Chart Commentary

Following his BRITs success; winning Producer of the Year and Single of the Year for 'One Kiss', as well as his performance of his three most recent singles, he is back at #1 with 'Giant'. It is the track's third week at #1 which now makes it jointly the longest running #1 of the year so far alongside the track it kicks off. Headhunterz' 'Rescue Me' drops two places to #3 as Gareth Emery overtakes with 'Take Everything', reaching a new peak of #2 following four weeks spent at #3, and it still has a chance of becoming Gareth's third #1 hit. Khalid and Arty remain non-movers in the top five and following last week's two entries the top 10 is on lockdown. Climbers within the top 40 include a big climb for EDX to #17 and a small climb for Elk Road & JES to #34.

We should get at least one top 10 entry next week anyway, as Kygo's latest single 'Think About You' is brand new at #13 to follow the #1 hit 'Happy Now' (which drops to #9 this week), and is expected to climb. It becomes Kygo's 15th top 40 hit, which includes six top 10 hits, and is the first hit for featured vocalist Valerie Broussard. It leads eight entries in the top 40 this week, double the amount last week's had, although there is a significant reduction of entries in the overall chart.

The next entry (also brand new) comes from Gareth Emery & Ashley Wallbridge at #19. 'Lionheart' is the second single from their forthcoming collaborative album, which instantly out-peaks 'Kingdom United' (up to #21 this week), becoming Gareth's 8th top 40 hit and Ashley's 3rd (and featured vocalist PollyAnna's first).

Climbing into the top 40 to #22 in their second week are Darren Porter, RAM & Natalie Gioia with 'One Million Seconds', the third T40 hit for RAM and first for the other two. Joe Stone jumps to #24 with his Destiny Child reworking 'Bug A Boo', his fourth T40 hit.

Infinity Ink return to the top 40 with 'Rushing Back', their second appearance (6 years and 2 months after their first!) and in at #36. It is also Yasmin's 5th T40 hit, a month short of 6 years after her last entry. I don't know what the record is for longest time between two hits but this must come close to it, and even more impressive that both acts involved had such a long break.

M-22 re-enter at #38 with 'White Lies', gaining a new peak. At #39, David Guetta, Brooks & Loote climb in with 'Better When You're Gone', becoming David's 31st(!) T40 hit and the first for the other two acts. Finally at #40 is a brand new entry for Armin van Buuren. 'Lonely For You' features Bonnie McKee and gives her a second hit... 4 years and 3 months after her first (it really is the week of comebacks). Armin is no stranger to the chart of course and this becomes his 20th T40 hit. Outside the top 40 there are new entries for Juice WRLD (#79), Super8 & Tab (#80) and Darude (#92).
