26th February 2017

It's an easy 2nd week on top the legend Katy Perry after that BRITS performance, just fab! That's bad news for Dua Lipa stuck at 2 again, though she has had a recent chart-topper as compensation. French band Paradis shoot smoothly up to 3, classy. John Mayer replaces himself in the top 10, meanwhile with a groovy, jazzy number. Talking of groovy, jazzy numbers, Thundercat is in at 53 (wasn't he a cartoon kids show?) with the help of 70's jazz-rockers Michael "Doobie Brothers" McDonald & Kenny "Loggins & Messina" Loggins. Both popped into my charts in 1979 and through the 80's.

Thanks to that car ad, Nancy Sinatra drives up rapidly over the speed limit to 14 with that fab 60's movie theme tune. I'm following the liberal rights activist and cool legend on twitter, find myself agreeing with everything she posts, and adore the best of her music to boot. Big jumps for Nussy, Fenech-Soler, and REOL, while new in at 34 Chainsmokers & Coldplay launch an unexpected duet at the BRITS, and it's pretty good.

Marc Almond is back on Radio 2 promoting his new single and hits album, and it's good to see him back again lengthening his chart run to 36 years. Lana Del Ray is also back, Love to Lana, ditto Frances, and James "comedy name" Blunt, who now has a Jeremy to take all the heat off him.

Yay for Bakermat - Baby in your top 50 still. My favourite song of the year so far! Being a lively funky house song, it would have made top 40 in the charts if it was released in 2005 or early 2006 I think, sadly not now though sad.gif

Hi jason,

thanks, and doesn't Skip sound a bit like his grandad...!

Ive not heard that Stormzy version of Shape Of You properly, I'm still playing the old one laugh.gif

I'm also surprised Take That is so low, it seems to do all the right things without exciting me.

Chainsmokers n Coldplay is still growing on me, I'm not sure whether it'll be a classic or just merely good/v good yet smile.gif

Love shoulda been her comeback hit, and would have at least gone top 20 under the old sales system, or 40 under the new system if not for Stormzy and Sheeran streaming. Shame!

cheers!

Thanks Pete, it was great seeing Toi Et Moi doing so well, I seriously thought it would be outside the BJSC top 10 as it's quite subtle and low-key. Hope Chainsmokers overhaul Ed at some point, enough Sheeran already, 9 weeks is well overstaying it's welcome (I expect!)

cheers

Thanks for the comment Sultan cool.gif It's a shame Bakermat didn't hit - it's not out of the question it could crossover in Europe and then come back big in 6 months, though I wouldn't put a fiver on it. laugh.gif

cheers

Hi AH thanks for the long list! Marc Almond is usually good, and it's almost an old-stylee 60-s flavoured Marc Almond track. So many of your chartings Ive also not heard, I keep meaning to set aside half an hour to work my way through them, 4 weeks till i'm on holiday and def can do it then, if not before, hooray! cheer.gif

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for the list, and no I didn't know TS wrote Better Man - it's a good song, so I shouldnt be surprised!

Glad u liked Nussy and Kaleidoscope, both stood out for me too in BJSC. Kaneholler was a good choice of entry, though it would have been nice to see a few more votes for it, especially with the catchy chorus. Maybe the naughty word shocked some voters laugh.gif

cheers!
