New Björk Album, Feat. Production By Arca, Confirmed For 2015
It’s been three years now since Björk released the skittering, science-inspired album Biophilia, and lately we’ve been hearing rumblings that she’s working on its follow-up. A few weeks ago, there were reports that she was working with Arca, the Venezuelan-born and New York-based producer. Arca, who specializes in dessicated deconstructions of apocalyptic dance music and who worked with Kanye West on Yeezus, issued a clarifying statement on Twitter: “rather than “sole producing,”@bjork and I are coproducing music together! just a quick correction to phrasing !! *curtsie*” And now Björk’s camp has effectively confirmed that she’s got a new album coming out next year, posting on her Facebook that she’s skipping the Biophilia Live premiere at this week’s London Film Festival so that she can work on the album, which is due next year. Björk tends to do amazing work when she’s paired up with a bleeding-edge electronic producer, and Arca is absolutely that, so this is a good time to start getting excited.

WOOP
Much excite, naturally.
So excited for this. She's one of those artists where I'm always really curious to hear what she comes up with next.
Edit: I do hope the new album flows a little better than Biophilia, which I do like, but it's my least favourite of hers I have to say. Not counting the largely covers album she made as a child, as I haven't bothered listening to that in full, and the Drawing Restraint 9 soundtrack album as I haven't really listened to that in full very much either, although I love Gratitude, Storm and Ambergris March on that one. I do remember it had a few kind of irritating tracks.
Part of the excitement for me is how it will work visually as well as the music, she's such an ICON.
I pretty much ignored the last album (I did hear it, it wasn't bad but didn't exactly pique my interest). However I always check out what she releases and from the description this sounds interesting!
Homogenic is simply one of the greatest masterpieces ever created, just perfection.
So excited for this. From what I've read, the new album will contain strings, all arranged by Björk. Happy to hear that actually, it's been some time since she's worked with strings, I don't think the previous three had any strings at all and she works well with strings I find.
Strings
Is that the official artwork?
so beautiful omg
What the hell is a "vulnicura"
I feel like I should try to like Bjork but every time I listen to her my ears bleed
So this has leaked already..
So this is http://pitchfork.com/news/58111-bjorks-new-album-vulnicura-is-out-now/ - two months early! A response to the leak, I guess.
Eugh....iTunes...
It doesn't seem to be in the iTunes store just yet (at least not the Irish one) - the article says it should be there in the next 24 hours.
Really excited though. I have an idea for a Youtube video regarding listening to the first track for the first time. I hope the video can be seen as art, not boring pointless self-indulgence.
Bjöncé
It's on iTunes now! Oh god, can't handle...!! Downloading it as we speak.
Atom Dance is really fabulous :') Her collabs with Hegarty are constantly on point.
I cannot get enough of this.
I like it ten times more than Biophilia.
Downloaded.
Black Lake is rather good.
Black Lake is the best thing she's done since Pagan Poetry. (Discounting Surrender)
At least I like one song from this album - which is more than I could say for the last three.
Björk is like poetry these days, it's all about rhythm and words and not about the tunes.
That said, I like poetry, but it's a far cry from the musicality of her peak years.
I find that there is melody in places, it's just a little subtle. Stonemilker, Lionsong, Notget and Quicksand sound quite melodic to me. The latter has an abrasive sound, but there's melody in the vocal line.
So this is just all sorts of brilliant as expected isn't it.
arca done good
This has just gotten better and better. Still can't get enough. Even Atom Dance has majorly grown on me, what a track! Quicksand is my favourite, addictive.
quicksand quicksand quicksand quicksand quicksand quicksand quicksand quicksand
Straight from Wikipedia, the most reliable website in existence of course:
On 6 November 2015, Vulnicura Strings (Vulnicura: The Acoustic Version - Strings, Voice And Viola Organista Only) or simply Vulnicura Strings, is set to be released, featuring eight of Vulnicura 's nine tracks in strings only renditions in what has been described as a more uncompromising and intimate take on Vulnicura. It features the same vocals as the studio album but without the beats of co-producers Arca and The Haxan Cloak. The album will include additional string arrangements by Una Sveinbjarnardóttir, who was a part of the Icelandic String Octet that joined Björk on stage for her 1998 Homogenic Tour, as well as alternate takes of string arrangements recorded during Vulnicura 's original recording sessions that Björk felt were more appropriate for the far more delicate atmosphere of Vulnicura Strings, stating, "I dug out the more close up pick up miked versions, other sonic point-of-views...". Additionally, several songs will utilize the Viola Organista, a unique instrument designed by Leonardo da Vinci but built for the first time centuries later by the Polish musician Sławomir Zubrzycki. Björk described how the instrument works: "...(it) uses a friction belt to vibrate individual strings (similar to a violin), with the strings selected by pressing keys on the keyboard (similar to an organ)." Zubrzycki plays the instrument, the only one in existence, on the album, which was mixed by Chris Elms.
Track list for Vulnicura Strings:
1. Mouth Mantra
2. Lionsong
3. Black Lake
4. Atom Dance
5. Stonemilker
6. Quicksand
7. Notget
8. Family
9. Black Lake (Viola organista instrumental - Digital edition bonus track)
So two versions of Black Lake. History of Touches is obviously the only track not to be re-interpreted this way, which is probably because it doesn't seem to contain strings in the first place. Would have been interesting to do a strings version of that song too though.
Looking forward to this. I always enjoy it when Björk's songs get reinvented. I can imagine this being extremely pretty and indeed intimate. Should be a nice little companion to an album that has become one of my favourite Björk albums.
It already leaked.
this is better than biophilia for me now. black lake alone is a 10/10
if you've not seen björk digital pls go!
Vulnicura was always better than Biophilia x
Listened to the Vulnicura Live album for I think only the second time tonight and it was so good, several tracks feel even better on the live album than on studio recordings. 'Family' was such a heavy moment tonight :'(
it only just grew past biophilia for me. the recent albums have taken much longer to fully click with me tbh and it wasn't long ago that even biophilia didn't feel quite right. but now i totally get it.
and yerrr vulnicura live is scalping me
shes very original I'll give her that
