Now That’s What I Call Music! 75 also known as Now 75 began a fourth decade of the series since its inception. This volume got released in the Spring of 2010 and featured 43 tracks and 9 UK #1 singles. It was the first volume to bring us music from Iyaz, Tinie Tempah, Ke$ha (as a lead artist), Justin Bieber, Owl City, Marina & The Diamonds, Ellie Goulding, Plan B (as a lead artist), Naughty Boy, Example and Chiddy Bang.

Some omissions from this era included a few #1 singles. X Factor Finalists 2009 who had a #1 charity single with a cover of Michael Jackson’s You’ll Never Walk Alone were overlooked, despite the previous year’s finalists featuring in the series. The official Children In Need single, also a UK #1, was not included. The Christmas #1 single of 2009 was an intense chart battle between the winner of X Factor, Joe McElderry, and Rage Against The Machine. The latter got the victory on that week, but it was omitted from the volume. Finally Lady Gaga’s #1 duet with Beyoncé, Telephone, was omitted. The other omissions from this era included Timbaland, Boyzone, David Guetta, 50 Cent, Susan Boyle, Chuckie & LMFAO and Calvin Harris to name a few.

Of those artists who never feature again in the series, we had Glee Cast, Jedward, Joe McElderry, Helping Haiti, Journey, Sidney Samson, Gramophonedzie, Young Money and McLean.

Artwork Rating: 4/10 Very Poor
A real lack of imagination went into creating the artwork for this Spring volume. I have nothing against butterflies, but it looks very messy slapped all over the cover in basic colours. I just see no creativity here at all, just a repeat of the same sort of things done many times before this.

Disc 1 Favourite: Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
Probably the best single she ever made, just loud and brash in a good way. Very much a signature song I would associate Lady Gaga with. My only major gripe was the track on this disc was trimmed by a whole minute which ruined it for me.

Disc 2 Favourite: Florence + The Machine – Dog Days Are Over
This disc is easily one of the most forgettable discs in the whole series. So many songs on here have been forgotten and no longer have much appeal, and those that do haven’t aged very well either. I chose this song as it’s taken from a really strong debut album put out by the artist.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Lady Gaga feat. Beyoncé – Telephone 3:40 {1}
2. Timbaland feat. Nelly Furtado & SoShy – Morning After Dark 3:51 {6}
3. Ke$ha feat. 3OH!3 – Blah Blah Blah 2:52 {11}
4. Sugababes – Wear My Kiss 3:07 {7}
5. Chuckle & LMFAO – Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl 2:43 {9}
6. Wiley & Chew Fu – Take That 2:45 {20}
7. Skepta – Bad Boy 2:51 {26}
8. 50 Cent feat. Ne-Yo – Baby By Me 3:33 {17}
9. Girls Can’t Catch – Echo 3:23 {19}
10. Glee Cast – Halo / Walking On Sunshine 2:05 {9}
11. OneRepublic – All The Right Moves 3:59 {26}
12. Boyzone – Gave It All Away 4:27 {9}
13. Susan Boyle – Wild Horses 4:53 {9}
14. Mariah Carey – I Want To Know What Love Is 3:37 {19}
15. X Factor Finalists 2009 – You Are Not Alone 4:09 {1}
16. JLS – One Shot 3:40 {6}
17. Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me 3:49 {27}
18. Steve Aoki feat. [[[Zuper Blahq]]] – I’m In The House 3:24 {29}
19. David Guetta feat. Kid Kudi – Memories 3:30 {15}
20. Shakira – Did It Again 3:12 {26}
21. Daisy Dares You feat. Chipmunk – Number One Enemy 3:47 {13}
22. Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name 5:13 {1}
----------
Total time: 1:18:30

Overall Rating: 5/10 Poor
It’s not great if I’m honest. The overall selection is not the best it could have been from what was available at the time. I would have expected a little more quality at this time. I don’t find myself returning to much of the music from this volume again and it’s not the best way to open a new decade.

Disc 1 Favs
1. Timbaland feat. Katy Perry – If We Ever Meet Again
2. 3OH!3 feat. Katy Perry – Starstrukk
3. The Black Eyed Peas – Meet Me Halfway
4. Rihanna – Rude Boy
5. Lady Gaga – Bad Romance

Disc 2 Favs
1. Owl City – Fireflies
2. Florence + The Machine – Dog Days Are Over
3. Plan B – Stay Too Long
4. Jay-Z feat. Mr. Hudson – Young Forever
5. Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind (Part II)

+ Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’

Added Journey on the end since it stands out from the rest of the album. Still can't believe the whole situation of Don't Stop Believin' in the charts, original and Glee versions tongue.gif

Overall not a great Now! though. Some decent hits there but I feel the smaller, forgettable songs definitely outweigh the gems. Even the great songs of the time have aged poorly. Also oops at my Disc 1 Top 2 both featuring Katy Perry. Timbaland's collab only just edges out 3OH!3's, but both are amazing for me. A similar case goes for Disc 2 really, with my Top 3 being very close. I think the main issue I have with this Now! is how dated a lot of the songs sound, and most of the rest are just not that memorable. It's not much of a case of omissions either, with the era as a whole being a bit lacklustre. Lady Gaga, Rage Against The Machine, and Kesha would've been nice inclusions but I can't say I'm bothered about anything else missing tongue.gif

Hope your feeling better Andrew. Thanks for posting as usual smile.gif

My Top 5 from this album:-

1) Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror
2) Lady GaGa - Bad Romance
3) Florence and the Machine - The Dog Days Are Over
4) Journey - Don't Stop Believing
5) The Saturdays - Ego

I forgot how poor this edition was. I'm surprised about the lack of dance on this album given it was pretty big in 2010, though I think we'll start seeing more on Now 76.

Voted for Bad Romance & Fireflies, with honourable mention to Dog Days Are Over. That's about it though!

BEP / Cheryl for me though Owl City is a very close second for Disc 2.

Just put together my list of omissions for tomorrow *.*
