Yeah Young Thug really shouldn't have been included and Dua should have had another verse.

Just posted this in the Dance Forum but i'll repeat here:
QUOTE I really like this, it's definitely a groove! It's laidback and chilled, definitely some French house influence and the intro is cool. I'm listening with the sun beaming in and it sounds good, I really like Dua's part, 'sprinkle with a little bit of sex, and it’s a potion' sounds like an earworm. Can live without Young Thug but it doesn't derail the song overall.
I don't mind the lo-fi sound to it either, it does give it more of a retro feel. |

I posted in the dance thread one too. It's ok. Generally songs grow though so maybe this one will be too. 'Cold Heart' did after all. Having said that I'm not sure I can ever see myself loving it oops. Dua sounds good though and I like the music to it so there's something I guess.

Potion at this early stage is ok but also feels a little underwhelming.

I'm actually liking it more than I thought I would...I don't know maybe because the reaction here was really negative and when I played it I was like hmmmm this isn't THAT bad lol.
Anyways I played it second time and it's cute!!! |

Dua's part sounds totally phoned in, and the whole thing doesn't sound that well put together. I think it could've been more if all concerned had put a bit more effort in to it (and binned off that unfortunate other feature of course)

Dua looks STUNNING in the music video
Pitchfork, shock horror, gave this a somewhat positive review: QUOTE Functionally and musically, “Potion” is no different from any other Vol. 1 song, another sunny and well-engineered confection to crowd playlists and soundtrack trips to the mall food court. Formulaic or not, it’s hard to argue when the results feel this good. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/calvin-harris-potion/ |

A few Potion remixes will be served to increase its chart presence.
By its sound it feels open to various remixes. |

The video elevates the song and Dua's hook has been growing on me.
And the song sounded nice in the car this afternoon |

I'm loving it now and maybe because it's so different from any other songs in the chart right now.
Very decent debut across all platforms in all honesty and depending on tomorrow's update this could debut officially Top 20 in UK!!! (low key I want Top 10 so Dua can continue her Top 10 hits for each year since 2016). |

Dua’s hook has been in my head since the first listen in all honesty. It’s quite rare I’m against the tide of general opinion on BJ but I really do like this a lot!
