YOUTH playlisted!!!!
Posted by: #psychic7 Jan 13 2016, 05:29 PM
Danny L Harle ! One of the more surprising C List additions recently (along with that DMAs track), I was hoping it'd get a spot somewhere but I was never certain it would

dreadful playlist.
Posted by: Mango Jan 13 2016, 05:31 PM
Strange not to see Zara Larsson added but more and more with new releases they seem to be adding them weeks after release date, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it added in a couple of weeks. I really did think Little Mix would be on this week though, especially given how well it's doing.
The Justin Bieber situation is beyond ridiculous now, a SIXTH week on the C-list for 'Love Yourself' while 'Sorry' is still A-listed
And a 12th week on the playlist for 'Hello', matching 'Love Me Like You Do's run from last year. Can she hang on for another two weeks to equal Gotye's record? It actually wouldn't surprise me!

dreadful playlist.
I second this. Some very questionable choices.
The whole Hello and Sorry still A list, while they get rid of songs that are still taking off, is becoming incredibly annoying. 12 weeks on the A list for Hello is a bit excessive...especially as it's starting to fall away now.
Love Yourself was number 1 for how many weeks? It looks like they're going to wait until it falls before upping it on the playlist...If they do, it's already spent 6 weeks on the C list.
Great to see Troye Sivan's amazing 'Youth' playlisted as well as seeing some support for Lion Babe. But other than that, Radio 1, it's time to get rid of a lot of songs. 'Adventure of a Lifetime' can go now, too.
I can't see them snubbing them, but I find it a bit odd that Little Mix haven't been added still, but they added Jason Derulo's other song that's doing nowhere near as well. I guess its unknown impact date must be a little way off.

Surely that makes it its 13th week on the playlist as it was added on 26th October, so the week starting 18th October will be it's 13th week!!!

12 weeks I have.... Either way, 12 weeks on the A list must be a record?

It depends how you look at it. The playlist was frozen for a week over Christmas, so I don't count that week. Maybe a more accurate way of saying it would be that it's the 12th playlist it's been on

Yeah, Gotye was A-listed for 11 weeks. I can't definitively say if it's a record though, cos I only started tracking the playlist from the start of 2012.

Yay for Troye Sivan!
I thought that Avicii one had been and gone quite a while ago?
I guess I can officially give up hope for Rachel Platten being added, was hoping to see Zara but I doubt they snub her. Also hoping to see Taylor's 'Out Of The Woods' soon.
I knew Little Mix wouldn't be playlisted if they're focusing the impact date on around mid February. Maybe next week, if not the week after.

Broken Flowers being on there makes the playlist okay this week. I would have never thought to look for that coming up at this point, but it's so fantastic that I'm glad Radio 1 are playing it even if it took them far too long to add.
A few questionable drops considering Hello, History, Adventure Of A Lifetime and Sorry are still there. The focus should be helping upcoming hits guys. You get the BBC mandate, at least use it properly.
Learning that a Jason Derulo song with a worse title than Wiggle exists is making my stomach turn.

True. But surely you effectively count that missing week because it's not as though R1 stops playing songs for a week and the radiomonitor still counts right, so to me it's still an extra week on the playlist no?

"Renegades" a-list

I like all songs this week although i am most happy for Troye and Dj Fresh

True, but they don't really play much from the playlist Christmas week, what with all the Christmas songs and big weekend live tracks and whatnot, so it's like they might as well not have a proper playlist that week.
Also just noticed that this is Major Lazer's 8th straight week on the B-list (or 9th depending on how you look at it lol), that's certainly a record since I've been tracking the playlist!

Bryson Tiller added to the INMWT list!
Good to see DJ Fresh added too and Craig David up to the A List.

More support for Troye and the wonderful "Youth"
Posted by: Jonjo Jan 13 2016, 06:27 PM
Amazing for Troye and Bryson! Also great to see Snakehips & Raleigh still getting great support from them Really pleased about Snakehips and good to see them keep it on as it's taking off.
No Little Mix is a bit bizarre though. But I'm sure there's still time for that.

So ironic how they constantly play a "Radio 1 the home of new music" advert throughout the day yet they want to keep Adele on the A List.
Posted by: Juan Carlos Jan 13 2016, 07:34 PM
"Youth"!
Also, great to see that "Where Do We Go" have been playlisted too. Poor "Magnets" though~

Them keeping one or two songs in rotation for more than a couple of months doesn't completely nullify the fact their playlist is infinitely fresher and more supportive of new artists and music than pretty much every single other mainstream radio station...
(unrelated: wow at 'Broken Flowers' being added! Didn't even know that was being properly pushed (especially now, given how old it is))

I've heard 'Broken Flowers' for the first time this evening and I can't get enough of it. Really hope that can be a big hit!

A re-recording of the song was released toward the end of last year and a video has just been released. I'm guessing this is all because he's now signed to Sony.

In fairness to the Hello & Sorry tracks they are two of the biggest hits of recent times with Hello selling huge amounts in its opening weeks for a non novelty of XF related hit.
I do think once a song is established in the top 10 radio 1 should remove it as their job is done (apart from songs that are OAOS and enter in the top 10)

I wonder if the impact date is sometime near valentine's day perhaps? In the early 00s there often seemed to be some big love song smashing around that time and taking off in a slightly bigger way than could reasonably be expected (Whole Again and Hero come to mind).

* Danny L Harle - Broken Flowers
omg
But yass at WTBD A Listed finally, coming for that top 10 smash please.

Not forgetting Cry Me A River of course.

If the song was on the playlist both before and after the freeze then you can count freeze week as part of its run. Had Radio 1 had a normal schedule, they wouldn't have removed 'Hello' only to re-add it a week later. Any song getting an extra week by luck over Christmas would be long gone by now.

The existence of Radio 1 is not justified solely by their promotion of new music. They're a radio station that needs to attracts listeners - they're not going to stop playing music that people want to hear just as people are realising that they want to hear it because that doesn't make people tune in. Not to mention that if Radio 1 are really hoping to promote new music then they should be consistently promoting it so that the artists can gain some level of persistent success, rather than creating an endless line of "sort of indie" one-hit wonders.

This comment made me listen to it too, and I'm the same now, can't get it out of my head. What a tune!

Craig David Capital Xtra DJ being supported on A-List, great to see - massive congratulations to him for making this comeback! Bet people thought he'd never get R1 support again..

Do radio 1 DJs do records of the week again?
Heard Telomere by Mystery Jets twice on Greg James' show this week!
