I've got a 5-6 hour coach journey on what will end up being like 4 hours sleep, to see Dua Lipa on Friday, so at least I have a soundtrack The last time I was this hyped for a release was Look What You Made Me Do which was under similar circumstances, it was the soundtrack to a long day of travelling as I had like 3 hours sleep and had to get up to vacate an Airbnb, hang around Glasgow for a bit and catch a flight!

Also same Kye, I have every faith that this is going to stratospheric.

The backwards lettering 'ʎɹɔ oʇ ʇɟǝl sɹɐǝʇ ou' is interesting, on the video clip title too! They should type like that on download and streaming sites too when it is released, they probably won't though as it would be too hard to find when typing in!

The videoclip sounds interesting and ethereal. Can't see it being in any way a dance song as has been suggested earlier in the thread. More likely to be pure pop I think.

YESSSS. This is gonna be her Umbrella moment isn’t it not in terms of how the song will sound but in terms of how it’ll be her moment / the beginning of her having her own signature looks / tracks. Really really excited for this. I always had a feeling Ariana would become the biggest female in music. Never could’ve predicted Manchester and that awful awful night but she showed what an asset she was since that and she’s truly changed the perception of her as well. She’s coming for 2018 and next years International Female at the Brits too!

I agree with Leww. It starts off strong but the song just doesn't build at all and the ending is rather abrupt. It's still a bop and I'm rooting for her no matter what, but it's not the moment that it could've been.

I think a tear-jerking ballad will end up as single #2/#3 tbh, or just left as an album track until a Winter single release, with still a good chance of being a fairly big hit but without 'wasting' all the comeback hype on something that won't stick in the charts as long.

First listen: It's good, but not what I expected. The verses are a bit TOO different to the chorus and I feel like they don't flow well at all and can be quite jarring.

Second listen: The chorus is the best thing. Verses still need work/feel like they belong to a different song, but it's growing.

Third listen, first with video: R.I.P. ME. All issues I had with the song originally are already gone 🙃

THAT CHORUS is so ethereal and just stunning. It's so 90's with a modern twist. The little twinkly parts in the chorus remind me of Cheryl 'Fight For This Love'. It's a huge grower!

OK this is f***ing BRILL. It's not what I thought it was gonna be, mainly due to the report that was like "everyone was in hysterical tears" or whatever, but it's totally unique and has so much to it, it's gonna be one of those songs that you hear something new on with each listen, which is gonna give it such replayability. I don't agree at all it's disjointed or sounds like a different song either, it's boppy in the verses but has that euphoric heavenly vibe to the chorus without it trying *too* hard to be like anything else.

I much prefer the video to the actual song but together they work really well. The song is really nice.. I think I wanted more but it's indescribable what I actually wanted because I've had so many emotions towards her over the past 12 months. I'll continue listening to the song and it'll no doubt grow into something huge for me. I really like but it's not LOVE atm.

This is great on first listen, it’s glossy and euphoric but beautiful at the same time. It doesn’t sound disjointed to me either, just not maybe as conventionally structured as most pop songs are these days but not to the extent that I found it jarring on first listen. Gives me slight Flashdance vibes too, really excellent lead single.

Probably going to get killed for this opinion but I don't think it works tbh, sounds like three different songs all combined into one and that kinda ruins the flow and progression of the track, it's a bit clunky and disjointed.

Really enjoying the whole package on first listen! I got the 'disjointed' comments initially but it all fell into place by the time the second chorus came around for me. The video is a thrilling experience alongside too. I'm so glad this turned out to be strong after all the hype, I love the general vibes of 'No Tears Left To Cry' and it feels so different to anything else in the chart right now.

It's doing fine? Calvin and Dua are homegrown talents with a song that's just about to hit it's peak. Also, it's discounted in other territories. I believe the UK is one of just a couple countries where Ari isn't discounted.

I quite like this. The structure at the beginning was pretty jarring at first, but the chorus was very strong and I appreciate a slight experimentation in style from her, I'm not head over heels but I think it'll be a grower. Top marks for the video too *.

Just listened to Ariana's new single and it is fantastic. The title may look like a sad song ballad to me, but the music, lyrics and chorus indeed turns out to be very catchy and have an uptempo vibe. The music video is absolutely brilliant - it really is very creative just like any other great music video. I like the special effects being well-executed (especially the skyscraper buildings and the part where Ariana's face is 'blanked') and I also like Ariana's new 'blonde' look. The only downside in that music video is the presence of men holding umbrellas - are they're necessary to show up for Ariana?

Other than that I hope the latest song from Ariana Grande does extremely well deserved to be a hit - it does scream #1 to me and will be at the top of the official charts around the world in the coming weeks. 'No Tears Left To Cry' is an excellent tribute to the Manchester Arena attack last year (along with 'One Last Time') and will be a big achievement for Ariana this year. The streaming era we live now might be a tough one for Ariana Grande to be at the top of the charts, but after everything she did at the One Love Manchester concert, with her rapidly growing fanbase I think she might be going to be as huge as Drake and Ed Sheeran, and for her new song to get a #1 would result in having a bigger impact on her fans, the media and the music community in general. I hope her future singles would go well and not get flopped like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift did with their latest singles.

I would like to say a big thanks to Ariana Grande for bringing out great new music and for her hard efforts. I hope she does well in the charts soon.

When the intro started along with seeing the setting of the video I was like ''YASS girl give me 'A New Day Has Come 2.0'''. Then she started talking faster and I was scared the beat was gonna drop and then it did. It was really disappointing.

I agree, it would have been almost the easy option for her to come out with a ballad that was obviously about Manchester, this shows her as an artist perfectly and what she is capable of bringing alive with her vocals and interpretation (yes, god forbid she didn't write and produce the song, play every instrument and invent a new genre xx). It's carefree, almost appreciative of whatever bad times that led to being able to be stronger and leave them behind, a message that is needed after Machester etc. - don't dwell on all the bad things and people trying to bring you down. I'm sure she would have still slayed with a ballad but what I am loving perhaps most about this is that it was unexpected in its lyrical content, production and overall vibe, and that made it really hit me probably more than something that sounds like her other songs did, or a ballad. It's also much more intricate than say Problem or Dangerous Woman and that's really lending it well to repeat listens for me because you keep finding new little things about it to appreciate It's got the "boppy" verses, a stunning chorus that feels like a huge moment without trying *too* hard to be huge as it's very breezy and amazing production, like Joseph said it feels like everything I wanted without it being what I thought I needed

I of course understand that not everyone is going to be falling over themselves over this song and stanning it like many of us are, because everyone has different tastes, but it comes across as really snipy to just come out with "people only stan this for the name/hype/because everyone else does". So we're sheep with no mentality just becasue we don't stroll in every thread saying whatever is popular is whatever you randomly land on in the overdramatic thesaurus under the entry for awful? Plenty of people who are "loving it because they want to" have explained exactly why they love it, so if the best you can come up with is just that it's shit then cute but let people enjoy what they want? i am utterly AWESTRUCK by how good this is; i’m 30 listens in and it continues to grow

the inflections of ariana’s voice, the intricate but perfectly executed production techniques (be it the backstreet boys-leaning intro synth or the 90s garage backing [which is only ever a subtle nod] or just those ad libs with the mild vocoder put into the background. it’s everything i adore about max martin; a detailed pop song masterfully executed. there are so nsny perfect details

and then you chuck in the meyers video which is utterly gorgeous, with casual cinema nods and you realise ariana isn’t the little girl with high voice anymore; she’s come into her own as a woman. ariana casually turns to the screen, the recurring motif ponytail has grown and changed colour. then that beautiful vignette where she removes her face and looks back abjectly; PERFECTION.

also the casual melancholic uptempo vibe which only the best (like abba) achieve; the manchester vibe resonates throughout but never defines or all encompasses it it’s so beautifully projected

to me it’s that kind of 10/10 song you rarely get; production / context / melody perfection; you throw in an examplorary video and yeah 10/10; this will be in my all time top 50...

I'm not usually a fan of Ariana (I only really like 'Love Me Harder' and 'Into You' prior to this) but this is a great comeback from her, absolutely love the chorus.

The first time I heard it I did think it started off really promisingly (almost a bit of a Madonna 'Frozen' vibe?) but then started going downhill after the beat drop but the rest of the song has already grown on me after a couple more listens.

I guess this is a perfect example of why going #1 is irrelevant nowadays because this is probably her most iconic song now (well along with OLT which is another example) and the funny thing is I think most people think this actually did go #1 because of how inescapable it was

That video intro leading into the song is still just stunning.

Is there a version of the song available to buy anywhere like on iTunes with that intro? It just sounds so GOOD!

One of my favourite songs of the entire last decade and still my favourite Ariana track. #1 on my personal chart as well so it did go to #1 somewhere.

Tbh Arianas #1s in the UK (aside from thank u, next) are kinda like not what you’d expect if you didn’t follow the charts. Like I bet almost everyone would assume that this and One Last Time went to #1 and wouldn’t necessarily think break up with your gf managed it .

I don't think there's a studio version of 'no tears left to cry' with the video intro but the live version from 'k bye for now (swt live)', available to buy, includes it!

'God is a woman' is her only release that stands in the way of this being my favourite - what a 1-2 punch <3 well... 'breathin' extended the excellence too

Her peaks are indeed a bit all over the place when it comes to being indicative of the song's impact, I think chart-toppers 'thank u, next' and '7 rings' are definitely signature songs already but 'One Last Time' and 'no tears left to cry' are up there too as you say despite missing out I thought 'Problem' would be Ariana's signature song at the time but it's been eclipsed by quite a few others in her discography now. I was saying the same thing about Rita the other day actually - I thought 'R.I.P.' would be her signature song at the time but it was soon overtaken by the likes of 'I Will Never Let You Down' and 'Anywhere'. It's interesting to see what truly stands the test of time, 'Problem' feels fairly of its time with the horn trend and an Iggy feature but 'One Last Time' from the same era sounds like an eternal classic.

One Last Times chart run is so interesting though.

For a time I thought it was gonna miss the top 40, then it suddenly got that push into the top 40 ages after the video come out was it because of Kendall Jenner dancing to it or something ?

Then again it returned to the charts after the awful events of Manchester. It’s gutting that it only ever got the #2 peak here because of that like it would’ve still had that #22 peak.

By far one of the best songs of the 2010s! Even though it is well loved I still think the song is so so underrated. The fact thank u, next (which is still very good) was a much bigger moment than this always really confused me like she just released pop perfection a few months ago.

The first time I ever heard this I think I compared it to Steps

It does still have a hint of Summer of Love but it’s a beautiful track and visual too.

The intro to the track from the video really needed to be on the single / sweetener album.

But it was a perfect track for her to come back too and one of the most robbed #2 peaking tracks of the last decade too!

I remember thinking it reminded me of 'Fight For This Love' mixed with 'Sweet Like Chocolate', still does at times. Absolutely sublime to this day.

One of her best, for sure, but there's a few singles I'd rank above it so I've always felt I've not viewed it as the same level as everyone else. It was the perfect comeback for her though, this one of the most anticipated releases of the decade and I think everyone had formed an idea of what the song would be like, but in the end I think she nailed it. It sound huge and euphoric and taps into the events of the previous year just enough to make the song feel even more special without being exploitative.
