It's had a little time to settle in and opinions have probably been fully formed on Chained to the Rhythm by now. So, how does it rank in terms of Katy's songs for you? Is it one of her better singles or does it simply sounds like a good album track? ~ |

I think I'm kinda over it now but that's about normal for any song at this stage for me. It's still a great return, not sure I'd say it's better than California Gurls/Part of Me/Roar in terms of her leads but it's a super tough field! Glad she went for something quite different with the lead, lyrically and thematically speaking.

I'm still loving it! Normally I get bored of songs after this time but this is still in like my top 5 most played songs for the week This is by a long way her best lead single for me (although none of them so far have been my favorites from their era's) and I'd put it up to her second best overall probably, maybe her best in time

Lyrically it's her best lead overall. It's still quite reliant on idioms (though not as much as Roar did) but the message is clear and more unique than most other songs. With a little tweaking and going a bit more hardcore it could be the poppy answer to Green Day.
...but it's not. |

Love it. It's in the bottom half of my top 10 Katy singles, which is a good showing!

Fairly low. I mean, I enjoy it but I still think the chorus is too clunky and doesn't work.

I pretty much agree with this ^^ I have enjoyed it and it's done its job because it has got me excited for the upcoming album but she has so many stronger choruses in her discography that it's hard to place this very on a singles rate at all really, for me. |

It's my least favourite first single from a new album. Just not as catchy as a lot of her previous stuff.

It's her 2nd best lead single for me. After 'Roar'. 'California Gurls' and 'I Kissed A Girl' are good, but a bit overrated for how basic they are.

Surely 'California Gurls' is the most basic if anything?

Roar and Firework are the most basic in structure I'd say, but California Gurls is the most basic themeatically and lyrically.
All three are varying levels of bop though. |

Still too early to really say. I think it will probably level out somewhere in the middle though, if I was pushed for an answer. It's a great lead single though, such a statement but still a very enjoyable, summery pop song.

This is one of my absolute favourites of hers now, probably top 5.
I quite liked it at the beginning but it grew on repeated listens and I'm still loving it now. |
