Couldn't find a topic on the second album, but several on her singles (that were eventually scrapped etc..). If there is a thread, please feel free to merge!

She's set to release her 2nd studio album (finally!) at some point this year, I guess, what with X Factor and all that. All three singles so far have been nothing short of brilliance. She debuted the track she wrote with ultimate "friend-zoned" popstar, Ed Sheeran. It's called 'Us' and below is a low quality, live rip of it.

Beautiful <3

Not too sure on the official tracklisting as of yet, but the songs likely to be on the album are -

• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1fGOG3XXIQ
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwL9vOBxeXY (feat. Chris Brown)
• 'Us'

• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_1uZ-oVcJ8

Not too sure if GALC is going to be on this album after it was scrapped as the follow up single to 'I Will Never Let You Down'... but we'll see.

I dunno if IWNLYD will make the album?

Posted by: Vülker 28th August 2015, 09:55 AM

I don't think Calvin will allow her to include IWNLYD in the album in any form or shape.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 28th August 2015, 11:17 PM

That was my thinking.

Posted by: Josh. 28th August 2015, 11:28 PM

Really wish we were getting Get a Little Closer, it sounded SO good from the live performances sad.gif

Posted by: JosephBieber 28th August 2015, 11:38 PM

Will Calvin have any control over I Will Never Let You Down? It's been released, unlike the other tracks from the original album. I hope it's on there anyway, it's her best song!

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 29th August 2015, 12:20 AM

I think so? He managed to stop her performing it on the Kids Choice Awards? I think because he wrote and produced it he owns it? I'm guessing??

Posted by: *Tim 29th August 2015, 06:46 AM

Yeah he stopped her from promoting it in the US, so I imagine he can stop her from.putting it on her album as well

Posted by: Atonement 29th August 2015, 08:22 AM

Too bad that happened with Calvin as IWNLYD was by far her best song to date and 'Get a Little Closer' sounded very interesting as well. 'Poison' and 'Body on Me' don't do anything for me.

Posted by: N💎lly. S 29th August 2015, 02:38 PM

Rita recently performed a track called 'Religion' with Wiz Khalifa. Maybe that will make the album! cheer.gif

It's a shame that we may not get to hear the studio version of 'Get a Little Closer', I was expecting it to be an absolute gem nocheer.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 29th August 2015, 03:12 PM

I agree, I doubt Calvin will give permission for I Will Never Let You Down to be put on the album which is a shame.

Posted by: Jonjo 29th August 2015, 04:57 PM

Surely the company will try everything they can to keep IWNLYD? A #1 would be a great help in towards selling the album!

Exactly. It's also the best song she's released, so it would be shame if it were kept off the album.

Can Calvin Harris just stop acting like a petulant child, and learn to separate business from one's personal life?

Posted by: vicious ritabot 30th August 2015, 09:13 PM

Rita performed IWNLYD at the Summertime Ball this year so it's not that she's not allowed to sing it or anything but it won't be on the album because Rita's said several times that Poison was the first single

What Calvin did to Rita with regard to this album was blackmail and awful on his part, she would have had so much success off the back of IWNLYD last year if it wasn't for him

It's not based on rumours or statements. Calvin publicly dumped Rita on Twitter and broke her heart and then took her album away from her. Even though Rita denied Poison being about him it is obvious Poison is about Calvin

He is full of it and thinks everyone owes him for his blessed talent to the industry. Did you miss his Twitter meltdown with Zayn the other week and his interview for The Guardian or the fact he is dating Taylor Swift? His life motto is clearly "get money bitch"

He didn't dump her publicly though, that's just using stirring tabloid headlines. The tweet read: 'To address speculation - myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago.' Until anyone finds out the real reason behind the split, I don't think anyone should be saying Calvin's actions were right or wrong.

Also, I don't think he did have a Twitter meltdown, he made some very valid points and came across very well? It was more Zayn who had a meltdown. I can't comment on the Guardian interview as I've not read it and as for the Taylor Swift relationship, it may be for money but it also may be for love?

Perhaps it does! (although I do know that others believe 'fame' is the inspiration behind the song and video) We just don't know the real reasons behind the split so I don't think anyone should be calling either party names over it.

Looks like things could FINALLY be happening.

QUOTE
Rita has been recording new music with Charli XCX, Stargate, Diana Gordon, BloodPop, Rodney Jerkins and others.

During a recent interview with Standard, she confirmed that her album, after all the delays and scrapped projects, will be finished in October. She said:

I’m desperate to get my music out. I think I’m now at a point in my life where I have a new amazing label, we really have taken it to the next level. It’s very song-based. It’s very real — real instruments, believable lyrics. I’ve not only grown as an individual but as a woman. People are going to see that. I’ve been in a whirlwind but I’ve honestly been living my dream. I was living in New York for three months filming America’s Next Top Model, now I’m in London for two months recording every day with my dream team. Then I fly to LA in October to finish the album.

Working with Diana (Wynter) Gordon, Charli XCX and Bloodpop has me excited for this.
Still listen to 'I Will Never Let You Down' and 'Body on Me' all the time. 'Poison' grew a bit old but those two are still 🔥

Posted by: liamk97 22nd September 2016, 05:45 PM

I have a feeling her previous three singles will have been scrapped from this album, which would be a shame as 'I Will Never Let You Down' is perhaps my favourite from her and 'Body On Me' suited her very well and was a sound that be good to continue with.

Posted by: burbe 22nd September 2016, 05:54 PM

Finally some news! Good to see her back on track. It would be nice to at least have Body on Me as part of the album, but I wouldn't be surprised if they left all the previous singles off.

'bout time!

Posted by: Cameron 22nd September 2016, 06:01 PM

Posted by: Martyn 22nd September 2016, 08:48 PM

If all the previous singles are scrapped, especially as they were with her previous label, I can see it being about a year before this is out. They will need to rebuild her. People have probably forgotten that she's a singer and not some random blonde.

Posted by: Tombo 26th September 2016, 02:42 AM

I'm happy for this, I was wondering what she is up to.

Posted by: burbe 11th February 2017, 05:10 PM

First new music from her in over a year is a Target Deluxe Track on the Fifty Shades Soundtrack. RIP.

http://ritaora.com.br/ouca-kiss-me-nova-musica-de-rita-ora-para-a-trilha-de-cinquenta-tons-mais-escuros/

Called "Kiss Me". It's actually quite good though and a shame it wasn't included on the main soundtrack.

Posted by: Jack 11th February 2017, 05:19 PM

I've got a feeling she won't actually release again tbh.

Posted by: jark 12th February 2017, 12:13 AM

Single's coming March, album May, apparently. Ingest with several grains of salt.

I'm curious to a certain extent, but inside of me I think her relevance has faded. Wouldn't surprise me if she hooks up with [insert generic American rapper here] to maximise chances of a hit. Rita Ora ft Lil Yachty incoming.

Despite the long wait, I'm still hyped for new Rita.

Also it wasn't her fault, she's had Calvin-gate followed by label issues. I'm glad things seem to finally be working out for her to release another album though.

Except she tried this already with Body On Me and it didn't work.

Posted by: Jonjo 24th February 2017, 04:54 PM

Wasn't it the odd release strategy that killed 'Body On Me' over here? Wasn't it her first on air/on sale single and released mid-week? (I might have made some of that up though lmao)

09.5 'R.I.P.' (feat. Tinie Tempah)
09.0 'How We Do (Party)' > Not aged well, but WHAT A POP BANGER THIS WAS! <
08.0 'Shine Ya Light' > This is really under appreciated (shut up Aly) ;D Although I do appreciate that there were better "single" choices! <
07.5 'Radioactive' > Possibly her most overrated single on here tbh. Still good though. Just not as good as other people like to believe :') <
10.0 'I Will Never Let You Down'
09.0 'Poison'
11.0 'Body On Me' (feat. Chris Brown)

Features:
07.5 'Hot Right Now' (DJ Fresh feat. Rita Ora)
07.0 'Lay Down Your Weapons' (K Koke feat. Rita Ora)
09.5 'Black Widow' (Iggy Azalea feat. Rita Ora)
09.0 'Doing It' (Charli XCX feat. Rita Ora)
06.5 'New York Raining' (Charles Hamilton feat. Rita Ora)
08.0 'Coming Home' (Sigma feat. Rita Ora)

07 R.I.P.
08 How We Do (Party)
05 Shine Ya Light
08 Radioactive
10 I Will Never Let You Down
09 Poison
08 Body On Me

Her last three singles were definetly her strongest. I am interested to see what she does / how well she does, I just can't see it happening!

I think it was released on a Friday but it was her first OA/OS single and at a time where labels weren't exactly sure how to push those. Also I think to an extent it got overshadowed by the other song Chris Brown was featured on - 'Do It Again'.

This sounds great, I hope Marshmello's production doesn't go too poppy on it and stays in the realm of dance though.

She's going to be at Radio 1's big weekend. So I suspect newness is coming very soon.

Posted by: burbe 14th May 2017, 04:45 PM

So the original lead single was a song called "Girls" featuring Charli XCX & MO ohmy.gif A dancehall inspired banger!!!!! But the label wanted the Ed Sheeran song to be lead, so I'm guess that's why there was a delay.

Also some more about the album:

QUOTE
Work on the album, due out later this year, began eight months ago with Ora trawling streaming sites, noting the composers of current songs she loved and inviting them to work with her. Some she flew to Britain and put up at her own home, including the Americans Andrew Watt and Ali Tamposi, with whom she wrote Girls and Falling to Pieces, a song that features trumpet and military drums. The album certainly has scope, from a collaboration with the EDM DJ Marshmello to the grown-up, glamorous Velvet Rope: written by the Sam Smith cohorts Jimmy Napes and Sam Romans, it’s a retro ballad recorded with a full band.

I think this is going to be miles better than ORA! I have high hopes seeing this list of people who worked on it.

I've pinched this all from ATRL because the article is stuck behind the Sunday Times paywall mellow.gif

MY FEELINGS RN

i am HEARTBROKEN. she better not disappoint and the collab BETTER COME OUT!!! although tbf after a long break, i'm happy she's coming back w/ a solo

Posted by: mdh 14th May 2017, 05:01 PM

Gutting that a collab between three pop QUEENS was snubbed over an Ed Sheeran wrote track for lead puke.gif I'm sure it'll be a banger though, judging by what we know so far!

Seriously I feel like she'll be HUGE this era, it's all shaping up so well and some of the names she's got on board scream smash after smash from this album <3

Posted by: Cremey 14th May 2017, 06:06 PM

The Charli/MØ collab will probably be my song of the year, judging by everything we've heard about it.
I'm not really here for an Ed Sheeran co-write whatsoever but I'll reserve judgement until I've heard it. Bet I'll love it anyway 💁🏼‍♂️

She performed "Girls" with Charli XCX and RAYE and a new track called "Summer Love" at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend.

Posted by: lotita 28th May 2017, 05:30 PM

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: jark 28th May 2017, 07:59 PM

Her 1 Big Weekend set was incredible. As a performer she handed the likes of Katy and Zara their asses on a plate. Girl slayed.

Both new songs sound great but Summer Love is the huge hit surely. That perf of I Will Never has to be the best of her career. WOO RITA

Omg yeeeeesss at Rita's comeback, why did it take so long sad.gif I love her tbh, she is so nice in terms of personality and she always brings it musically too!! Her look was quite something too but she pulled it off *-* It gave me Whoopi Goldberg teas laugh.gif

I really enjoyed that set, my highlights being I Will Never Let You Down (still her best song!) and Coming Home was very nice too. Both new songs sounded good too, more so Summer Love which sounds like a hit single to my ears!! I'm still kind of gutted that we never got Get A Little Closer in studio form though, I know that I would have ADORED that wub.gif sad.gif

I heard Hot Right Now on the radio the other day and it still completely goes OFF, what a banger! Was a great way to end a great set.

Posted by: Jonjo 28th May 2017, 08:54 PM

'Girls' was my favourite of the two new songs, but I love both already. 'I Will Never Let You Down' NEVER fails to bring a smile to my face! wub.gif

Posted by: Kye 30th May 2017, 11:59 PM

I really enjoyed her R1 set.. I'm baffled by some of the song choices but she really has had some major bops.

It's strange to think that Rita, as a pop girl, hasn't even released a second album yet. Her debut being 5 years ago.. she's done extremely well to stay relevant all that time.
Imagine where you were 5 years ago and enjoying songs from Rita's first album to where you are now and enjoying songs from her second.. it's kinda crazy to me!

I Will Never Let You Down kept her afloat in 2014 and then her stint of singles in 2015 did similar so with The Voice and X-Factor so she has been busy between albums but still crazy laugh.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 30th June 2017, 10:28 AM

I think she's doing quite well considering she went away for two years and was on rather shaky foundations when she last released something.

Posted by: Davidson 7th August 2017, 07:16 PM

She said this morning that the album will be coming "early next year" huh.gif

I mean, at least the material sounds promising, but I really thought she would release this along with the release of a second single in a couple months time.

She really is ridiculous with the amount of time she leaves between releases. Thankfully it looks like the Avicii track is going to become a hit in the meantime (although I'm still not loving it unforch), otherwise any and all momentum for the second album will be lost and she may as well start the campaign again in January.

Posted by: Jonjo 1st September 2017, 12:14 AM

Yasss. Hopefully an XF perf!

Posted by: THEO. 18th September 2017, 11:32 AM

So in her interview with Clara following her Live Lounge performance, regarding the album, she stated that she's never been prouder of anything in her whole life - then said that as it's her birthday in November (!), something might happen then, before saying that she just loves putting out songs and at one point we will get the whole package.

Honestly this girl is a MESS. December 2018 it is?

QUOTE
By contrast, Rita’s second album – which is absolutely, definitely coming out, if not until March – is the result of sessions with relatively few collaborators.

The album will include the recent Ed Sheeran-penned single Your Song, Rita’s most successful track for some time, as well as pensive-but-banging new single Anywhere. There is also future single Girls, to be released with Charli XCX. Girls is about “having that empowerment of sticking together, etcetera” – that “etcetera” presumably covered in the chorus lyric: “Sometimes I just wanna kiss girls, girls girls, red wine, I just wanna kiss girls”. “The song,” Rita clarifies, “represents freedom of speech of being able to love whoever you love, no matter what colour, race, sex, size, and being able to celebrate each other as females.”

FFS capitalise on the hype and get a pre-order up for January release NOW

Posted by: THEO. 26th October 2017, 08:14 PM

Yeah that is ridiculous! If this turns into another 'So Good'/'Dua Lipa' situation where the lead-in single isn't as successful as the previous singles and the album peaks lower than it should've, I will be mad! Girl deserves 2 for 2 #1 albums 😏

Posted by: THEO. 31st October 2017, 12:41 PM

So the OCC have said that "Lonely Together" will appear on the album, alongside Rita's two singles from this year. She's also worked on songs with Stargate and Julia Michaels.

It’s quite funny that she got signed to her first label in 2008 to release her debut album, and a whole ten years later she’s still yet to follow that debut up

Posted by: Botchia 15th April 2018, 07:21 PM

It's ridiculous. What will it take for her label to release the album?! She's had 4 top 10s in a row and they still won't release it :s

Maybe said album doesn't even exist?

Posted by: TomboOnBroadway 25th April 2018, 03:45 AM

It's a mess that this hasn't been released yet, she had several hits last year, it would have been ideal to have had it after Anywhere was big as Lonely Together and Your Song would have still been fresh in people's minds

Posted by: Jordan Lee 11th May 2018, 06:51 PM

I am literally in need of this so so much!
6 year since her debut almost.
2018 surely has got to be the year / time it eventually comes!

Posted by: Joe. 12th June 2018, 08:40 AM

Apparently this is pushed to November?!

Posted by: pippa 12th June 2018, 03:39 PM

Why all the delays, at this rate, the album will be almost like a Greatest Hits by the time she releases it.

Posted by: Cremey 12th June 2018, 04:56 PM

November sounds about right to me?

Girls clearly isn’t going to be the big hit they were expecting (and I was hoping sad.gif ) it to be, and the gaps between singles are always forever. Especially if it’s going to be the single to launch the album from, they need to make sure it’s he right choice.

Just hope if it is released in November it doesn’t get too lost amongst the other q4 releases, which I can easily see happening.

Posted by: Theo. 12th June 2018, 05:04 PM

I'm just shocked at how wrong Atlantic/Warner have got this campaign. If they released it after "Anywhere" with the solo version of "Girls" included, they could have responded to some of the criticism over the lyrics and edited them before the collab was released.

"Your Song" is going to sound so out of place, if they even include it.

Posted by: Botchia 💡 12th June 2018, 08:40 PM

The album should have been put out in January as Anywhere was still riding high in the charts at that point but beginning to die

It would've been perfect timing really, like Syco got Camila's timing just right between Havana and the album.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 8th July 2018, 12:50 PM

No posts in the Rita forum since 16th June! cry.gif :') It seems Rita is only keeping her name out there at the moment due to the outfits she's wearing on holiday, which I suppose is a discussion point that most of us aren't interested in, lol.

I think it's fair to say that 'Girls' was borderline disastrous for her. I mean sure, it's managed 2 months in the UK Top 40 which some artists would kill for, but for someone of Rita's calibre, clearly far more than that was aimed for/expected. I'm convinced that her label was confident that this was a surefire #1 smash and that it would be the song to finally break her in the US. The fact that it's actually one of the worst performing of her career to date must have come as a shock. I really hope a new single is imminent that is really undeniably great, and that she can effectively sweep Girls under the carpet.

It's a pity to think that Rita achieved a string of huge hits last year and yet there's still no second album in sight. All the goodwill towards those hits (in terms of making a second album a viably successful prospect) is essentially wasted, because they're old news. It's now been a whole year since Your Song impacted in the UK Top 10, and over six months since Anywhere became massive. She'll essentially be starting from scratch yet again to try and launch an album era.

Anyway ,I'll keep everything crossed that she gets back on track with her next release. Surely her label can't let the rest of this year slip by without an album? sad.gif

Posted by: Asmodeus 8th July 2018, 11:25 PM

If and when she releases another album I'm gonna need a few weeks off work just to cope with the emotions.

Posted by: pippa 9th July 2018, 07:24 PM

Ideally, the album would have been released on the back of Anywhere and a different song (not Girls) as a follow up single.
Had it gone that way i am of the belief the album would have performed well for her.
It does feel that some of the momentum is now gone.
That said, she may have another strong song lined up, with hope, she has another Anywhere size hit to come.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 11th July 2018, 08:04 PM

If it is a Q4 release her sales should still be high but it may mean it won't be another #1 album for her.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 12th July 2018, 06:32 AM

The gag is ‘anywhere’ was released as an in between single as expectations for ‘girls’ were huge and its the bigger song

Posted by: Joe. 12th July 2018, 03:16 PM

Remember when she had had two massive hits and could have released the album off the back of that but released For You instead which did okay but then released Girls which was a but of a flop comparatively. MESS.

Two massive hits AND a massive feature!

She could have had a successful album in November. It blows my mind how poorly her team has managed this, especially when you think about what a messy position she was in before Your Song.

Posted by: Dexton 26th July 2018, 05:04 AM

She’ll probably release an album late this year made up of all new songs and just count everything else as non-album like IWNLYD, Poison etc.

Girls was an extreme misfire. I was really looking forward to the album after Anywhere, Lonely Together & Your Song - For You less so but Girls just kinda put that fire out instantly. Not only because of how controversial (to say the least) the song itself was but also the responses of everyone involved :’) Charli had the right idea to move on with the much better Bitches but tough luck for everyone else laugh.gif

Girls was a bad move after the awesome Anywhere and it has put a big dampener on the album.

Posted by: Jonjo 29th July 2018, 10:55 PM

Literally at that point now, where I'm thinking neither Your Song, Anywhere OR Girls are gonna be on the album...

FFS. How did she go from being one of the best marketed debut eras of this Decade, to being such a shambles?! Arghhhh sad.gif

I at this point feel we will get news that the second album has been scrapped and they are starting again.
The 2nd album, as it stands now, or wherever it is, looks likely never to see the light of day.
This era started so promising but now looks like a disaster.

Babes is too busy pursuing her modelling career - she's just signed with Kate Moss's agency.

Rita wot u doing

Posted by: Jay ☆ 9th August 2018, 04:06 AM

It's infuriating how things have turned out. That run of major hits in Your Song/Lonely Together/Anywhere (and to an extent For You)... there couldn't have been a more perfect time to release the second album, and it would have undoubtedly been to great success given how strong her streaming was for the singles.

This month marks 6 years since the release of her debut album, and at this point it feels like she's no closer to releasing her second album than she was when she released I Will Never Let You Down. She's had three different sets of material that could have formed her second album, and with how quiet things have gone recently, it makes me wonder if she'll be going back to the drawing board yet again?

Crazy to think, but Ariana Grande released her debut album a year after ORA, and she's days away from releasing her fourth album. With Rita's length of career, at this stage she probably should have completed a fourth album era and be looking to get to work on the fifth. Sigh.

She seems to have confirmed to Glamour Magazine that this is coming in November, the same month that her birthday falls. I really hope this is true as it just feels ridiculous that we've waited almost a full year since her biggest hit to get it.

OCC posted the article including quotes from ha interview: http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/rita-ora-confirms-when-her-second-album-is-finally-coming-out-i-ve-had-to-fight-so-hard-for-this__23703/

Not believing anything until I have the CD in my hand. And even then I wouldn't be surprised for her to recall all copies and postpone it once again.

Still coming this year seemingly!

It should’ve been released last year when Anywhere was smashing. It could’ve helped Anywhere go #1!

Does anyone else think that Anywhere is one of the best pop songs of all time?

Posted by: JosephAvery 15th September 2018, 03:38 PM

Anywhere has held up so well for me over the past ~year or so, it's a stormer of a pop song and seeing it become such a huge smash was so satisfying wub.gif For me she's not put a foot wrong this era (even if Girls was a commercial misfire, I still love it)

Oooh, no that wasn't showing up earlier! ohmy.gif This is actually starting to feel real. A 12" Vinyl preorder for only £12.99 too. ohmy.gif

It fits in with her wanting to release the album on her birthday as well (as close as possible at least)!

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ 16th September 2018, 10:29 PM

The fact that HMV removed the links seems that they put it earlier, so I guess they will work again once there's an official annoucement, which I assume it will be this week. An insider said that "Let You Love Me" is going to be released on Friday (they didn't mention if it's going to be as a standalone release or as an instant grat, but I guess it's going to be the latter) and "Summer Love" will be included in the album, plus her singles ("Your Song", "Anywhere" and "Girls") and "For You".

Oh my god! I'm glad she's reverted to using the artwork style from "Your Song" and "Anywhere" for this. Maybe they'll use the original "Girls" artwork for "Let You Love Me" laugh.gif Can't wait to hear that and the finished version of "Summer Love" too! 16 songs is a decent amount for such a long wait.

She's also announced a 2019 European tour, with presale codes for those who pre order the album cool2.gif

I have a feeling this is listed wrong and this is deluxe cd. It says Discs 1, which would be wrong and the price is way to cheap.

Do we think track 11 will be "Nowhere", then?

I'm not actually sure which rapper I'd like to see her collaborate with. I've seen some speculation about it being Eminem... we'll see!

Rita did an interview with Clash magazine and they gave details about some of the new songs:

QUOTE
The singles are a good indicator of the album’s sonic identity. In the way that ‘Anywhere’ was delicate, deceptively simple and kind of wistful, the five songs that Clash have heard are open, broader in musical and emotional scope than anything on ‘Ora’. ‘Let You Love Me’, which is to be a single, is a self-analytical missive about Rita’s emotional shortcomings, bare-faced vulnerability sandwiched between spooky synths and low-key production. On ‘Cashmere’, a dank and grimy sex jam, Rita takes notes from Fifty Shades… as she sings, “Cashmere / Last night we made such a mess / I knew when I left / I’d see you again” over a Weeknd-like ominous bass. Lyrically, too, the songs are executed with confidence; ‘Only Want You’, a love song backed by beats and acoustic guitars, is drenched in desperation, and features the brilliant lyric: “I don’t want another night of trying to find another you, another rock bottom / I don’t want to wear another mini-dress to impress a potential problem.”

Which song is that? I don't think it's on the album is it?

Sorry I forgot to respond to this! I'm not sure, the clips were of the same section of the song so it wasn't clear what the title is.

NME have posted this article defending Rita and her many obstacles that she's overcome in order to release 'Phoenix':

QUOTE
Pop Is Not A Dirty Word: I’m a Rita Ora apologist and I don’t care what you think

Reality TV host, screen siren and – in case you forgot – one of the most consistent British pop singers of 2018. So why do so many loathe her? This week's PINADW is dedicated to the divisive and, despite what you think, rather brilliant Rita Ora: a star who – according to Douglas Greenwood – has let tabloids set the stage for her own killer pop comeback.

I really don’t give a f*** about what people try and tell me: I reckon that the Pop Star Rita Ora™ is rather brilliant, and I have my reasons why.

Don’t worry, I’m not totally stupid: I do understand the criticisms. I get why pop culture critics roll their eyes at her every time they remember how she somehow segued from a promising pop career into a role in an erotic thriller designed to titillate someone’s mum. Or when she somehow slipped into Tyra Banks’ shoes for a bit hosting a show about modelling that, realistically, she wasn’t all that qualified for. ‘For f***’s sake!” the people cry, “Why can’t she just be a pop star?’

Don’t worry, if anybody’s been desperate for a follow-up to 2012’s ORA, it’s been this petty and impatient writer. But I can sympathise with our Rita, a former shoe shop worker who got signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation, only to be thrown about in label disputes about where her ridiculously delayed sophomore record – one I’m certain she’s recorded at least eight times – would be released next. Throughout it all though, regardless of how mad things behind the scenes were, she managed to latch on to pop cultural relevancy when the odds were stacked against her.

So here are four concise and incredibly convincing arguments as to why Rita Ora deserves your attention and why the new album will make us forget the last six years ever happened. That’s right: Trump; every Tory piping up in a place their voice isn’t needed; Jason Manford’s music career – all of the awful things that came to the fore while Rita was on a pop hiatus will be erased from history when Phoenix drops on November 23rd 2018. Get ready!

1. The singles all slap!

OK, so I know that we all still think making real music involves playing gee-tars and writing every word of your own tunes without any kind of assistance (neither of these, as far as I know, are things that Rita Ora can attest to), but that doesn’t mean the songs she’s releasing aren’t perfectly preened pop bangers that are far better than the cesspit of shite out there.

Even ‘Your Song’, a track written with pop’s demonic overlord Ed Sheeran was such a modest comeback single that feels so refreshing in an age of proudly confrontational, ‘f*** you’ pop penned for women. ‘Anywhere’, its follow up, had the best instrumental, vocal-loop breakdown of any chart song last year and caused her to bop about on a giant dance mat on The Jonathan Ross Show (what more could you want?!). Girls, the so-called ‘bisexual bop’ that catalysed a quite silly and old fashioned controversy around queer appropriation literally dragged Rita out of the closet. At the end of it all, we realised it was just a fizzy and facetious pop song that probably wasn’t as harmful as so many tried to make it out to be. And the latest, ‘Let You Love Me’? It sees Rita enlist the ultra-cool PC Music producer Easyfun to form a searing and emotional club hit that makes me want to swing my arms in reckless abandon and cry like my cat just died. If you don’t like it, I don’t like you.

2. Tabloids may try, but she’s unconquerable

“Rita Ora courts attention…”; “Viewers SLAM Rita Ora…”; “Rita Ora suffers a MAJOR make-up calamity”. If the Daily Mail isn’t berating Rita for being attention-seeking, they’re picking apart her outfits to either objectify or body shame her. Back when the rumours that she was the infamous ‘Becky with the Good Hair’ started circulating, she navigated the hearsay like a pro and shut down bullshit stat. The thing is, when your career isn’t necessarily following the path it’s meant to, you automatically become fair game for social media and tabloid scrutiny, and publications will try and frame you as a failure at every possible opportunity.

In a 2017 interview, she told The Guardian that she saw herself as a “360-degree artist”, and that she had the right to do whatever she liked. Despite the fact she wasn’t releasing music, she still reportedly bagged a cool £3 million in 2016 alone through endorsement deals and presenting jobs. They might not be her biggest passion, but still, that’s not bad for someone the tabloids are trying to talk shit about at every possible opportunity.

3. In the messy battle for the ‘pop princess’ tiara, she knows her place

Trust me, pop can get ugly extremely quickly when the stans of pop’s women are brought into the fold. The internet is constantly awash of people pitting everybody against each other: Cardi vs Nicki (we know that got messy), Katy vs Gaga, Britney vs Gaga, Old Gaga vs New Gaga… the list is endless. And while these conversations often conjure up hot takes more fruitful than the overbearing hoo-haa might suggest, sometimes it’s nice to exist outside of it.

Perhaps a more positive byproduct of the time Rita’s spent out of the musical spotlight is that the internet isn’t pitting her directly against anybody. She’s got plenty to prove to a lot of naysayers, but she’s no longer hindered by existing on that tier of hot debate. Instead, it seems like people are still trying to figure out if they’re in the pro- or anti-Rita camp. It might seem a little neggy at first – to have to prove your worth over half a decade into your pop career still – but her slow-trickle single technique is working. People are buying into Rita’s bangers at an unprecedented rate.

4. You can shit-talk all you like, but the charts don’t lie

You might struggle to find someone who will publicly back everybody’s favourite pop scapegoat, but the numbers don’t lie. With the exception of Girls (WILL SOMEBODY, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, LET CHARLI XCX HAVE ANOTHER f***ING HIT?!) which charted just outside the top 20, every single she’s dropped from this new era has earned a top 10 spot. Even that slightly naff Liam Payne one from Fifty Shades! Case closed.

It might have taken her a while, but Phoenix is finally upon us, and so I urge you all to stock up your nuclear bomb shelters with tins of Aldi tuna and 30p own-brand cola in preparation for the impending pop apocalypse. Let’s not forget that there were 12 years and 5 days between Kate Bush’s ‘The Red Shoes’ and her first effort of the 21st century, 2005’s ‘Aerial’. Long story short: LEGENDS NEED TIME. LET RITA ORA HAVE HERS.

"Velvet Rope" is out!

It's quite a shock to hear Rita singing a song in this style, it's obviously not single material but I do like the gospel feel to it.

Posted by: Botchia 15th November 2018, 09:18 PM

It's cute yet unexpected

"Cashmere" is coming tomorrow! Sounds good from the preview:

"Cashmere" slaps! It's mid tempo but not in a shocking 'this is Rita?!' way that "Velvet Rope" was. It's made me really excited for the rest of the album though and I can't believe we'll finally have it in less than four days! *_*

Posted by: Botchia 19th November 2018, 09:44 PM

oh this is lush! <3

This is shaping up to be a fab album and what she deserves (especially after how weak ORA was)!! I'm ready for her to pull through and deliver a Dua Lipa strength pop perfection album.

Loving ‘Fallling to Pieces’ as well, those trumpets at the end! *.*
I really wasn’t sure what to expect from the album after loving all the singles but everything so far has been amazing.
I wasn’t too keen on ‘Soul Survivor’ or ‘Summer Love’ live so I’m not sure about those two but apart from that, the album is looking to be great 😍

Only 2 more hours for me to get listen this album. Aus and NZ should be able to listen by now.

Edit 1: I heard the early feedback on the Rudimental collaboration was generic and 'certainly a choice' oops.

Edit 2: Apparently Chris Martin was doing back vocal on Keep Talking?

Posted by: Theo. 22nd November 2018, 02:51 PM

I was hoping my copy would arrive in the post today but alas not! I've waited 6 years for this, I don't mind waiting another 12 hours to listen to it.

"Falling to Pieces" is another really strong song, I love the trumpets. The intro also momentarily sounds like "Lush Life" though laugh.gif

Summer Love is such an album track it hurts

Posted by: liamk97 22nd November 2018, 10:00 PM

Just been reading through this thread. The amount of times the album has been pushed back and the amount of times it seems like Rita was over only for her to save it again, then rinse and repeat... Rita is like the luckiest popstar ever and it's incredible to think the album is actually in a position to be a success!

Also makes me laugh the amount of people who were pleading for Girls to be released.

Posted by: Cremey 22nd November 2018, 10:10 PM

Is Summer Love really the one they’re pushing? 😬
It’s so Rudimental by numbers and didn’t like it when she played it at Big Weekend or when I saw it live :’)

Ha Liam, I’ve just had a read back through too, what a journey haha, so glad it’s finally being released. And I still stand by the fact that ‘Girls’ is incredible and should’ve been a huge hit :’(

This! The problem was timing...as we both said at the time it should've been a Europe only single to bridge the gap between Anywhere and the next single!!

Posted by: Botchia 22nd November 2018, 11:13 PM

So Summer Love's studio version is so flat compared to the live version. What a disappointment!

It's a very solid pop album and far better than ORA! Cashmere is such a fave as is New Look and Hell of a Life. Keeping Talking is such an interesting collab!

In terms of future singles, Cashmere is sfg it NEEDS to be next *.*

Take That will probably beat her. She’ll be ahead on streams but I think she’s probably debuting top 5.

Sales wise however she may well sell more than what ORA opened with. I think she could easily top 40K.

Posted by: DexTheHalls 23rd November 2018, 12:56 AM

Really liking this album so far, more than Little Mix’s last week (I know they’re wildly different but two hyped up albums coming within two weeks of each other).

As in until For You impacted everywhere else or until Let You Love Me was released?

Wouldn’t work in any case. First scenario is too short of a window and second one... might as well just release it as a WW single.

Posted by: .MIKE. 23rd November 2018, 10:27 AM

Congratulations Rita! On finally being able to release album 2 and it being better than the first!
There’s a lot of stand outs! ‘Velvet Rope’, ‘only want you’ and all the singles bae ‘girls’

Posted by: Theo. 23rd November 2018, 10:38 AM

Really need Klaus's old "listening to Anti" meme right about now 😭

I'm so happy that this album is finally here! I'm only up to "Summer Love" but it's already FAR better than 'ORA'. Really really proud of Rita for sticking at it and I'm glad that it looks to be a $ucce$$ for her (apart from in the US, of course).

Tidal doesn't let me play "Lonely Together", is that a problem on other streaming sites because if so she could be losing loads of streams? 😬

Posted by: Wasabi. 23rd November 2018, 10:49 AM

The album is cute and if she had not released 5 and a half of the best songs already over the past year, and it was a normal release with one or two pre-release singles, a lot less people would be disappointed. Even though the deluxe is a bit of a waste of time, the standard edition is a really solid pop album.

Posted by: Cremey 23rd November 2018, 11:02 AM

Are people disappointed though? unsure.gif
Cashmere and Falling to Pieces are two of the strongest on there so I wouldn’t call the deluxe a waste of time.

What a great album, definitely worth the wait. I’ve always thought the album tracks would be very filler compared to the singles but they’re not at all. I even really like Summer Love, which I was expecting to dislike after the live version. Love how chilled it is, perfectly captures that end of summer vibe. I thought it’d be a lot more standard Rudimental but it’s a bit more pared back for them.

And yep, same on Apple Music, Theo! Lonely Together is greyed out.

My album arrived! Obviously I am fully supporting Rita by exclusively streaming 'Phoenix' but it's nice to have a physical copy - I really like the embossed text on the sleeve and her thank you message was very sweet. I'm surprised she is actually friends with this Vas J that I keep seeing comment on her's and every other famous person's Instagrams laugh.gif The thank you to Avicii is sweet too - I do wonder if she ever actually met him though.

I actually disagree with Joe that the deluxe is a waste of time, Soul Survivor and Cashmere are two of the best tracks for me.

Posted by: JosephAvery 23rd November 2018, 04:11 PM

I will type up a longer review later but this is SUCH a good album, the criticism is unnecessarily harsh and I don't think it warrants it at all. Her voice suits the ballads so much in a way we've not really heard before, and the new bops (First Time High and Only Want You notably) are fantastic.

Genuinely only one dud on this whole album for me! I could do without the chorus-less Velvet Rope but everything else... oh my!

I love this kinda euro dance sound she has going.

Posted by: Theo. 23rd November 2018, 10:44 PM

This is #1 on iTunes worldwide! I'm actually shook at how strong this is - I've listened about 4 times already, I rarely go back to an album this much so soon after its release.

I'll give highlights later but I really like "New Look" and I completely disagree that the deluxe tracks are pointless. "Falling to Pieces" is stunning and "Soul Survivor" is the perfect closer.

Totally not relevant to the album but I remember him ringing her on celebs go dating via FaceTime and I’m sure the signal or something cut off and it looked like she hung up laugh.gif .

Posted by: Jordan Lee 24th November 2018, 01:50 AM

Only Want You, First Time High, Falling to Pieces and Soul Surviour were my faves from the non singles so far.

Soul Surviour sounded familiar and then I realised she had performed it when I seen her on tour, setlist fm also say Summer Love was performed on tour but I remembered that less probably the weakest on the album for me actually but still a good 7/10.

Also You Love Me is a JAM. Really don’t get why it took so long to click with me I really didn’t go back to it all that often but now I’m obsessed with it heart.gif

Really good album and so worth the wait. Rita’s just got better and better for me. It’s a shame her #1s happened so early as pretty much every Phoenix single (esp Anywhere and Let You Love Me) deserve #1!

Such a step up from her debut album too.

I just hope it doesn’t take her till 2025 to release album 3 laugh.gif

Also on a random note has anyone else who’s pretty high profile had a six year gap without releasing any albums yet hasn’t actually had a break? I mean Rita’s never went away really so many singles just not an album until now.

Posted by: Cody Cranberry 24th November 2018, 02:56 AM

Geez, Q4 this has really been crankin out solid albums. Cashmere/Hell Of A Life/Summer Love/Only Want You/New Look come around as major standouts out of the current album tracks.

I LOVE the song but I have a strange inkling that it will peak at around the same place as Coming Home if it was released tongue.gif

Posted by: DexTheHalls 24th November 2018, 04:19 AM

I keep forgetting Anywhere didn’t actually get to #1 officially. It did pretty much everywhere on Buzzjack but Camila snubbed Rita of the #1 right? Somehow it didn’t even go top 10 in Australia (nor have any of her other Phoenix singles... somehow) but it is SUCH a banger. Dance-pop done right, managing to be easily accessible without being basic streaming slop like half of Anne-Marie’s album

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 24th November 2018, 08:05 AM

I really like the album. It reinforces how great ‘anywhrre’ is

Posted by: Jordan Lee 25th November 2018, 02:32 AM

I take it from Mint Royales Twitter shes #4 after the first day on sale; no sales figures but Take That who are number one sold more in one day than last weeks #1 album by Michael Buble did in its entire week.

Cliff Richard and Alfie Bowe are also ahead.

Not sure if any of Michael, Mumford and Little Mix are also ahead as they had strong sales last week the tweets only stated that the other new releases those were ahead of her.

Still, I imagine her sales should be pretty good though.

I predicted a #4 debut but with TT, Buble and LM ahead.

I’m thinking that the album might get a new peak position in the new year like the week after Christmas?

A lot of the albums ahead will appeal to an older generation so she’ll benefit from the gift buys affect that tends to happen after Christmas.

Posted by: pippa 25th November 2018, 01:47 PM

Top 5 would be a good result for the album, especially when we consider we thought it would never arrive.
Top 5 and if the album can stay steady for a few weeks she should easily achieve Gold status.

Posted by: Atonement 25th November 2018, 02:14 PM

Not completely sure how I feel about this album. It's very meh, basic and nothing surprising.. Nothing really bad to say about it either just extremely MOR with no risks.

'Falling to Pieces' stood out for me of the tracks we hadn't already heard.

Posted by: Theo. 25th November 2018, 03:28 PM

This whole album keeps on growing me but I ADORE "First Time High"! The strings on it are gorgeous and have made me super excited to hear her Clean Bandit collaboration next week 😍

Does anyone know what the Target bonus tracks are? The Japanese ones were just remixes that we'd already heard of "Anywhere" and "Let You Love Me" unfortunately.

I actually expected better than this album debuting at around #5, I honestly thought she had a strong chance of debuting with around 50,000 just due to the amount of promotion and success every single bar 'Girls' has had this era and even to an extent 'Girls' got a lot of exposure and sold decently.

Going to listen to the album tonight but have high hopes it will be the pop album of the year as every single has been a 7/10+ so far (blame Your Song)

We don't have an idea of sales yet but remember we're in the thick of Q4. Little Mix sold over 50k at #3 last week, so there's every chance her sales will be strong regardless. #1 was always out of reach against Take That and I think most of us expected a position at the low end of the top 5, maybe even a bit lower due to the busy release schedule!

Posted by: liamk97 25th November 2018, 07:52 PM

I was fully expecting a low Top 10 debut due to how competitive the market is now, but I imagine it stands a chance at climbing to a better peak in the New Year, especially if that's when they start pushing the next single.

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 25th November 2018, 08:02 PM

Yeah. Once I found out Alfie Boe, Roy Orbison and Cliff Rihard were releasing same day, I knew she'd struggle for top 5.

Sales will be strong though regardless of where it'll be, I think.

Posted by: liamk97 25th November 2018, 08:06 PM

Think the record company were quite brave to release this close to Christmas. They must have been confident that Let Me Love You would be a hit otherwise I could have seen this album get pretty lost.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 26th November 2018, 01:46 PM

11.4 K sold for the #5 album so far and she’s currently #6.

I think this is gonna peak in position after Christmas.

Posted by: tommie 26th November 2018, 01:52 PM

I'm guessing that she's a prime example of an artist whose album sales will suffer due to her audience being mainly restricted to streaming her singles rather than sitting down and listening to a full album.

Posted by: pippa 26th November 2018, 07:12 PM

Having so many singles released prior to the album makes it harder to keep the album going long term.

Posted by: slowdown73 27th November 2018, 05:25 PM

I’m somewhat surprised the album isn’t T5 at least. It features 4 hit singles but maybe that’s the problem when the singles have been staggered over a lengthy period before the album comes out !

Posted by: Theo. 28th November 2018, 11:53 AM

I don't understand how this is doing so poorly - Jess Glynne also released multiple singles before her album was out and they all reached the top 10 as well, and she's arguably had less promotion than Rita, yet she still went straight to #1. I've only listened to that once and it's so inferior, I'm really sad that Rita can't even manage the same level of success as her sad.gif

As has been said though, I'm hopeful that she can re-peak after Christmas or in the New Year but for this to be nowhere near top five officially is #sad

Posted by: JosephAvery 28th November 2018, 12:09 PM

#9 in today's mids and projected to stay there by Friday!

Posted by: pippa 28th November 2018, 02:40 PM

I hope it falls no lower than Number 9.

Posted by: Wasabi. 29th November 2018, 12:29 AM

I’d say Jess caters a lot more to beige ‘real music’ fans, which is why she manages to sell albums so much better.

Absolutely! I'm hoping she crossed 20k sales as that would at least mean she equalled/beat Anne-Marie, Dua and Zara's opening figures - all of which were released with multiple singles preceding them but debuted within the top 5/10.

Hopefully a new peak comes in the New Year once these grandma albums have died

But considering we’re well into Q4 and pure sales are double what they were weeks ago 18k isn’t exactly great for an artist of Rita’s status. Anne Marie released her album in a much lower sales period while 2002 was doing broadly similar to LMLY, and she’d had fewer singles/hits from the album than Rita yet she still outsold her.

Yes it was more competitive but if everyone’s sales are higher than they would be hers should be too.

That doesn’t explain why someone like Anne Marie who most people haven’t even heard of and has fewer hits is outselling Rita and Rita’s sales are so low in the first place though! Don’t get me wrong I want her to do well I’m just shocked at how this has done!

I think you're underestimating Anne-Marie though - Rita's album has six hits on it, Anne-Marie's had Alarm, Rockabye, Ciao Adios, FRIENDS and 2002, that's 5 big hits and even Heavy made some impact too. They aren't that far apart, even if Rita Ora is more of a "name" (which unfortunately doesn't sell albums).

Posted by: Wasabi. 30th November 2018, 05:34 PM

I think the album will serve longevity. Like, I can see it remaining top 25 for a long time and re-peaking in January.

Posted by: Cody Cranberry 30th November 2018, 05:35 PM

The sales are decent and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just that the position doesn’t scream “good first impression”. it’s too close to call anything at this point but... I’m less optimistic than usual

The sales are good, but i would have preferred the album to have entered in the Top 10.
I was hesitant all week believing she was safe when she was dropping through the week.
At some point, i hope she can climb into the Top 10.

If the album can hold steady positions for the month of December it will help build sales.
Realistcially, it wont do better than achieving Gold and possibly Silver if it falls fast.

Yet they've bought her album and streamed her music. OK...

Not even 20k is definitely bad for a Q4 release by someone so well-known with 4 big singles

Posted by: Zárate 30th November 2018, 10:12 PM

This is a sign of a flop but let’s see how it goes next week. The streaming is nice so I’d say she has some chances to stay in the top-20.

Posted by: SweetButJonjo👻 30th November 2018, 11:24 PM

The thing is, I think Rita's album would've opened with very similar numbers whether it was Q4 or not. In fact, I'd argue a bit and say that a lot of her target audience are probably asking for it for Christmas, so sales (not just for Rita ofc - most pop acts) are gonna be staggered out a bit more than the OAP faves/artists that are heavily promoting in their release weeks.

Disappointing position, but healthy sales. Would I have liked/expected 20k? Ofc. But I feel we just over estimated Q4 in general. The fact we're a few months into Q4 and have ONLY JUST got our first 100k+ seller in a single week is shocking.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 1st December 2018, 12:13 AM

Obviously starting at #11 is disappointing to see, but hopefully Phoenix will prove itself to be a steady seller and fingers crossed achieve a better position in the new year.

Holding on tight to my copy of the album before her team demands they're all sent back for the real 2nd album that we're never gonna get 👀

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 4th December 2018, 04:00 PM

I personally thought she'd do at least 30-35k for her opening week (as she feels bigger now than the time she released her first album), but I do think this will do fine in the longrun and that 'Only Want You' will be a sizeable hit to boost it.

Posted by: Theo. 4th December 2018, 11:08 PM

Rita will be performing a medley of hits on the Graham Norton Show on New Year's Eve *_* Slay a bit

Posted by: pippa 5th December 2018, 04:22 PM

That will provide good exposure and if the Clean Bandit duet takes off and becomes a hit it will help draw attention to the album.

It is lower than Little Mix. I was told it was like 70-something but I forgot which exactly.

The medley should be; Only Want You, Let You Love Me, For You and Anywhere I think. I’m guessing she can’t cram TOO much in without it feeling messy, so I’d try to steer too clear of too many older songs, even though Lonley Together and Your Song might help.

Posted by: Wreatheo 7th December 2018, 05:19 PM

"Only" down to #26 this week, which is a lot better than the Monday midweeks!

Posted by: pippa 7th December 2018, 09:07 PM

It is a relief to see it recover from Mondays position.
After the Monday update i had feared it would leave the Top 40.

Posted by: TomHo 19th December 2018, 04:09 AM

This album was a let down after such a long wait. It just felt lacklustre when I listened to it and the last few singles have not been good. She is some one who seems to cycle through good and shit music.

I liked the singles Anywhere and Your Song so I was looking forward to this but some of the album tracks were a bit dull.

Posted by: pippa 21st December 2018, 09:26 PM

Remains Top 30.
After an initial bad start it has started to steady itself on the chart now.
4 weeks Top 30, when the midweeks for week 2 came through i feared the album would fall very fast.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 22nd December 2018, 12:21 AM

Any idea on the sales for this week?

Hopefully they’ll remain more steady this week too with Xmas falling mid week I think she should sell around the same or maybe even slightly more.

I think the album will get a good few more weeks top 40 now even if it doesn’t go top ten in the new year.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 26th December 2018, 02:11 AM

Good TOTP performance she’s so underrated vocally.

Still glad we actually got a second album, I hold out hope it goes top ten in the new year but less confident than I initially was likewise with LM going to #1 I think I got carried away tongue.gif

#31 in midweeks so far so looking set to stay top 40 again this week anyways and I imagine it’ll probably spend a while in the 41-75 region of the charts and could possibly spend longer in the charts than ORA did.

I feel we’ve probably had most of the promo for the album as most of the singles were released well before the album! If the album came sooner it could’ve been a Dua Lipa style era.

I think we’ll get two more singles max then the tour then either a rest until late 2020 for album 3.

First Time High is my JAM.

Posted by: pippa 27th December 2018, 12:58 PM

The album will easily manage Gold status now as it has reasonably good sales through Christmas.

Posted by: Wreatheo 3rd January 2019, 09:11 PM

Yay at this recovering a bit!

The album remains so, so solid. "Let You Love Me" is possibly my song of last year whilst "New Look" is a huge bop and is great to work out to. "Only Want You" is the perfect breakup bop for me rn and "Soul Survivor" is her most stunning ballad to date.

I'm also rediscovering "For You" as well which really deserved to be bigger than it was, obviously it doesn't help that "Anywhere" was still huge when it was released so it overshadowed it a bit.

Posted by: pippa 4th January 2019, 03:28 PM

I don't believe Rita will ever top Anywhere, the the song is just wonderful.
That said, Let You Love Me has grown on me immensely.
I think the material from Phoenix is much stronger and appealing than that of her debut.

I’m thinking it can too. I remember Rihanna’s Rated R album didn’t go top ten until well after the New Year after that was released so this may well be similar. Even if not though I think it’ll stay top 40 for the majority of the year and I can see it going at least gold if not platinum by end of year.

I honestly don't know what else she can do in order to get a US hit, her promotion has been phenomenal.

Posted by: Cqmerqn 10th March 2019, 10:58 AM

Rita will never get a US hit (excluding Black Widow, which would’ve smashed regardless of her being on it).

Come to think of it actually, how many British females do well in the US? Adele, Dua Lipa, Ellie Goulding? Even Anne-Marie has 2 hits there.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 23rd March 2019, 02:23 AM

GOLD certified. She retweeted a tweet today what the BRITs account posted.

And #32 this week in the UK.

It’s never left the top 40 since release which is great news 17 weeks there to date just 5 more to go until it matches ORAs 22 week
run.

So glad I was proven right that after the week two drop she’d stabilise and then climb after Christmas. Just wish it peaked one position

I'm more surprised that Carry On, Ritual (and to an extent R.I.P.) haven't been added to the digital editions for an even bigger inflated number

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2019, 04:50 PM

A new edition of the album may come due to its steady performance and also that she now has enough to add to the original album to make it worth purchasing again.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 9th July 2019, 12:36 AM

Phoenix has now outlasted ORA in the UK Top 100.

(Well it did two weeks ago tbh)

32 weeks in there where as ORA managed 30.

I could also see a re release too. Maybe a Dua like re release where the album ends up having like 24/25 tracks on it

Ritual and Carry On seem obvious ones? Maybe we’ll get a new solo single in the fall and the album re release will be tied with the one year anniversary.

Watch her re peak at #11 again and get a big drop in week two and have a similar chart run year too laugh.gif
