Heat #1: Karlstad, Saturday 3rd February
Heat #2: Gothenburg, Saturday 10th February
Heat #3: Malmö, Saturday 17th February
Heat #4: Örnsköldsvik, Saturday 24th February
Second chance round: Kristianstad, Saturday 3rd March
Final: Stockholm, Saturday 10th March

It's the first time Kristianstad will host a Melodifestivalen event.

Tickets for the shows and rehearsals will go on sale 31st October.

Posted by: RobBob 17th October 2017, 05:01 PM

It seems as if David Lindgren will be hosting again, after doing a surprisingly good job last year, unsure who his co-host will be currently.

Posted by: AdamAloud 19th October 2017, 01:00 PM

It seems there's some behind the scenes issues regarding the hosts this year, they've usually been announced for a good 2 or 3 weeks by now.

I didn't mind David this year but he seems an odd choice to go 2 years in a row, he's no Gina Dirawi.

Posted by: AdamAloud 2nd November 2017, 01:07 PM

Confirmed to be David Lindgren alone, the first time Melodifestivalen will have just one host since Petra Mede in 2009.

I hope he spends it licking faces again.

Are we ever NORMALLY this close to artist announcement without there being any rumours whatsoever in the tabloids?! I'm feeling BEREFT!

Anyway, time for the ALL-IMPORTANT ANNUAL WISHLIST *.*

- SaraHa to return with her Blame It On The Disco to Kizunguzungu's Stay the Night, preferably commencing the perf by DESCENDING ONSTAGE ATOP A GIANT PINEAPPLE

- Wiktoria with a literal B*Witched song

- A politicised Dolly Style return to avenge the death of Statements

- Molly Sandén and Danny to finally take their desperation to win Melodifestivalen to its obvious logical conclusion and enter a duet. Said duet must either effectively be a 2018 take on Carola & Andreas Johnson - One Love (with the exact same levels of barely concealed on-stage hatred) or Danny paying tribute to his If Only You animé lesbian years but with Molly on BVs instead of Therese

- Owe Thornqvist - Kalla nätter

- Ace Wilder continuing her track record of each of her entries chronologically tracking the different stages of twentysomething lifestyle (Busy Doin' Nothin' = the just-graduated JSA years, Don't Worry = first job but failing miserably at life, Wild Child = professional stability but so disgusted at what you've become you've taken up a habitual drug problem) and coming back with a mildly obnoxious post-spiritual retreat "I understand the world now and also do yoga on Wednesdays" Holland & Barrett tropical house anthem (co-written by Mariette)

- SOLO ANINIA

- ISA to inherit the earth with a banger finally worthy of her

- Benjamin Ingrosso and Pernilla Wahlgren IN THE SAME HEAT - either with a visibly terrified Ben duetting on a Somethin' Stupid rewrite as his mum breaks Geiger counters across Scandinavia through sheer toxic smugness, or HEAD TO HEAD in the greatest televisual stand-off since the Sandra Dahlberg vs Bjorn Kjellman Globen or Bust (preferably featuring extensive tabloid coverage beforehand featuring quotes along the lines of "when Christer first drew me against my son I was shocked, but now I think it's fine - Ben can still qualify if he finishes second" and ending in a stiff hug, a rictus grin, and the most watched murder trial in Swedish history)

Posted by: Martyn 3rd November 2017, 09:37 PM

I really want to see Ola do it again.

I can See the Molly and Danny duet happening. I hope it doesn't.

Will Eric Saade come back with a oh no wait I do love pop really banger?

Posted by: Qassändra 3rd November 2017, 09:58 PM

I'd be well up for Eric Saade coming back with a transparent rewrite of Bieber/BloodPop - Friends.

Oh YES I had heard that. Still, we normally have at least a FEW MORE names by now to be getting on with. Though given the rigmarole behind the scenes over David Lindgren and the now PHANTOM CO-HOST I'm guessing it isn't exactly plain sailing at the moment CHEZ SVT

As I Lay Me Down was only ever an Irish jig breakdown away from being exactly this!

I feel like she'll do something a bit 'cooler' if she returns again, sadly. Though she has just released a very corny, and therefore brilliant, Xmas single today so you never know.

Posted by: LexC 3rd November 2017, 10:48 PM

I have a hunch that Miss Li is going to try her luck in this with something only a slightly less obvious Sia-rip off than this.

That aside, I feel like Loreen might chance her arm one more time either with something commercial forced on her by the label with her hating every minute or something even more ARTPOP than Statements as an act of pure revenge. And I reckon Maja Keuc/Amaya will be in the mix with that Max Martin-adjacent song she apparently had in the Slovenian NF last year before she got cold feet.

Posted by: Qassändra 3rd November 2017, 10:57 PM

Yes, I reckon Miss Li's going to give it a shot too. Surprised she hasn't sooner after writing Don't Stop Believing.

A couple of people ELSEWHERE appear to have heard a rumour that it may not be the case so I live in hope

Posted by: Aaron. 4th November 2017, 09:21 PM

From last year I'm sure Anton, Benjamin, De Vet Du, FO&O and Nano would give it another shot.
I'd (obviously) love to see Samir & Viktor and Alcazar again. I would also like to see the A*Teens rumour finally come true.
Throw a bunch of acts like Anna Book, Molly Pettersson Hammar, Panetoz, Linus Svenning and Martin Stenmarck and we'd have a real show.

Posted by: AdamAloud 6th November 2017, 05:10 PM

I think we're in for a lot of newbies this year, the past couple of years have been full of recycles (although the Samir och Viktor rumour totally goes against that theory!), however I do think it's high time Sanna returned.

Posted by: Styles Bilinski 6th November 2017, 08:04 PM

Latest rumours from Aftonbladet are returns for Benjamin Ingrosso and DJ Mendez (2nd in 2002, AC in 2003), Felix Sandman (my fave from FO&O) going solo and a debut for Sigrid Bernson who has partnered with both Benjamin and Samir on Let's Dance.

Posted by: Qassändra 6th November 2017, 09:53 PM

Nano won't be back - he's been ACCUSED OF NONCING

Posted by: Cal 18th November 2017, 02:21 PM

Can we have Jon Henrik Fjällgren again just so I can feast on his rustic earthly beauty.

I'm also not over 'Crucified' flopping. It still hurts.

Posted by: AdamAloud 18th November 2017, 03:19 PM

Kamferdrops, Kalle Moraeus and Renaida Braun (6th on Idol 2016) are supposedly in as well.

Posted by: Liаm 18th November 2017, 03:19 PM

Kamferdrops YES

Posted by: AdamAloud 23rd November 2017, 10:17 AM

Full up to date list of rumours:

3. Mendez
4. Benjamin Ingrosso
5. Felix Sandman
6. Sigrid Bernson
7. Ida Redig
8. John Lundvik
9. Olivia Eliasson
10. Kikki Danielsson
11. Martin Almgren
12. Jonas Gardell

14. Kamferdrops
15. Renaida Braun
16. Edward Blom

And on the list of maybes:

Alcazar
Jessica Andersson
Emilia Rydberg Mitiku

All the artists will be announced in a press conference next Tuesday 9:30 Swedish time, so not long to wait for the full list!

Posted by: Liаm 23rd November 2017, 12:26 PM

Here for Sigrid (i get basic af 7th place but amazing anyway vibe off her), Ida, Kamferdrops and Mariette, I think Liamoo could have potential too! Alcazar can stay away or come last in their heat tbqh.

Posted by: Jerick 23rd November 2017, 03:58 PM

Kamferdrops would surely be more likly to participatr in MGP?

Posted by: Styles Bilinski 23rd November 2017, 06:25 PM

I didn't even realise that Kamferdrops isn't Swedish - from the numbers I've seen online, "Jag trodde änglarna fanns" appears to have been a MUCH bigger hit in Sweden than Norway?

And since Krista Siegfrids has been part of the past two editions, I don't see why someone being Norwegian/Finnish/Danish etc. necessarily means they would only do their local selection tongue.gif

Posted by: Martyn 23rd November 2017, 08:02 PM

Come through Jessica Anderson!

Posted by: Ghosty. 23rd November 2017, 08:32 PM

So glad Dotter is rumoured to be entering, I've loved pretty much all of her singles to date (new single Rebellion is out tomorrow), plus she co-wrote A Million Years too - you can really hear her influence on that track.

Posted by: AdamAloud 23rd November 2017, 08:44 PM

Olivia Eliasson could give us a Lisa Ajax type track based on 'Do You' which I like.

And Sigrid Bernson released a track called 'Celebrate' a few weeks ago, which is 3 minutes long, perhaps one of the rejected tracks? Bit basic but an enjoyable bop nonetheless.

Rolandz are a dansband, this year's Bella och Filippa are QUAKING.

http://esctoday.com/153464/sweden-three-acts-rumoured-melodifestivalen-alcazar-not-participating/

Artist annoucement tomorrow at 9:30 CET.
Alcazar apparently received a negative response from the shows producers and aren't participating ohmy.gif
Alcazar is releasing their own announcement tomorrow to let us know what's happening with them in 2018 (hopefully a world tour/18 track album).

Posted by: RobBob 27th November 2017, 11:31 PM

There's a definite lack of big feeling artists, I wonder if they have another shock up their sleeves like they did with Loreen last year.

Wow. Quite a disappointing list.
Poor Mimi, she has no chance in that heat.

Posted by: RobBob 28th November 2017, 01:25 PM

Nothing that's particularly excited me other than confirmation of Samir & Viktor but still, it's always primarily about the songs, it's not like Loreen did it for me personally this year.

Posted by: Ryan. 28th November 2017, 01:30 PM

My heart’s in my cabana ooh na na

Ready for Margaret to win (come 5th in heat) *.*

Posted by: Iz~ 28th November 2017, 01:40 PM

Edward Blom is a Swedish archivist, trade historian, writer and television personality...

hell yes this could be the lovechild of Ravaillacz and Bjorn Ranelid. Rap something about the history of Kopparberg and Baltic trade wars takk

Posted by: AdamAloud 28th November 2017, 01:58 PM

The fact there's a lot less established acts this year than the past few, should make for a more exciting competition, it was quite obvious that Robin, Wiktoria, Ace, Mariette, Jon Henrik etc. would qualify this year (I suppose Loreen was the surprise act in more ways than one!) And like Rob says it's always about the songs, Christer will be DETERMINED to get that 7th Eurovision win before he retires in 2021.

Posted by: danVember 28th November 2017, 03:02 PM

I am definitely here for Kamferdrops if their song is as good as Jag Trodde Änglarna Fanns.

Posted by: Liаm 28th November 2017, 04:16 PM

Really disappointing line-up, the big ones for me are Kamferdrops, Margaret and Marriette. I'm assuming this year there'll be lot s of newbies or lesser knowns making their mark with brill songs, as last year was a lot about the returnees.

Posted by: Lee_J11 28th November 2017, 04:51 PM

Wow, a little underwhelmed I must say but who knows, there could be a few newbies that amaze wub.gif

Here for the 'M' holy trinity though - Mimi, Margaret and Mariette *_*

Posted by: Martyn 28th November 2017, 06:02 PM

Yes for Jessica Andersson.

Posted by: JosephStyles 28th November 2017, 06:02 PM

He is too busy singing Swedish love songs about being straight and in love to Molly.

omg i am SO excited for kamferdrops! sigrid bernson could really deliver something too. i think it's quite funny the former has been drawn in a heat with kikki after covering her song and making it a massive Swedish hit.

Dance You Off feels like it’s not consensual.

Posted by: Styles Bilinski 23rd January 2018, 11:40 AM

They're making a slight change to the voting this year, with the jury votes being true Eurovision style rather than just a top 7 as it has been. The number of televote points dished out will thus increase to 638 to keep it 50/50 and they hope this will be a shift in the direction of the public having a little more power.

Posted by: LexC 23rd January 2018, 06:51 PM

True, but the app will mean the difference in scores between any two songs will still be pretty minimal. Still means that if the juries go crazy for one song in particular then it's pretty unstoppable.

I mean, good, the app always suggests casual voting to me and that's been a big factor in why the last few Melfests have felt both predictable and worse for quality. I'd personally put juries in the heats to try and get a shakeup so that the last song with a big name isn't ALWAYS going Direkt (Benjamin Ingrosso needs to start celebrating his overall 4th place with his inevitably awful song already).
