Mini challenge: Slap Out Of It
Main challenge: Makeover paired with an eliminated queen
Guest judges: Lena Waithe and Wanda Sykes
omg ready for queen wanda
what the... WHERE THE HELL WERE THESE READS TWO WEEKS AGO?
WTF, stop with your Silky obsession Ru. At least we have our Miss Congeniality right here.
Honestly after Untucked, Nina is a sure-fire Miss Congeniality. Her words weren’t petty and yeah she had a point, each queen left has had some credit to their name but if you have to identify the weakest Queen when it comes to track record or overall growth in the competition, then that’s just how it is.
Ru's obsession with Silky is just so ugh... first he basically throws Soju under the bus by implying that she's not very talented, which might not be wrong but usually when Ru comments on these pairings it tends to be down to personality dynamics rather than perceived talent. Obviously, Ru wasn't pleased that his little pet was paired with someone that wouldn't elevate Silky's talent.
Then Ru gives Silky SPECIFIC instructions about what not to do - does Ru often, if ever do that? And Silky manages to f*** it up anyway.
Ugghhnnnhghghh I can't
If I was miffed at last week's result, I'm absolutely raging this week.
Fashion is subjective. If Nina's cycling shorts were by Moschino the judges would eat them up. Hell, if they were on a skinny queen, they'd praise her body. At least her outfit was well made.
Shuga as a comedy queen was joyful and fairly well-realised.
In my opinion, Yvie should've been in the bottom. But they knew she'd send Silky home.
The biggest talent left this week and it was so calculated.
I cannot stand whenever the mini challenge winner chooses things it has to go into "omg she's setting me up!1!", like.... someone had to have Soju Silky would have struggled no matter who she had, because she just is not taking anything on board! The amount of times she's been told things, Ru even told her in the workroom, and STILL she just cannot be arsed and carries on doing things the way she wants to because it's easier.
Honestly Vanjie should have EASILY won that! I love Brooke, her and Akeria were great, but as with Brooke's Ball looks I don't think she did enough to wow me and net that win necessarily. That was such a step up for Vanjie and I was really impressed, her and Ariel practically looked like twins let alone just family! Nina should not have been bottom though, low yes I won't deny but I loved the statement of the LGBT flag and the trans flag as being in the same family, the make-up for Shuga was not the tea but I think it was great that they came out and put a message across, took a bit of a risk, and had fun. There was no fun and no edge to say Akeria or Brooke, and I get that they *technically* fit the makeover challenge more but that's why I'm not always a huge fan of the makeover challenge, those who fit the challenge often are kind of boring and predictable. But either way, I was super impressed by Vanjie and it's sad she couldn't nab that win finally.
It's tough as Silky was the only really bad one this week, but I'd have put Yvie in the bottom 2 - that's twice in a row now she's been very lucky to escape the bottom! The look wasn't terrible, it definitely had her stamp on it, but it was certainly a misstep to put Scarlet in the unfinished/early version of the same outfit, because it did make Scarlett look like an afterthought and that's always a no-no in the makeover. Even with Silky, whilst I hated the outfits, it didn't look like Soju just handed some leftovers. I kind of get Yvie's reasoning behind using that look, it wasn't right for a makeover challenge where you should be paying as much attention to your partner as yourself, and make them look like you and be on your level.
That lipsync was easily the worst of the season, I feel robbed of a proper Nina lipsync :/ It couldn't have been a less sutiable song for her, but I know that the song that week can't always be perfect for everyone who lands there, it's just the way things go Silky has that loud and sassy personality though so TLC should have been her bag and she basically did nothing, yet again having talked SO much game she couldn't deliver any of it. It just feels like Ru already decided Silky is to be in the final so anything can pass, even sloppy messy mistakes that queens should have stopped making weeks ago. I agree as well Ru probably knew Yvie would destroy Silky in a lipsync so just let Nina go instead.
the lipsync was DIRE! i know nina tried but still lmao.
I actually didnt get the critques for nina' looks why does it have to be fashion-y for this challenge why cant it be fun??
The second Nina mentioned the trans flag Ru knew her fate was sealed
But yeah I agree, for me I’m not going to remember Vanjie, Nina or even Brooke’s looks for this challenge In a few weeks but I’ll remember Yvie and Nina’s. At least they tried something different
This whole episode was a mess, it somehow made me like almost every queen less apart from Yvie
Vanjie should EASILY have won this.
Shame about Nina. She wasn't great in the lip sync but Silky was worse.
How did Vanjie not win?
What are these choices?
Did they keep Yvie from the bottom because they knew they would have to eliminate Silky?
It’s a reality competition, I get it, but this season has become so over produced and ridiculous.
My least favourite episode so far. I feel that Yvie should've been in the bottom over Nina. I also don't understand the critique of Nina's looks not being fashiony. Drag isn't just about fashion.
As soon as I saw the song, I knew Nina was going home. The song was not suited to her at all, although she tried her best. Silky was SO disappointing and messy in the lip sync and shouldn't have been saved over Nina.
Vanjie should've won the challenge over Brooke, by far. I guess they're setting up Brooke for the crown now though with a third win.
Bleh, I'm just so disappointed in this epsiode. Just give Brooke the crown and end the season now tbh. :/
What a god awful episode! Everyone came off badly bar Yvie. I'm sorry but I also find Akeria and Brook Lynn devastatingly boring, they are talented but I get nothing from them personality wise.
Vanjie came across a bit salty and nasty to Scarlet. In fact Scarlet and Ariel gave me more than most of the queen's left!!
I really hope Yvie somehow wins and brings it up a notch now.
It sort of bugged me how vanjie and akeria all chose yvie when her look wasn't even as bad as silky's was.
The more I’m going through the runway looks in my head, the more I’m leaning towards Liam’s argument on how the fallout order should have gone.
Interestingly the top three looks were ones that were “less is more”. I don’t Nina should have been bottom two but while the message was clear and lovely, I’m not sure if it fit the “drag family” challenge bc the makeup and hair used for Shuga didn’t seem to resemble Nina at all. From the neck down it was good, but it missed the mark from the neck up.
The only criticism I would give to Vanjie is that it looks like a replica of her workroom entrance look, but I’ll give her a pass on that bc the judges hadn’t seen it and it was on Ariel as opposed to it being on Vanjie. Brooke gave a story, and A’keria’s was also a great resemblance. I do agree that Scarlet just felt like a prototype and Yvie was like “yeah, after seeing it in person I may need to tweak a few things”.
Silky has made the least progress out of the remaining queens. She went out and the one thing I was looking at was her padding... and it looked uneven again. That shows that she’s not really taking the criticism and learning from it.
But you know... anything to get those drama infused ratings (which will for sure drop after this).
Nina and Shuga's outfit were horrible. But Silky's lipsync was a complete MESS. Her wig reveal was a non-event, her hair fell on her face and her moves... girl.
Nina had a few interesting moves at least. She shouldn't have gone home. When Ru went MEH was definitely the highlight of the episode. Had I not spoiled myself I'd totally think she'd send both home.
What a terrible lipsync from Silky. She couldn't even handle her own HAIR. I mean what the f*** was all that?! Beyond pathetic. Talking big game but really doesn't have anything to back it up. She's just loud and obnoxious. Saying oh I made this doesn't excuse it from being GOD AWFUL. I think it just means you don't have a good taste... Also she's making herself look like a saint while doing the eye rolls on camera and saying disgusting things in the confessionals.
People coming for Yvie is so hard to watch. I really hope she slays the next challenge because otherwise it's Brooke's game now.
And yeahhhhh this has become such an instagram-influenced show. All they are looking for is edge and freshness. Anything other than that is considered pedestrian and borderline unacceptable. Yes, they want to elevate queens but not everyone is a fashion girl so getting eliminated + being read for that every single week seems like a stretch.
This episode was awful which is a shame given we only have one more to go. No one likes a bad taste at the end of the meal.
That may have been the worst lipsync performance ever without being asked to sashay away.
The bottom two was right this week - there is no way you can defend Nina's choice of makeup on Shuga, when the challenge is clearly a makeover challenge and the goal is to have a strong family resemblance. Yvie and Scarlet clearly had that, Nina and Shuga did not. I'm gutted to see Nina go though, especially during one of the poorest lipsyncs of the season
I think on balance, Brooke Lynn is a worthy winner this week - yes, Vanjie had the best makeup/family resemblance but we've seen her and A'Keria's looks before - in fact, I'm sure A'Keria has worn that exact same gown before
In terms of drama this week, Silky's bullshitting on the runway towards Yvie was absolutely disgusting - how she can say that Yvie isn't a nice person, whilst dragging her at every single opportunity, was not on. I'm glad that Yvie managed to hold it together though. Also, A'Keria stirring the pot in the werkroom with what Scarlet said about Silky and Vanjie, then sitting back and not contributing to the discussion was BS - I would be happy to see her or any of the dreamgirls go next week
Where did that Honey Davenport come from?
I've rewatched the lipsync and I'm mad all over again ffs
Like Nina was not great, and I wouldn't have blamed Ru at all if she just said they can both sashay away and brought back another queen or whatever, but it really just does feel like Silky got to stay because Ru has already decided she's gonna be a finalist. She legit just walked back and forth, and clearly didn't know the words so kept doing things that made sure she didn't have to just face them and lipsync the words. If Nina or Scarlett or Shuga had done that, Ru would have stopped the lipsync and made them start again Valentina style, I don't know how Silky got away with it AND stayed... Nina was awkward but at least she kind of tried, even if she ended up looking like an anaemic drunk aunt at a wedding It's made me dislike Silky even more, like you know what if she had slayed that lipsync I'd give her the credit but to talk so much game and do.... that to a TLC song we've waited so long to see a lipsync of... Girl.
I think this is the biggest waste of a great lipsync song ever, at least nearly on the level of Dax/Laila's I Will Survive
The drama would have been incredible too if we got an Yvie vs Silky lipsync to culminate their rivalry and Yvie absolutely demolished Silky, that would have been an iconic elimination and set up the reunion etc. too for some beef.
Also did anyone else find the way RuPaul just said "meh" make it come across like he low key just doesn't give a shit about the show at all. I've noticed he really hasn't been in it or cared as much as previous series.
I was in a deep youtube loop last night where I was watching a video that explains how drag race has become too relient on shock value and eliminating a fan favourite in episode 11 is a classic tactic for them now (see Dela, Katya, Cracker and now Nina) and they also tend to go on to win Miss C anyway... it's actually ridiculous smh
it also explains how the winner tends to be someone with a "growth" storyline and they'll even force that on queens who have been pretty much the same since day one (see Violet and Sasha for example) so I really could see them doing that with Silky.
The backlash would be FAR too much if it were Silky, they wouldn't risk it I don't think. I'm pretty sure it'll be Brook Lynn, at a push maybe Yvie.
Yvie has arguably got worse as the series has gone on but she deserves to be in the final for her uniqueness and what she's trying to do etc, Brook is my fave but we haven't seen much of her personality which won't go in her favour but her game has been way up there since day one and she only ever maintains it so I hope she does win over silky. Akeria is just kinda there isn't she??
they obviously didn't predict the Silky backlash otherwise they wouldn't be hammering her down our throats but then the finale hasn't been filmed yet right? so hopefully they use that to rectify their mistakes with her having seen the fan response
The finale was filmed the other week so we should see some tea come in about it soon! I honestly think if it wasn't for the fan reaction online last year, Eureka would've won as well! I'm almost certain Silky won't come close, at best she'll finish 2nd to create a tenseness to those who dislike her.
Rihanna followed Nina West on IG! Taste! I've been reading about how Nina has raised over 2.5 million for LGBTQ+ Charities. She's such an angel.
A queen supporting another queen. She will surely win Miss Congeniality? I can't think of anyone else deserving tbh!
omg the only other queen that I wouldn't mind taking it over Nina is Shuga but it really should be ninas, I actually got so teary watching her on untucked this week :')
Didn't The Vixen win last year if it was fan voted? :') I really think it's better off being left to the queens, they know them much better than we do!
nina is honestly one of the most endearing queens ever. she bucks this trend of the need for the gay community (especially queens) to base their personalities and decisions on drama and vulgarity. she seems genuine in her messages, truly believes them and really does put herself into everything. i also really really like her aesthetic? i know she got harped on for odd proportions and stylistic choices, but they also were head-to-toe mostly and made sense, they were just oddball. i think she's going to do so well and i'm so glad people took to her and her warm spirit.
True, I could see Akeria, Brook & Vanjie even voting for Silky too. Yikes.
To be honest, at this point I'm more excited for the reunion than the next episode / finale. I think it may be a little tame though, everyone has already aired their issues with Silky .... only thing I can think of is Raja drama? I think she is over it though.
If anyone but Nina wins Miss Congeniality it's an absolute joke, I'd take Shuga if this was any other season but there's never been a quite who's anywhere near to summing up being congenial as well as Nina. Plastique winning just because she's pretty would be ridic. I agree it's much better left to the queens anyway, they're the ones who went through the whole experience with each other and the fact that say Valentina won just because she was prettiest and had the fanbase just undermined the fact it was supposed to be about being congenial. I think they could easily have a fan fave kind of award and then also have Miss Congeniality voted by the queens if they wanted to have a fan voted metric, I just don't think it should be Miss Congeniality.
As for a winner, I can't see past Brooke, I'd have Yvie in the mix if she hadn't lost her mojo since Snatch Game, even if she slays next week it's going to feel like she's well behind Brooke in terms of what she's brought to the season as much as I adore her. Silky they just would not risk, I think they filmed it thinking she was going to be the star of the season but fan reaction will surely have dissuaded them, it wouldn't be worth the furore it would inevitably and rightfully cause. I'd feel odd if any of the others bar Brooke won to be honest, as much as she may not be the most exciting personality, she has pretty much slayed everything put in front of her (save for Good God Get A Grip Girl and Snatch Game). The looks that won her the Ball and makeover might not have been the most edgy or exciting, but equally she's pushed herself and surprised in challenges like the cop improv and magic performance. It's odd to think we could have a winner who gave one of the absolute worst Snatch Game performances ever though when it used to be (and kinda still is) the challenge that can make or break and set contenders apart
Silky is disgusting. I've never seen a queen who would be sooooo salty both in the work room and confessionals for no reason whatsoever. I'm having a VERY hard time believing producers thought she'd be liked by fans. I'm sure they watched at least SOME footage in real time after each elimination. There's no way a sane person would think she would be loved by anyone watching the show. Obnoxious immature hypocritical with a fistful of delusion of grandeur.
One of the better post-Drag Race singles to come out!
