BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ DJ Khaled - Father Of Asahd

Posted by: danG 24th July 2018, 03:21 PM

Yes the album really is called 'Father Of Asahd' :')

We're finally getting the Bieber collab though, this Friday. Could challenge for #1, though it'll have to be really big to topple Drake. Excitement.

Posted by: Botchia 💡 24th July 2018, 06:20 PM

That album title :')

Posted by: ML Hammer95 26th July 2018, 08:24 AM

Hope the song this Friday lives up to expectations... 'I'm The One' managed to age as soon as September came along last year and 'Top Off' was a mess.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 27th July 2018, 07:48 AM

The Bieber collab has been B-Listed by Radio 1 instantly. Whether that is hype or genuine quality we will find out at midday.

Premiering at 5pm on Beats 1.

“No Brainer” still hasn’t been released despite being playlisted by R1

It's out at 6pm.

Im disappointed. It's an actual mess. Where is the melody of 'Wild Thoughts'/'I'm The One'? sad.gif

WE THE BEST MUSIC

DJ KHALED

I rest my case.

Posted by: Dexton 27th July 2018, 05:30 PM

Oh this won’t be a #1 tongue.gif I like it but I’m The One was way better despite Lil Wayne

Posted by: hlavkus 27th July 2018, 06:08 PM

It's not as instant as "I'm the One" but it's definitely growing on me

Posted by: ML Hammer95 27th July 2018, 06:11 PM

It sounds like a mix of 'I'm the One' and Natalie La Rose's 'Somebody'. The beat stuck in my head on first listen (debatable if that's good or bad).

Not as instant as 'I'm the One' but that got old quickly. I suspect this will be a grower, but won't have the same impact (or be commonly remembered in years to come).

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th July 2018, 07:52 PM

I quite like it, it's quite catchy, and it's better than I'm the One.

I could do without Quavo's bit, but luckily it's only short.

Posted by: danG 27th July 2018, 10:09 PM

not quite as good as I'm the One but I wasn't expecting it to be, I'll take it. no way is it a #1 contender though not with Sir Drake still big as ever.

Posted by: mdh 28th July 2018, 03:47 PM

Aside from Quavo's part, I'm surprisingly really enjoying this. Chance's part is great and the production is pretty funky.

DJ Khaled has said that this is his best album to date and that it will be released in May

DJ Khaled is essentially this generation's Fatman Scoop (i.e. an annoying, shouty, talentless twat).

That’s being very kind!

Also "Be Faithful" is aces

What took him so long to announce anything then? And still no single announcement, 'No Brainer' feels like forever ago.

Posted by: Theonix 17th May 2019, 07:11 AM

So this was released today:

Just Us and Celebrate have been added straight to Today's Top Hits so I imagine they'll push both on Spotify before deciding on the single

Posted by: Theonix 17th May 2019, 01:14 PM

I'm listening through at the moment and this is a terrible album mellow.gif Only Just Us is listenable so far, and that's mainly down to SZA. The sample of So Freakin Tight is dire

Posted by: Mack. 28th May 2019, 12:29 PM

I notice that in the video for 'Jealous', Chris Brown is doing a Nelly with a plaster on his cheek. 'Jealous' it's all right but it's no 'I'm The One' from DJ Khaled.

It annoys me how he has to always feature in his videos and do random shout-outs and endless tags for himself. I get that he's a producer but it's just so distracting and cringey watching him just stand around and shout "DJ KHALEDDDD" in every video. We know you produced it. We know what you look like. Just let the vocalists do their thing?

A lot of the time this isn't true though laugh.gif

What does he actually even do then? laugh.gif

Posted by: Bjork 29th May 2019, 01:53 PM

guess he's producer too

but really wish he stopped with the shouting nonsense, I always skip his songs on playlists like NMF or HH cos of that, it's pretty idiotic imho to keep shouting "we the best music" or "another one" in every song, and not just at the start, in the middle of the song too

I think a lot of the time it's that he's the curator of bringing all these big name artists together, as a label boss/influencer with a lot of connections. And I guess say what you will about his ad libs and whatnot, but there's an established brand, and he gets hits.

I did have a laugh when I was listening to his new chart entries last weekend, track 2 "Wish Wish" ends with 'another one', and then 5 seconds into track 3 "Jealous" is the very same 'another one', like there's no illusion of an album that's meant to be listened to as a cohesive product laugh.gif

Khaled is essentially more like a marketer than a musician, and he's been very successful at marketing by basically turning his entire life and personality into a huge meme.

For what it's worth he is credited as a producer on every song on this album. So maybe he's doing something somewhere.
