BOP.

Posted by: lewistgreen Aug 8 2017, 05:37 PM

Yeah really loving this right now. It's getting a lot of support from Radio 1's Dance DJs which is no surprise!

Posted by: BridgeCow Aug 8 2017, 07:46 PM

Yeah this is such a tune music.gif

Posted by: mdh Aug 8 2017, 08:05 PM

tuuuune wub.gif

Posted by: Dobbo Aug 19 2017, 05:50 PM

This is so dull imo, saw it sneaked into the Dance top 40 but meh... what a disappointment.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds Aug 19 2017, 05:55 PM

I quite like this! Would love something like this to chart officially biggrin.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Aug 20 2017, 11:12 PM

Like this, creeping up the iTunes chart!

Posted by: djquavdemon Aug 29 2017, 09:27 PM

bop of the Summer 2k17 nights! happy.gif nobody can stay away from these distinctive beats.
it would be so nice if it can climb up to the general top 100.

Posted by: danG Sep 1 2017, 07:54 AM

Loving this! And it's in the top 100 in the midweeks so should become an official chart hit too!!

Posted by: Big Hiss Machine Sep 9 2017, 07:27 PM

I am actually starting to like this, the dark atmospheric style of production reminds me a bit of the likes of 'Safe from Harm' by Narcotic Thrust from 2002.

'Cola' is let down by the vocal though which I don't like much.

The vocal's what makes it for me actually! It's that style of vocal that would usually never even touch the chart, and having a random lady singing over it would just ruin it for me sad.gif

Posted by: jessie j Oct 6 2017, 06:53 AM

yeah, the chilled, relaxed male vocal is great - the song wouldn't be the same if there were big female vocals.

Posted by: Spun's Labyrinth Oct 6 2017, 08:16 AM

Nah this sounds too bland for me

Posted by: jessie j Oct 6 2017, 09:48 PM

looks like this will enter the top 40 next week cheer.gif

Posted by: jase. Oct 6 2017, 11:45 PM

this is a bit dull and lifeless sad.gif

Posted by: JOTA Oct 20 2017, 12:31 PM

Finally a proper music LcNXG-6SqWA

Posted by: The Cownjuring Oct 20 2017, 01:59 PM

um, idk about that video, I guess it kinda feels a bit too bright for the vibe of the song?

Yep I agree although with this sort of production and a better vocal from a vocalist like Kelli Leigh it could have turned into something more interesting like the song 'Safe From Harm' by Narcotic Thrust which I mentioned, which instrumentally is not a million miles away from 'Cola' in style I think!

The vocal that is on Cola really is very boring and emotionless I think sleep.gif although I assume it is supposed to be 'cool' and underground' sounding.

Posted by: LewisTScream Oct 20 2017, 06:12 PM

^ it's not boring. It's just a different and unexpected vocal

Posted by: The Cownjuring Oct 20 2017, 07:19 PM

Yeah I don't find the vocal boring either, the way it's sung makes it so incredibly catchy and addicting imo, it's like 60% of what makes the song so great for me

Posted by: Klumpkin Oct 20 2017, 07:29 PM

When I first heard the vocal I thought nothing of it! It just suits the track and compliments the dark vibes going on so I think it's pretty good!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Oct 20 2017, 10:04 PM

It took a few listens, but I'm really growing to love this! wub.gif

Posted by: HobDoblin Oct 21 2017, 10:14 AM

Actually one of the worst songs I've heard all year. So dull & monotonous.

Posted by: DANKENSTEIN Oct 23 2017, 08:49 PM

A bit late but I just found out in another area of the forum from Snakey that Mike Di Scala of CamelPhat was the vocalist for Ultrabeat ohmy.gif

He also had a #29 hit as part of production group Rezonance Q in 2003 with 'Someday'.

Posted by: jase. Oct 23 2017, 08:51 PM

This is growing on me now.

Posted by: Lenny Oct 24 2017, 07:40 AM

I think this will take a few listens. I cannot imagine this being received well in a DJ set right now.

Posted by: DANKENSTEIN Oct 24 2017, 07:49 AM

It was the most popular/shazamed track of Ibiza summer 2017 though apparently!

Really?? I worry I’m getting so out of touch with it this year. Will give it a spin this weekend and gauge reaction...

Posted by: DANKENSTEIN Oct 24 2017, 09:58 AM

I reckon it does go down well unless your crowd are only into the really mainstream dance pop music.

Remixes now available from Franky Rizardo and Mousse T.(!)

And I found out from the week of Suedehead's chart commentary that 'Cola' entered the top 40 that Mike Di Scala was in CamelPhat, and knew I had heard of him before so I googled his name.

Posted by: Hissin🎇Sparkler Oct 28 2017, 02:54 PM

Oh my the Mousse T one is good instrumentally but I still don't like that boring vocal sad.gif

Oh my gosh that is definitely one of the cheesiest UK chart hits ever but good fun and very nostalgic to listen to now, although I wouldn't have liked it back then for being too cheesy. Was another of those many eurotrance covers of old songs that seemed to be around at the time.

Posted by: lewistgreen Nov 12 2017, 02:23 PM

More remixes out now

Posted by: Snow❄Diploughmat Dec 8 2017, 02:57 PM

Changed my mind about this, I like it now. The instrumental is very dark and almost a bit progressive trance reminiscent too with some of the synths in the buildup.

The lyrics are very dark too apparently about somebody whose drink has been spiked. So I guess the singing style I criticised before in the song is appropriate for the dark lyrics.
