Today marks 30 years since the release of 'Tears On My Pillow', the fourth and final single taken from Enjoy Yourself. The song was originally performed by American soul group Little Anthony and the Imperials in the 1950s, which Kylie chose to cover upon hearing it at a dinner party in Pete Waterman's house. Kylie's version takes a more poppy approach but remains largely faithful to the original and allowed Kylie to showcase her vocal more than before. It was included on the soundtrack to Kylie's film debut The Delinquents, giving the song extra exposure and assisting it in topping the UK charts, making Kylie only the second female act to have as many as four number ones at the time. 30 years on, how does 'Tears On My Pillow' rate for you? |

It doesn't rate as a particularly defining Kylie moment for me, but it's a nice enough song, and it was her only #1 of the 90's wasn't it? So it helped her to achieve #1's in 3 different decades so played it's part.

Its not her best song but I still like it.its a little frightening its 30 years old, I feel old now. This post has been edited by Feel_The_Fever: 9th January 2020, 01:31 AM |

It's my least favourite of her number ones but I do have a big soft spot for it. It's a cute song. As mentioned, it did provide Kylie with her only #1 of the 90s although, if there could only be one pick, 'Better the Devil You Know' deserved that accolade.
What's everyone's thoughts on the B-side, 'We Know the Meaning of Love'? |

She has many songs from that time that deserved the number 1 more but with time tears on my pillow was an important number 1 that gave her the accolade of having a number 1 in 3 decades.i like we know the meaning of love but rarely listen to it.

Tears on my Pillow gets a hard time but i enjoy the song.
I agree with others, it is her weakest Number 1 single and i would have preferred Better the Devil You Know or What Do I Have To Do to have achieved the number 1 status instead of it. Like others have said, it has proved to have been a very important Number 1 too. |

Ya those songs and never too late I'd swap from that time to have been a number 1 ahead of it.

To be honest, I'd probably swap most of her number ones for songs that just missed out.

I would also prefer most of Kylie's Number 2 hits to her many of her Number 1's.
Ideally, some of her Number 2 hits would have went all the way. Do we know what was the closest margin any of her number 2 hits missed out on Number 1 by? |

I think I seen a post on this before I dont think any of her number 2 hits were close to number 1 the weeks they missed out.

I like this song more than I did when it was released. Her vocals are great but it’s not one of my favourites.

Liked it at the time but I can only hear it occasionally now, definitely one I skip.
The video was the start of the major image change...so we have it to thank for that...sex Kylie first made an appearance. Of course BTDYK should have been number one a few months later though in time it has outperformed TOMP in every way possible. The Neighbours fandom started to recede and vinyl single sales continued to fall so Kylie needed to evolve to stay relevant as a pop star. |

Yes, it was a start of the change but not as dramatic ( at that time) as what was to come on Rhythm of Love.I think in many ways Michael Hutchence possibly provided Kylie with the longevity she went onto achieve, i think he unearthed something she didn't even know she had and gave her a confidence to start taking control of her career.

I just realized that Kylie's Delinquents beau Charlie Schlatter later starred in Diagnosis: Murder for many seasons. I remember I watched the movie, got the soundtrack on cassette, but I can't recall if it was a good movie...
