BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Delta Goodrem - Wings

QUOTE
It’s been a big week for Aussie pop favourite Delta Goodrem.
Not only has she been widely publicised throughout the past few days for her shade-throwing in the way of fellow ‘The Voice’ coach Jessie J, but she’s also been confirmed to play the part Grizabella in the Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart seasons of the new adaptation of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed musical ‘Cats’.
But now there’s new music waiting in the wings, with the confirmation a short time ago from her label Sony that her new single will be called ‘Wings’.
Though further information about the new single is expected within the next week, it has just appeared on this week’s Sony release schedule and is slated for release on Friday July 24.

http://www.auspop.com.au/2015/07/new-delta-waiting-in-the-wings/

It's not clear whether this will be another one-off single or the lead for the fifth album, but either way, I'm very excited for this! yahoo.gif
The song was co-written with Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci, aka DNA Songs.

Also, news on Delta playing Grizabella in 'Cats': http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3154334/Delta-Goodrem-gets-paws-purrfect-role-Andrew-Lloyd-Webber-s-CATS-West-End-theatre-production-comes-Australia.html

I haven't liked her last 3 singles, so I hope this one makes up for them. I want her to come back with something fun like In This Life or Sitting on Top of the World.

Posted by: Rob 9th July 2015, 12:00 PM

What's this shade she threw at Jessie J?

Posted by: Liаm 9th July 2015, 12:08 PM

Jessie basically made this guy pick the Madden brothers on The Voice when Delta was desperate for him, she seemed really rude as if she thought Delta was incapable. Delta said she felt like she was thrown under the bus, which is fair enough. Jessie gets wayyyy too competitive and acts quite superior as if she's a "better" coach because she has experience on both the UK and now Aussie versions of the show. She seems to care more about getting herself attention than finding talent etc.

I can barely watch because of Jessie, her personality is just awful. I don't blame Delta for clashing with drama.gif

Anyway that can be discussed just http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=175678&st=40 kink.gif I look forward to this, Only Human was nice but a bit limp for me and I don't go back to it now.

Much excite!

Just when I think Jessie J can't get any more annoying!

Posted by: JosephStyles 9th July 2015, 12:40 PM

Looking forward to this of course! Delta's Only Human was lovely but far from her best I think.

Australian songstress Delta Goodrem returns with her anticipated new single, 'Wings!'

Written by Delta, with Australian co-writers/producers DNA, 'Wings' is a beautifully conceived song that harnesses Delta's natural instrumental ability with her soaring powerful vocals to create a positively charged pop single.

"I wanted to make sure I had a song that incorporated all the things that make me feel like a powerful woman... you always want a song to represent where you are now," explains Delta. "I feel like the most important thing is, 'Wings' just feels fresh. The meaning of the song is about looking for new horizons, everybody is looking for a second chance."

"I wanted 'Wings' to convey that liberated feeling: with a bit of wildness meets a bit of letting go... That's been a big theme, where I've kind of let a lot go. These 'wings' are made to fly!"

Posted by: gooddelta 14th July 2015, 08:19 AM

Ooh, the signature font is gone.

An uptempo with the theme 'these wings are made to fly' makes me think of Little Mix...

Posted by: JosephStyles 14th July 2015, 11:26 AM

Uptempo Delta, looking forward to this even more if so! It's what I was hoping for from this single.

Posted by: bluesunstorm 14th July 2015, 03:59 PM

I love the single cover, it's pretty. Too bad there's no new b-side though.

The storming dance track, with live piano and strings, was inspired by Goodrem listening to Calvin Harris and Haim’s Pray to God and London Grammar.

SO SO GOOD wub.gif Not the best quality right now but that's the full song at least. SO excited to hear it in HQ now heart.gif

Posted by: Rob S~ 22nd July 2015, 11:03 PM

Ooh this sounds excellent. Easily her best in a while for me wub.gif

Posted by: Liаm 22nd July 2015, 11:04 PM

Omg that's a monster <3 Could easily be a hit, they really went in on this! Can't wait for the HQ *.*

Posted by: Ryan. 22nd July 2015, 11:04 PM

It sounds very good despite the low quality, an unexpected sound from Delta although she did release 'Heart Hypnotic' of course. Looking forward to the HQ!

Posted by: JosephStyles 22nd July 2015, 11:16 PM

I think this has more of a "Delta" touch to it than Heart Hypnotic did, especially with the piano sections! Not sure I want her whole album to be so dancey but it's a killer lead single regardless.

Posted by: gooddelta 23rd July 2015, 07:45 AM

That's amazing! Another stellar lead single from Delta, I agree that it's dancy Delta but more believable than Heart Hypnotic ever was.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 23rd July 2015, 08:19 AM

Well, Heart Hypnotic was awful so this just needed to be passable to be better and it is, so yay. The chorus is quite flat, but the verses are great and I do think it has potential to grow.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 23rd July 2015, 02:18 PM

Oh my god, this is easily one of her best! This needs to go worldwide!!

Posted by: billy. 23rd July 2015, 02:23 PM

That could actually be a hit over here. Miracle pls.

Posted by: Martyn 23rd July 2015, 11:21 PM

On my iTunes now. Loving it.

Posted by: bluesunstorm 23rd July 2015, 11:47 PM

Easily my favorite lead single she's done, if this is in fact, the lead single.

Posted by: Silas 25th July 2015, 10:33 AM

YES DELTA!!!!!!

Best $2.19 I've spent in a while! Such a tune! I get the Believe Again comparison and the outro is LUSH.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 26th July 2015, 08:32 PM

Posted by: Martyn 9th August 2015, 01:29 PM

Why did she bring the drum? She hits it with so little effort it is hilarious. Otherwise a great performance, this release strategy has been done so well done, so props to Delta and her team.

Jessie J does not look happy when it flashes onto her.

Brilliant performance, great to see her back on track after the kind of disastrous performance of Only Human!

Lmao I love the camera panning to Jessie and her clapping like she's being forced to at gunpoint.

It's almost like when The Veronicas got one not so long ago.

Doubt we'll get anything in the UK but would be nice to see it have a little bit of a push. Anyone know where we can find out sales for Wings at all?

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 15th August 2015, 02:38 PM

Sales info usually comes out on Sundays. At an estimate, she's probably just gone over 30,000 overall sales to date.

I never thought she'd get another #1 so to see this do so well, especially after Love Thy Will Be Done and Only Human's complete lack of impact, is so great to see, with a brilliant track too. G'won Delta heart.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 8th September 2015, 04:44 PM

Brilliant!

The more I listen to this, the more I think it could stand a chance of being a small hit here (like maybe 'You Ruin Me') if they gave it a push, it's the sort of thing I could see Capital playing at least.

Posted by: JosephBieber 8th September 2015, 04:52 PM

It wouldn't sound out of place at ALL on Radio 1 or Capital but you just know on name alone they won't support her and it'll be shoved to Radio 2 sad.gif

Posted by: gooddelta 8th September 2015, 04:53 PM

In a perfect world I'd love to envisage this getting the support it needs to become a hit but the very best I could imagine would be a Radio 2 spot and a top 100 sales chart peak maybe? The chances of Capital, Heart or Radio 1 going for it are slim to none as she's no doubt deemed beyond irrelevant here sad.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 8th September 2015, 04:56 PM

Are Capital as bad as Radio 1 when it comes to refusing to support stuff on name alone? I know they playlisted recent-ish singles by Kylie and Madonna.

Posted by: JosephBieber 8th September 2015, 05:05 PM

That's true, but I still can't see them going for Delta sadly sad.gif Especially considering the last push she got here was 10 years ago.

Posted by: gooddelta 8th September 2015, 05:48 PM

I'm absolutely DYING for a UK gig, she's never actually played a single one here has she? Despite a near million-selling debut album.

Posted by: Liаm 8th September 2015, 05:50 PM

If they just judged the song it would easily fit in on Capital and Radio 1 I agree, but they'll look at her name and just pass her off as irrelevant so sadly I can't see them supporting it, Radio 2 will have to do sad.gif

She performed most of the Innocent Eyes singles in full too which was amazing wub.gif My opinion of her has gone higher than ever, as if it could have gone any higher.

That sounds like such a special night, glad to hear you enjoyed it so much heart.gif

Are you going to G-A-Y on Sat Joseph?

Posted by: Juranamo 9th October 2015, 06:52 AM

I have to admit, when I saw your selfie with Delta on Facebook I did make me smile! Really glad you got to meet her, also it shows that meeting your hero (or in this case heroine tongue.gif) isn't always a bad thing!

Posted by: gooddelta 9th October 2015, 08:07 AM

Yeah, I'm often hesitant to meet anyone I love, just in case it shatters my illusion of them. Thankfully not in this case.

Aww shame sad.gif I really hope this trip makes her realise she still has a dedicated UK fanbase. Even a couple of nights at a small London/Manchester venue or something like that would be amazing.

Posted by: paul_pdc 9th October 2015, 05:51 PM

I was at the gig last night too. Delta was amazing. First time seen her live. Even better was that i met her, got autograph, had a photo and a hug

Posted by: gooddelta 9th October 2015, 07:14 PM

I see she's just been on Strictly Come Dancing - It Takes Two...! Amazing that she's getting these media gigs, aahhhh why won't radio just bloody play Wings!?!

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 9th October 2015, 11:40 PM

A night at Shepherds Bush would be fab!

I'm glad Gooddelta met her though. He's been a huge fan since forever smile.gif

The GAY gig was just as phenomenal, in a different way. Believe Again in full with the full production is probably one of the musical highlights of my life wub.gif Seemed weird that she performed Born To Try in the original version in the middle of a packed club night though laugh.gif

Wings was amazing as ever and Dancing With A Broken Heart was surprising both by its inclusion in the set and how great it sounded live!

Delta will think you are stalking her now Rich. sad.gif

Posted by: Juranamo 11th October 2015, 08:11 AM

'Dancing With a Broken Heart' is immensely underrated. I wasn't there obviously, but I would have loved to have heard it live!

Lovely read. It's a shame she came with 8 days notice otherwise I could have cleared some time up sad.gif. But at least if anyone got to meet her, you did. happy.gif

I thought fans were generally quite lukewarm about it. Sounded great live though.

Predictable is relatively well known in the UK somehow, I often hear it in shops and quite a few of my friends know it, despite not knowing how, so they must have heard it somewhere. Should have been a 5th single or a double a-side with Not Me, Not I in the UK.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 13th October 2015, 10:56 PM

Well I was gonna say tbh I didn't think DWABH was that well liked?!

Posted by: AaronTM 19th October 2015, 11:46 AM

I've only recently heard this and actually it's quite good. I'm not usually especially interested in Delta, but it's quite different to what I've heard from her before. It could easily be hit, given the right support.

So the UK "impact date" is this week right?

I knew the likelihood of it doing anything was slim to none but I was vaguely hopeful we could get a chart scrape out of it. sad.gif

It was so good wub.gif

And so is this, natch.

Yeah the impact date should have been the week she was over here, but there's no point of having a fixed date anyway, if radio and TV refuse to play the song there's nothing at all she can do about it.

Nice wee write up too:

QUOTE
Dancefloor Delta! Wings found the sweet spot between Calvin Harris and Stevie Nicks, but those sky-high euphoric vocals and classical piano flourishes were pure Delta. Even commercial radio remembered she’s one of our most successful pop artists for good reason. This will either start or close Delta concerts for years to come, it’s that kind of tune.

Nice of News.com.au to remember her! The Murdoch empire controls the aussie media so this is a good showing! The Courier Mail has a near total monopoly over newspaper sales in Queensland so it's probably the most influential bit of print media in that state.
