I'm not surprised people find it to be the weakest of the three so far given it's part one of two. I felt the same with both Harry Potter and Twilight laugh.gif

I actually QUITE LIKED THIS. I've not seen the second but the first was mediocre for reasons I don't completely remember (I'd seen Battle Royale not too long before and it seemed like an American adaption for a post-Twilight world). This had a world that felt a lot more fleshed out and the atmosphere was great. It's kinda obvious that Katniss isn't going to stay on the rebel cause just because of how they're being presented as so... disingenuous. Don't tell me I'm right but I'M RIGHT RIGHT?

Have you read them books tho

not going to spoil it for ya if you haven't~

liked the movie and maybe it was illness and me being very hungry when I watched it yesterday talking but it's pretty much my least favourite of the movies. Catching Fire > Hunger Games > Mockingjay pt. 1.

Nope! The whole 'both sides are as bad as each other' is the only conclusion that makes sense and I'll be interested if it ends otherwise.

So, I hear this flopped!!

Not surprised, releasing over holiday weekend AND splitting it into two will do that.

It opened with about as much money as it took for them to film it. O P E N E D. Lowest opening of the Hunger Games series so far? Yes, but it's in NO WAY WHATSOEVER a flop. So gently f*** off.

It didn't flop. Yes it underperformed a tiny bit in America in comparison with the other 2 but it is still one of the biggest debuts ever and will make a lot of money. In the UK I believe it had the biggest opening of the franchise and the biggest opening weekend of the year which is gigantic and anything but a flop

This also reminds me I will update the box office thread later this evening

saw this today, smacks of Part-1 syndrome, where one story is artificially split and slowed down without a conclusion or dramatic ending, the weakest of the 3 for that reason, but I enjoyed it for the characters, I really do like most of them, and LOVE Effie - Elizabeth Banks is a terrific actress, makes you feel like laughing and crying simultaneously. A great cast too, Donald Sutherland is SO badass, and Thor's younger brother is easy on the eye.

The Hanging Tree, written by the author and set to music by The Lumineers looks like being a hit, amazingly, Jennifer Lawrence gave an emotionally effective performance of it in the film. Download now and make the charts more varied! I know I'm going to...

I aboslutely loved this movie! I had chills throughout and Jennifer is such a flawless actress!
Effie brought some amazing humour in it, Peeta played very well as well

Only one I wasnt amazed by was president Coin, but hey ho can't have everything
The movie definately did the book justice and I can't wait for the second part

EDIT: The Hanging Tree definately was a MOMENT *.*

Effie slayed me. Elizabeth Banks was incredible, as was Jennifer and Josh. I found Liam very bland and boring, but then I don't rank him as a great actor laugh.gif

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" was released over a month ago in my country's cinemas and it was certainly one of the most hype films of the last year! After "Twilight" came to an end two years ago, teenagers (mostly) all around the world, found a new love. For this reason, "The Hunger Games" increase their fansbase from year to year because there weren't any big competitors for this targeted group of going audiences. Jennifer Lawrence was perfect for the role and her participation in the film, actually made her to a big star even though her young age. Having previously seen the first two movies in the series, I can say that they had highly elaborate scenes, impressive technical and sound effects, great photography and a lot of action. However, I wouldn't say that "Mockingjay - Part 1" was as good as the first two parts.
The first thing you realize as the movie ends is that the production studio (Lionsgate) split it into two parts in order to receive much bigger profits. "Mockingjay - Part 1" had several dark shots, depressive interpretations and almost no action. It loses a lot compared to the first two films and the rhythm slowed down. Certainly, that was not the fault of the director/writers since I imagine that the story unfolds somewhat depending on the book. However, the producers convinced them to add some scenes and so the result was more tiring. You would expect from this movie to have an epic spectacle, with countless social messages and touching moments because the leading character began a revolution! Conversely, however, the viewer saw several times the protagonist of a film preparing for pre-revolutionary spots or having an emotion breakdown about Peeta. It had many cliches. There were only three good action scenes which reminded us of "The Hunger Games". Francis Lawrence is the director of the movie again and the script was written by Danny Strong and Peter Craig. In addition to the previous cast, Julianne Moore and the late Philip Seymoyr Hoffman were added. However, the most positive thing I would say, was the great original score that create a better atmosphere in the total result. The scene in which you hear the song "The Hunging Tree" is certainly one of the most powerful moments of the film!
"Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" made an impressive opening the world's first week of release! However, It didn't manage to outnumber the first two movies in the box office and as far as everything indicates, it will end up becoming the least commercial part of the series. I suppose that it isn't as successful as "Catching Fire" because it wasn't as exciting as it. Though, I'm sure that the next movie will be the most succesful. Nevertheless, "Mockingjay - Part 1" has very satisfactory total earnings to date ($682.200.000). It has also amassed a pretty good average score in IMDb (7.1). I imagine that it will only strengthen the hardcore fans of the trilogy. I would not say that I liked it enough to watch it again and I didn't find the end results bad. I just think that the last two movies should have been filmed as one part (Mockingjay - Part 1 & 2).

Finally got around to watching this and I have to agree with the general consensus that it is noticeably the weakest film in the series so far.
Whereas Catching Fire suffered ever so slightly from being virutally the same plot as the first film, it was still very effective and the end result was almost as good as the original movie. The other main faults I could find in CF was that, although they were more developed, the other tributes were still pretty faceless and forgettable for the most part and that I too was more interested in the bigger picture beyond the games. However CF chose to focus on it's strongest point - the brilliant performance from Lawrence which not only held the film together (much like the first film) but this time added more depth, greater nuances ad subtleties. We could believe her development.

Ironically this time, in Mockingjay, they have addressed this by spending more time with the other characters and the other districts yet it comes to the detriment of the film because the film's greatest strength (a still improving and still brilliant performance from Lawrence) is pushed slightly to one side and the supporting characters just aren't half as well portrayed or interesting. Effie aside. Harrelson and Sutherland remain equally as good and both have also been pretty much sidelined this time.

A shame. It's still a good film but something of a missed opportunity. I've not read the books and don't feel there wasn't enough story in the first part, it's just what they did fell a bit flat this time. That said, it is difficult to judge the merits of a 1st part without the 2nd part out yet. It's only when you see the full picture that you can truly judge it.

Hunger Games - 8
Catching Fire - 8
Mockingjay Pt 1 - 6
