Sergej's Year End Lists of 2018

Well, 2018 is almost over.
And normally, I would do the Year-End Lists at the End of the Year, but I just couldn't wait any longer. Since I want to transition to the new year, I'm making my Year-End Lists right now.

If you haven't seen my previous year's year end list, check it out right here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=207676

But as for this year...
Here are how my lists are going to work, is that I'm first talking about the WORST songs of 2018, then I'll talk about my top 10 new artists to watch out to become popular in 2019, my top 10 artists of 2018, my top 50 albums of 2018, before I talk about the big list.
Last year, I'm talked about my top 250 songs of 2018, but inspired by fellow Buzzjack member Joseph, I'm bumping up my best songs according to my chart list... to 300!

It's going to be a long ride, so hopefully you'll stick around to see it!

Who could be the best song of 2018 according to my chart year of 2018? Could Dua Lipa get another song of the year? Or will there be other artists who'll get it?
Possible contenders of my song of the year are: Dua Lipa, Calvin Harris, Alvaro Soler, Craig David, Rudimental, Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne, George Ezra and a lot more!

I can't wait to talk about the best what this year gave to us! However, before we'll get to the best, let's just get the garbage out of the way.

My HATECHART begins this weekend with 10 songs that I just don't like.
Prepare yourselves, this is going to get ugly.

MY HATECHART starts with some DIShonorable mentions:

HRVY - Personal
Now, I didn't find HRVY an awful artist, I kinda liked "Hasta Luego" for what it is (a dance song with a latin artist) and "I Wish You Were Here" is decent for me.
But for some reason, this song just made me gag for a reason. HRVY sounds bad, the production isn't good and the lyrics are bad.
Maybe HRVY is a really bad artist and I don't know better.

Dappy - Oh My (feat. Ay Em)
Dull, generic song with no quality.

Travis Scott - Watch (feat. Lil Uzi Vert & Kanye West)
This wasn't a big hit, but I hate it because I can't stand it, all 3 artists sound bad, the production sucks and the lyrics are horrible.
Kanye, you're better than this. Lil Uzi Vert, GO AWAY! And Travis, you're also better than this, at least you had some songs that I like from ASTROWORLD. (P.S. SICKO MODE will not be on the HATECHART, because I like this song).

Eno - Mercedes
This wasn't big everywhere, not in the US and not in the UK. However, it was famous in my country Germany. And it sucked.
The artist sounds annoying, the production is alright, the lyrics are dumb and the constant repitition of the word "Mercedes" just annoys me.
However, it wasn't the worst rap song from my country. Trust me, I'll get to it.

Before I go to what made the list, I want to make some rules to my HATECHART:
1. One song per artist
2. This song has to be made in 2018
3. I'm breaking the barriers, any song that I've heard either on the UK, the US or the german charts are elligible to chart on my HATECHART.

10. Remember X-Factor, well I don't remember it being popular from where I live, but in the UK is massively popular. This year's winner was Dalton Harris, who's winning song was the cover version of "The Power Of Love" with featured vocals from James Arthur. I kinda like it, it's a great cover from the Frankie Goes To Hollywood classic. However, it isn't as good as last year's winning song "Dimelo" by British boy band Rak-Su, Naughty Boy & Wyclef Jean. This song is really catchy and fun in my opinion. But what would you get, if you take all the catchiness and fun that "Dimelo" had and butcher it with confusing and bad lyrics and production that's not as good as their first song. You'll get their follow-up single.

Rak-Su - I Want You To Freak

Now, I admit the production isn't as bad and I don't hate it a lot, it's still upbeat. But the lyrics are in my opinion are standard trying to get a girl to freak. Whatever that means, but this isn't the reason why I hate it so much, I hate it because of that dumb drop in the chorus. Freaking hell, did that made it want to cover my ears. But I don't have to say, anything else about this song. It's just bad taste in my opinion. The 9 other songs that made the list however, I do have a lot of things to say.

9. Hey, do you want more bad german rap? No, well too bad, because here's another one.

Dardan - Facetime

Look at the title of this song and tell me if this spells disaster. Dardan is another bland german rapper, with this song being his biggest song yet. He hasn't got a personality, except telling how rich he is. The production is alright, but it's standard german rap production, that I have heard 100 songs with it yet. But the reason why I hate this are the lyrics. Now I'm trying my best to translate the lyrics, so you could understand.
In the pre-hook he imagines himself being very high playing casino and being in Tokio with his eyes closed. (WTF?)
Than the hook comes, where a girl tries to Facetime with him, by finding the location where he is, but he's out there last-nights playing Fortnite and listening to Drake's "More Life". Nice job, by mentioning one of the worst albums I've heard in 2017!
In the first verse, a girl tries to find him and convince him to take on trips with him around the world, but he rejects by PULLING OUT A GUN! Not the way I would reject a girl, that's for sure.
Oh and the second verse has the real charming line of: "She f***s my head through the iPhone". EWWWW! That's gross!
So yeah, screw this bland german rap song, it should have get popular, however in my country and due to streaming data, it's now a huge hit. I hate my country sometimes.

If you want to listen to it, feel free:

8. After "Despacito", latin music has been taken over the charts, by the likes of "Mi Gente", "X", "MIA" and spanish artists showing up as featured artists in many songs.
Now normally, I didn't mind latin songs, they're decent at best for me and forgettable at worst.
However, I have my limits.

Nio García, Darell, Casper Mágico, Bad Bunny, Nicky Jam and Ozuna - Te Boté (Remix)

This song didn't chart until the remix was released in the US. And it sucks a lot, this is the worst latin song I've heard. There are a lot of problems:
1. The singers all sounds horrible
2. The lyrics are very bad, if you translate it.
3. The production sounds awful.
And 4. It's 7 MINUTES LONG!
I had to hear this awful song for 7 minutes by 6 latin artists who sounds pretty awful.
My advice, if you haven't heard this song, skip it! Don't listen to it.

7. Sheck Wes - Mo Bamba

I just don't get why people like this.
It sounds awful and the singer is another generic mumble rapper, who was no personality.
In a world where we let Juice WRLD, Lil Pump and... urgh, 6ix9ine get a lot of hits, please, PLEASE, don't let this guy have another hit!

I heard a 10 second snip of Te Bote from the US chart recap videos and have no interest in listening to the full 7(!) minutes of it, just sounds like another uninspired latin hit only big because Ozuna, Nicky Jam and Bad Bunny are huge names for whatever reason.

I quite liked the Rak-Su song, more than Dimelo actually, but I won't be missing them when they inevitably get dropped and have no hits next year, not a truly essential act really.

That German rap song sounds rather poor skimming it, I'm not into foreign language rap anyway but it just sounds like your equivalent of the basic UK rap we get in the chart.

Quite like 'Mo Bamba' actually, it's rather different compared to the usual rap hits we get. I'm 90% sure he won't ever get another hit anyway.

Probably the right choice, not to listen to "Te Bote" and "Mercedes", both are just bad songs.
"I Want You To Freak" is forgettably bad in my opinion and I get why you like "Mo Bamba", but in my opinion I find it right now as so bad it's good, just like the movie "The Room" from 2003.

I Want You To Freak is laughably bad...

Te Boté I hear out in bars all the time, agreed that it's one of the weaker latin songs.

I do love Mo Bamba though, it's just so out there!

Shame to see 'Mo Bamba' in your hate chart, I'm loving it at the moment.

While it has a very typical mumble rap beat, he seems to be doing the opposite of mumbling. He's over-pronouncing every word so it takes him about a minute to say sentence laugh.gif

I fully support your hatred of 6ix9ine though. Even ignoring his personality, his music is absolutely horrible to listen to.

Why are you putting your hatechart on Spotify? Surely you want to avoid the songs? laugh.gif

Mo Bamba is terrible though, glad it was released when it was because the Christmas onslaught has pushed it nicely out of the Top 40 tongue.gif

Yeah, I went a little bit overboard with it, I've since edit it out. I'm just going to put the best songs on a Spotify playlist smile.gif
"Mo Bamba" is really terrible, I'm very happy for the christmas songs to keep it out of the top 40 in the UK!
