I did search for a thread as I thought one would have been made when this was announced, but no joy....

This looks quite interesting, it's Fox's latest reality show based on a format by John De Mol (the creator of The Voice and Big Brother franchises) which I believe had been broadcast in the Netherlands already. Basically there are 15 people known as "pioneers" who are basically put in the middle of nowhere with just a few basics for a year, during that time they have to build up a society from scratch. Each months there'll be people voted off just like on Big Brother. There are live feeds available 24/7, they went live today I believe, but the show will be shown three times a week for six weeks/months I believe (can't remember which I read it was :lol) and then twice a week from then on. They've pumped millions into it, they seem quite confident... I'm not sure it will be a ratings hit, and if it is I'm not sure it'll last. It seems pretty ambitious and could easily fall totally flat but who knows?

The cast are:
Aaron, a 24 year old chef
Amanda, a 30 year old behaviour specialist
Andrea, a 38 year old raw vegan chef
Bella, a 45 year old real estate entrepreneur
Bri, a 20 year old veterinary technician
Chris, a 25 year old chilli farmer
Dave, an unemployed 26 year old
Dedeker, a 26 year old belly dancer
Hex, an unemployed 25 year old
Jonathan, a 44 year old pastor
Josh, a 36 year old contractor
Mike, a 33 year old attorney
Nikki, a 29 year old holistic doctor
Red, a 42 year old handyman
Rob, a 38 year old security programmer

Although Andrea was booted off before filming began for breaking rules, apparently she found a way to contact the others while they were in isolation or something like that...

I'm very excited to see this, not sure it will work and may fail to hold my attention but it's an interesting concept.

Won't last. I remember Fox's "smash hit" Forever Eden, which was supposed to be a show with no ending.
It ended up being pulled from Fox after 7 episodes. It actually started to air right around the Reality TV Boom in the states when Big Brother and Survivor really took off, but was poorly managed by Fox as they juggled it around their schedule.

I can see this possibly outlasting that - but I give it maybe a month or two tops. I do like the live feed element, but Fox does not do Reality TV well at all.
I have heard that this show will have a vote off element, more or less for people not pulling their weight.. but there is no actual prize at the end of it.

On that note - Forever Eden was actually a fantastic Reality TV Show. Excellent casting. Excellent premise. Absolutely loved it - although they only aired 7 episodes in the States (it did end up getting a full broadcast later on Foxes Reality TV Network (now defunct), but it did air in other countries and was an absolute smash in those countries.

Some stuff I was able to figure out:

- One chick is pregnant.
- Live feed started tonight, it's free, but horrible. Premium feeds come at a cost.

Apparently one chick got so drunk last night she needed to leave for medical reasons.
She's back now.

This was a huge flop in The Netherlands, so I can't imagine it being very succesful in the US either

Yeah the premiere convinced me even more this won't work... It's not the sort of premise that fits the manipulation of reality TV. Hardly any of them are listening to each other and they're all such weirdos laugh.gif It was overall quite boring and shouty, it may improve though. There's no way I'll be interested for a year anyway, not that it'll last that long. I know it won't all work right away but they could have tried to get on at first laugh.gif

None of them are really that likeable either, I know that isn't necessarily the point of a show that isn't competitive but still I'd rather watch likeable people. Amanda is sassy though, I like her.

The ratings are already down to 0.9 :/ I think they only started on like 2.0 or something around that, abysmal given how much they've spent! I can't say I didn't see it coming.

Is anyone still watching this? I watched episode 1 and somehow I forgot about it... I wasn't a huge fan though, didn't really like any of the characters. I'd be happy to watch some eps if you say that it improved A LOT.

I think I stopped at episode 3 laugh.gif I just couldn't get into it, and then I got so far behind I had no motivation to catch up.

Anyway, to the surprise of nobody this has been cancelled. They were only airing it once a week anyway I think, but episode on Friday was the last to be aired. It was so obviously not going to work, I know they could only try and you never know what might have happened but to assume it would run for the whole 12 months with a decent viewership was very ambitious. I think it just seemed much better as an idea on paper than it actually turned out to be...
