Chart Commentary

Continuing its sudden ascent up the chart, Brazil by British singer/songwriter Declan McKenna jumps a further six places to become his very first #1. It's only his second chart hit, having debuted a week after his most recent single Humongous, which re-enters at #31 this week. Brazil was originally released in December 2014, although was re-released to radio earlier this year, making it both the first and sixth singles from his debut album. Declan is also the second artist this year to "do the double" and top my singles and albums charts at the same time, as What Do You Think About the Car? rebounds three places for a third non-consecutive week at #1. Earlier this year, Zara Larsson did the double as Symphony climbed to #1 in So Good's second week atop my album chart.

Declan McKenna
2017 03 Humongous | 7 | 18-3-8-16-27-38-X-31- (7+ non-consecutive weeks)
2017 01 Brazil | 1/6 | 20-21-24-28-32-7-1-... (7+ weeks)

The highest new entry this week, and the only new song in the top 10, comes from Niall Horan. His third single Too Much to Ask keeps up his 100% top 10 hit rate, and makes Niall the first solo 1D member to get three top 10 hits on his own (Harry and Louis have two, Zayn has one, Liam has none). Too Much to Ask's peak (so far) is slap bang in the middle of his other two peak positions - debut single This Town made #5 in its first full week, while follow-up single Slow Hands climbed and peaked at #9.

Niall Horan
2016 05 This Town | 1 | 24-5-9-14-17-23-28-38-X (8 weeks)
2017 09 Slow Hands | 2 | 27-38-34-28-12-9-15-22-31-X (9 weeks)
2017 07 Too Much to Ask | 3 | 7-... (1+ weeks)

Becoming this week's highest climber, Logic jumps a huge 20 places to claim a new personal best with his very first chart hit, 1-800-273-8255. The song features Alessia Cara and Khalid, both of whom also get a new personal best. It's a double whammy for Khalid, a he gets his second top 20 hit in the same week as his first, as part of Lorde's Homemade Dynamite remix. The song also gives Post Malone and SZA their very first hits in my chart.

Joining the "new personal best" crew this week is PRETTYMUCH, who climb for the fourth straight week with debut single Would You Mind. This week, it's up 5 places to #5, on an impressive 9th week in my top 20.

Hey Joseph!

Wasn't too keen on the new Niall track, I'd rank it ahead of This Town but much preferred Slow Hands myself

Liking the Anne-Marie one, hope it can be another hit for her but not off to the best start!

The Lorde track is quite good but haven't taken to anything else from the album bar Green Light

Good to see Lonely Together, Ready For It & Mi Gente all still here cheer.gif

Hi Joseph!

1. Declan McKenna - Brazil - 20-21-24-28-32-7-1- Didn't see that coming! I do like 'Brazil' but I think I'd place it third behind Humongous and The Kids!
3. The Tide - Naked - 2-3- Listened to this week, not as good as that one about the cuffs but still not bad. I wonder if they'll ever properly break through, there doesn't seem like there's much of a market for new boy bands at the moment unsure.gif
6. Matoma & The Vamps - Staying Up - 1-3-6- Really loving this now, my favourite Vamps single for ages!
7. Niall Horan - Too Much to Ask - 7- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** Wasn't sure about it when I first heard it but it's massively grown on me and I love it now. The chorus is just lush wub.gif
9. Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do - 17-1-2-5-9-
10. Justin Bieber & BloodPop® - Friends - 5-1-4-4-8-10-
12. Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug - Havana - 13-16-21-17-10-11-12-
13. CNCO & Little Mix - Reggaetón Lento - 22-2-5-6-12-13-
14. Anne-Marie - Heavy - 14- I'm so disappointed by this. It's not that it's a bad song, it's just very mediocre compared to Alarm and Ciao Adios, and given how long we've had to wait for this I was really expecting something a little more mind-blowing sad.gif I'm not surprised it's flopping, I'm just praying she can come back from it and it's not going to damage her career too much.
15. Logic feat. Alessia Cara & Khalid - 1-800-273-8255 - 34-35-15- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER **
16. P!nk - What About Us - 29-1-3-6-8-14-16-
17. Avicii feat. Rita Ora - Lonely Together - 2-6-9-19-21-17- I think this has overtaken Without You as the one I prefer now smile.gif
18. Taylor Swift - ...Ready For It? - 17-15-18-
19. Stefflon Don & French Montana - Hurtin' Me - 38-19-
22. Mollie King - Hair Down - 9-18-22-
23. Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj - Swish Swish - 2-3-5-7-10-14-16-25-32-33-32-32-24-25-20-16-20-23- ** LONGEST RUNNER **
24. Paloma Faith - Crybaby - 26-7-16-24-
26. Louis Tomlinson feat. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals - Back to You - 8-1-1-1-3-7-10-14-22-26-
28. Kesha - Praying - 1-3-3-5-4-4-9-13-20-24-28-
29. Dua Lipa - New Rules - 4-5-7-7-7-7-11-15-21-25-29-
30. Jason Derulo - If I'm Lucky - 25-27-30-
31. Declan McKenna - Humongous - 18-3-8-16-27-38-X-31-
34. Harry Styles - Two Ghosts - 5-6-9-12-16-20-29-30-33-36-34-
39. ZAYN feat. Sia - Dusk Till Dawn - 39- That's a very low new entry for such a great song! Shame you're not feeling it as much as I am but hopefully it will hit you soon!

Great chart as always biggrin.gif

Hi Dobbo! Thanks for the comments biggrin.gif

Anne-Marie seems to have been hindered by the loss of Hot Songs on iTunes, it's a weird one as I expected it to debut much higher!

Green Light is my favourite from Melodrama but I really like the full album actually wub.gif

7. Niall Horan - Too Much to Ask - 7- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** Wasn't sure about it when I first heard it but it's massively grown on me and I love it now. The chorus is just lush wub.gif
17. Avicii feat. Rita Ora - Lonely Together - 2-6-9-19-21-17- I think this has overtaken Without You as the one I prefer now smile.gif
39. ZAYN feat. Sia - Dusk Till Dawn - 39- That's a very low new entry for such a great song! Shame you're not feeling it as much as I am but hopefully it will hit you soon!

Great chart as always biggrin.gif

Hey Mango, thanks very much for commenting! biggrin.gif

1. I didn't see it coming until a few days before I typed this up and I realised how much I'd been playing it! laugh.gif It's my definite favourite but the whole album is really solid, a contender for my album of the year.
3. I feel like they're not getting as much of a push as they should be considering they're actually signed to a major label, it's strange and I do think they have the potential but nobody seems bothered?
14. I do think she's capable of better than Heavy as much as I really love it, but I'm not sure it's gonna do much damage, if any! I hope not anyway, she has soooo much promise drama.gif
17. Great to hear!! Without You is decent but Lonely Together was always my clear fave wub.gif
39. It's a strange one as I definitely like it, but it has little replayability so far for me sad.gif
