So here it is, all oldies excluded, cos their "sales" belong in the year they came out, so that's any track released before the end of 2017 - those peaking in 2018 but debuting in 2017 get carried over into 2018 cos that's always been my rule, I hate it when a record has one week at 75 in the last chart of the year and gets called a chart hit of that year, when clearly it was big in the new year! Some are still charting and will eventually have extra sales added, cos I hate "split" sales too!

So, act of the year? No question, Panic! At The Disco, getting the top 2 slots. That hardly ever happens in my year-end charts, previous ones being Abba in 1976 (the entire top 3), Abba 1981 (excluding oldies), Frankie Goes To Hollywood 1984. Most number of entries though is Kylie with 7, her biggest ever tally for a calendar year. Kendrick Lamar has 2, Gallant has 2, Alan Walker 2, the Cyrus sisters have one each, Pink has 2 side-by-side, Eels have 2, Florida Georgia Line have 3, The Fizz aka Bucks Fizz have 3, Jess Glynne has 2, Hailee Steinfeld has 2, Muse have 2, Paloma Faith has 2...so good luck in finding a unifying theme, pop with an indie-soul-country-rnb bent most-likely, which is me all over if you chuck in all the other genres in the list.

Lots of BJSC tracks feature, so well done all who entered these fab tracks, or those who introduced me to them, forever grateful! Top movie song: All The Stars. Top song to not top my chart: Foster The People at 11. UK acts are scarce in the top 20, international is the theme. Top Eurovision: Saara Alto. Top Buzzjack: Bend (via Jordan's personal Riser chart). Number of 20th century acts, to show how loyal I am to old pop acts: Paul McCartney (60's), George Benson, Paul Weller, Rick Wakeman (70's) Kylie, Rick Astley, Bucks Fizz, Ice Cube (80's), Eels, Pink, Justin Timberlake, Moby, Damon Albarn, Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, All Saints (90's) - all of which shows you can't predict who's going to have careers that last decades: Kylie & Rick Astley wouldn't have got any bets on lasting into the 90's, never mind dawning on the 2020's! This is why pop is eternally fascinating to me.

Hi Popchartfreak

Good to see the rock stars Panic! at The Disco in the top 2, but I'd rather the other way round. High Hopes is really fantastic biggrin.gif
Nothing Breaks Like a Heart and Panic Room are also the highlights of this chart. I love both!

I had no idea that Bucks Fizz had collaborated with Rick Wakeman. I've just had a listen and I like it. smile.gif

Hello John!
Sooooo many highlights from your Year-End chart, there are a lot of songs that have also been featured on my Year-End chart and some underappreciated gems!
I like the Panic! at the Disco double domination, even though "High Hopes" is the better song of the two.
Seeing Kendrick and Alan Walker both in the top 5 with separate songs is amazing too.
And I'm happy I'm not the only one who charted "Romantic", it's a beautiful song!
Nice song list!

I don't think I'll be able to do this chart justice, so many tracks I like here! Romantic, Broken Love and Givin Up are obviously all songs I love, Starcrosed Losers was a Personal #1 for me this year (I think it might have been your chart that alerted me to the fact they were back so thanks for that!) Nice to see Joy, Fuego, On Our Way Home, Head Held High, Brazilian Soul and any other song I love but have accidentally skimmed over here as well!

Great EOY biggrin.gif

Hi Rollo,

Yes it seemed one of the most unlikely collaborations of all-time till you realise Rick used to appear on loads of pop singles back in the day as musician, and he's always been gregarious and likeable smile.gif

Hi Sergej, I'm sure I nicked some of them from your charts! laugh.gif I love both those Kendrick & Alan Walker songs, both under-appreciated. Romantic is just gorgeous, I've had folk outside Buzzjack love it too and buy the album, so all very word of mouth for Hooverphonic.

Sorry I can't comment on your list, I managed to open the last page, and love what people mention (Kendrick obv, plus Clean bandit, Ariana, under-rated Olly Murs, The Weeknd, and a good top-spot choice) but my old macbook can't cope with more than a few embedded youtube videos on a page before crashing into an endless loop - it's my fault as my laptop is stuffed full of itunes downloads and I need to archive at least half of them and delete them from the laptop, but till I get time for that it means I can't view 150 through 26, oops sorry!

Thanks!

cheers

Hi Pete! Glad you love so much! I think we often share love for a lot of stuff, and your BJSC entries have been spot on during 2018 so I'm extremely grateful for those fab tracks that I would have missed, and the other stuff too, I'm a shameless magpie stealing silver from other people's charts! laugh.gif cheer.gif

John, I'm very far from the current music (if don't count Lithuanian songs) and know only near 15 songs from your top 100.

Predictably like only old good Bucks Fizz and Hooverphonic (I already saw this song in some other end of year charts here. BJSC entry ?) + didn't know about new Kylie songs. Not sure if they are good or bad.

Where is Kim Wilde ?

Some my least favourites (Hi, Ariana Grande laugh.gif ) are represented here too.

Very busy with "retro charts" cycle (the most hardest is 1989 year, because I'm not big fan of music from late 80s and the first half of 90s), so will post my EoY 2018 list in the middle of 2019. smile.gif

Hi Alex,

A lot of my tracks aren't what you call big hits these days laugh.gif

Hooverphonic was a BJSC entry yes, and it's fab! heart.gif

Kim Wilde was just outside the top 100 with a couple or 3 of her recent tracks. I expect to see The Fizz in your 2018 countdown biggrin.gif

cheers
