Afternoon all hi.gif bloody hell at Mariah looking set to re-enter the top 40 already. I refuse to embrace this until December x

Retro top 3s:

2016
01. Clean Bandit feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie - 'Rockabye'
02. The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk - 'Starboy'
03. Rae Sremmurd feat. Gucci Mane - 'Black Beatles'

A year since the mannequin challenge was in vogue and Rae Sremmurd released a listenable song *.* kink.gif 'Black Beatles' is so good, I wish it had been less of a flash in the pan success that accompanied a fad and instead had held up better in the top 40 in subsequent weeks.

2012
01. Olly Murs feat. Flo Rida - 'Troublemaker'
02. PSY - 'Gangnam Style'
03. Gabrielle Aplin - 'The Power of Love'

I feel like Olly was at his commercial peak here with the multi-week smash that was 'Troublemaker' *.* I love Girls Aloud but 'Something New' would rank 4th this week for me, I found it annoying for years but then it randomly clicked with me laugh.gif 'The Power of Love' is a really pleasant cover that makes me feel Christmassy. <3

2007
01. Girls Aloud - 'Call The Shots'
02. Take That - 'Rule The World'
03. Kylie Minogue - '2 Hearts'

Now this is more like it in terms of Girls Aloud quality *.* 'Call The Shots' is such a magnificently crafted pop song. The 'Tangled Up' era was incredible in general really. <3 I feel like '2 Hearts' gets too much flack on here, I have always really warmed to it and found it much better than the follow-up 'Wow'.

2002
01. Las Ketchup - 'The Ketchup Song (Aserejé)'
02. Christina Aguilera feat. Redman - 'Dirrty'
03. Sugababes - 'Stronger'/'Angels With Dirty Faces'

That dirty impact for 2 and 3. 'Dirrty' is Christina's career peak for me, one of the best $lut jams out there *.* I can't believe it only scraped the top 50 in the US. Love the 'Stronger'/'Angels With Dirty Faces' double A-side too, that Sugababes era was incredible and reminds me of my childhood so much.

1997
01. The Prodigy - 'Smack My Bitch Up'
02. All Saints - 'Never Ever'
03. Various Artists - 'Perfect Day'

All-new top 3 this week (although it probably helps that I wasn't around to comment for the chart last week kink.gif) - The Prodigy served so many bangers in the 90s and this was no exception! 'Never Ever' seems like such an idiosyncratic girl-group moment, particularly the long intro, but it totally worked. They'd top it for me with 'Pure Shores' however! Then 'Perfect Day' is one of the best charity covers out there, it's a shame that's not on Spotify.

Favourite song this week from the retros: Girls Aloud - 'Call The Shots' heart.gif

The Thing About Love
Trouble | 2017

Information

Released: 17th November 2017
Label: Simco

Biography

Singer Matt Terry rose to fame as the winner of the 13th series of The X Factor in the U.K. He grew up in the London borough of Bromley, and attended the D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Kent. Before he could utilize the skills he learned there to his full potential, Terry became a waiter. Following the breakup of a relationship he quit his job, and made an application to the talent show. His performance of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" earned him a place in the show's Boot Camp. He went on to win the competition, and followed that achievement with a number three hit U.K. single. His debut song, "When Christmas Comes Around," was written by Ed Sheeran, and made him only the second X Factor contestant to release an original winner's single. After these successes he went on to sign to RCA Records. - iTunes

Stefflon Don & Skepta
Ding-A-Ling
-

Information

On a bold and assured single, UK rap queen Stefflon Don repurposes the hook from Chuck Berry’s suggestive “My Ding-A-Ling” for a fierce, bass-heavy anthem of empowerment. Skepta’s on board for a verse, sounding typically muscular while paying fond tribute to a girlfriend, but Steff’s fluid, commanding flow refuses to be overshadowed. - iTunes

Released: 16th November 2017
Label: Polydor Records

Biography

Stefflon Don
Dancehall/rap artist Stephanie Allen (aka Stefflon Don) switches between dancehall patois, grime verses, and honeyed vocals with ease and confidence. Originally born in Birmingham to Jamaican parents, Allen moved to the Netherlands when she was five years old. Her family remained in Holland for nine years before moving to Clapton, East London when she was 14. As Allen grew older she knew she wanted to pursue music, taking on the initial strategy of covering other artists' work and spinning it in new directions; the first two efforts that gained traction came in 2015, when Allen covered Wretch 32's "Six Words" and Section Boyz's "Lock Arff." As Allen became more popular, she collaborated with a number of prominent artists including Lethal Bizzle, Sneakbo, Jeremih, and Wretch 32 on his 2016 album Growing Over Life. 2016 also saw the release of her debut mixtape, Real Ting, which featured Jeremih returning the favor as a guest artist. As 2016 drew to a close, Stefflon Don was highlighted on the BBC's Sound of 2017 list. The following year, Allen signed to Universal Music, which created a new subsidiary -- 54 London -- and made her the first signee. - iTunes

Skepta
Joseph Junior Adenuga (born 19 September 1982), better known by his stage name Skepta, is an English grime artist, rapper, songwriter, record producer and music video director. Adenuga released his debut studio album Greatest Hits in late-2007 and his second, Microphone Champion in 2009, both independently, while his third studio album Doin' It Again was released in 2011 by AATW. His fourth studio album, Konnichiwa, was released on 6 May 2016 to critical acclaim, winning that year's Mercury Prize. Skepta's brother, and labelmate is the well known grime artist Jme. They have collaborated many times, most recently on his album Konnichiwa.

Adenuga has stated ‘DIY’ music is the future and told Time Out magazine, "I’m not a rapper. I’m an activist." His influence on contemporary British popular culture as a key figure in the grime scene saw him appear on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in the UK.

'Ding-A-Ling' is a late contender for my worst song of the year. So happy that it has rightfully bombed so far.

Good to see that boring as hell Matt Terry song isn't going top 40, and the shocker that is 'Ding-A-Ling' is flopping also.

Hoping for all those potential new entries to make it in, and perhaps new Luis Fonsi could scrape in too? Lawd at Mariah already entering the top 40 when it's not even December though, I love the song but it's too early!!

Biography

Sir Robert Bryson Hall II (born January 22, 1990), known by his stage name Logic, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Logic expressed an interest in music as a teenager, and ventured into a musical career in early 2009, releasing a mixtape titled Young, Broke & Infamous in 2010. He signed with Visionary Music Group, before releasing two more mixtapes over two years.

His fourth mixtape, Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever (2013), was released to critical acclaim, and allowed Logic to secure a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings. He later released his debut studio album Under Pressure in October 2014, which debuted at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200, eventually becoming certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and having sold more than 171,000 copies.

Logic's second studio album The Incredible True Story was released in November 2015, receiving mostly positive reviews from critics. Also certified gold in the U.S., it sold over 185,000 copies. Logic released his fifth mixtape, Bobby Tarantino, in 2016.

In May 2017, Logic released his third studio album Everybody. His first album to do so, Everybody debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 247,000 album-equivalent units, of which 196,000 were pure album sales. The album spawned Logic's first internationally renowned hit, "1-800-273-8255", which reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA.

Lmao I was about to say "what a welcome re-entry" until I realised that was a gaffe kink.gif perfect start to the chart show anyway as '1-800-273-8255' is one of my favourite songs of the year, still sounding as stunning as ever heart.gif

French made his mixtape debut in 2007, and released his debut studio album Excuse My French on May 21, 2013. In 2003, he survived a gunshot to the head. Allegedly blackballed by radio and media in his earlier career stemming from his stint with Max B, in 2010, he had his breakthrough with "Choppa Choppa Down".

In July 2017, Montana released his sophomore studio album, Jungle Rules, which peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard 200. The album was supported by the single "Unforgettable", featuring Swae Lee, which became Montana's first song as lead artist to reach the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Biography

Eschewing an academic career in favor of music, Hackney, East London born and bred rapper Not3s put all his time and effort into developing his career, rising from online obscurity to being signed by a major label in a relatively short time. Drawing inspiration not only from his local underground grime scene but also his Nigerian heritage, Not3s helped push the sound of Afro-bashment to a new level with the release of the track "Addison Lee" in early 2017. Racking up a huge amount of online views, the track was picked up by Relentless Records (home to Professor Green and Nadia Rose), which issued the release as Not3s' debut single a few months later. Two follow-up tracks, "Notice" and "Aladdin," appeared soon after. - iTunes
