Doctor Blind Chart: 1st January 2017

2017 kicks off with a brand new number one with a beat that is as disorientating and shapeshifting as its video, which was directed and created by Dave Bullivant and stars Gemma Arterton. “Kerala” is first taste of Simon Green’s (aka Bonobo) forthcoming sixth LP Migration, due 13th January, which is themed around the ideas of identity and the cultural change that is promoted by migration - and it this week charges 3-1 to displace The xx after a trio of weeks at the top. It features - as mentioned in the topic description - a fairly prominent sample of Brandy’s little-known (in the UK at least where it charted at a lowly #174) 1995 single “Baby” which provide the only vocals in the otherwise instrumental track.

Four new songs break into the Top 10 led by Laura Marling and “Soothing” which leaps 12-5, and followed in close succession by Dutch Uncles who climb 18-7 with “Big Balloon”, MUNA who shift 16-8 with the uplifting “I Know A Place” and this weeks biggest climber from Run The Jewels entitled “Legend Has It” which launches 27-9 ahead of third LP RTJ3 which is released physically on 13th January. All of this means there are some unfortunate early exits from the Top 10.

Eight songs debut, led by Cassius, Cat Power & Pharrell Williams whose “Go Up” is straight in at 36. Full chart below...

Nice chart! More to my taste than some of the more pop ones tend to be...I guess I have a mix of tastes tho.

On Hold, a deserving #1 and was on my chart too. I liked Kerala when I came across it - didn't twig the sample though - might revisit it now...

Just added Austra to my 2017 list. Nice to see Joe Goddard, Roosevelt, Sinkane and Hannah Diamond too.

Also if you like Road Blaster - you might also like M83's Walkway Blues, my standout from the album last year.

I'll be checking out MUNA, Dutch Uncles, Whyte Horses, Flaming Lips and Cassius/Cat Power from this list. Thanks for sharing!

Slightly late but here's a reply *.*

Dutch Uncles yahoo.gif really like Big Balloon and hoping the album's as good as O Shudder!

'Kerala' sounds very nice on first listen, I was quite big on his song 'Cirrus' a few years ago, should probably check out that new album

The xx, Elbow, Joe Goddard and Maggie Rogers are among the other highlights <3
