QUOTE ’Time is beginning to run wild.' On a planet that shouldn’t exist, in the aftermath of apocalypse, the Doctor, Dan, Yaz and Vinder face a battle to survive. It seems as though we’re getting more to Vinder’s backstory as well as some focus on Yaz. Also, we’ll likely get to explore what the Flux actually is or, at least it’s affect on time? It feels like there’s a lot of unknowns about this episode so could we be getting some big surprises |

My head hurts it was a great episode though and I just about kept on top of it all. More questions being asked still - I can't wait to see how it all ties together!

I really didn’t like this episode. It was all over the place. I really don’t get the whole other doctor story and how she fits into the whole timeline.
Next weeks episode is looking good so hopefully it’ll bring the series back on track. |

am I just dumb or is this the most convoluted doctor who plot yet? I quite liked the first two episodes but this one made very little sense.

None of the plots make sense. Last episode had 6 million soldiers take a SPECIES-WIDE BREAK AT THE SAME TIME, ignoring any and all common sense or anything from military history, with them not having even ONE sentinel? Mmkay. You also have enough machines to service the entire army at once?! Mkaaay. Never heard of duty rotas, war-species Sontarans?

tbh it does slightly annoy me when the show gets criticised for being too confusing when everyone seemingly happily follows along with shows like Line of Duty which reference minor events that happened 10 years ago that become a big part of the plot. I know this is more of a family show but it makes it difficult to try something new and it can then get criticised for playing it safe with ‘filler’ episodes.
To me, once you were aware of what was going on (as in it didn’t immediately say what was happening) it was relatively straightforward. To save Yaz & Vinder, the Doctor and Dan stood on the podium which I guess lessened the impact. Whilst the Doctor was trying to get them out, she worked with the guardians (look I forget names x) to place them in their own timelines to help disguise them. For the Doctor and Vinder, this meant we could explore their backstories. For Yaz and Dan, there’s were seemingly events they hadn’t yet experienced (with the addition of the Liverpool tunnels). Due to fluxy stuff, they each appeared in each other’s visions taking the role of the people who were actually there. Then you had Vinder’s girlfriend trying to reach Vinder. I was absolutely THRILLED to see Fugitive Doctor again and so hyped we got to see the Doctor on a Division mission. I had suspected there might have been a reveal of who Yaz and Vinder actually were but maybe that’s to come (or they’re just randomers). Just so glad Fugitive Doctor hasn’t been abandoned and it gives me hope she’ll be back properly! My main criticism is that it maybe fell into the trap of a flashback episode so, whilst it was amazing to see Division era Doctor and her encounter with the Ravagers and also to get that expansion of Vinder’s character, it didn’t really progress the actual story as it just explained what had happened to get the characters to where they are now. Loved the use of the Weeping Angels again, a fun touch with the video game and I loved the final scene. Really thrilling to see them actually succeed in what they tried to do all the way back in Blink. So so hyped for next week, it should be amazing. |

I suspect people will be turning off in droves with this convoluted episode. Very little character & plot development, bar the Vinder/girlfriend reveal, the Doctor's still an arse to Yaz, while trying to save everyone by hiding them in snatches off their lives - let's ignore the "future" lives and the whole "so they do actually have a future then?". The Cybermen/Daleks/Angels sectors sounds very like the end of the Troughton Era The War Games, albeit war zones with historical sectors. They've obv gone for the serial season with ongoing multiple plotlines that carry over, but I'm not sure how successful this is - it comes over as messy rather than a soap-excited-to-see-what-happens-to-them-next-week. Timey-wimey multiplied by other timey-wimey stuff...

Hmmm this was a weird one. I do admire the experimental approach, but my main problem was it was another case of just throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks and raising loads of questions but little substance. As mentioned, it didn't actually progress the plot at all, just gave a series of flashbacks which weren't that interesting apart from revealing a bit more about Vinder's past and girlfriend and yeah, turns out he's just not that interesting a character anyway! Too many monsters as well, having Cybermen and Daleks making brief cameos just feels like baiting fans.
I do think it's possible to be confusing and complex and still be gripping, DARK did it amazingly (highly recommended to all here x) as it had that central point that tied the threads together. I suppose what will ultimately be at the centre of this is yet to be seen, but I can't help but think that Chibnall doesn't quite have that same edge and won't resolve this in a way that feels organic given we're halfway through and it still feels a bit of a mess. That said, I'm still intrigued for it, especially how it's all linked to the Doctor in some way, and it was wonderful to see the Weeping Angels having an instrumental role again, next week looks like Blink and The Family of Blood two parter from Season 3 have combined which can only be incredible *. |
