Joseph's Hit 250: Year-End 2017
Click the banner above to visit my end-of-year countdown! Chart Commentary The quiet seasonal period has come to a rather abrupt end this week, as my top 5 sees almost a 100% clearout with four new songs climbing in. The first of which is our new #1, courtesy of Liam Payne and Rita Ora. As a member of One Direction, Liam achieved eleven #1 singles, but as a soloist, he's not gone higher than #18 (with Strip That Down). For You is therefore his first top 10 hit, finally becoming the fifth and final One Direction member to achieve a solo top 10. He's also the third 1D member to get a #1 hit, following Harry (Sign of the Times) and Louis (Just Hold On, Back to You, Miss You). Rita however is no stranger to the top spot, notching a third #1 within six months with For You! It's her seventh #1 overall, coming five and a half years after How We Do (Party) gave her a debut chart topper. Rita bookends this week's top 10, as her previous #1 hit Anywhere drops two spots to #10, not having left the top 10 since it originally entered. Liam Payne 2017 18 Strip That Down (feat. (1+ weeks) Already releasing the comeback single of the year, Troye Sivan storms to a #2 debut with My My My! less than 48 hours after it was released. This is a highly impressive debut, and the last time a song made such a big impression in a short window was when Harry Styles' Sign of the Times debuted at #1 on the day of release. Its success is impressive but not surprising, considering this is the first single of Troye's as a lead artist since his Blue Neighbourhood album, which is the biggest album in the history of my chart - spending 14 weeks at #1, and notching up its 93rd week in my top 15 this week, also at #2. My My My! is a dead cert for #1 next week, which would be Troye's third chart topper, but for now it settles at #2, his tenth top 10 hit. (1+ weeks) This week's highest climber comes from Ina Wroldsen, whose track Strongest shoots up 26 places to #3. It's her highest charting hit to date, previously featuring on two top 10 hits and providing uncredited vocals for another (#6 hit How Deep Is Your Love by Calvin Harris and Disciples). Ina's previous personal best was the #5 peak achieved by Breathe, a Jax Jones track, at the tail end of 2017. This is her first chart entry as a lead artist, and is boosted by both the original version and the Alan Walker remix. Ina Wroldsen 2017 10 Places (Martin Solveig feat. (2+ weeks) Completing this week's batch of new top 10 hits, Bruno Mars scores his biggest hit to date as Finesse is straight in at #5. Bruno's never achieved a top 10 hit before, his previous best being the #13 peak of Uptown Funk, so a top 5 debut is highly impressive. Finesse is helped by guest vocals from Cardi B, who also scores her first top 10 hit. There's double Cardi in this week's chart. as Bartier Cardi is new at #13. Both Finesse and Bartier Cardi outpeak the #27 high achieved by her only other hit, Bodak Yellow. Bruno Mars 2013 40 When I Was Your Man | 2 | 40-X (1 week) 2014 13 Uptown Funk (Mark Ronson feat. (1+ weeks) 2018 13 Bartier Cardi (feat. 21 Savage) | 2 | 13-... (1+ weeks) Elsewhere this week, we see chart debuts from 21 Savage and Cassie. The latter would undoubtedly have scored a couple of hits in 2006 had I compiled a chart back then (at 9 years old lmao x), with Long Way 2 Go being a particular favourite of mine. Don't Play It Safe is the first new song of hers I've heard since then, and it enters at #39. Katie Garfield achieves a new personal best. We also see a new entry from Arlissa, with help from Jonas Blue, on Hearts Ain't Gonna Lie. This is her first hit since 2012, when Hard to Love Somebody (with Nas) peaked at #12. As a result, I've revisited Hard to Love Somebody for the first time in a long time this week and it actually re-enters higher than her new track! In the album chart, Camila Cabello soars to #1 as her long-awaited debut album Camila is finally released. She achieved two #1 albums as part of Fifth Harmony, and now matches the other girls' tally of three #1s (as the four-piece self-titled Fifth Harmony album also made #1). Hello Joseph!
Great top 3! I also like the debuts of "Finesse" and "Hearts Ain't Gonna Lie"! And finally it's nice to see "Camila" at the top of the album chart, it will probably make a big impact in my chart next week! Great chart overall! |

Hey Joseph!
1. Liam Payne & Rita Ora - For You - 1- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** This is pretty decent I guess, not amazing but definitely a grower. Sounds way more Rita than Liam though! 2. Troye Sivan - My My My! - 2- This is great, I wonder if it can actually give him his first proper hit? I won't hold my breath but fingers crossed. 5. Bruno Mars feat. Cardi B - Finesse - 5- This is the most 90s sounding song I've heard for quite some time. I'm actually surprised it's doing as well as it is. 8. Charli XCX feat. Tove Lo & ALMA - Out of My Head - 4-8- 9. Anne-Marie - Then - 1-4-5-9- Wow didn't realise you'd had this at #1. It's no Ciao Adios but it's a vast improvement on Heavy I wonder what's taking R1 so long to playlist it though? 10. Rita Ora - Anywhere - 12-1-1-1-1-1-1-3-5-8-10-8-10- 11. Zak Abel - Still Want UUU - 28-13-6-4-7-6-11- Good choice of single, such a shame he seems destined not to get any hits. 12. Lily Allen feat. Giggs - Trigger Bang - 1-2-5-7-12- 14. Dua Lipa - IDGAF - 15-14- 15. Camila Cabello - Never Be the Same - 19-30-31-18-15- 16. Not3s & Mabel - My Lover - 17-15-12-16- 17. PRETTYMUCH feat. French Montana - No More - 2-2-5-8-10-17- 19. Clean Bandit feat. Julia Michaels - I Miss You - 7-8-2-2-3-6-8-14-16-16-19- 22. Jax Jones feat. Ina Wroldsen - Breathe - 5-12-19-24-17-22- 23. Rak-Su feat. Wyclef Jean & Naughty Boy - Dimelo - 7-13-20-22-21-23- 25. Louis Tomlinson - Miss You - 1-4-10-14-19-25- Poor Louis, I wonder if that's it for his solo career? I quite like this in a Busted 2003 sort of way 26. Jason Derulo feat. French Montana - Tip Toe - 17-20-23-29-38-X-26- 32. P!nk - Beautiful Trauma - 40-25-15-14-18-21-26-32- 33. Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug - Havana - 13-16-21-17-10-11-12-14-5-6-11-10-2-4-3-5-9-14-18-23-29-28-33- ** LONGEST RUNNER ** 37. Alan Walker, Noah Cyrus & Digital Farm Animals - All Falls Down - 21-18-18-8-5-9-15-21-32-30-37- 38. Arlissa & Jonas Blue - Hearts Ain't Gonna Lie - 38- This is so good, just love that chorus! Hoping radio get on board and it can become a hit in a few weeks! Excellent chart |

Hi Joseph!
Well that's a rather large climb for Strongest I really like it, a really catchy song with a lyrics that are a bit more hitting than your typical breakup song Was surprised at how not-dreadful Finesse was It's actually pretty catchy! Great chart |
