I actually really like this. Hope it does something chart wise!

It's not my favourite from him... Would probably rank as his weakest lead single if it is in fact the first song of the new era - but i'm thinking it's just a dedication to his daughter and won't appear anywhere else?

I don't mind it but I don't want another 808 from Kanye, I want him to keep progressing as an artist and this seems like a big step back from what he has been doing the last 5 years.

Hope it's not the first single (or even on the album for that matter).

So so in love with this!

Yeah I'm thinking it's not the lead single but I wouldn't actually mind if it was as it's so damn beautiful.

Yes Cremey. Not liking the lukewarm response on here. It's stunning. It reminds me of 'Pills And Potions' in that it's quite a subtle change of pace for him.

Song is streaming at http://www.kanyewest.com/ (probably the only link for it that won't get taken down after like an hour).

Really loving this on first listen wub.gif What a good way to kick off 2015. Have read elsewhere that it's basically like a happy '808s & Heartbreaks', I wouldn't mind an entire album of that TBH.

I have just listened again and it is very sweet. Moving me quite a bit as i get into it. I still don't really see it as lead single material, more of a last track to close the album (that's no bad thing at all, his final tracks are generally wonderful).

It is quite '808s...' which is one of my favourite albums from him and i wouldn't actually mind him channeling that style again in some way for the next album, though obviously still progressing his sound. Regardless, bring on another YeezyYear <3

This is now #3 on UK iTunes, unbelievable to see Kanye doing this well again wub.gif And ahead of Taylor Swift Lol. (Looking the VMA incident up it is now more than 5 years old, why does time travel so fast mellow.gif)

This article wonderfully explains the meaning behind the song: http://www.mtv.com/news/2038537/kanye-west-only-one-story-nori-donda/

QUOTE
“In early 2014, Paul McCartney and Kanye West first began working together in a small bungalow in Los Angeles. The process that would result in ‘Only One’ began with a simple brainstorming session between the two: With McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff.”

“When they played back the recording afterward, something remarkable happened. Kanye sat there with his family, holding his daughter North on his lap, and listened to his vocals, singing, “Hello, my only one . . . ” And in that moment, not only could he not recall having sung those words, but he realized that perhaps the words had never really come from him. The process of artistic creation is one that does not involve thinking, but often channeling. And he understood in that moment that his late mother, Dr. Donda West, who was also his mentor, confidante, and best friend, had spoken through him that day.

‘My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter,’ he said, astonished.”

“To some, Kanye’s insight didn’t immediately register. But then he explained: The name Kanye, which his mother had chosen, means ‘only one.’ And then it dawned on everyone there: Something powerful and undeniable had occurred through the power of music and of letting go. A message had been passed down through generations.”

I hate Kanye as a person but props to him for this, completely different from anything he did on yeezus and his musical mind is genius.

Video has premiered and is streaming on http://www.kanyewest.com - unfortunately it cuts out the best part of the song (the 'hear me out' verse) and bits of the audio have him singing it without autotune over the recorded version which sounds a bit odd (and not really very PLEASANT, he is not a particularly good singer oop). A very ~lovely~ video though.
