New week, new thread!
Calvin to smash!
Is emeli not releasing until later on?
7am.
New thread, wonder if we'll break 400 again?
Will James Arthur knock The Chainsmokers off the top spot before Calvin or Emeli?
This to somehow smash this week!
81. Say It to Me (Tom Demac Mix) - Pet Shop Boys
Gavin James and Dua Lipa both 59p this week so hopefully could challenge for Top 40 next week.
PSB seem to be doing better with this release than any others from their new album?
Mollie King 'Back To You' also added to the 59p club this week Hope it gets a decent boost.
I don't like Calvin's new song. I just cringe whenever I hear his voice on his tracks, I find it so 'cheesy'..
I can't see this going top 3 actually, considering there's no support from fan-base buys.
Jesus. A smash. So not Emeli sandé! It's like the bomb and the lyrics are so relatable. Yas!
64. Calvin Harris - My Way
It's not his best, but on first listen I prefer it to TIWYCF.
Emeli's single is amazing. #1 please!
Hope Emeli smashes with Hurts, incredible comeback!
james arthur 0.90 combined wow
The Emeli Sande song should do well and deservedly so. It sounds a very 'autumn' song if that makes any sense...
50 Calvin Harris My Way
I really like Emeli's new song. After hearing both songs, I predict:
Emeli: #3
Calvin: #8
if jams potato arther iz numbar own i will stan
so much better dan laddy gaggs if dats da cas
disappointed that R1 have chosen Calvin as TOTD instead of Emeli well, at least she's song #1 on the new music Friday playlist on Spotify
39 Calvin Harris - My Way
304 Emeli Sande - Hurts
slow start for emeli but big climb now... think it started slow cos it's not a "single", couldn't find it at first, but has to be bought off the album
Hurts #53 & 83
my guess is Chainsmokers will remain number 1 overall due to streams, James Arthur will be number 1 on sales - as he is taking some fairly big climbs now that he is getting radio plays. Calvin Harris will be Number 2 on both
Emeli - top 30 debut (officially)
37 Twenty One Pilots - Cancer
Doing much better than I expected - Get that smash TØP!
hahaha was gonna post how disappointingly the new 21 Pilots is doing relative to the US (top 3)
Calvin now #14
Emeli #42 & 57
not impressed with the calvin harris track on first listen. such a shame james arthur has no chance of challenging for the official number 1 (bar a miracle turnaround with streaming)
Yeah, echoing most people's comments on here that Calvin's single is pretty average but Emeli's is brilliant! Both should go Top 10, though I'm hoping Top 3 for Emeli, she deserves it with a comeback single like that.
Calvin 10 and Emelie 16 combined. She will pass him soon, I'm hoping, She was out after him.
calvin #10
Emeli #32 + 48
I really hope Gaga hasn't peaked already this week out of top 20 on iTunes and down to #45 on Spotify. wish we could rewind the years.
06. Calvin Harris // My Way
20. Emeli Sandé // Hurts (+43)
Hoping Twenty One Pilots can overtake Major Lazer before Emeli manages to move them out of the top 10. Ideally it'd be Callum first, but he's currently #8.
Kevin Simm's just released a single today called "Wildfire". It's not very good.
01. James Arthur // Say You Wont Let Go (+56)
06. Calvin Harris // My Way
19. Emeli Sande // Hurts (+38)
I take it James has performed somewhere to close the 0.13 gap on Kworb
OK James song is really the best in the top 10, I'm hoping he will start doing good on Spotify, It makes no sense to be number 1 or top 2 for a week and be only number 80 on Spotify, Some updates Playlists put him there today?

this is a rly good idea. just got a few 👌🏼
doin it 🙌🏼
I hope it's useful for some who like me appreciate a good bargain.
Gooddelta you may use this information as you wish each week for your weekly thread.
Was gonna grab a copy of Everything I Do, but the only one available digitally on iTunes or Spotify is the full-length 6:33 album version, not the much shorter 4-minute edit that was on the music video, 7" and CD single, played on radio and the hit everyone actually bought at the time, which is a shame. I like the song but not enough to keep my attention a whole two-minutes-thirty more than I should.
James Arthur at #1! I didn't expect that at all. It'll be interesting to see if he can hold onto that for the whole week. If so, and his streaming is decent, he could get a #1 officially which would be the first a male solo act from The X Factor has done so since Zayn with Pillowtalk, although if you wish to discount him as he was in 1D, it'd be the first since his own winners single "Impossible" (excluding that, Olly Murs' Troublemaker in 2012).
Calvin @3
Emeli @8 combined (19&22)
OK, James at 1 with more than 25% lead! WTFFF! C'mon Spotify! Emelie is 7 combined.
ha impakt! JA is currently #1! Are there any haters left?
2. Calvin Harris - My Way
7. Emeli Sande - Hurts
Estimating Emeli's current combined total based on the existing totals for #19 & #20.
In love with Hurts!! So much better than Calvins single, welcome back queen
Oops. Wrong thread.
66. KSI - Jump Around (feat. Waka Flocka Flame)
Kworb just updated...
1. James Arthur = 1.0000 | 1.0000
2. Chainsmokers = 0.7615 | 0.8081
3. Calvin Harris = 0.4878 | 0.4635
If James continues to sell at this rate, he's looking at #4 in the chart WITHOUT STREAMING. Absolutely insane.
I saw the This Morning interview earlier and fair play he doesn't seem like the douche he once was. I'm all for surprise chart hits (if they're not bad) and a James Arthur #1 would be far more shocking/hilarious than a Calvin one. Also Hassaan, Ben Haenow got to #1 didn't he?
Y&Y having no effect from the film
James Arthur's song could easily be an Ed Sheeran song, honestly not surprised to see it do so well at all ;o
Expected Emeli to be @1 by now
No progress in ages
Calvin also seems to have reached its plateaux hes at @3 but very far from @2
I highly doubted Emeli would get to #1 initially (though I did think #2!), it's a shame iTunes didn't auto combine the two versions because the top 10 exposure would have presumably done her a certain degree of good.
To be fair to Emeli she seems like the kind of artist a lot of people like but wouldn't hype up their latest release, or even know it was out yet.
She's not an internet hype kind of artist and has probably gone further away from being so by keeping such a low profile over the last few years. I'm sure that when casual music buyers, who don't follow internet blogs for new Friday releases hear that she is back she will pick up more sales steadily over time.
3. Calvin Harris - My Way
15. Emeli Sande – Hurts
22. Emeli Sande – Hurts
57. Artists Of Then, Now & Forever - Forever Country
61. KSI - Jump Around (feat. Waka Flocka Flame)
66. Shawn Mendes – Don't Be A Fool
77. Travis - Idlewild (feat. Josephine Oniyama)
88. Pet Shop Boys - Say It to Me (Tom Demac Mix)
95. MIST - Ain't the Same
115. MiC LOWRY - Oh Lord
144. Anna Kendrick & Justin Timberlake - True Colors
185. Kevin Simm - Wildfire
193. Jojo - Mad Love
284. Pentatonix - Jolene (feat. Dolly Parton)
395. Tinashe – Company
456. Dillon Francis - Anywhere (feat. Will Heard)
579. Dragonette - Sweet Poison (feat. Dada)
606. Drumsound & Bassline Smith - Catch Me Here (feat. Conor Maynard)
1015. Coldplay - Up&Up (Freedo Remix)
1119. Allie X - That’s So Us
1221. Pet Shop Boys - Say It to Me (New Radio Mix)
I'm surprised that a programme that's on at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM can have that much of an impact for a song, the housewives and people on the dole must have showed their love for this song from James Arthur.
All for James Arthur returning to the charts - I supported him through his days on X-Factor and then, like most of the public, let him go once he seemed to want to just throw it all away. This new single is great though - would be nice to see it becoming a long-running hit like "Dancing on My Own".
It's not like Emeli's got a massive fanbase or anything so I can see Hurts continuing to climb for a bit as awareness increases, as opposed to a fanbase act peaking quickly and falling.
56. Wiley - Can't Go Wrong
61. Tom Zanetti - You Want Me (feat. Sadie Ama)
54. Kideko & George Kwali - Crank It (Woah!) [feat. Nadia Rose & Sweetie Irie]
65. Rag'n'Bone Man - Human (this has done great, could've easily been a hit if it got more airplay!)
84. Giggs - Lock Doh (feat. Donae'o)
91. Hailee Steinfeld & Grey - Starving (feat. Zedd) (and Ryan faints as this hits the top 100 think there's a good chance this'll be a big Top 5 hit eventually though)
102. NEIKED - Sexual (feat. Dyo) (see above)
107. Francis and the Lights - Friends (feat. Bon Iver)
111. BETSY - Lost & Found
164. Gallant - Bourbon
wtf is going on with james arthur being @ #01. i mean, putting aside the fact the song is dreadful...JAMES ARTHUR? good lord
I would never have thought I see James Arthur at #1 again I didn't know he had many fans out there, I just hope the track just fades throughout next week. He seems to have a bit of a lead on Chainsmokers on LPB's
Hailee was as high as #81 this morning! *.* Music video release is imminent, she's top 20 on UK spotify and Capital are beginning to play her - she's coming
da fuq @ james arthur ~ vapid MOR at its very worst~
You guys haven't realised the uk has awful music taste yet then??
I'm surprised that neither Ellie or Y&Y have benefited much from the film being out today..
I can't believe James Arthur is #1 Good for him I guess. I'm not really feeling it compared to his first album singles!
Giggs for #1 tbh (I feel like ML Hammer95 would support this). It has some absolutely awful lyrics, but it's kind of a jam.
Shame he won't be official #1 as his streaming is poor
3. Calvin Harris - My Way
10. Emeli Sande – Hurts (+31)
34. Tom Zanetti - You Want Me (feat. Sadie Ama)
50. Artists Of Then, Now & Forever - Forever Country
55. Wiley - Can't Go Wrong
59. KSI - Jump Around (feat. Waka Flocka Flame)
62. Shawn Mendes – Don't Be A Fool
86. The Shires - My Universe
107. NEIKED - Sexual (feat. Dyo)
113. Anna Kendrick & Justin Timberlake - True Colors
160. JoJo - Mad Love
171. Pentatonix - Jolene (feat. Dolly Parton)
320. JP Cooper - September Song
328. Tinashe – Company
488. Dragonette - Sweet Poison (feat. Dada)
573. Drumsound & Bassline Smith - Catch Me Here (feat. Conor Maynard)
613. Coldplay - Up&Up (Freedo Remix)
873. Allie X - That’s So Us
1146. Pet Shop Boys - Say It to Me (New Radio Mix)
1385. Idina Menzel - Perfect Story
1483 - Prides - Are You Ready?
Current Voice winner Kevin Simm released a new single called "Wildfire" yesterday. Not into top 1500? Not good!
28. Tom Zanetti - You Want Me (feat. Sadie Ama)
Who's Tom Zanetti? An offaiah-style performance from it so far.
He had a deep house song last year 'Darlin' which got some radio one support but didn't make any chart impact. Not heard this new one yet - surprised it's doing this well.
Yeah, always puzzles me how established acts like Lost Frequencies and Avicii can massively flop with a single yet the likes of offaiah and Tom Zanetti can initially go top 30 with a single?
In other news James Arthur is the furthest ahead he's ever been, I'd love for him to push Closer down to 0.5
I wish Tom Zanetti - Darlin' had made some chart impact, it's one of the best dance tracks of recent years. Maybe they can push it again at a later date? I don't think it received any real R1 support first time around except for INMWT list (or maybe not even that, perhaps just TOTD and not playlisting it like they tend to do).
Glad to see this doing well anyway!
8. Emeli Sande – Hurts (+45)
22. Tom Zanetti - You Want Me (feat. Sadie Ama)
50. Wiley - Can't Go Wrong
59. Shawn Mendes – Don't Be A Fool
75. Giggs - Lock Doh (feat. Donae'o)
82. Hailee Steinfeld & Grey - Starving (feat. Zedd)
89. NEIKED - Sexual (feat. Dyo)
90. Pentatonix - Jolene (feat. Dolly Parton)
101. Jacob Plant & Stylo GBike Engine (Radio Edit)
111. Anna Kendrick & Justin Timberlake - True Colors
504. Coldplay - Up&Up (Freedo Remix)
1112. Pet Shop Boys - Say It to Me (New Radio Mix)
Emeli has stalled according to kworb
Calvin still making big gains
It feels very 2012 with James, Emeli and Sia all in the top 10. Really praying that Emeli bags a number one with 'Hurts' - the verses are killer.
Tom Zanetti up to 19
Taste The Feeling wasn't a proper Avicii single, and besides - it's one of the worst things he's put his name to.
I'm sure when Avicii releases his next single it'll shoot up into the top end of the iTunes chart.
Why is Tom Zanetti getting a 0.05 boost out of nowhere
Taste the Feeling definitely wasn't a proper single. It's fun for what it is (an advert track) but was never anything more!
Tom Zanetti up to 14
06. Ellie Goulding - Still Falling For You

1440. Mike Hough - Ironic
07. Olly Murs - You Don't Know Love
05. Ellie Goulding - Still Falling For You
Coming for a new peak
Did Pillowtalk get a boost after this?
13.Tom Zanetti - You Want Me (ft.Sadie Ama)
Crazy to see this so high!! Used to have this as my ringtone years ago. Why has it all of a sudden shot up the charts? If I remember correctly this has been around 3/4 years?
So has Ollys song got it usual short lived boost?
Up from 28-46% but it'll only matter if it moves up strongly on streaming and in sure it'll be down to 30% on iTunes by Tuesday!
There's one thing I don't understand about kworb and I'm sure I'm being stupid lol.
The Chainsmokers just had a light green update
Ellie just had a dark green update
Yet The Chainsmokers gained more 'points'.. how does that work?
Lady Gaga is flopping absolutely everywhere (I wouldnt even call it flopping its worse) it has fell to number 132 on France I tunes. It is out of the top 40 in a lot of markets. I know its a dud lead single but I didnt expect to be this bad. Its also doing crap on Spotify everywhere. This is definately one of the worst performing lead singles by a 'major' pop singer in a long time. And the album is coming out in 5 weeks...it is a horrificaly bad start to an album campaign. There seems to be 0 interst at all. She was even doing fairly average when Applause was released but this is tanking. I expected a huge comeback al a Justin Bieber, she used to be massive
James Arthur's success has seemed to stir interest in his back catalogue - Impossible is #117 and his album is back in the iTunes Top 150, big boosts for his music on Spotify too.
I don't think Katy will struggle actually, I think the issue with Rise was simply the song, I like it but it's one of her weakest for sure, plus the Apple exclusive thing led to terrible Spotify streams when it eventually got added I think if she puts out a huge pop song next, she'll have no trouble getting a big hit!
I must admit, this is how I expected Gaga to do really - it's a love/hate song seemingly, and her star has faded a lot the past few years, that was especially clear last era. It's doing *okay* for now and it's waaaaay too early to write it off but it's not doing excellently. The issue with Britney is radio, they see her as past it when she's making incredibly current and relevant music, it's a shame.
But the thing with Britney is she has been in the business since 1999 and hasnt been popular in the last few years which is understandable as she is not regarded in the same league as Katy Perry, Rihanna, Pink, Ariana nowadays, and she doesnt really seem to care about success anymore or care anymore. Also radio refuse to play her as they think she is past it, if she released Toxic now it would flop. And that Katy Perry song was just a promotional song for NBC Olympics in the US, nota lead single with little promotion so it didnt really matter if it did bad like Pinks song for the film. If Rise was a lead single it would be a different story.
I'd never have told people at school that I liked Lady Gaga personally, so I have to agree with Dobbo. She's never exactly been "cool" in the same way as Drake, Rihanna or Justin Bieber, but she sold a lot of records..
Closer getting closer and closer to James Arthur again, I hope he clings on :/
Weren't the likes of NME and Kerrang praising Gaga, though (who's core audience are predominantly males)? Especially coz I'd guess she was a bit more "dark" and daring with her pop than majority of others. So I'd argue she was cool to like for guys. Right up to about 'Born This Way', which as anthemic as it was for her gay fans, it kinda isolated "the straights" and from then on... That's just how I see it personally. She catered specifically to her gay fans, pretty early on in her career and I think, it's kind of had a knock on effect as a whole.
(I hope this makes sense )
well I loved the 'Born This Way' era and I'm not even gay I see where you're coming from though. She could have easily just made some widely accessible hits but she chose to cater to her core fanbase more than the general public.
She said in an interview recently that it was a joint agreement between her and her management to have PI as the lead single, what were they thinking? The lead single is meant to be the most GP friendly, accessible, commercial song on the album. This was a bad move, if this is the best they can offer. If the is the most commercial song on the album, they may scrap it. They shouldnt have released the release date so they could delay it w
Justin Bieber is incredibly cool right now I think! A lot of people I know have been loving him since Where Are U Now and are quite happy to talk about him.
Honestly I get the sense with this era that commercial success isn't the priority for Gaga, so if that's true, Perfect Illusion likely wasn't a bad choice.
They're not going to scrap the album just because the lead didn't do well. Lady Gaga said it's a very personal album so I very much doubt she'd be okay with delaying or scrapping it in fear of having a commercial flop (and I'm sure money isn't an issue anyway, she's got loads of it)
Who cares who's cool or not really :')
But yeah I feel like it's definitely much more widely accepted to like Bieber than it was a few years ago!
The Chainsmokers at 0.9049
The kids at school love Bieber at the moment. Even the older lads love his 'bangers'.
Lady Gaga didn't take off until I was in uni and was in decline by the time I started teaching so I'm unable to address whether or not she was ever cool.
I hope James can hold on til 6pm so he gets the Big Top 40 #1 at least
True, most people I speak to think the iTunes #1 is the official number 1.
I still enjoy it when two versions of the same single are in the Top 10 and they have to play it twice! Amazing.
Yes the rules have always seemed made up as they go along
It's a real shame that it's actually the official chart which seems to have become meaningless in the eyes of the public, even though it means the most. People might know what's #1 on Spotify or iTunes but probably not officially as hardly anybody listens to the official chart and it's barely referenced in the media anymore, apart from when a record is broken, like Ward Thomas becoming the first UK country #1 album.
We used to get blanket media coverage of every new #1, especially if it was a novelty song (would never happen anymore), or something that stands out from everything else musically (this never happens anymore either, if it ain't mildly tropical house-inspired pop or dance then it ain't coming in )
I just think it's because people only seem to like songs by random dance acts / Justin Bieber or male ed sheeran types.
If you're female you're f***ed really. Ellie and Emeli should be doing much better and even Ariana has only just got a top 10 hit. It's a shame and I hope the music climate changes because music released this year has been great but we're still celebrating trash at the top of the charts.
It's even harder for new artists too, M.O and Dua Lipa would've done much better a couple of years or so ago too I think. It actually is low key upsetting to see.
The Big Top 40 show is more interesting than the Radio 1 show now at least, plays records that don't get into the "play zone" on Radio 1! Makes me laugh though that they reveal the current top 10 at 5pm like it's going to change at all in 1 hour's time.
The Big Top 40 is a mess of a chart, it really makes me laugh. Songs that drop out the iTunes Top 10 while they're on air effectively drop off the chart
52. Shawn Mendes – Don't Be A Fool
72. Giggs - Lock Doh (feat. Donae'o)
79. Hailee Steinfeld & Grey - Starving (feat. Zedd)
86. Pentatonix - Jolene (feat. Dolly Parton)
04. Olly Murs - You Don't Know Love
Quite a boost for James Arthur now which suggests either the Big Top 40 is actually great promo, or the X Factor spammed him on the show tonight.
Not one play nor mention of James Arthur on tonight's show
They did however play Millionaire on almost every soundbed between ads so maybe that will see some of boost?
04. Olly Murs - You Dont Know Love
05. Ellie Goulding - Still Falling For You (new peak tomorrow?)
DJ Snake - Let Me Love You
20. Digital Farm Animals - Millionaire
42. Years & Years - Meteorite (shocking!)
When ever I hear the Big Top 40 show it's always weird to hear Marvin Humes say "you can change the songs that we play in the top 10 by downloading your favourite tune now from iTunes". I doubt there is a single person in the UK who buys songs on iTunes just to make sure it will be in the top 10 by 6 PM on Sunday. The top 10 of iTunes by 6 PM on a Sunday is just a matter of coincidence surely, especially now that new releases come out on Fridays and not Sundays like they used to.
surprised Emeli is down to #12, but just heard it's TOTD today on R1 so should big climb today
Both Heart and Capital are now playing James Arthur so I expect he'll continue to sell well
04. Ellie Goulding
NEW PEAK!!
30% lead now James have. top 50 on Spotify.
I was gonna say James is beginning to pull away - I reckon number 1 next week (maybe) if streaming continues to grow
The gap between Ellie and Calvin is far too much but I'm glad it has hit a new peak!
Performed on X Factor last night:
41. Lukas Graham - 7 Years (Also 185, 402)
59. DNCE - Cake By the Ocean (Also 93, 306, 514, 566)
64. Fifth Harmony - Work from Home (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) (Also 214, 272)
127. Wiz Khalifa - See You Again (feat. Charlie Puth)
152. Jessie J - Flashlight (Also 1032)
183. Boyz II Men & Mariah Carey - One Sweet Day (Also 865)
191. One Direction - Little Things
260. Avicii - Wake Me Up
325. Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - Ain't No Mountain High Enough
365. Wilson Phillips - Hold On

I'm struggling to think of the last shock iTunes Number 1 before James Arthur...
Yeah, I reckon definitely BMTH!
But BMTH or Love Me were at @1 for
5 nanoseconds
James Arthur has been there for days now
James is doing SO WELL, maybe my prediction for #2 this week could be true ;o
he's #2 in today's mids so you could possibly be right! (but #4 seems more likely as Let Me Love You and Cold Water both sold more than it in the last 24 hours, and they can easily catch up with added streams)
Isn't it sad that when a single by someone other than a North American A-lister hits #1 on iTunes we're all in shock?
Emeli is back in the top 10
167. Fifth Harmony - That's My Girl.
Please slay.
Has tom odell popped up at all with Here I Am?
Didnt Stone Roses get itunes number 1 recently?
That's My Bop at #100, just 99 more places to go.
That's my girl video is brilliant
Song - not so great on first listen
James with 40% lead and already huge Jump on Spotify top 19, next week I think he will make it.
crazy lead now
(combined and weighted)
1 James Arthur 1.00
2 Chainsmokers 0.58
3 Calvin 0.51
4 Ellie 0.37
5 Calum 0.35
Is it impossible for him to get #1 this week?
171. Leah McFall - Wolf Den
Very pleasantly surprised Leah still has the fanbase to go top 200 on iTunes! *.*
43. Tove Lo - Cool Girl
Why and how? It was like 80 yesterday
47. James Bay. Why the resurge?
@leethommo There's a big new single getting a global release tomorrow (Thurs) and everyone who knows about it has had to signed NDA's.
NDAs?
oh hope it's someone big like Taylor Swift maybe?
I've heard whispers of a Daft Punk and The Weeknd collaboration coming this week, so it could be that? I'm hoping for something else though
Could be Katy Perry?
Daft Punk/The Weeknd or Bruno Mars would be great!
It would be ludicrous if it was Ludacris!
My instinct was Bruno Mars, I think his album is expected in October like Joseph says so I wouldn't be surprised to see a single now. There are rumblings about Taylor, but I just can't see her releasing anything this year apart from maybe a greatest hits but it seems too early for that as that would be aimed at the Christmas market.
9. Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha - In the Name of Love
10. Emeli Sandé - Hurts
11. Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own (will still be top 10 combined but the top version's out for now)
356. Shawn Mendes - Mercy
573. Shawn Mendes - Mercy
^ Video for that is released today, expect it to start impacting soon!
1500. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
omg a Daft Punk/The Weeknd collab would be amazing. would probably be a monster Spotify hit too. and it's been a while since we last had Daft Punk music in our lives.
Robbie Williams is on "The Graham Norton Show" next week (30th Sept), he's surely going to have a Single to promote ? Could be the rumoured Kylie collaboration...
It's obv Mandy Moore coming to save the pop world *.*
That is a very early return for Mariah Carey All I Want For Christmas is You to the top 1500.
And i can confirm your opinion is also correct JosephStyles
42 Artists Of Then, Now & Forever - Forever Country
this is #3 in the US, a sorta medley of country songs :/
oh i see the Mariah gifs are being put out already.
I raise you with
1040. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
why is she climbing anyway? christmas ain't for another 3 months
945. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
Surely sales at 945 on itunes are about 4 people these days
Well some members did when trying to get Lisa Scott-Lee in the charts, not sure how many people actually bought it but it got her into the top 1000.
Let's all buy One More Sleep to test this out
Mariah rising
I would have thought Hadji would be up for Mariah finally getting her turn robbed after those chart hogging scum East 17 had the audacity to block her and every other new hit for multiple weeks...
Michelle McManus - All This Time for Buzzjack Christmas #1
On the huge release thingy tomorrow, Annie Mac said it's new material from The Weeknd.
Oh my! Two of my favourite artists of all time collaborating?! Too good to be true.
What a way to end the year of crappy and beige (mainly dance) number 1's.
I just want one massive, pure pop smash to be number 1. Really hated the charts this year. So many amazing songs have missed out to unoriginal, uninspired crap. It says a lot when my fave number 1 of this year was also a number 1 from the end of last year. :\ (and if we're talking about "new" chart hits then it's Shawn Mendes - Stitches and Zayn - Pillowtalk, both of which are quite dull to me now)
I know many of you right now love it, but it's awful for me.
EDIT: YES. I am bitter!!!
Daft Punk aren't exactly trend-hoppers so we can hope they'll actually bring something vaguely original to the table, and it'll smash either way because of The Weeknd's streaming impakt.
We can hope
Agreed totally to Jonjo above. I'm in my late twenties so I'm hardly gonna enjoy the charts as much as my partying college/uni days (2008-2012) but I look back at a year like 1995, which I'd adore if that was the stuff being released now, and wonder what's gone so wrong. I used to think music would evolve into new and exciting sounds - it hasn't, it's gone backwards and boring.
It all started so well this year too, I was thrilled when 'In Ibiza' became such a huge #1. Then Drake happened
I reckon it's more likely to be Bruno Mars tomorrow - everyone already knows about Daft Punk & The Weeknd so no need for NDA - and if it was The Weeknd, Annie would have broken it!
I'd love it to be Bruno.
Could it be Eminem?
18. Zara Larsson - Ain't My Fault
back to top 20 and performance on Jonathan Ross this saturday, yay
Yeah this has been one of the worst chart years I can remember. It's not even like there's a lack of good chart music like there was (imo) last year. We have new exciting pop artists like Dua Lipa, M.O., Anne-Marie and MO all underperforming and then big exciting pop comebacks from the likes of Britney, GaGa, Demi and others doing terribly.
I agree we are WAY overdue a big pop #01. Work From Home, Cheap Thrills and Lush Life all should have got there .
35. Lady GaGa - Perfect Illusion
Thought the music video would have more effect . With c list on radio 1 and music video release already I really can't see it staying around very long. Streaming is also pretty poor. As a huge fan of hers I just don't understand why this is underperforming
29. Rag'n'Bone Man - Human
40. Craig David & Sigala - Ain't Giving Up
41. Tory Lanez - Luv
58. NEIKED - Sexual (feat. Dyo)
61. Travis - Idlewild (feat. Josephine Oniyama)
70. Hailee Steinfeld & Grey - Starving (feat. Zedd)
73. Francis and the Lights - Friends (feat. Bon Iver)
138. Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
155. Leah McFall - Wolf Den
So The Weeknd Reese his new single with Daft Punk and its gonna rule the world. A world class. Bring it on!!!
530 The Weeknd Starboy (feat. Daft Punk)
(+ also at #603)
401. The Weeknd ft Daft Punk - Starboy
458. The Weeknd ft Daft Punk - Starboy
Is it advertised on the iTunes front page?
not so far, would be much higher, it's not even out as single
I see it's on Spotify too already... but how they're gonna count their streams is also an issue cos Spotify does not report Thu data on time and Thu data is always an estimation based on the streams gained during the week... not sure how can they estimate a brand new Thu release
Weeknd & Daft Punk are releasing yay!!! bring it on. hang on... that's the #1 sorted till Xmas That would be amazing with just a handful of songs taking the #1 spot this year, that would be 8 in total, not counting Justin Bieber at the beginning of the year.
91. The Weeknd // Starboy (feat. Daft Punk)
Really like the new Weeknd track. It's great. Hoping it can block James next week.
I doubt it will knock James off
Come on The Weeknd!!
It'll be big on streaming so hopefully that means it can beat James Arthur to number one
58. The Weeknd // Starboy (feat. Daft Punk)
50+81. The Weeknd // Starboy (feat. Daft Punk)
I think Weekunk have got the #1 in the bag for next week. Poor James got nipped in the end at least a better track will be at #1.
Why do people think this will go to number 1?
I also think it won't block James Arthur, nice tune but hardly on the same level as Get Lucky
Wow, love, love, love this from Weeknd and Daft Punk.
I think it will be close - Its obviously going to come down to streaming. However its flying up I-tunes chart as barring the top 2/3 there's hardly that much between anything else
The Weeknd won't get a second #1 album. He'll get blocked by Emeli Sandé
yes cos all albums peak in week 1 and later climbs to #1 never ever ever ever happen
34. The Weeknd ft Daft Punk // Star Boy (+59)
Also looking at the latest from Kworb, combined James has pushed Chainsmokers to 0.5 (or thereabouts)
Maybe it will rise faster on Friday when people are actually expecting new music?
I doubt it'll actually make number one but it should be a top ten hit next week at least
29+58 now for The Weekend
Yeah I thought this would be rising a lot faster actually, obviously it still has plenty of time but I'm not sure it will be #1 next week at this rate.
I'm surprised that Years & Years hasn't taken off.... Meteorite isn't top 100 on Spotify even... I'd have thought they'd have enough of a fanbase to get them top 50 at least considering its not another album track...
'Starboy' is quite good on first listen, it does sound like an eventual #1 but I'd quite like James Arthur to get there for one week.
and it's TOTD on R1 so a #1 challenger should be definitely climbing faster... think it's climbing +/- at the same speed as EMELI last Friday
I'd say most of The Weeknd's fans are teens who are still at school. I reckon it will leap after 4pm.
Was The Weeknd's new single today's big global release? I thought it wasn't known who would be releasing today?
It wasn't known for sure, but there had been whispers of a Weeknd/Daft Punk collab for a few days now.
I didn't read it at the time, but looks like all music news websites commented on The Weeknd being on the studio with Daft Punk one month ago, so sure it wasn't a secret unexpected collab
^ pretty sure there was an issue earlier this year with The Stone Roses
by the way, James Arthur is increasing his lead again, Chainsmokers almost down to 0.50 when James is combined
20. The Weeknd ft Daft Punk // Star Boy (+59)
Why is it such a problem for Spotify to report Thursday's streaming data in time for Friday afternoon's chart? Surely in this technological day and age it can't be that difficult!
Would LOVE Neiked to become a hit!! 'Sexual' is amazeeee great to see it fairly high despite no airplay (to my knowledge!)
The Thursday rule hugely effected the Christmas songs last year, too. As Thursday was Christmas eve all the Christmas songs had their biggest streams (by far) that day, but it was unweighted instead included.
OMG loving this Starboy song. And The Weeknd's demo isn't teens. When I was in my first year of uni 4 years ago, everyone was raving about him.
James Arthur would be a nice shock #1 for the history books but Starboy is 100% the best and more original song of the two imo.
not sure how original it is to repeat what Daft Punk and Pharrell did 3 years ago already, that was original, doing a Get Lucky part 2 now, that's not very groundbreaking at all imho... good song, all you want, but an rnb singer collaborating with Daft Punk... done before...
still shocking how well James Arthur is doing, so well it almost makes no sense, there are much better songs by much better singer-songwriters with much more promo and radio support and they do barely nothing, was just listening to Tom Odell's Magnetised now, and for me that's 1000 times better than the James Arthur song (and I do genuinely like it), got tons of airplay and still only got to #40 on the charts :/
was just replying to someone saying the Weeknd deserved it more cos the song was more original than James Arthur
which I personally don't think it's the case
just cos a song is by a singer-songwriter and an acoustic guitar doesn't make it boring and unoriginal, but each to his/her own
14. The Weeknd ft Daft Punk // Star Boy (+55)
Honestly 9 times out of 10, I doubt the data would make much difference to the final outcome of the chart. Sure, we've had instances where it notably has made a difference, but on your average week, you might get a few of the lower positions swapping or something but I wouldn't say it matters a great deal if a big hit from January is #177 instead of #176 Most of the time we get an accurate estimation I would say! (having said this, I would prefer correct data, but they can't delay the chart just because Spotify are crap at reporting data on time)
The Weeknd now at #14 (+55)
Human at #31
Lady gaga up to #34 (video effect)
Country Forever #39
Kooks #40 (is it in an ad??)
new Chase & Status #51
I'd expect The Weeknd to have a massive impact this time tomorrow - it'll probably be advertised then, and as far as I'm aware there's nothing bigger out, so it'll be #1 on the Spotify new music playlist.
That segué's nicely onto my question of the week - what's out tomorrow that could do something in the iTunes top 40
what's out tomorrow that could do something in the iTunes top 40?
x2
Aston Merrygold – I Ain't Missing You
(lol as if)
Any reason why The Kooks have climbed?
new Weeknd song is brilliant.
The Weeknd #6
Edit. #5 now!
The Weeknd needs to stay away from Ellie
Yeahhh can we not have this average Weeknd track clogging up the top for months, think I'd prefer James Arthur actually.
4. The Weeknd ft Daft Punk - Starboy
Combined, he's #4, #5 & #51 otherwise.
