Provisional slogan for graphics companies to work with is "Hear Our Voices" although if they come up with a concept with a different slogan then they are free to submit that instead.

I like that slogan actually!

I'm glad the slogan isn't just a fancy way of saying "Gather", they've felt really repetitive recently. Really easy to find political meaning in it if you want to, though.

A final decision as to whether Kyiv are going to host will be made on December 8th, it seems things are falling apart behind the scenes so this public news release is somewhat of an ultimatum I guess.

I presume the back-ups are either Germany or Sweden, it'd be weird to not have a winning country be the host ohmy.gif

My impression form some reporting is that the severity of the situation is being somewhat overstated but even so that's quite worrisome I suppose. I'd presume the backup would be Berlin if Ukraine get stripped of it?

Ruslana would INVADE RUSSIA and thus start World War III if the Eurovision got taken off Ukraine

If it's stripped from Ukraine I'll look into going to ESC 17

Hmmm...don't think I'd be able to afford it having just booked Melodifestivalen, but I'd be surprised if it was stripped from Ukraine anyway ohmy.gif Maybe it's scaremongering tactics to encourage them to get their act together.

I think it's unlikely the contest will be moved, the exact same thing happened in 2005.

QUOTE
The political turmoil caused by the Orange Revolution meant that the preparations for the 2005 contest were seriously hindered. When the EBU’s then Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Svante Stockselius, visited Kyiv for a routine meeting in February 2005 he found that the preparations were seriously behind schedule. At this stage a Eurovision Song Contest held in Ukraine was looking less likely.

Stockselius warned the production team at NTU that he would have no option other than to move the event to another country unless significant progress was made. Stockselius was then taken to a meeting with President Viktor Yushchenko, where each member of the government was given specific responsibilities for the organisation of the Eurovision Song Contest.

NTU was given a tight deadline of two weeks to fulfil a list of demands. When the EBU returned to Kyiv they found that all the conditions had been met. Despite this, NTU and Ukraine still faced a significant challenge in preparing the city for such a large-scale international event to take place in a matter of weeks, against the backdrop of simmering media discourses of chaos. In an interview with the BBC, the presenter of the 2005 contest, Pavlo Shylko, admitted that the organisation of the event was proving to be a challenge:

"We understand what we have to do, otherwise the prestige of the country which is starting to be built in Europe might go down…That’s why we’re working every day, 24 hours a day. Before the Olympic Games in Athens people said that nothing was ready. When I went there everything was ready and everything went well."

Despite the delays to the organisation of the contest, the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest was a success for NTU. At that time, in May 2005, the Eurovision Song Contest was the largest international event ever staged in Ukraine. When Ukraine last hosted the contest, there was no formal city bid process, which was first introduced in 2011, and NTU had little option other than to choose Kyiv to host the 2005 competition. These days things are different; Ukraine’s infrastructure is vastly improved compared to just over ten years ago, undoubtedly Euro 2012 largely contributed to that.

Imagine Theresa May having a meeting with Jon Ola Sand about the organization of Eurovision laugh.gif!

It would be a massive shame if the country which won the right to host was stripped of it (rather than them just declining).

I agree with Rich that it is most likely just scaremongering tactics. And I agree with Jack that it'd be a shame if Kyiv had it taken off them after coming so far - things have definitely been trying to happen what with slogan competitions etc.

NTU were made to put a 15 million euro cheque in the EBU bank as a guarantee back in summer (first time they've done this, mainly to avoid a repeat of the Kyiv 2005 chaos) - if they host it themselves then that money is theirs to use but if it did get stripped off them then they lose those 15 million euros and it goes to the country who take charge of hosting an "emergency Eurovision". I really doubt NTU would be stupid enough to lose themselves 15 million euros...

The worst thing about that image is the placing of the slogan and the generic logo, this other official image looks much better:

It's nice for the artwork to be something that is traditional to Ukraine, probably the first time since Light Your Fire in Azerbaijan in terms of being a theme that couldn't have come from any country. Suppose Vienna had a slight link with the bridges.
