.

Posted by: Mack. 27th May 2019, 07:17 PM

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 07:18 PM

She was brilliant! The trick was pretty simple I thought but the production and Amanda's reaction made up for that!

Posted by: Jade 27th May 2019, 07:19 PM

Yeah I agree, the presentation of the trick made it far more gripping than these acts usually are! My favourite so far tonight.

Posted by: Mack. 27th May 2019, 07:22 PM

And then the children's choir follows that's pretty f***ed up.

Posted by: Rooney 27th May 2019, 07:23 PM

Totally here for Amanda dropping the F-bomb laugh.gif Thought she was just acting and it was all staged until she dropped that clanger!

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 07:23 PM

Maybe I'm just dead inside but HOW are these kids favourite to win?! Like bless them they're adorable having fun but it's not a talent to have a bit of fun on stage

Posted by: dandy* 27th May 2019, 07:23 PM

That was sort of okay - but it was sooooo long winded and the magic element was incredibly basic.

Posted by: Jαsє 27th May 2019, 07:24 PM

They're favourite? omg WHAT laugh.gif The finalists must be atrocious this year then.. mellow.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 07:27 PM

Thought it was a bit samey as their audition. Still pretty good though, reminds me of the film Nativity.

Posted by: Rooney 27th May 2019, 07:29 PM

I've not caught up with the show, but I can usually spot the winner a mile off. Suspect these kids will win the audition but not the whole show. I certainly can't see them winning. Top 3 deffo.

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 07:31 PM

I'd be so annoyed if I was like a singer or magician who had honed their craft to get beaten by a school play slash Sainsbury's Christmas advert laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 07:34 PM

Talk about baiting with a 'message'

Posted by: Jade 27th May 2019, 07:36 PM

Yeah this act just leaves me cold? The dancing is basic and the message just feels shoehorned. This was better than their audition though which felt really random

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 07:37 PM

I really liked that, not usually a huge fan of that kind of dance act but they were pretty good! That might just be me wanting ANYTHING that isn't kids pratting about or a guy with a bowl on his head saying he's Buzz Lightyear tho

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 07:38 PM

Excuse me Tony was brilliant!

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 07:40 PM

I would die for this dog

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 07:40 PM

"Over his career Finn has caught 100s of criminals. How many do you think?"

"52"

Posted by: dandy* 27th May 2019, 07:41 PM

I enjoyed the dance act way more than the audition from them, the choreography worked a lot better.

I don't care for this dog magician act at all - didn't like it in the semi finals much either.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 07:45 PM

Still not a fan of them, never a fan of videos in magic.

Posted by: dandy* 27th May 2019, 07:45 PM

Is it me or were the letters at the end simply NOT the ones the judges chose?

And the video section was clearly just edited - the clock time could easily be altered, same with the names and numbers.

Posted by: Simon. 27th May 2019, 07:45 PM

The dog and the magic police man, I didn’t believe any of that, was ridiculous.

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 07:46 PM

That's just using the dog saving him and the puppies to manipulate votes, the act itself was pretty dull and has been done before but way way better.

The talent level was rock bottom tonight, bar the dancers I guess, and the magician was by far the best but even that was bolstered by the presentation and the trick itself was quite basic.

Posted by: Jade 27th May 2019, 07:48 PM

Rosie & Adam to save this semi-final please! Loved them last time

Posted by: LB1108 27th May 2019, 07:49 PM

Yeah pretty sure he just changed all the letters to spell out “future” - hardly magic that? unsure.gif

Oh wait there's another laugh.gif

Of course it was, but how did he do it!

I still can't believe Donchez came 3rd last year. Legend.

Posted by: Jade 27th May 2019, 07:56 PM

That didn't feel quite as flawless as their audition but they'll still be getting all of my votes, so compelling to watch!

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 07:59 PM

Give me something dangerous and edge of your seat than stupidity or emotional manipulation anyday laugh.gif That was very good!

Oh FFS!!! Honestly my least favourite act of the night. manson.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 27th May 2019, 09:00 PM

Nah sorry it should’ve been The Haunting and Flakefleet both through and not the dog act

Posted by: Suedehead2 27th May 2019, 09:06 PM

So the British public have voted for a police officer accompanied by a dog who doesn't do anything. What a farce.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 09:23 PM

Bit of a joke that, The Haunting should've definitely gone through - hopefully she'll be the wildcard.

Much better lineup on tomorrow's show!

Posted by: Mack. 27th May 2019, 09:25 PM

Yes it is a shame what happened to Finn the dog back in 2016. I'm glad he has recovered from it.

But all he did was have a tennis ball in his mouth.

Posted by: Mack. 27th May 2019, 09:27 PM

Flakefleet they released a Christmas song, didn't they?

The Haunting, yes people.may complain but that was something out of the ordinary.

Oh it's that school! Got to #64

Is that headteacher desperate for fame?

Posted by: Liаm 27th May 2019, 09:37 PM

The most offputting thing for me is that he is just using the dog really, it broke my heart that he got stabbed and honestly bless his heart for protecting his handler but it wasn't even a dog act. To bring out the puppies as well, it just felt like he knew the act was average at best and amped it up with cute puppies and a hero dog. But it's not Surprise Surprise, it's meant to be a TALENT show and it feels like for certain acts it's more about the circumstance or story. Granted, we always need a heartwarming story or a bit of fun, but when did that become more important than just simply being a great and talented act?

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 09:40 PM

Mabel performing on BGMT tonight

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2019, 09:47 PM

Tomorrow's acts:

The Queen
State of the Fart
Vardanyan Brothers
Siobhan Phillips
Giorgia Borg
Matt Stirling
Faith Tucker
4MG

Much better than today I think - I reckon going through will be Matt Stirling and 4MG (really depends on the performances). I don't think Giorgia was anything special, and that seemed to be the reaction online.

My dark horse is Siobhan Phillips tongue.gif But I can't wait for State of the Fart, I actually thought his audition was really good!

Posted by: Mack. 28th May 2019, 01:29 PM

'State of the Fart', a one-trick pony a la Antonio Popeye?

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 28th May 2019, 03:39 PM

Don't know, there really was only one thing Popeye could do. You can't change that up at all.

State of the Fart could do harder or faster songs.

Posted by: Common Sense 28th May 2019, 03:54 PM

Elizabeth's audition was far better than last night's Haunting offering.

Still think the boyband will win it.

Posted by: Liаm 28th May 2019, 08:05 PM

I was disappointed in Siobhan tonight, I agree with Simon that her VT song was better than the actual performance!

The final two acts tonight were light years ahead of anything from either this show or last night's.

I'm going for 5 votes to Matt!

I enjoyed Siobhan too. She is a Victoria Wood tribute act but I loved Victoria Wood’s style of comedy so I’m fine with it.

Really like the top 2 who went through, but I preferred Matt to Siobhan.

Posted by: Mack. 28th May 2019, 10:09 PM

Britain's Got More Talent never used to be so 'adult' oriented, I don't think.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 28th May 2019, 10:18 PM

What do you mean by that?

Posted by: Mack. 28th May 2019, 10:23 PM

I meant with the swearing and that game which looked as people were doing it under the covers.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 28th May 2019, 10:25 PM

To be fair, Britain's Got More Talent (the game you're on about) has been doing that sort of hilarious stuff for years laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th May 2019, 08:20 AM

Tonight's lineup:

Angels Inc - Magic Group
Rob King - Singer
KNE - Dance Troupe
John Archer - Comedic Magician
Chapter 13 - Boyband
Colin Thackery - Chelsea Pensioner Singer
Gomonov Knife Show - Danger Act
Kojo Anim - Comedian

Tough one tonight to call. I think it's really open, especially with the comedians as they could sink or swim. No-one particularly outstanding tonight, John Archer is my dark horse.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th May 2019, 04:45 PM

James Arthur is also tonght's guest performing 'Falling Like the Stars'

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th May 2019, 06:56 PM

looking forward to John next.

Not a great start - don't think Angels Inc should've got through and the singer wasn't as good as his audition (still decent though)

looking forward to John next.

Am I the only one getting fed up with judges going on about "girl power" and the rest of it? If an act was doing something traditionally done by men, it would be worth mentioning. However, that was just a dance act that happened to be all women. After all, they didn't deem it necessary to mention that another dance act was all men.

Posted by: Liаm 29th May 2019, 07:38 PM

LOVE this series of Britain's Got Emotional Blackmail xx

I sound awful and heartless but I'm fed up of seemingly every act with half a chance having some kind of story or circumstance to bolster it rather than the show just being about talent :/

I hate to admit it, but I was thinking Memory was a dull choice of song long before Cowell said it. I like the singer and he's got a decent voice, but he could have highlighted that far more with a better choice of song.

Said to be safety issues. ITV are not convinced that the act will be safe on a live show given what they intend to do. They were asked to change or modify it a bit but chose to withdraw instead. The other acts weren't happy for them to be pre-recorded either.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 30th May 2019, 05:38 PM

I’d be shocked if Mark wasn’t in the top 3 tonight I think he’s got tonight’s show in the bag.

I’ve called all three winners this year so far but got the rest of the bottom 3 wrong each night.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 30th May 2019, 05:46 PM

I don't know about Mark. The singers so far this year haven't done too well other than the soldier yesterday - and he was a bit different.

They don't normally leave acts as young as that until the last two to be announced unless they have gone through. If they had cottoned on to that, they would have been even more convinced they were in the top three.

The Chelsea Pensioner guy is so going to win and it's going to be sickening. I was briefly considering putting a quick bet on him when he was surprisingly low down the odds before his semi-final but obviously the odds aren't worth it now.

Aside from that there have been way too many magic acts this year and most of them have been distinctly underwhelming (though I quite like 4MG and I also enjoyed the comedy ones which have both gone out now). Do the judges not get bored of being constantly in fake shock and awe at every one of them x

That's for the auditions, it's different for the live shows.

Oh I see. Thanks. smile.gif

Ben ... such a charming... talented guy.......

Ben to win ..... BGT 2019 !

Posted by: Common Sense 2nd June 2019, 05:20 PM

I'd like the young dancers to win but know they won't. They'd gone home and had to practice fort the semi in less time than most of the others. Come on Libby and Charlie. Both 11 and so light on their feet.

Posted by: Common Sense 2nd June 2019, 05:27 PM

I don't like some remarks on other forums and social media about Colin, saying that at 89 if he does win he may not make the Royal Variety. rolleyes.gif Awful. He's said to be very fit, strong and alert, just a bit deaf which is nothing and doesn't affect his singing.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 2nd June 2019, 06:24 PM

There's not a chance the dancers will win, they were alright tho

Rooting for Ben out of the realistic contenders I think!

Dave and Finn still using their story...

Happy they're out of the way first

Really enjoyed Ben!

Didn't he get to the final? Not sure that should be allowed tbh.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 2nd June 2019, 09:40 PM

Very happy for Ben coming in the top 3! I hope I'll be able to see a show of his in the future wink.gif

Posted by: Botchia 2nd June 2019, 09:48 PM

Ben or X deserved the win - what a shame! I guess a very mediocre winner pretty much sums up the very mediocre series.

I think that Primary School was one of the worst acts to ever make the live shows let alone the final. Utterly diabolical if that's really meant to be the best of British talent laugh.gif

I don't think it's a set rule, it just hasn't happened before.

(though I think it may have happened with someone in a dance crew once)

Managed to find this on DS Forums, apparently what Jimmy Tamley said

QUOTE
I WAS THROWN UNDER THE BUS BY BGT PRODUCERS..

That’s it in a nutshell, if you want more, read below what happened to me behind the scenes of a BGT show, but you’ll need a few minutes and a cuppa.

HERE’S MY STORY.
I honestly wasn’t expecting the fiasco that unfolded on Thursday night. Just want to tell events from my perspective...when I was invited to enter BGT series 13, I was under no illusion that curve balls potentially would be coming my way, having had previous experience of this with bgt.

My BGT series 13 journey started during the last couple of months of 2018. I was contacted by several researchers encouraging me to apply to audition for the series. I submitted several ideas involving a puppet and a couple of audience members. This was approved of, so I subsequently commissioned the puppet to be made. Two days before the audition in February 2019, curve ball number one came, where I was asked was there a possibility instead of using the puppet to prepare a routine with 2 masks. At midday on the day of the audition it was confirmed that I was going to be doing a mask routine and was going to be able to use David and Amanda, which as you know was a great success and got me 4 yeses and some great feedback and comments from the judges.

2 weeks later came the elimination day recording. All contestants, approximately 160 acts, who received 3 or 4 yeses are invited to come up to the palladium for the day and find out if they have been selected to go through to the semi finals. This means 35 acts are chosen plus there are the 5 golden buzzer acts who automatically have a semi final place.

After it had been confirmed that I had been put through to the semi finals, I was asked to start preparing and submitting ideas for my semi final performance. My first routine, including another puppet and a judge with a mask, was well received by the producers but had to be discussed in the states with the executive producers. This came back with a definite no - curve ball number 2. It was also made clear that they didn’t want me to be portrayed as a traditional ventriloquist and told me they didn’t want to see puppets, curved ball number 3, and I would need to be using masks for the semi final and potential final routine.

I was told that my options for wearing masks would be from the 6 main characters (4 judges and 2 presenters, who were all up for participation unlike previous years )and no masks would be used on audience members. So from this point onwards I knew I could not use any of my well established puppet routines, and no masks on audience members, only the 6 main characters in the show. Anything I did from this point onwards would need approval and scripts submitted.

I proposed an idea of Simon with mask on, just standing still and assuming the role of a ventriloquist and David as the dummy, but both with my masks on to make it really funny. They liked the idea and my script was approved.

After a meeting a few weeks later with BGT’s own brilliant comedy scriptwriter, he suggested making Simon the dummy and David the ventriloquist, and putting in a Cancan dance. I loved what we wrote together, although I thought at the time, I’d be surprised if it got approval, but he knew the producers and it was indeed approved.

From this point onwards to the semi final, all the producers and top executives knew and approved what I was going to do. They even SOURCED the Cancan music to use on the show.

On Thursday, the day of my show, I asked the producers if the judges would be attending the dress rehearsal and was told that they wouldn’t. I then asked if Simon Cowell knew he was going to be used in my participation act and have a mask put on his face, again they said no, he didn’t know, but he had told them, and the criteria they worked on, was that he, “liked surprises”. This threw me a bit, as he is the top executive producer, and surely would have asked the question, ‘Who is Jimmy going to be using today?’ I, maybe naively, had assumed he’d been consulted on this. By now, the day was in full swing, and I was caught up in the pressure all the acts have, of going on live television in front of a highly cranked up audience. I concentrated on my lines which were NOT ROAD TESTED, and contrived to be used once and once only. I had to trust my immediate producers, in that he’d go along with it.

You could see on TV that Simon was coerced up onstage by David and was reluctant to sit on the stool and have a mask put on his face.

Looking at it now, I wonder what the producers were thinking. Was I, in effect being THROWN UNDER THE BUS? He clearly wasn’t willing to go along with any of this, and in his after comments he indicated that the producers would indeed be murdered...( his words ).

In the media since then (and there has been a lot of it ),the bgt line was that he’d said he couldn’t do the dance because of a old skiing injury. Surely if this was the case, the producers would have known by series 13 that he was unable to dance in any way and I would have been informed weeks prior to this and scripts would have been amended at the time of presenting them.

Immediately after my performance, I was completely gobsmacked and traumatised by what had just happened to me on LIVE television. My 5 children and my partner Rachel were in the audience, and had just seen what had happened to me. I really felt for them, as I just wanted to do a good spot and for them to feel proud of me. At this point I was absolutely gutted, my 4 minutes on TV were ruined. Yes my professionalism kicked in and I finished the spot, but I’d rather have completed it as planned by them and me, and been voted off. I wasn’t under any illusion that I was anywhere near the top on the list of performers that night, and was prepared for anything...except what happened.

In the next 30 minutes after my performance, I was livid at the producers, and told them in no uncertain terms I wanted to leave, and would not go on for the results bit, despite people voting for me. They were very sympathetic saying, Simon was an idiot and that I’d come good from all this. They even brought along their psychologist to check I was ok. In the end I asked Rachel and my 5 kids what to do, and that I was ready to go home. They all agreed I should smile and go on which I did. I knew I’d be voted off but I went through the vote off part of the show. In retrospect I wish I hadn’t.

The next 24 hours were very busy and crazy on social media, newspapers, This Morning on ITV and twitter etc etc. All having various opinions for me.

In conclusion to this piece ( if your still awake dear reader 🤪 ), I could never in my wildest dreams in the previous weeks leading up to this, have foreseen what happened to me. I’m by nature a positive guy and see the good in people, rather than being cynical at the world. Although it may look like I’m bitter in the above piece, I’m just putting it straight from my view to get it off my chest and get on with my life outside the bgt bubble.

This is water off a ducks back to Britain’s Got Talent producers, as it’s generated a lot of publicity like they’ve had before and will continue this way, if they treat performers, who are not used to television and media, this way.

I’m of the opinion now, that any other panel of experts on TV shows now have vast experience in the field they are judging, be it singing , dancing and cooking etc.
But this show has someone at the helm, who can’t simply raise a foot off the ground let alone a smile, and is ready to give an opinion on any performer who’s put in thousands of hours in pursuit of their chosen craft.

The people I met on the show and worked with, particularly the researchers, VT crew etc, were wonderful people and very helpful and creative, I have nothing but praise for them and loved working with them all.

I have broad shoulders, so I can take any comments you may have. But I’m not looking for lots of that at all. I just hope to feel better after offloading my experience here.

To all my fellow ventriloquists out there I have nothing but admiration for you all, even though there are not many of us. I’d pay good money to watch any of you. I have in the past and I will in future. I love being a part of our weird community. Looking forward to Steve Hewlett’s book out later this year or next ‘ ‘VentriloQuest’..

Please feel free to share.

Thank you for reading this .. ❤️ Jimmy..

People saying Colin's the worst winner ever. He's looking forward to seeing The Queen but someone should maybe tell him that it probably won't even be her. She doesn't do them now. In 2016 it was Charles & Camilla, 2017 William & Harry and last year, Harry and Meghan.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd June 2019, 04:41 PM

Queen Elizabeth hasn't attended the Royal Variety Performance since 2012...

I think Jai McDowall is the worst winner they've had (or the most boring at least)

Posted by: dobbo 7th June 2019, 08:46 PM

As per the norm I'm still way behind & catching up (currently finished Semi 2). I've still somehow avoided the final result so far!

But I feel the need to this off my chest. All of the 4 finalists so far are really, really bad. Like how on earth that female Peter Kay can be deemed more talented than a fantastic opera singer & 2 guys who literally BALANCED ON TOP OF SWORDS IN THEIR MOUTHS! Drop me out, seriously.

All the magic acts suck really bad. It's so painfully obvious the judges are in on it. The only good one so far was the guy who made the egg appear, that was actually really cool.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 11th June 2019, 11:50 AM

Finally got round to finishing!

Colin was a decent winner, I feel like in any other year X would have taken it but all the story with Colin and wanting to sing for the Queen got people in. He'll be remembered more than Jai and Collabro at least.

I think the Judges definitely made the right call with the wildcard this year, whilst I would have loved to have seen John Archer in the final it was only right that Libby and Charlie got it as there wasn't any other dance in the final and all the other 3rd places were magicians. Plus the fact that they were only a backup act in the first place and had to get that routine together in two days.

4MG annoyed me throughout so glad they came last, they seemed to come unstuck with their final performance as well, nothing went 'wrong as per se but they just seemed to constantly be bursting into fits of laughter.

Posted by: dobbo 25th June 2019, 04:26 PM

Finally finished watching myself. Definitely screams of 2016 where sporting a military outfit lapped up the votes, pretty sure he wouldn't have won if he'd sang that in a suit & tie. Still, he was at least one of the better acts in an otherwise underwhelming final. My fave was actually the stunt guy despite the fact you couldn't even see him for most of the act! Really gripped me much like the guy who submerged his head in a water box a few years ago. Ben & X (that was a cool twist even if I couldn't remember who it was at first) were both good as well but there was nothing particularly special nor standout about the rest.

And I agree with an earlier comment on here I wonder why Lost Voice Guy didn't get to perform this year as every single series the incumbent champion always gets a slot. The guest slots this year were absolutely ATROCIOUS, why do they get so many musical acts perform? Diversity were the only ones I even moderately enjoyed.
