Haim have confirmed on this post that new music will be releasing before they play Pitchfork Music Fest which is on July 19th.

Can't wait biggrin.gif

Posted by: Theonix 11th April 2019, 07:06 AM

I don't think that post necessarily confirmed an album is coming but I'm looking forward to hearing new songs from them! Something to Tell You feels very underrated/forgotten now sad.gif

Posted by: Juan Carlos 16th July 2019, 08:51 PM

The initials of their new song are SG.

I assume nothing is coming out today then? Must have changed their mind for it not to be out before they play that festival.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 19th July 2019, 01:36 PM

It's called 'Summer Girl' and they did perform it live!

Posted by: Dan17F1 19th July 2019, 02:01 PM

Ahhh thanks! Completely missed that.

Posted by: Bjork 20th July 2019, 05:36 PM

Summer Girl sounds nice

was checking tehir setlist and they played 2 Paula Cole covers, any particular reason?
they did the only 2 Paula Cole songs that are popular, Where have all the Cowboys Gone, which was a US top 10 and UK top 20,
and I Don't Wanna Wait, which was never a hit but it's famous for being the Dawsons Creek song...
Paula Cole is amazing, one of the most underrated female singer songwriters ever, so glad Haim did a sorta homage to her, not sure why, but very welcome

Posted by: Bjork 20th July 2019, 05:40 PM

found their Where Have all the Cowboys Gone cover, it's great!!!

love the description: This was funny and weird and epic at the same time

and heres their cover of the other Paula Cole song, I Don't Wanna Wait

Reportedly to be out next week. "Summer Girl" samples "Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed, who shares writing credits, alongside Ariel Rechtshaid and Rostam Batmanglij.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 25th July 2019, 07:49 PM

Rostam formerly of Vampire Weekend!

summer girl is out tomo. so excited to start releasing new music as we’re working on it - kinda like we did before our first album. we finished this song a couple weeks ago and thought, why don’t we shoot something real quick and release it ! (more on the video tomorrow) this song started out as a garage band demo in my phone with just a bass line, drums, some gibberish and a doot doot doot little melody. I wrote it around the time my partner was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago while we were making STTY. (he’s in the clear now!) we were touring on and off at this time and every time we were on the phone with each other or when I would come home in between shows, I wanted to be this light that shined on him when he was feeling very dark. I wanted to be his hope when he was feeling hopeless. so I kept singing these lines - I’m your sunny girl/ I’m your fuzzy girl/ I’m your summer girl - over the bass line. summer girl stuck. fast forward to a couple months ago -I remembered this demo and pulled it up from my phone. I brought it to my friend rostam to see if he wanted to work on it. he wrote the sax part within the first couple minutes of working on it and it all clicked. we were kinda joking about how the doot doot doot part reminded us of walk on the wild side and then he put this stand up bass part on top of the electric bass part and It sounded amazing! the palette was there- v inspired by Lou. and we kept it that way. I brought it back to my partner Ariel- where the inspo first started - and he put some finishing touches on it and here we are ! hope u guys vibe with it - ur summer girl in italy 😊 d

I have seen mixed reactions to this but it's beautiful — the story of how the song was made, too.

Great new direction.

Posted by: Bjork 1st August 2019, 09:44 AM

yes the story behind the song is very touching

In a press statement, Danielle Haim said she started writing the song after her partner was diagnosed with cancer. “ I was on tour and felt like I was trying to send positive energy his way almost telepathically. Whenever I would come home in between shows I wanted to be his sunshine - his summer when he was feeling dark. His hope when he was feeling hopeless.”

Her partner Ariel Rechtshaid, who also produced the song.

It's wonderful — the sax and tweak in sound really works for them

I think he's been their producer for a while, not sure for their debut but sure he produced album 2

I like this. I don’t quite love it yet but I definitely welcome the attempt to do something a bit different from their first two albums. Love the sax!

Posted by: Jαsє 5th August 2019, 08:49 PM

omg this is SUBLIME. The jazz element is really unexpected but it really works wub.gif

Posted by: SLlewellyn 5th August 2019, 09:56 PM

This has grown on me massively - hope it can get some radio support.

Posted by: Bré 6th August 2019, 04:30 PM

I think this will definitely be a grower but I am liking it, the saxophone is lovely! I enjoyed the singles from their last album but I don't really feel any great desire to return to them, kind of felt like more of the same from the debut but a little watered down, so it's probably a good idea for them to switch up their sound a bit for this album.

Posted by: Juan Carlos 6th October 2019, 02:32 AM

Their new single is called "Now I'm In It" and it will be released later this month.

From https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/oct/05/haim-we-can-go-toe-to-toe-with-any-male-rock-band-and-blow-them-out-of-the-water:
QUOTE
That darkness can be heard in the band's new material, which marks something of a musical departure, particularly on two emotionally brutal songs, "Hallelujah", a reflection on loss and recovery, and "Now I'm in It", a breathy pop ballad in which Danielle sings she feels 'alone in my head'.

"People think "Now I'm in It" is a break-up song because I sing: 'We can't be friends' but I'm talking about me and my mind. It was gnarly and I was not OK with myself," says Danielle.

"There were times when collectively all of us were kind of spiralling," says Este. "I was wanting to support my sister but also supporting her boyfriend; he wanted to get back to work and that was good but I felt guilty that we were sort of making him do the record... I felt like I had to be strong all the time but most people with type 1 diabetes have depression. You start to get resentful of the disease. But to have my sisters take care of me, and remind me that I wanna dance at my great-granddaughter's wedding, "Hallelujah" is a reflection of how lucky we are to have each other."

Posted by: Juan Carlos 14th October 2019, 02:16 AM

I hope they rush-release "Now I'm In It". It's really good and I prefer this over "Summer Girl", which I also liked as well.

Posted by: Juan Carlos 25th October 2019, 04:35 PM

"Now I'm In It" will be released on Wednesday.

Posted by: Juan Carlos 30th October 2019, 03:00 PM

The music video premieres at 12:30pm. PST / 3:30pm. EDT / 7:30pm. GMT, so it's likely to be chosen as the Hottest Record on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show today.

I was so indifferent about their last album but these two singles have both been fantastic.

Posted by: lewistgreen 30th October 2019, 10:19 PM

Posted by: Bjork 31st October 2019, 06:10 PM

summer girl was nice but kinda was going nowhere, this is much stronger

Posted by: Wicked Wombat of the West 31st October 2019, 10:43 PM

That's not a Stevie Nicks sample is it? Sounds so much like Edge of Seventeen ohmy.gif

Really loving this and Summer Girl, great in different ways. This is definitely the kind of artistic progression I wanted from them last era that we didn't quite get, although I could watch them walking down a road all day, hypnotising *.

Posted by: Bré 2nd November 2019, 02:47 AM

This sounds great on first listen, not as radical a departure from the old HAIM sound as 'Summer Girl' was but it's a very nice natural progression (and as much as I love 'Summer Girl' I'm kind of happy about that, it's nice to hear a more HAIM-y HAIM song again). heart.gif Excited to see where else they'll be going with this album.

Posted by: Klaus 2nd November 2019, 10:55 AM

Loving ‘Now I’m In It’ so much already, a real return to form! Appreciate what ‘Summer Girl’ was doing but wasn’t something I ever really returned to.

Posted by: lewistgreen 18th November 2019, 06:54 PM

Hallelujah now available

Posted by: Bjork 18th November 2019, 07:19 PM

nice but why not properly push Now Im In It instead and having added to spotify playlists, thats the best thing they've ever done

Posted by: lewistgreen 22nd November 2019, 07:54 AM

Now I’m In It has been playlisted by Radio 1!

Posted by: Bré 25th November 2019, 05:58 PM

Not feeling 'Hallelujah' as much as the previous 2 singles on first listen but it's a pleasant listen, could see it being a grower. Has a bit of a Simon & Garfunkel sound to it.

Coincidentally (?) they actually have released a cover of a Leonard Cohen song this week as well (for a Hanukkah compilation), although it's not 'Hallelujah':

Also sounding pleasant enough ~

Posted by: dandy* 25th November 2019, 08:03 PM

3/3 for me. I love that they're all sounding so different from each other yet all are pretty great happy.gif

Posted by: RobBot 8th January 2020, 02:12 PM

Had no idea where else to post this but I've never f***ed with HAIM much at all, but I heard Now I'm In It on Radio 1 a couple of days ago and it might be the first time I've ever loved a song of theirs. There's a tone to their (?) voices I find slightly grating and unpleasant but it's not as noticeable on that song so I'm a fan!

Posted by: Bjork 8th January 2020, 04:34 PM

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd March 2020, 08:50 PM

'The Steps' is out now!

Posted by: Bjork 6th March 2020, 11:42 AM

I think I preferred the previous singles, not crazy about it on 1st listen

Posted by: dandy* 6th March 2020, 12:46 PM

Me neither. It's okay but it's not a patch on the three that came before it.

Posted by: blacksquare 6th March 2020, 02:16 PM

It's very Sheryl Crow — I quite like it. I do agree that the singles last year were better but I have faith the album is going to be great, and the worthy successor to their debut.

Posted by: Bjork 7th March 2020, 08:43 AM

love how everyone seems to compare them to Sheryl Crow!! wink.gif

Posted by: Steve201 8th March 2020, 10:03 AM

I actually like it better than their previous releases, quite instant. Seems to be the first proper single from the album as the others are listed as the final tracks/bonus tracks on the album. This is track 2!

Posted by: Bré 8th March 2020, 05:57 PM

Not really feeling this song at all oops. Not encouraging when the previous singles (i.e. the ones I liked) are seemingly demoted to bonus tracks, I hope the rest of the album isn't going to be like this one...!

You're right, it is like Sheryl Crow. I used to like her a lot in the late 90s so I may be here for this if it sounds like The Steps after all.

Posted by: Bjork 9th March 2020, 09:09 AM

I love early Sheryl Crow so sounding like her is always good
really makes no sense to put the 3 singles at the end of the album,
especially I'm on It, which is the best thing they've ever done
and it was out 4-5 months ago, I could understand if it was out 2 years ago

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 9th March 2020, 09:36 AM

I actually find the fact 'Now I'm In It' has been demoted to a bonus track really upsetting.

Posted by: Cremey 9th March 2020, 01:49 PM

The Steps didn’t grab me on first listen but I’m obsessed with it now. Love all four from the album so far. I’ve loved both albums but this is feeling like a step up.

Like everyone else I don’t get the reason for the first three being bonus tracks. They’re apparently on all versions anyway though so they might as well just be part of the standard version? Odd.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 9th March 2020, 02:04 PM

I'd rank the tracks so far:

1. Now I'm In It
2. The Steps
3. Summer Girl
4. Hallelujah

I actually forgot Hallelujah was a song and had to look it up, but I really like the other 3.

Posted by: Cremey 9th March 2020, 05:37 PM

I think my order would be the same. 3 seems way too low for Summer Girl, it’s so perfectly breezy and fun, but the other two are just undeniable. Ugh SWOON.

Posted by: Bré 9th March 2020, 06:42 PM

Now I'm In It > Summer Girl >> Hallelujah >>>>> The Steps

'Hallelujah' did grow on me so maybe this new one could as well but it was just kind of in one ear out the other on first listen for me.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 23rd March 2020, 04:32 PM

This has been pushed back to 'later this summer'.

Posted by: Bjork 23rd March 2020, 05:19 PM

ohhh too bad

really enjoying The Steps at the moment, I don't get why their label don't push it harder and have it added to playlists

The Steps is definitely a grower and love how 90s-Sheryl Crow it is, reminds of Everyday is a Winding Road or If If Makes you Happy

still think Now I'm In It is the best of the lot, that's a 10 of a song and also is more modern-sounding and shows more evolution than The Steps

'The Steps' is class like.

That's fair, this sort of sums up a lot of the problems with it I think. But each to their own - https://www.reddit.com/r/LetsTalkMusic/comments/8839vk/a_personal_farewell_to_pitchfork/

Lately a lot of Pitchfork reviews have been spot on (Phoebe Bridgers, Haim, Fiona Apple)
I know Pitchfork are very US-centered and they hate UK and especially Irish artists
so I do take Pitchfork reviews into account but always with a bit of perspective

"3am" sounds that it's going to be huge.
This is their focus track in AUS/NZ, while "Gasoline" is their focus track in the UK. Both tracks have been added to their respective New Music Friday playlists on Spotify.

Why on Earth do they hate Irish artists lol?

08 Los Angeles
08 The Steps
09 I Know Alone
08.5 Up From A Dream
08 Gasoline
06 3am
07.5 Don't Wanna
04.5 Another Try
08 Leaning On You
05 I've Been Down
06.5 Man From The Magazine
06.5 All That Ever Mattered
08 FUBT
11 Now I'm In It
07 Hallelujah
08 Summer Girl

a solid album, better than album two but def not reaching the heights of album one. I feel this is an album that works better as a whole than listening to individual tracks regularly. Now I'm In It is the CLEAR highlight and has become one of my fave songs ever of theirs, I wish there were a couple more songs with a similar-ish vibe to it.

Posted by: dandy* 26th June 2020, 09:12 AM

Just finished my first run through and I really loved it. So many influences showing through but still that sense of fun that Haim usually have, I'm particularly loving the Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell sounds to some of the tracks. Particular stand outs on first listen are Up From a Dream, Gasoline, Leaning On You, Man From the Magazine and All That Ever Mattered as well as basically all the tracks we already know wub.gif

Going to have a full listen clearing out my bedroom later, ahhhh I can't wait.

Posted by: blacksquare 26th June 2020, 02:48 PM

This album feels like a classic album that was released years ago — I had a similar feeling when listening to 'NFR!' for the first time.

I'm really impressed with the amount of sounds, genres, little production touches, etc that they have played around with.

So this is a massive step up from their last album! I kinda forgot it was released yesterday so only just got around to listening to it and it’s fantastic .. not up their with album 1 for me.. but it’s only been out for a day and album 1 was pretty immense!

Posted by: lewistgreen 28th June 2020, 08:52 AM

Love this. I think FUBT is my fave of the album tracks on first listen

Posted by: dandy* 28th June 2020, 11:54 AM

A few listens later and this is my favourite of theirs to date, everything just grows and grows wub.gif

I've slotted the singles back in to the album though as I don't like them tagged on as bonus tracks at all

Where did they find a home?

Posted by: dandy* 28th June 2020, 02:49 PM

Summer Girl track 2 as it compliments the vibe of Los Angeles well. Although I'm not adverse to it being the final track either as they make nice bookends in style.

Hallelujah and Now I'm In It slot in after Don't Wanna in that order.

Posted by: Bjork 28th June 2020, 03:14 PM

Now I'm In It should be in the 1st part of the album for sure

Posted by: John-James 28th June 2020, 09:46 PM

Another Try is absolutely stunning. Such a vibe.

Posted by: dandy* 30th June 2020, 05:04 PM

£4.99 on iTunes at the moment... I ended up downloading it for about £2 seeing as I'd already got a few singles to deduct from the price and also the download code in my vinyl doesn't work!

Posted by: LewisGT 30th June 2020, 05:08 PM

I thought this was a very solid album. There's no real weak points at all but there was also no song that really stood out for me.

That's a problem I've found with Haim in general, I like a lot of their songs but there's still only one song of theirs that I love.

I love their videos! wub.gif

love how they always walk in their videos

Posted by: Liam.k. 1st July 2020, 03:39 PM

I've had a listen to this album today and, honestly, I felt bored halfway through. sad.gif

I loved their debut album but I think they're just not for me anymore.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 1st July 2020, 09:35 PM

This is easily their best yet for me!

Have just given this album a listen now - I think the best, or at least most instant, songs are largely the ones that were already released so major highlights from the album tracks are a little thin on the ground but it's still an enjoyable listen overall (Jessie Ware definitely has the better of the two big albums released this week though). Having said that I do get the sense that most of the songs on here would probably be growers, this was my second listen of 'Gasoline' as I already gave it one listen when voting in WhoOdyssey's Track of the Week poll the other day and it's already sounded quite a bit better on second listen, would rank that as one of the main highlights of the album tracks alongside 'Los Angeles' and 'Leaning On You' on first listen. Even 'The Steps' is finally growing on me a little more now too. I will make sure to give the album another full listenthrough and hopefully that'll help at least another couple of songs to click with me more ~

The main disappointment here for me is that 'I Know Alone' ended up being quite an outlier sonically as that was and still is my favourite song on the album - appreciating the diversity of styles from track to track throughout this but I hoped they'd have at least one other song further exploring the garage / electronic tinged sound of that song! Also, much like the Jessie Ware album, found that the last few songs (excluding the bonus tracks obviously) kind of dipped into inessential / forgettable territory, I've only just finished the album and I don't really remember any distinct qualities about any of tracks 10-13 oops (I think one of them had a pretty good guitar part towards the end but I've forgotten which song it was!! 'All That Ever Mattered' I think? laugh.gif)

Posted by: StupidLove 2nd July 2020, 09:45 PM

I just can't get into this unfortunately. Still I hope they claim that #1 album tomorrow! The girls deserve it and I love I've Been Down.

Posted by: dandy* 3rd July 2020, 09:08 AM

Stick with it all Bré! I've found myself listening to this every day this week and I love everything on it now, it's definitely my favourite of theirs to date. It helps that I really enjoy Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell etc so the sound is quite up my street.

Posted by: Bjork 3rd July 2020, 11:23 AM

haha a friend of mine was telling me the same, that I like the Haim album cos I like Sheryl Crow biggrin.gif

Posted by: blacksquare 14th September 2020, 10:06 AM

'Up from a Dream' has become a recent favourite of mine, and I think the album has to be one of the best of the year. All killer, no filler.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 7th October 2020, 05:59 PM

"Man From The Magazine" video out now:

Posted by: Chez Wombat 7th October 2020, 06:18 PM

I'm a little late as I'm finally catching up with 2020 albums I should've listened to earlier - I agree that this is easily their best album, it's so diverse and there's so little filler on there, I said it earlier (much earlier lol) but this was the artistic progression I really wanted from them that they didn't quite achieve last era.

I particularly love their lyrics and how they really exemplify what life is like for women in the industry and in life (that song above lyrically is definitely one of the best, those scenarios really do speak volumes). I do wish all the singles weren't just tacked on as bonus tracks though, they're all still wonderful.

Posted by: Grim Bréaper 18th October 2020, 02:55 PM

The video for 'Man From The Magazine' has definitely helped the song click with me a lot more, a powerful visual/concept (I didn't even remember if the song was one I liked when I first heard the album as most of the album tracks blur into one in my memory but looking back at my post here I see it was one of the songs that I said had no distinct memorable qualities to it kink.gif) - I never did get around to relistening to this album but maybe I finally will one of these days...

Posted by: dandy* 18th October 2020, 03:22 PM

Man From the Magazine is great, it's very much like a Joni Mitchell tribute but I think they really pull it off. This album remains one of my favourites of the year, I've already listened to it waaayyyy more often than any of their others.

Posted by: Steve201 21st October 2020, 10:13 PM

Yeh I give it a spin at least once a week since July and it’s pretty decent although sone of it does pass me by!

Posted by: HiyaWeen 23rd October 2020, 11:00 PM

I miss the effortless and timelessly breezy joys of their early singles but I do like some of this album. Nothing gets me massively in the feels though. Although also big fan of "but you don't know how it feels to be the (REDACTED)". Didn't see that coming! What's with people relegating most or all the singles that whet our appetites to 'bonus tracks'? The albums should be built around them surely. I do admire the whole "indie-rock En Vogue" vibe I get from them especially on this album even though I keep forgetting what the album tracks go like.

Posted by: Bjork 24th October 2020, 07:43 AM

those 3 singles tagged at the end were released much earlier than the rest

Re-issue of the album out February 19, including the aforementioned new version of "Gasoline" featuring Taylor Swift and "3am" featuring Thundercat.

Very very exciting!

Posted by: Bjork 4th February 2021, 03:33 PM

When is the single out? Could be great if they managed to get a belated hit for this album

Posted by: Bré 4th February 2021, 08:26 PM

I hope Taylor is just a background vocalist as payback for how little HAIM actually appeared in 'no body, no crime' basil.gif

Seriously though that's cool of Taylor to pay back the favour and 'Gasoline' was one of my favourite album tracks.
