Margaret for shock #1 plz

Posted by: Ryan. 19th February 2016, 12:05 AM

I see Karen Harding's song actually has been released after about 2 months of constant pushbacks! ohmy.gif I wonder if it is any good?

I do hope Margaret's song gets released here but it seems to be a Poland-only release judging from a few different European iTunes stores I've checked, I wonder if it would go top 1500 here if it did get put up? thinking.gif

Little Mix to utilise this quiet week and sneak top 5 please!

Posted by: JosephStyles 19th February 2016, 12:14 AM

Oh Margaret isn't out after all, what a shame!

Posted by: ML Hammer95 19th February 2016, 07:19 AM

I've heard the new Karen Harding song and I thought it was pretty good! Like Jess Glynne's solo stuff, obviously pop but with a strong dance influence.

See Devlin's releasing this week. He had some tunes back in the day (Runaway, Let It Go, London City, Off With Their Heads, Watchtower) and it was a shame he went back underground. 'Rewind' was watered-down mediocrity though.

but Brits week is never boring, sure something performed there will shoot up the charts, and will also be interesting in albums cos Jack Garratt will probably be #1 in the first mids and then it will be interesting to see if the Brits winners can catch him up in just 1 day smile.gif

They only happen on Wednesday though, and there's no new releases, so for the most part, it's pretty dull.

Posted by: mr_pmt 19th February 2016, 12:08 PM

Karen has left it too long to capitalise on 'Say Something' and it's ruined her, still embittered about what happened with the Blonde collaboration though. sad.gif

Did Fleur perform somewhere to be back?

What's the new Tove Lo track? ohmy.gif

Really loved Devlin's first few eras and i've yet to hear this new song but I hope it's back to his sound from his debut album.

The new Karen Harding song sounds like a chart hit to me. It's different to the house music in the charts recently as it's more piano-led c. 2013-14.

I imagine the new Tinie Tempah/Zara Larsson song will be a hit too and maybe the new Beyonce and Kanye songs will do something once on iTunes.

Still great to see ...Ibiza is doing so well yahoo.gif

Phillip George's followup predictably flopping, but the song isn't as good as his previous work so it's no big loss for me really. Still hope it can pick up though.

Could we be looking at a potential #1 once Radio 1 get on board?

Mike Posner now at #14, could possibly go straight in the top 10 officially on Friday. Shame about Viola Beach dropping to #6

I'd say that's a safe bet. Unless something from the Brits helps a song shoot to the top (Like Rihanna/Adele) then I am expecting Mike Posner to challenge for #1 in a few weeks. I suspect Alan Walker could be a contender at some point too.

it will be interesting to see what happens with Rihanna with the video out on Monday, it will surely climb to #2 anyway.

This is for the Friday Chart Predictions topic, I know it only just got posted but patience is a virtue tongue.gif

I think One Call Away's climb is due to being 59p again? Delighted anyway, I thought it had missed its chance of a chart show play but it doesn't look that way now wub.gif

Hope 'New Romantics' can do something though, coz that's a great song and one of the top 5 (possibly 3) songs on '1989'.

Out of the Woods is the first of her singles to have had no commercial radio support, well I'm not sure about Kiss but Heart and Capital have snubbed it. I guess it's partly because of Wildest Dreams' performance. She should have skipped that one, album track through and through, even though it did just scrape the top 40 didn't it?

I think New Romantics will obviously do better through due to the fact it's not in the main album, so loads of people won't have it already.

Posted by: JosephStyles 21st February 2016, 01:13 AM

I'm not sure Out of the Woods would've done any better in Wildest Dreams' place! It may have just scraped the top 40 for two weeks but it spent numerous weeks top 20 on sales so it comes down to streams again, which obviously doesn't phase her or the label or she'd be on Spotify. Wildest Dreams is my favourite on 1989 anyway so I'm delighted it got a push and became a top 40 hit against the odds wub.gif

Wow, Lukas Graham might have a 2nd hit in the top 40 soon I hope "Happy Home" gets a push at some point. That was my jam of summer 2014 and thought it would be massive here. Nice to see them doing so well albeit with a different song.

THIS! 'Happy Home' is one of the best songs of the past few years and is MILES better than '7 Years'.

Posted by: Bjork 21st February 2016, 07:31 PM

problem is looks like Mama Said, which is all kinds of bad, is the one climbing up now

plus Happy Home is a collaboration between a DJ and Lukas the singer not the band (I know it's confusing cos of the name), so I doubt they'd go for that as follow-up single

I always wonder why her post-leads flop so terribly in the UK. I really loved Same Old Love but it did nothing there.

Hopefully Hands To Myself can revert the curse?

The Zendaya song with Chris Brown sounds almost exactly like 'Somebody'. laugh.gif I'm liking it though, would be a good summer song.

Some very good songs from Devlin, AlunaGeorge, Protoje, Kid Ink, Bryson Tiller, Kendrick Lamar, Tiggs Da Author & Anderson .Paak amongst the list too. Out of them, 'I'm In Control' is almost a guaranteed hit and 'Exchange' could do well once the video is premiered.

Something about the lyrics to '7 Years' I just can't take seriously. Only heard it infrequently and mainly when at the gym but they seem too try-hard and over earnest for me.

It's a GRAT from the re-release of their album. They've had loads of support from Radio 1 over the last year, so it's not surprising they've built up a fanbase. It's good to see them doing well and adding more variety to the charts.

I find them a bit cringey, and the song overall is really dull so it's not like it has anything going for it that would allow me to overlook the fact the lyrics are awful!

Except they wouldn't make £5 from 5 purchases, when ~70% goes to iTunes/their label.

So that means they get about 75p or 8.93 Swedish kruna each. Not even enough for a single pint of milk. sad.gif

Lukas Graham will be number 1 overall next week.

I think if anything, 'Work' proves that Rihanna still has what it takes to sell a record by name. Regardless of personal opinions on the song, it's still not exactly something you'd expect to be an instant hit, if a hit at all, but Rihanna has got people interested in it all the same.

Very true - although I actually love Talk That Talk and don't really get the hate for it. unsure.gif I know it was definitely a step down from the brilliance of Loud but 'Birthday Cake', 'Cockiness' and 'We Found Love' were all monsters for me. laugh.gif Unapologetic was a misfire though imo, bar 'Pour It Up'.

I didn't like 'Work' at first but I think it's an acquired taste. Fair enough, it's not exactly ground-breaking but the chorus is so infectious.

It's highly unlikely Work would trouble the top 100 if it had been by a smaller artist. I'm glad it seems to be going down well though - it's great to have urban music high in the charts.

Posted by: sammy01 25th February 2016, 11:17 PM

The thing is no one as commercial and mainstream as Rihanna would release a song like Work. It should be applauded she has the guts to release something with patois lyrics and is island sounding, as that is essentially Rihanna.

She could so easily release another Clavin Harris banger but she hasn't done that now for a long time. Her sound and music has evolved and is much more her as a person than generic dance music (though she did that to a top class standard too).

Also it is not like Rihanna hasn't had her fair share of under performing songs too, it isn't as if she actually has a big 'stan base' she generally is one of the few artists who the general public will accept and buy into if the deem the music good enough, which evidently people think Work is. It is also why her albums sell slow and steady as she has to convince the general public the album is worthy of their money, she doesn't have a huge built in fanbase who buy any and everything.
