Dexton's Top 40 (10/07/2018) (Week 61)



A non-Panic! #1 this week! Blonde earns their first #1 hit here and first ever charting single surprisingly with Me, Myself & I featuring Bryn Christopher entering right at the top of the chart. Bryn may be recognised as the vocalist from Sigala's Sweet Lovin' which is 3 years old this year! British singer Ella Mai released a remix of her breaththrough single Boo'd Up last week featuring Nicki Minaj & Quavo, which debuts here at #2. Boo'd Up almost entered the chart a few weeks ago and has now given all three artists involved their highest charting single to date. Boo'd Up charts here both as this official remix version and the original, which is also gaining listens (a similar situation to Khalid's Location which reached #2 a few months ago thanks a remix featuring Jorja Smith & Wretch 32). Panic! At The Disco's Hey Look Ma, I Made It (1-3) and High Hopes (2-4), as well as Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B (3-5) all slip a few places to make room for the new entries.

Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (8-7) spends another week in the Top 10, and I realise I've been listing the features the wrong way around all this time It's too late to change now (not that it really matters) but a funny observation. I Like It is helped by the newly released Dillon Francis Remix which, whilst does not have a patch on the original, is nice enough to help it's original out. Cardi B joins George Ezra as one of the most surprisingly chart presences of the year so far although she is yet to reach the #1 position. Elsewhere Jonas Blue earns his first Top 10 hit with Rise featuring Jack & Jack rising to #10, just beating Cheat Codes & Little Mix's Only You (15-11). Only You gives Cheat Codes their second #11-peaking song after their joint remix with Cade of Maggie Lindemann's Pretty Girl. Will Only You give them all another Top 10 hit next week?

Other exciting new entries in the chart include Tiësto & Dzeko's Jackie Chan featuring Preme & Post Malone (#22), Justin Timberlake's SoulMate (#25), and MNEK's Colour featuring Hailee Steinfeld (#39). Jackie Chan is the first chart appearance for any of their artists bar Post Malone, who grabs his 5th Top 30 hit. SoulMate is a non-album single released by JT and has a nice relaxing summery vibe to it, although doesn't quite match the heights of his Man Of The Woods album (#9). MNEK and Hailee Steinfeld both make their second chart appearance in history: MNEK featured on Stormzy's Blinded By Your Grace, Pt.2 which made it to #4 last year, and Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso's Let Me Go featuring Florida Georgia Line & Watt which funnily enough also peaked at #4 In an exciting turn of events there are also two re-entries! Pink's Whatever You Want previously dropped out of the chart after peaking at just #33, but re-enters this week at #20. Pink is currently touring Australia so radio has been hammering a lot of her releases, include this which has grown on me a lot thus giving Pink her 4th consecutive Top 20 hit. Taylor Swift is also back although hasn't quite re-peaked, with Delicate back in at #26 boosted hugely by the Seeb Remix which has only just hit me. I also heard the original version on the radio last weekend whilst driving my sisters car which helped in getting me back into it. I don't listen to radio all that often, but when I do, it shows in my chart

Who is climbing this week, you ask? Panic! edge closer to having three songs in the Top 10 at once with King Of The Clouds (17-14), whilst Sigala, Fuse ODG, & Sean Paul enter the Top 20 with Feels Like Home featuring Kent Jones (23-16). Sean Paul is in the Top 20 for the first time since featuring on Enrique Iglesias' Subeme Le Radio with Matt Terry which peaked at #4 and also comes close to winning the award for most-forgettable Top 10 hit of 2017. Sigala grabs his second Top 20 hit after his Ella Eyre collaboration Came Here For Love spent two weeks at #7 this time last year. Nicki Minaj's Bed featuring Ariana Grande (21-19) gives Ariana her 5th Top 20 single and Nicki her 4th, with Nicki's 3rd only just being earned this week of course on Ella Mai's Boo'd Up.

Hopping over to the album chart we see a bit of symmetry with two re-entries here too, one being Paramore's After Laughter at #5 and then Pink's Beautiful Trauma at #6. Panic! At The Disco hold on (very) strong to their #1 spot at Pray For The Wicked spends a third week there, blocking yet another new album from #1! Years & Years unfortunately miss out on their first #1 album for now as Palo Santo enters at #2, supported by the hit singles Sanctify, If You're Over Me, and All For You. Gorillaz are back in the album chart with their latest album The Now Now, follow-up to last years Humanz an lead by Humility which debuted at #4 here. I'm less impressed with The Now Now than I was Humanz although it's a nice enough album to warrant a listen. Humilty is an obvious highlight although Hollywood and Idaho are good too.
