Pushing back the start of the results to 8:30 as I'm not quite ready with the prep yet (just 4 more posts left to write up!) - stay tuned ~ results should go on for about 2 hours. Perhaps a good excuse to whack on the Spotify playlist again in the background as you watch the results unfold

Any predictions? I can exclusively confirm #leaks that we don't have a runaway winner, a good handful of different songs get their turn at #1 on the running scoreboards and it was still flipping between the ultimate contenders right up to the last couple of votes! Happy that we did get a full house of voters to ensure that our eventual winner is definitive x

hyping the Cassandra Jenkins entry, it felt like a more mellow female equivalent to Black Country New Road (which probably means it won't appeal to anyone but me)

I'd expected Wolfclub to be a landslide winner, but i guess not? still pretty sure it'll win though

Looking forward to the results! Glad there's a full house of voters too (or indeed an overflowing one!)

Aeroplane Jane has become iconic, would be cool to see it do well here. Very interesting that there isn't a runaway winner, should keep things entertaining throughout!

Anna Ternheim - Lovers Dream (feat. Fyfe Dangerfield)

Despite taking a full week after the thread went up to deliver votes, first-time Nuggets participant Ghosty nonetheless is our earlybird of the contest so we kick off proceedings revealing his entry to come from Swedish 'anti-folk' singer Anna Ternheim, with a little help from a feature slot from English musician Fyfe Dangerfield of Guillemots fame - one of the more recognisable names in the contest thanks to his success both with his band and with his solo release 'She's Always A Woman' which made the UK top 10 in 2010 - but will that translate to Nuggets success? Stay tuned to find out.

Dalriada - Őszi Ének

Frank is up next and in a classic Nuggets shock, I'm sure absolutely no one would have ever predicted he'd be the one sending the Hungarian act! He is represented by folk metal band Dalriada, who got off to a great start getting a medal position from the first voter. Let's see how far Frank's own votes push his song down.

Following our second vote, we actually have a dead tie for first place as two songs have each got a 12 pointer and a 3 pointer - The Joy Formidable taking the 12 here to tie with THE HARDKISS. (Pretend it doesn't say The Joy Formidable are 2nd, I couldn't be bothered to iron out these edge cases). Manchester Orchestra move up to 3rd place, One Night Only hold in 4th and Seven Spires zoom from 0 points to 5th place. Frank lifts 5 songs off 0 points, 14 to go (unfortunately including Ghosty as Frank doesn't repay the favour).

Miss Grit - Impostor

Next up we have Harry with Korean-American singer Miss Grit, with her song that may or may not have been inspired by Among Us. I'm proud of her for spelling the word 'impostor' correctly. This song went down pretty well on Synctube, Harry hasn't always had much luck in the song contests but could this one be a hit for him? From the limited returns we have so far he sits just inside the top 10.

Another 6 songs get off the 0 point mark leaving 8 yet to score (still including Ghosty).

Making a return to Nuggets after entering the first two editions but no others since, it's a welcome back to Severin who has made his comeback with English alternative rock band Kid Kapichi, whose debut album appeared in the UK midweek charts the other week (though fell short of the final chart). So far the song, which also opened up the running order of the contest, has only picked up one point but there's of course plenty of votes to come yet.

No points to THE HARDKISS for the first time, but they remain in the lead, 6 points ahead of The Joy Formidable who climb back to 2nd place. Seven Spires slip to 3rd, while W O L F C L U B rise into the top 5 for the first time at #4 as do Soda Stereo up to 5th. Yard Act jump off the 0 point mark in style picking up a 12 here, while 2 others also get off the mark, including at last Ghosty (also getting a medal position) meaning everyone whose entry has been revealed so far is on the board now, only 5 songs yet to score.

The top 2 are tied in points again although this time there is actually a tiebreak in place - THE HARDKISS again pick up no points but remain in first while W O L F C L U B get their first 12, moving up to second place (the top 2 both have three votes so far but THE HARDKISS have two 12s). The Joy Formidable drop to #3 again, Seven Spires also fall a place to 4th and big points move Miss Grit to the top 5 for the first time at #5. Jade is kind enough to lift another three songs off 0 leaving only two songs on nul points (perhaps surprisingly(?) including the meme legend of the contest Karen Zoid).

Mute Swan - Life-Like Dream

I'm up next (I had to announce my votes right after Jade's obvz x) and my own entry was a last minute replacement for an already last minute entry which I decided to cart off to BJSC instead. Ending up representing me in Nuggets then was Arizona shoegaze / psychedelic / post-punk band Mute Swan with this dreamy 6 minute ditty. I was under no illusions this would come close to giving me a second win on the trot and indeed it took me until the 5th vote to get off 0 points (naturally it was Jade who finally got me off the mark, thank you muchly <3), I currently sit in the low top 20.

The tie action heats up further as the top 3 now all have the same number of points - I didn't vote for either of the current top 2 but I did give enough points to The Joy Formidable for them to join the fray and jump into first place (having 4 votes to the 3 votes each for THE HARDKISS and W O L F C L U B who recede to 2nd and 3rd). I also push Dalriada back up to #4 again and Soda Stereo back up to #5, while providing a first 12 for Cassandra Jenkins pushing her into the top 10. Two songs remain on 0.

Now my own votes have been announced I can reveal that two of my top 3 have already been unmasked - a big yas to FrankLuck and Jade who both brought some memorable and awesome tunes this month, also really enjoyed Harry's lovely entry.

Frozen Night and PrinceWhateverer - Lunar Eclipse III (feat. Holly Frances Royle and Andra Stefan)

Providing the longest song of the contest (on the Spotify playlist anyway, one other song had a longer video on YouTube), Chez is behind this entry from Illinois soundtrack composer Frozen Night alongside his cast of thousands including English brony musician PrinceWhateverer (I totally didn't realise this was a brony song but hey the bronies make some good music and this is no exception x). This one is off to a decent start currently just outside the top 10.

The tie is broken as Chez gives The Joy Formidable their second 12 of the night, pushing them into a clear first place. 11 points behind is Cassandra Jenkins who's had three medal positions in a row (that #terrajadaphonia bloc just won't let up) and flies into the top 5 for the first time in 2nd place. The Joy Formidable's place in the three way tie on 27 points is taken by Dalriada who rise back up to #3, knocking THE HARDKISS and W O L F C L U B down to 4th and 5th. Ian Post gets a couple of points here which leaves Karen Zoid as the last act on 0 points. At least she makes up for it in sheer memeability and now has the chance to mount the comeback of dreams!!

#terrajadaphonia bloc also shows up in now single-handedly pushing my entry up to 12th place. The taste.

Kath has made her Nuggets debut in ikonek fashion with South African singer Karen Zoid (I'm not sure how more people didn't guess this was Kath after the music video pretty prominently featuring planes flying out of South Africa!) who has been turned into a meme legend already after the Synctube listenthrough. I'm pleasantly surprised no one guessed me instantly on the listening session, that was like the most Chez entry ever I know it had perhaps less guitar than a Nuggets song should have, but I've wanted to send Frozen Night for a while, it is indeed another brony musician and he makes very detailed and thought out concept suites, worth a look if you're into classical/symphonic metal hybrid.

Loved all of that current top 3, I really wanna know who sent Deceptacon as I'd known that for years but could never put a name to it!

coi doesn't change the leader but does significantly cut The Joy Formidable's lead to just one point, as he provides a first 12 to Soda Stereo pushing them up to 2nd place (they've got points from all but one voter so far). W O L F C L U B are pushed back to the top 5 in 3rd, knocking Miss Grit down to 4th, and Dalriada continue their yo-yo in and out of the top 5 climbing back to 5th. And most importantly of all Karen Zoid is finally off 0 (with a medal position and all) so everyone now has points to their name. Rollo was pipped to the longest song of the contest but just had to make up for that somehow, and that was in the form of the video for this track having a lengthy intro making it the longest song on the YouTube playlist. Filling up that airtime for Rollo was Manchester Orchestra who are neither from Manchester (they're from Atlanta) nor an orchestra (they're an indie rock band). They currently place just inside the top 20.

Another one of the more recognisable names in contention, English indie rockers One Night Only are best known for a trio of UK top 40 hits in 2008-2010 (including top 10 hit 'Just For Tonight') but show up in Nuggets with a single from their flop 2015 album, representing Wardy here. One Night Only's renaissance continues as they get a second 12 in a row and rise back into the top 10 at #8.

Some more high points to Mute Swan puts me back in the top 10 at #7 as well - very pleasantly surprised, not getting too many votes but they're high points when they do show up! Soda Stereo get another bump and now take a nice lead of 9 points over The Joy Formidable, are we looking at a debut win for Juan Carlos here? Seven Spires are back up to #3 again pushing Cassandra Jenkins back down to #4, and Addy also avoids foot shooting as THE HARDKISS once again stick in 5th. It's status quo for the top 2 of Soda Stereo and The Joy Formidable who both get no points, Seven Spires draw one point closer while remaining at #3. It's a first 12 to Story Untold who I'm yet to mention in these commentaries but who have been quietly doing rather well for themselves, they now rise to a new high of #6.

A name other than them and The Joy Formidable is finally in the top 2 after they had been trading places for the last ten scoreboards in a row, as Cassandra Jenkins rises back up to #2. Story Untold crack the top 5 for the first time up to #3, pushing The Joy Formidable to 4th and Iz's own entry Seven Spires is unfortunately subject to some foot shooting falling two places to 5th. Iz gives Manchester Orchestra their second 12 which lifts them 6 places to #12.

Moderate foot shooting as blacksquare moves the win a bit further away from himself, Soda Stereo retaking a 4 point lead. Both of the top 2 get points here and hold their positions with Soda Stereo continuing to be resilient at the top spot and Cassandra Jenkins holding at #2. Thanks to everyone who's voted for The Leopard and the Lung, it's great to see it doing so well

They're not a band I'd have attempted to send to previous editions due to their one time dalliances with the chart but they get less with every album and never get spoken about on here so thought an old album track would be safe, it's certainly in my top 5 of theirs (although from their second album Bre )

No points go to either of the top 2 from this vote, Cassandra Jenkins and Soda Stereo holding firm in 1st and 2nd nonetheless. The Joy Formidable remain a formidable challenge to the leaders as they rise back to 3rd, knocking Miss Grit and Mute Swan back to 4th and 5th. Kid Kapichi had a slow start being stuck on just 1 point for some time but have been quietly amassing more points and now get a first 12, rising into the top 20 as a result.

Cassandra Jenkins slightly expands her lead over Soda Stereo to 7 points, while a second 12 for W O L F C L U B sees them finally back in the top 5 after being absent for a while, rising three places back to #3. No points for Cassandra Jenkins but she remains in the lead, now facing a new challenger as W O L F C L U B continue to rack up some serious points in the last few votes, back up to their high water mark of #2 and only four points behind. JSG won the first time I hosted BJSC, can he repeat that trick in my first time hosting Nuggets? Soda Stereo dip to 3rd, leaving the top 2 for the first time in a long time. THE HARDKISS had dipped out of the top 5 for a little while but are back with a vengeance rising 3 places back to #4 after picking up their 4th 12, twice as many as anyone else has managed so far. Story Untold rise back up to #5, pushing out The Joy Formidable also for the first time in quite a while (remember the good old days of them and Soda Stereo battling it out for the top spot?)

Cassandra Jenkins claims her third 12 of the night and gets the first song over the 100 point mark, pushed back out to 11 points clear of the competition! Soda Stereo resume normal service back up to 2nd place after SevenSeize ends another mini points drought for them, pushing W O L F C L U B back down to 3rd. I thank Savan for another mealworm point, which seems to be all Mute Swan are reduced to now. I continue to tread water in the top 10 somehow.

Cassandra Jenkins still retains her lead with two votes to go, though her lead over Soda Stereo is cut to 7 points, and even more dramatically W O L F C L U B lurch to only 8 points behind in 3rd. Frozen Night et al. are still potentially in striking distance for the win (or a Chez classic 2nd place) as they return to the top 5 again at #4, while THE HARDKISS slip back to 5th. Jacob takes another song off the 'no 12s' list providing the first 12 for Told Slant - one of the two songs still yet to be unmasked - which gives them a late bump into the top 20.

And at the end of the day, Cassandra Jenkins gets to win after all as she finishes off in style with a 4th 12 (matching THE HARDKISS for the most of the night, with no other songs managing more than 2), finishing with a 10 point lead over W O L F C L U B with Soda Stereo taking 3rd place, THE HARDKISS in 4th and somehow, somehow, myself getting a second top 5 in a row with Mute Swan taking 5th place (I honestly was expecting bottom 5!)

A massive congratulations to blacksquare on a first Nuggets win and looking forward to you hopefully hosting (and let's hope we don't have to wait until 2022 for that ) I am absolutely thrilled that the recipient of my 12 points managed to win the whole thing in my hosted contest, what an outcome! And especially grateful for dhwe coming in clutch after W O L F C L U B nearly snatched it on the strength of the late voters which would have left a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth even though I always accept late votes (not least because 'Just Drive' didn't make my votes, although it wasn't far off). Also really pleased with the result for Soda Stereo as that was an excellent debut entry from Juan Carlos, and happy to see Frozen Night, Miss Grit and The Joy Formidable all in the top 10 too (though a shame the latter faded so much after looking like a heavy contender for quite a while!) Would have liked to see Rinse & Repeat making a bit more noise but top 20 isn't too bad - better than can be said for my other standout Dalriada who got off to a great start but then the points dried up entirely leaving them in the bottom 5 after all Also disappointed at Ian Post never quite making it to double figures, deserved better </3 but ah wells.

Thanks to all who participanted in another fun edition of Nuggets, very happy once again that we had a full house of votes and of course over the moon with my own result! What a great song to win. In my notes I described as Little Fluffy Clouds meets O Superman meets who knows what which makes for a nice quirky song.

I had Wolfclub pegged for the win so not surprised they came so high.

Congrats to blacksquare. I'm quite happy with my final position, I know my taste isn't typical of the site and thanks for the points to those that did.

Yard Act was comfortably my favourite and even though I knew that and Joy Formidable (among others) they deserved their points from me.

I'd have given points to the Mig 15 trackt but I marked it down for being pretty devoid of guitars. Sorry

Guess I'm the queen of guitars now! Thanks Bré for hosting a great edition — even with that stressful ending.

Usually in these I try and guess what everyone else likes and fail spectacularly, so perhaps sending a song you love actually works. Who knew! I recently moved to a new city in a different country and I've been wandering around and exploring with 'Hard Drive' on constant rotation. I've found it really therapeutic and special, so hopefully some of you have feel similarly. 🤍

I think this is very possibly my favourite Nuggets winner to date (well, excluding my own) - it's the second time my 12 pointer has won I believe, the previous one being Blossoms' 'Charlemagne'. I can only hope Cassandra Jenkins goes on to enjoy as much mainstream relevance.

(both of Jade's winners are up there with my faves as well, would probably put them both ahead of Blossoms even though neither of them quite got my 12 - those 4 and my own are a very clear top 5, most of the others I actually didn't vote for at all)

Congrats blacksquare! Nearly pointed your entry, was really tough to order this one. Lots of my points near the top and honestly with the quality in this contest it'd be hard for the results to go wrong.

A bit :/ on my result but I suppose I'm really familiar with my entry having heard it thousands of times in a game I've played a lot so maybe it just sounds extra banging to me because it's one of those ones I found the artist name for after about a year. And the aforementioned game is a bit of a meme with friends.

It's also on Adobe Premiere adverts so next time you see one of those on YouTube pay attention. x

thanks to everyone who pointed Slow Motion! It's probably one of my favorite Nuggets entries next to Mt. Wolf really loved the punk/neo-punk songs this round, Jupiter coming out with that taste! taking the guy from Sleeping With Sirens and putting him in a track like that was GOLD

Ah, I was doing really well and then my votes came in and I got next to nothing after that Thanks for the points though, that's about what I expected just sending a solid symphonic track (that maybe I should have saved for Séyetana given all the S's but I got entries planned out over there and this was very suitable for Nuggets)

Excellent hosting Bré, that was very fun to read through. Lovely winner, definitely stood out among the pack, glad that won over the track in second which I wasn't such a big fan of, congrats blacksquare. And of course it's the Sleeping With Sirens guy on Jupiter's entry, that was a real standout.

(and nah it's not to do with the archive not being updated, I made a mental note of the list of new/returning participants in this contest but I must have either missed that you were in the previous contest or just forgotten/confused you with someone else, sadly my knowledge of Nuggets history is not as encyclopaedic as my knowledge of BJSC, does not help that the last Nuggets was nearly a year ago x)
