BuzzJack Music Forum _ Personal Charts _ ThePensmith's Top 20 Singles Chart

Posted by: ThePensmith Feb 7 2020, 09:30 PM

Good evening all, and happy Friday, it's time to check out what my personal top 20 singles are this week. Jonas Brothers have been top of the pile for two weeks now, but can they make it a hattrick today, or will Dua Lipa grab her second chart topper in a row? Here's your answer...

CHART COMMENTARY

Dua Lipa's last single 'Don't Start Now' has been one of the biggest success stories on our chart in the last three months. Released last November, it is still on our chart this week at #20 after thirteen weeks around, including nine weeks inside the top 3 and two different spells at number one.

This week, 'Physical', the follow-up to that single, and second from her forthcoming new album 'Future Nostalgia' was released and repeats the feat, entering straight in at the top and giving her her fifth number one hit, meaning the still strongly performing Jonas Brothers dip to #2.

As The Voice UK's current series continues to run on ITV, one of the show's biggest successes found in its tenure on the BBC returns to our top 5 this week. Becky Hill's latest single 'Better Off Without You' is a collaboration with Shift K3y, and enters at #5, making it her highest charting single since her guest slot on Oliver Heldens' 'Gecko (Overdrive)' topped our chart in 2014, although she has had a further four top 40 hits on our chart since.

Just a few weeks after her fellow I'm A Celebrity campmate Myles Stephenson and the Rak-Su boys returned to the top 10 with recent single 'Girl', Nadine Coyle does likewise with her brand new release 'All That I Know'. Debuting at this week's #8, it also marks the highest position a solo single from the former Girls Aloud star has been at in our chart since her debut 'Insatiable' entered and peaked at #2 almost ten years ago in November 2010.

Andy Brown's debut solo album 'Cedarmont' provided the former Lawson frontman with five top 20 hits, the last of which came as recently as June last year. His most recent single was 'John Travolta', which debuted at #3 last September, but new release 'Worth It'  - the second from his yet to be confirmed second solo LP - fails to enjoy the same success and debuts at #14.

There's equal disappointment for Shakira this week, who might have hoped that her dual headline halftime slot at last weekend's Super Bowl with Jennifer Lopez would have powered her new single 'Me Gusta' to a higher entry point than #15. She is now six years removed from her last top 10 hit on our chart - 'Empire' made #7 in 2014 - and even further from her last number one, 'She Wolf', which hit the top in September 2009.

There's better news however, for jazz and soul singer Gregory Porter, who despite having lots of album success since his UK debut in 2013, only now makes his singles debut on our chart this week, with 'Revival' entering at #17.

FLASHBACK TOP 10

Your chance to see how my personal top 10 was looking on this week in the last 20 years. This week in 1999: over fifteen years after their last hit, Blondie make a comeback in spectacular style with 'Maria', plus classic hits from Armand van Helden, Tatyana Ali and The Offspring
