Busted - On What You're On to be successful please!

Very funky and COMPLETELY different to what they've ever done!

Posted by: Davidson 29th September 2016, 11:04 PM

Expecting The Chainsmokers, Niall Horan and The Weeknd to go in reasonably high initially.

Posted by: Davidson 29th September 2016, 11:07 PM

Lol didn't even bother to check if Niall had released yet.

It's a bit dull isn't it? Hope it doesn't stick around too long.

Posted by: ___∆___ 29th September 2016, 11:10 PM

Niall going for the Ronan Keating market.

Some good additions to the 59p club this week - Years & Years, Zara Larsson, Craig David etc.,

Posted by: Ryan. 29th September 2016, 11:13 PM

And most importantly, Margaret's Cool Me Down is 59p and advertised on the home page in that section! ohmy.gif (Not sure if this is a new thing or not but we'll roll with it)

1283. Margaret - Cool Me Down

Zara's video premieres at some point today, too! Great timing for her ohmy.gif

Love the Busted track - reminds me of something Maroon 5 or Onerepublic would kind of do.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 29th September 2016, 11:20 PM

Margaret to do something please!

Also is G.R.L not out?

Not sure if it's been added since but when I checked the other day, it was only on Apple Music, not iTunes drama.gif

Not added to iTunes yet - Just seen this looks like a self funded release and on first listen I'm disappointed.

G'won Busted. They're "officially premiering" it on Scott Mills's show tomorrow! biggrin.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ 30th September 2016, 12:33 AM

Huge The Chainsmokers fan but 'All We Know' is just a poor mans 'Closer' - Not sure what the excitement about it is but kudos to them for coming for that 3rd smash in what seems like a few weeks.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th September 2016, 01:32 AM

Niall Horan has probaly no chance of number 1 or even top 10 as the sales from Thursday will take away from this weeks sales, unless streaming works well for him he will most likely be lucky to go top 30. Huge and silly mistake releasing on Thursday.

It will be interesting to see how Busted chart next week, Nathan Skyes looks like he could flop hard with the new single.

Posted by: Tombo 30th September 2016, 02:43 AM

The new Robbie track is odd, I'm not sure what to make of it yet.

The new busted track is very different for them.

The new G.R.L. song is good but it doesn't seem to be about yet.

The new Major Lazer is dope af, I love it.

The new Galantis is very Sigala - ABC, it's not my fave atm but it could be a grower.

Posted by: Bjork 30th September 2016, 05:54 AM

Tom Odell - True Colours???? As in the Cyndi Lauper song?? But he just released a new single the other week (Here I Am)... confusing

His version is spelled with a U as opposed to Cyndi Lauper and Justin Timberlake who's versions are spelled without the U. Speaking of JT, his version could dominate the charts when "Trolls" hits the cinemas. I hope it does

Very testosterone-heavy release week - it's like the male version of Diva Day back in 2008. laugh.gif

Niall's song isn't that bad actually. ohmy.gif It gives me Hey There Delilah vibes... I don't know if he will be able to cut out a successful solo career long-term though. With him I think the music is very crucial since he doesn't have the "star power" of Harry and Zayn.

Posted by: Bjork 30th September 2016, 10:23 AM

sounds too much like a Ronan Keating comeback single :/

157. Empire Cast, Mariah Carey & Jussie Smollett - Infamous

YES! heart.gif

Posted by: Mango 30th September 2016, 10:39 AM

Loving all the new music this week biggrin.gif

My thoughts:

DNCE - Body Moves: sounds better than Toothbrush already.
Busted - On What You're On: sounds nothing like I expected but very funky, quite a bop! AND, was that a saxophone solo I heard in the middle?!
Niall Horan - This Town: nice enough but a bit boring.
The Chainsmokers - All We Know: agree with others' comments that this is a poor man's Closer.
The Weeknd - False Alarm: really like this!
Robbie Williams - Party Like A Russian: not quite sure what to make of this yet. It's very different!
Major Lazer - Believer: quite catchy, I think this could easily become another hit for them with radio support.
Galantis - Love On Me: also very catchy, should easliy give them another hit.
David Guetta - Would I Lie To You: what exactly is the point of this remix? unsure.gif

Long live New Music Fridays!

Posted by: RobBob 30th September 2016, 01:17 PM

I don't think The Chainsmokers being at #15 is underperforming at all, while there's a lot of hype around them, they're hardly the type with a big fanbase eagerly expecting the next release. And I feel like this has been put out quite low key aswell, so I'd say it's doing very well right now.

Oh okay, fair enough, I expect they won't enter TOO high on that either but the climb will be pretty quick much like Closer. I think it's another top 5 at least.

Seconded. Why isn't this the single instead of the generic Sigala song? If 99 Souls could be a hit, then why not this... even if the beat might be too recent.

Does Craig David's 16 sample "Where Are U Now"? Love it.

Posted by: liamk97 30th September 2016, 09:44 PM

I'm not saying this as a hater, but Niall has always seemed to me like the 1D member people cared the least about so I'm not too surprised he hasn't raced to #1 with a gigantic lead. I've not heard any hype even today about the song, although that could just be because I've not been looking in the right places.

I think it is too soon to be sampling Where Are U Now

I don't get why Craig's songs are all flopping, he was really hyped up but has mainly had low charting songs, I do like the Sigala one though.

The album is really good also biggrin.gif

Or, as was the case in 2001...the what-I-call "Emma Bunton syndrome". Most pleasant member of the band but otherwise unlikely to be a 'star' in the long run. I've now all of a sudden just thought of that scene from Ab Fab (with Emma Bunton, funnily enough) where Edina lets rip at her for not being tabloidy enough: "They don't wanna know your mum your's best friend darling! They want you filleted and splayed on the butcher's blocks so they can photograph all your organs for Heat magazine!"

Anyway, back on topic...not really feeling the new Robbie single. It's no "Candy", put it that way. He was very funny on Graham Norton mind, as was JT!

I wouldn't put Niall and Emma in the same category. laugh.gif Emma was the Spice Girl most of the girls in my primary school wanted to be - she was very popular in general. Niall is probably the most anonymous 1D member. Louis (for some crazy reason) has his fans but it surely can't be for his voice?

Posted by: JosephStyles 1st October 2016, 12:13 PM

Liam's always felt like the "anonymous" member to me, speaking as someone who follows many 1D fans on Twitter etc, rather than Niall who gets a lot of attention I think! To the general public I guess Niall is the one that's in the papers the least though.

It's strange because on X Factor Liam always seemed equal popularity to Harry, a lot of people focused on his Bieber haircut at the time iirc! But yeah, as the years have passed, despite having a good voice and being one of the best songwriters in the group, he just comes across as a bit dull really.

Louis is annoying but in the media all the time and very well known, Niall seems quite popular due to his cheeky personality and Harry is obviously by far the most popular and famous (Zayn was second before he left).

Posted by: mdh 2nd October 2016, 09:20 AM

I look at Digital Sales Data regularly, and today I've noticed the #100 is selling the most it's ever been for a few months. For the last few weeks the threshold to get into the top 100 was around 170 sales where as it's up to around 200 right now, which is quite nice.

AND, this time last week, only the top 17 had sold over 1000 copies, HOWEVER right now the whole top 30 are selling over 1000 copies a day cheer.gif

AND, Say You Won't Let Go is selling around 9000 copies a day right now - compared to an average of like 6800 of late.

Any reasons for this spike in sales?

Seems quite likely, it's surely a too little-known song to be plugged as much as it has been with no ulterior motive. Guess they're trying to get viewers used to it so it sounds instantly recognisable by the time the final rolls around.

I don't remember them plugging Forever Young at all last year, and it just seemed like the most random choice of winner's single ever, mainly because it's really not that anthemic at all, despite the efforts they made to try and make it so. Rise Up ticks all the usual boxes lyrically and musically that Forever Young failed to tick.

Who knows...potentially. It's on hot songs too.

Radio2 gave it a play on Saturday, so may also get support there.

Yes Forever Young is a funny one, must just be a favourite of Simon. It was also due to be One Direction's winner's single of course.

Simon said Rise Up is one of his favourite songs so really does seem probable that it's being considered for the winner's single - though really it would suit a girl and I'm sure they want Matt to win.

That was a different Forever Young, their version actually leaked a while ago!

But I agree, Louisa's Forever Young was an odd choice, I liked her version but it was never a hit really.

^ That was actually the Forever Young I was hoping for when I saw Louisa was covering that. Was utterly disappointed with the actual choice.

Oh yeah I knew that, I'm getting confused! The Bob Dylan one was on Jahmene Douglas's album, so that's the link I meant to point out.

The top 10 has provided it with a great impact and the fact that it's on the third song featured in "hot tracks" has helped, in hoping it could go top 3 on iTunes before Friday but at least we are looking likely of seeing Zara going top 10 next week with airplay no doubt about to dramatically increase

Posted by: Jonjo 4th October 2016, 10:20 PM

Would love 'Ain't My Fault' to be the first solo female act #1 of the year (highly doubt it with Bruno releasing on Friday!)

Would love for Little Mix to do it with their new one in a couple of weeks, but I'm not hopeful after the disastrous year for women in chart music atm!! drama.gif

Haha. Yeah. That's just terrible wording on my behalf! Lmao. Sorry. I meant that with Bruno releasing, I doubt there will be a female led number 1 this year laugh.gif I can see Bruno holding onto the top spot for a lengthy time (unless he decides to give us his own 'Perfect Illusion' ofc) and then I think Chainsmokers could get another couple of weeks at some point with their new one.

Is that for absolute certain we're getting Little Mix in a couple of weeks?

Posted by: Jonjo 5th October 2016, 07:04 AM

Not "certain" but the next couple of weeks is the rumoured timeline for the new single!

Posted by: Bjork 5th October 2016, 07:07 AM

if the album drops Nov 18, they confirmed it themselves on a radio show, that means a new single should arrive soon

Posted by: Joe. 5th October 2016, 10:00 AM

All online rumours seem to point to Little Mix releasing next Friday, with a probable X Factor performance following on the Sunday.

Their last on air release was Love Me Like You, which charted at #21 though, they've never been streaming machines, even with Black Magic, but their profile has gained a lot since last year, so I can see a top 5 debut for them. I cannot, however, see them getting a #1 anytime soon.

it's out as Grat too so sure the regular fans will preorder the album not buy the single

much better than Perfect Illusion, and she sings it better too, but still doesn't have the oomph of early singles

I'd say easily top 40 for Gaga

I suppose if Britney could reach #26 with a Grat, Gaga can do better.

A good grat CAN save the era though. Look what 'Do What U Want' did for the era! It prevented it from being an even more flop of an era after 'Venus' wasn't doing anything despite being announced as the 2nd single (IIRC).

Posted by: Bjork 6th October 2016, 11:02 AM

yes Do What U Want was promoted from Grat to proper single and venus demoted...

Posted by: mr_pmt 6th October 2016, 11:06 AM

I'm pretty sure 'Do What U Want' became the second single after the reaction to it, before anyone had heard 'Venus'.

Posted by: Bjork 6th October 2016, 11:09 AM

pretty sure there was an online voting thing for the 2nd single, and Venus won, but then they ignored it and chose Do What U Want...
