Find your freedom in the music, find your Jesus, find your Kubrick 02. Dance in the Dark 9.4844 In second place it's the ALBUM TRACK from Gaga's extended EP following on from the debut album. Yes, Dance in the Dark has outdone even my wildest expectations and taken home the silver medal, a very, very worthy position (and a long way ahead of the #3 song!) for a non-single. So why has this song done so well... well it's pretty clear. It's one of the most exciting, dark, heart-breaking, energetic songs that Gaga has put her name to. Structurally it's a pretty standard song, featuring intense production, Gaga's distinct vocals and a beautiful message of mistrust, loneliness and sorrow all concocted together in a dance-pop, thrilling package. The song deals with issues of insecurity (sexual and personal) and uses the metaphor of being alone in a room filled with people but owning it and grooving through the solitude. A strong choice of potential single (it was pushed as a digital single in some countries) but for every other region it remained a concealed gem and a diamond in the darkness. As a result of this, it certainly has not been overexposed and instead has matured into a firm favourite for many listeners, including on this forum! And I haven't even mentioned the middle-8 <3 A personal response... I am ECSTATIC about this. Even with Gaga out of the picture, this is my favourite ever song, bar none. A special moment. ... I'm a free bitch, baby 01. Bad Romance 9.6061 Which means it's done it again. The winner of seemingly every award on this website let alone in the Gaga forum. Gaga's most iconic single, in so many ways steals the victory with a comfortable lead and a mightily impressive score. Bad Romance was the lead single from 'The Fame Monster' and came at the peak of Gaga's fame. Following on from the huge debut era, Gaga needed a song to show that she wasn't just a one-trick pony and she did it and then some with this. It begins with the monstrous cry, a moment of sheer ecstasy and bliss whenever it plays and it's instantly clear that Gaga has arrived and she is summoning her monsters. With haunting, horrific verses to shrieking, ear-shattering choruses, to a fiercely, fabulous middle-8 the song HAS IT ALL. It's always an experience and never boring. The music video was iconic too and while introducing the BATH HAUS it showed every other pop star going just HOW to do the music video. It made headlines everywhere, amassing humongous views on Youtube, stealing awards left right and centre i(most particularly at the VMAs where it was nominated for TEN awards, taking home 7 of them ) and showcasing her brilliant visionary artistry. A humongous single too, peaking in the top 3 basically everywhere and becoming a huge monster seller across the globe. It cemented her position on top of the pop throne and remains to this day a hugely important, iconic and masterful moment of pop. A true MONSTER in every single way. |

DITD waaay too high.
And since when has it had a video?! Monster and Teeth are better. DITD is kinda Steps-lite tbh!! You can see how it leads into the cheesy Born This Way. Better video than Alejandro though even if I've never seen it!! |

Thanks for this, had a blast, 'Bad Romance' is a very worthy winner and totally shocked at 'Dance In The Dark' at #2, definitely her biggest missed opportunity. Dunno why she didn't just release this after 'Bad Romance', 'Telephone' & 'Alejandro' they were all successful enough to squeeze another single out and this definitely would have become another smash hit for her.
Also really glad that 'Do What U Want' did so well here, definitely the best track on 'Artpop' and probably my alltime fave single of hers, along with 'Just Dance' & 'Bad Romance'. |

My theory on the DITD non-release is that she didn't want it to overshadow the release of 'Born This Way' (song). When you think about it DITD and BTW are quite similar songs structurally and lyrically and releasing them one after the other may have lessened the impact of the latter. (Take note Michael I am not saying they sound the same - DITD is not Steps-lite cheese!!1 its more their similar structures and the middle-8s etc).
Also she timed the reveal of the BTW album at the VMAs and wanted the song around Grammy season so another release may have ruined this time schedule. Or maybe she didn't want to be even more overexposed before BTW came. But whatever the reason, in a way it's good it remained an album track because it will forever be untainted and left as a pure, untouched moment in her discography. |

Only just caught up with the rest of this #toomuchofaloungehoe
'Bad Romance' does seem like the "correct" winner, of course it was gonna do it. And I'm certainly pleased, it really is "always an experience" like Haus said! 'Dance in the Dark' being second is nice too, I knew Buzzjack loved it (as do I) and it's great to see it come so high. Would've loved to see 'Alejandro' higher, it's one of my favourites and I much prefer it to 'Do What U Want' (which came higher) for instance, which I've grown in my affections to, but it still doesn't do as much for me as a lot of her other sangs. Thanks 'Hotti' () for hosting and you guys did a fab set of commentary as well! Oh yeah and Cameron's comment gave me a bit of life as well lol |
