thanks to polyhex and chartstats for these chart runs.
149. APOLOGIZE- One Republic & Timbaland
RELEASED: 2007
PEAK POSITION: 3
Still a song I love now all these years later though Overplayed at the time. Originally recorded for their album "Dreaming Out Loud" it was remixed by Timbland (AKA King of the charts 2007) for "Shock Value" and gave him his third hit from the album.
148. PAPARAZZI- Lady Gaga
RELEASED: 2009
PEAK POSITION: 4
The first of at least 4 appearances for the gags come in the form of this track whih was the third release from "The Fame" in a year when she was the biggest star in the universe- yes it's official!
147. DON'T CHA- Pussycat Dolls Ft Busta Rhymes
RELEASED: 2005
PEAK POSITION: 1
Could they actually sing or were they just pop puppets? Well in 2005 I think it's fair to say we weren't overly interested. Cracking track which is everything pop should be at the time- shame subsequent efforts were so POOR!
So far my version is out a bit in matched positions, I'll have to re look at my sales figs, I am confident I have the Top 5 correct.
Don't Cha I do love Nicole Scherzinger. What an entrance for her and her backing dancers
146. IGNITION (REMIX)- R Kelly
RELEASED: 2003
PEAK POSITION: 1
Meh, so-so hit from 2003. Actually VERY much better than his other No 1 "I Believe I can Fly" which is just cheese in CD form.
145. THE MAN WHO CAN'T BE MOVED- The Script
RELEASED: 2008
PEAK POSITION: 2
Funny what a TV programme can do for you. Pre "The Voice" this group was considered the very definition of bland, but suddenly they are the new U2 (or something) mystifying truely, anyway...........
Hearing this Gareth Gates song for the first time today. Wow, this is so crap
By the way I am copy-pasting the chart runs of the songs into my first post, incase you haven't noticed
144. ANYONE OF US (STUPID MISTAKE)- Gareth Gates
RELEASED: 2002
PEAK POSITION: 1
Yeah OK so I bought this, I don't actually mind it, which reminds me I watched "Star Stories" last night about Jordan and Peter Andre which had Gates's "Affair" with Jordan in it- ah memories......
143. AMERICAN BOY- Estelle Ft Kanye West
RELEASED: 2008
PEAK POSITION: 1
Became rather boring very quickly but time has allowed me to think more kindly of it, "1980" will forever be to me a far greater track for my money.
American Boy is one of my favourite songs from 2008 The Kanye West verse = life
142. I DON'T FEEL LIKE DANCING- Scissor Sisters
RELEASED: 2006
PEAK POSITION: 1
Inexplicably popular record from 2006, never understood the appeal of the group or this record, truly nausea inducing IMO.
This is a great song from the Sisters, it's a shame they've gone all generic Calvin Harris with their new single. I was hoping for something different after hearing 'Shady Love' (which got cancelled )
141. SWEAT- Snoop Dogg Vs David Guetta
RELEASED: 2011
PEAK POSITION: 4
I feel kinda wrong loving this but I do, probably for the delicious retro Felix sample!
Why are they playing the original? Last time I checked there was a video for the David Guetta remix. This is my first time hearing the non-remix version.
Oh, the Scissor Sisters’ I Don’t Feel Like Dancing and Estelle/Kanye’s American Boy are just bliss! Again, Kanye’s verse is just fantastic! I quite like Anyone of Us, too.
140. DANCE WITH ME TONIGHT- Olly Murs
RELEASED: 2011
PEAK POSITION: 1
Jury's out on Murs, some I love, some are OK, his tendancy for cod reggae I find mildly off putting.
139. GRACE KELLY- Mika
RELEASED: 2007
PEAK POSITION: 1
Easy to malign but entirely brilliant at the time and all kinds of wonderful!
I loved the noughties! Grace Kelly another classic for me!
Hello there Listened to the first hour of the show in bed but I've decided to drag myself out. I don't think I'll listen to all of it, I've got some homework and whatnot to do.
Great to hear Axel F again, I think it gets too much hate - it's obviously not good but I loved it when I was younger so I still have somewhat of a soft spot for it I was never a big fan of 'Apologize', 'Stop And Stare' was better. 'Paparazzi' isn't as good as I remember it being. Great to hear 'Don't Cha' and especially 'Ignition' again too And it's been in the chart for a few weeks recently anyway but 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' is superb, I wonder if it scraped its way in only since The Voice? 'Anyone Of Us (Stupid Mistake)' is another guilty pleasure 'American Boy' was alright, 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin'' sounds better than it should, 'Sweat' was AMAZE but that original version was a bit meh, it needs the production/sample. Very strange to be hearing 'Dance With Me Tonight' in a best sellers of the millennium list but I guess it's earned its place HSAB still to come or has that been outsold now? And finally, I loved 'Grace Kelly' at the time and I really enjoyed it there although Mika had better songs (namely 'We Are Golden' and the criminal flop 'Rain').
Phew. I won't comment after every song to save from horrible spam but maybe one comment every 10 songs or so
138. IRIS- Goo Goo Dolls
RELEASED: 1998
PEAK POSITION: 3
Reality TV has a lot to answer for- flopped the first time around....says it all
All rubbish songs so far.
So Olly Murs was very successful in 2007, according to Reggie...
137. HEART SKIPS A BEAT- Olly Murs Ft Rizzle Kicks
RELEASED: 2011
PEAK POSITION: 1
Far and away the best thing Murs has EVER done! The start always reminds me of a Happy mondays record circa 1990 for some reason?!
Ahh!!! Hung Up is possibly my favourite song of the 00's!!! That ABBA sample is fantastic!
136. HUNG UP- Madonna
RELEASED: 2005
PEAK POSITION: 1
Madonna and ABBA in one song- what's NOT to like? Fabulosity on every level from the queen of pop! Dodgy 'tard though....
136 is at least 100 places TOO LOW for this amazing song Hung Up is her best song ever!
Why Reggie did you have to cut it
This could be fun, but I could do without Reggie trying to be so painfully cool, whilst showing his usual ignorance of the music.
We're tuned in expecting a bit of nostalgia, in full knowledge that there will be some songs that haven't been played on Radio 1 for years, and that aren't to Reggie's tastes, but he doesn't need to be quite so judgemental about it. It spoils what should be a bit of fun.
I happened to love Gareth Gates' Anyone of Us, and I thought Reggie was over the top by spending so long telling everyone that they ought to think it's terrible. It was a massive international hit, so he can't just blame it on Pop Idol being massive. It just isn't his taste, and nothing wrong with that.
And if Reggie didn't spend so making sure everyone knows which songs he doesn't like, he wouldn't have had to cut Madonna short for the news. Several songs have been cut short. More songs, less Reggie moaning.
135. HALO- Beyonce
RELEASED: 2009
PEAK POSITION: 4
Amazing Beyonce gets a look in after the P**s poor Beyonce that ran the show with that silly "Single Ladies" thing/
134. DANCE WIV ME- Dizzee Rascal Ft Calvin Harris & Chrome
RELEASED: 2008
PEAK POSITION: 1
Oh yes, the best thing that Dizzee ever put his name to, but let's be honest this is mainly thanks to Calvin Harris who took a rapper with a dead career and turned it around in one step
133. I'M YOURS- Jason Mraz
RELEASED: 2008
PEAK POSITION: 11
Now known as Bruno Mars
132. WITHOUT ME- Eminem
RELEASED: 2002
PEAK POSITION: 1
Eminem on his finest form and back when he had SOMETHING to say- genius!
Incidently who's taking over at 10? Fraid I can't do it after then!
Eminem I love his Slim Shady songs, no rapper does it like Slim! Without Me is great but I do prefer The Real Slim Shady. (not sure if it's coming soon or not)
131. ANGEL- Shaggy Ft Reyvon
RELEASED:; 2001
PEAK POSITION: 1
Can someone pls PM me and explain Shaggy- FULLY. Thank you.
131-138:
'Iris' is a little overrated but still a good song and good that it finally became a big hit courtesy of reality TV. Great to see 'Heart Skips A Beat' still Olly's highest song for now, easily his best - DWMT will likely overtake it any second now though 'Hung Up' is great, I didn't realise at the time it was an ABBA sample. Significantly better than everything ABBA ever put out. I do quite like 'Halo' but not Beyoncé's best. 'Dance Wiv Me' is AMAZING But I guess its presence at #134 means no 'Bonkers', as I'm pretty sure DWM is still his biggest seller 'I'm Yours' is incredibly dull now but he's surpassed himself in the dull stakes with his new 'song', at least IY is vaguely catchy... 'Without Me' is great, one of Eminem's best in a generally pretty strong catalogue. 'Angel' Not as good as 'It Wasn't Me', it's strange to think Shaggy was ever so massive.
I find this song boring, like most reggae - but I do like It Wasn't Me, which is still to come
130. LEAVE RIGHT NOW- Will Young
RELEASED: 2003
PEAK POSITION: 1
The first indication the man was here to stay? NATURALLY both fantastic and amazing.
129. DO IT LIKE A DUDE- Jessie J
RELEASED: 2010
PEAK POSITION: 2
STILL the best thing she's released IMO
128. LEGO HOUSE- Ed Sheeran
RELEASED: 2011
PEAK POSITION: 5
Lovely little Ed Sheeran- inoffensive guitar folk/ rock- surely bound to go down as James Blunt/ James Morrison Mk II.
127. WRITTEN IN THE STARS- Tinie Tempah Ft Eric Turner
RELEASED: 2010
PEAK POSITION: 1
Apparently this is No 127 though why Reggie is playing "Pass Out" is a mystery?!
Reggie Why are you playing Pass Out after introducing Written In The Stars?
126. HEAVEN- DJ Sammy Ft Yanou & Do
RELEASED: 2002
PEAK POSITION: 1
Bryan Adams in dance makover SHOCKER! Actually worked a treat though- GLOWSTICK-TASTIC
C'mon Buzzjackers- Who wants to host at 10? Or the thread will grind to a halt....
125. F**K IT (DON'T WANT YOU BACK)- Eamon
RELEASED: 2004
PEAK POSITION: 1
Almost forgot all about this- thank god it outsold it the evilness that was Frankee.
124. VALERIE- Mark Ronson Ft Amy Winehouse
RELEASED: 2007
PEAK POSITION: 2
Literally EVERYWHERE in late 2007 and had it not been for those Sugababes it would also have been No 1.
123. BONKERS- Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden
RELEASED: 2009
PEAK POSITION: 1
Alwful song- without a redeeming feature- AT ALL
122. WHEN LOVE TAKES OVER- David Guetta Ft Kelly Rowland
RELEASED: 2009
PEAK POSITION: 1
Bloody AMAZING- GREAT- FANTASTIC- BRILLIANT. There, that pretty much sums it up.
121-130:
I do love a bit of 'Leave Right Now', the third best song produced by Pop Idol I reckon, behind 'Jealousy' and 'Come On' 'Do It Like A Dude' is horrendous, no idea how it's this high. I'm not bored of 'Lego House' yet, great to see it in here and looking forward to seeing where 'The A Team' lands. 'Written In The Stars' is Tinie's best song IMO, shame we didn't actually hear it there (although 'Pass Out' is great too). 'Heaven' is pretty good, I can see why Reggie was framing it as some awful thing there though, very eurocheese. That Eamon thing can go die, never wanted to hear that again. 'Valerie' is great, shame it's the only Amy we'll be hearing today (AFAIA anyway? She had a couple of other long-running hits but I'm pretty sure only 'Valerie' sold in significant enough amounts to make an appearance here). 'Bonkers' is fantastic, one of my favourite #1s of the decade so far, didn't realise it had outsold DWM so a pleasant surprise to see it in here! 'When Love Takes Over' is very meh, I'll just pretend it's 'Clocks' (although Coldplay do have two songs to come anyway). And Las Ketchup...
You've got me hosting now for an hour before M!key takes over for another hour... then something else will happen. We'll see
121. THE KETCHUP SONG (ASEREJE)- Las Ketchup
RELEASED: 2002
PEAK POSITION: 1
Ever been in a club, drunk, dancing to this, pretending to know the words, with a tequila in your hand?.............just me then?
Thanks to Bre who takes over for an hour before you got Martin at 11! After that I'm still looking for volunteers?!
C'mon let's have a real Buzzjack effort from you all- go on you'll love it!
120. Florence + The Machine - You've Got The Love
2009/10
#5
Florence and co's take on the classic by The Source feat. Candi Staton - it takes a lot for a cover of an already classic song to become even more instilled in the public's imagination than the original, but Florence arguably managed it with this.
Although it's interesting, I'm glad I'm not listening to this. It seems a poor representation of the millennium so far given the sales collapse we had from 2003-2006.
119. Spiller - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)
2000
#1
A good old early 2000s dance music one-hit wonder. It introduced the world to its uncredited featured vocalist Sophie Ellis-Bextor who'd go on to have reasonable chart success in her own right, scoring two #2 hits but never hitting #1 again.
Surprised that Florence & The Machine song is so high up- shows the strong sales of 2009-2011 period!
118. Example - Changed The Way You Kiss Me
2011
#1
Example's biggest hit to date, the first of two #1s off his third studio album 'Playing In The Shadows' (also a #1). I'm in a minority that prefers follow-up #1 hit 'Stay Awake' but both of these are incredible songs.
People viewing the thread, don't be scared to comment and make it look less like I'm talking to myself
117. LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight The Moonlight
2000
#1
A rare 'country' singer in the UK charts but this song is far from country - I can tell from the fact it's actually quite good LeAnn's only other song of note was in the 90s (1998's 'How Do I Live') and she's flopped of late, 2011 album 'Lady & Gentlemen' reaching just #96.
Tuned in to listen online... Half of the time they're talking about the dvd videos they're bravely using... So THIS is RADIO in 2012 then?
I get that Jason Mraz's video is full of clichés but so are the presenters
116. Jessie J - Domino
2011/2
#1
The second appearance from Ms. J, slightly less horrifically awful than 'Do It Like A Dude'. This song, from the Platinum Edition of debut album 'Who You Are', became her second #1 hit earlier this year as well as going top 10 in the USA.
I got the impression that that Fearne Cotton person has had a job on tv before which is nice because she's clearly not a radio presenter.
Reggie I already knew and he was awful as usual but hey what can you do.
ha, ha, its Xmas...
It feels very Christmassy at the moment I usually hate listening to Xmas songs when it's not Xmas but this is an exception, what a great song!
115. The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York
1987 + various seasonal re-entries
#2 (#3 during the millennium)
The greatest Christmas song of all time, enough said. A bit strange to hear it in May but such is the nature of the countdown.
I'm back from having a life!
I love Can't Fight the Moonlight, Groovejet, You've Got the Love, The Ketchup Song (a classic from when I was younger), Valerie, Do It Like a Dude and Leave Right Now! So wierd to hear a Christmas song in May!
Will Mariah Feature?
Taking over from Bre at 11am for an hour, if anyone wants a gig for an hour or 2, let me know.
114. Helping Haiti - Everybody Hurts
2010
#1
The earthquake in Haiti in 2010 was obviously a horrible tragedy and I don't wish to make light of it at all but another horrible side effect of it is that we had to sit through two #1 weeks of this ultra dreary cover of the R.E.M. classic by a variety of X Factor artists and other guests. This seemed to be the end of successful charity songs until the equally dull Military Wives thing showed up at Christmas last year.
I LIKE THE HELPING HATI COVER OF EVERYBODY HURTS.
There, I said it!
113. Flo Rida feat. T-Pain - Low
2008
#2
The debut single from rapper Flo Rida (guess which American state he's from!), it was a massive hit here but even bigger in his native USA where it spent ten weeks at #1. I personally really like this but I realise I'm probably in a minority of BuzzJack there - Rida has had more BJ-friendly songs since though.
I'd be happy to host an hour if need be probably not more than that though, have a few things to do
I intended to listen to this from the start, but I overslept very surprised Iris made it in but great news anyway! quite large drops for some of these since the 2009 one of these, I guess the likes Crazy Frog & Las Ketchup have pretty much sold their last copy
Low This is one of my favourite songs of all time and it's my 2nd favourite song from Flo. It says a lot about how much I love his big songs! His minor hits however deserve to stay like that. Turn Around and Who Dat Girl are both not very good.
112. Aloe Blacc - I Need A Dollar
2011
#2
First released in early 2010, 'I Need A Dollar' took its time to hit the UK but when it did it did it big, becoming a huge hit that only just missed #1. This sounded quite out of place in the charts at the time but since then it's not too hard to imagine something like this being a hit again. Blacc hasn't managed to take advantage of that though and this remains his only hit so far, though album 'Good Things' reached #8.
Viva la Vida is my favourite Coldplay song - infact, I don't think that they have ever produced a bad song!
111. Coldplay - Viva La Vida
2008
#1
I'm going to go ahead and proclaim this the best song on the countdown today, allowing for the possibility I may have forgotten about something to come. Absolutely incredible anthemic song from my second favourite band of all time. Much love This was their first of two UK #1 hits, the other one is still to come.
110. Chris Brown feat. Benny Benassi - Beautiful People
2011
#4
Despite Rihannagate, Chris Brown was probably at his biggest (in the UK at least) last year - 'Beautiful People' isn't his highest peaking single but it is his highest seller and fairly deservedly so. It also saw a return to the upper reaches of the chart after eight years away for Italian DJ Benny Benassi, of 2003's 'Satisfaction'.
109 Rihanna - Rude Boy
2010
Peak: #2
109. Rihanna - Rude Boy
2010
#2
Speaking of Rihanna, here's the second single from her fourth studio album 'Rated R'. It equalled the peak of previous single 'Russian Roulette' but very deservedly outsold it by quite a lot.
I see M!key has already posted it but I've already done this 'marvellous commentary' and I'm NOT WASTING IT.
Beautiful People is SO boring! Much prefer Yeah 3x and She's Ain't You.
The differences between end of 2009 chart and now are staggering if correct - Elvis & JXL were at #31 in that chart and now 108????
108 Elvis vs. JXL - A Little Less Conversation
Peak #1
That's my parents happy!
Martin I've put the schedule in the chart mods lounge for you to keep track as i'm off out soon!
107 Beyonce - Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
2008
#7
Love the dance routines
It's strange to see mega-hits like Grace Kelly and I Don't Feel Like dancing down so low.
Great to hear Number 1 again! I used to hate it when it first came out, but then I loved it! I think I used to know all the lyrics too!
106 Tinchy Stryder feat. N-Dubz - Number One
2009
#1
God I really hate this track. Worst #1 of the year.
Single Ladies peaked at 7, not 8!
105 S Club 7 - Never Had A Dream Come True
2000
#1
S Club 7 on Radio 1, you don't hear that outside of Scott Mills What an absolute classic.
Can do! (just need to turn my computer on, currently on my phone).
104 Plan B- She Said
2010
103 Flo Rida - Good Feeling
2011
Peak: #1
102 Bruno Mars - Lazy Song
2010
# 1
101 Katy Perry - Hot N' Cold
2008
#4
This brings memories, love the video.
'The Lazy Song' is diabolical. Shame that so many awful songs are amongst such classics from Mika/Scissor Sisters/Coldplay etc.
I love that S Club 7 song Least they still have one song in the top 100. You must need 650k to make the top 100 now. Amazing considering at the end of 2009, it was 450ish I think.
Does anyone have an estimate for The Crazy Frog at #150, i.e. what the cut off point is for this chart? Thanks in advance!
I think I prefer the Midnight Beast version!
Just twigged that it's available to view on the Radio 1 site (though I only tuned in about 15 minutes ago..)!
100 Ke$ha - Tik Tok
2009
#4
Ke$ha - #4, released in 2009!
Rock DJ was 2004???
99 Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
2004
#1
that's the second time Fearne has said a 2000 song was from 2004!
(speaking of which, I think Eamon may have dropped out of the 150, which means we'll only have 2004 song in the whole list )
One of the best Robbie Williams songs! Last part of the video isn't too great though!
This is what I have been waiting for! Great Girls Aloud tune!
Bless Fearne getting all the release dates wrong. And did she just say One True Voice won the show? They didn't. By getting to #1, Girls Aloud "won" the battle, which was the premise of the show.
98 Girls Aloud - Sound Of The Underground
2002
#1
My favourite GA track
Did Fearne say Sound of the Underground was from 2004? I remember when they premiered the single!!!!
This countdown is kinda disappointing though. It seems like it's just some "fairly" big hits from the past few years, with a few songs from 2000-2002 thrown in occasionally. I was hoping for a bit of a nostalgia trip.
Rock DJ and Sound of the Underground are amazing, and were massive when they came out. Beautiful People and I Need a Dollar weren't really that big...
97 Duffy - Mercy
2008
#1
I think it's clear that there is a SIGNIFICANT shake up from the 2009 chart due to the download age! Some of these songs are taking 60+ place drops!!
Boom Boom Pow?!?!?
Thanks to Martin for hosing for an Hour- and welcome our new host CW!!
Does anyone want to host from 1?
I like The Time (Dirty Bit)...I'll go stand in that corner again!
The Time (The Dirty Bit) I love this song, it's up there with my top 5 BEP songs! Haven't heard this in ages, sounds so fresh
Duffy sounds like Donald Duck's attempt at a music career. Shame that Robbie and GA will be out of the top 100 soon. Defining songs of the early 2000s.
The Time is pretty good. We've got 4 more songs from the BEPs left then. I think it'll be Boom Boom Pow next, then Where is the Love?, then Meet Me Halfway, then I Gotta Feeling.
edit
Hello, I'll be your host for your next hour
96. Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit) (2010) (#1)
and not a good way to start...vile massacre of an 80s classic (which admittedly sounds a lot better in a club) still, it prevented what would've been an even worse number 1...
BEP top 5
1 - Boom Boom Pow
2 - I Gotta Feeling
3 - My Humps
4 - The Time (The Dirty Bit)
5 - Pump It
95. Take That - Patience (2006) (#1)
ah, that's better, absolutely sublime song from Take That Truly what all the Wanted's & One Direction's of this world should turn into once they mature
I couldn't believe The Time got to #1, actually I couldn't remember it peaking there. Its their worst #1 to date.
Patience is awful, so so so dull. I'm not even a massive fan but I think it would be down there with their worst (Said It All being right at the very bottom of the pit...)
My favourite Take That songs are Shine and Love Love.
94. Lady Gaga - Born This Way (2011) (#3)
the top 100 of the decade already, not exactly the massive flop everyone was making out was it? I actually really like this, its no Bad Romance, but those are pretty quotable lyrics
'Patience' potentially the second best song in the list behind VLV I didn't love this so much when it first came out but it's grown massively since then!
'The Time (Dirty Bit)' was a bit of a weird #1 looking back but I still like it. 'Mercy' is shockingly awful, 'Sound Of The Underground' and 'Rock DJ' are both great and good to hear them again (Robbie has a really good discography actually, Rock DJ is one of his less good songs that I've heard and I still really like it!), haven't heard 'TiK ToK' for a while either but didn't sound too great there.
'Hot N Cold' is Katy's second best single behind 'E.T.' for me 'The Lazy Song' is given too much hate here, not a berilliant song but pleasant enough IMO. 'Good Feeling' sounds ridiculously old already. 'She Said' still sounds great. 'Never Had A Dream Come True' is god awful, SC7 were god awful in general really. 'Number 1' still sounding good, 'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)' still sounding god awful as well and 'A Little Less Conversation' is amaze, absolutely loved it when I was younger - and I thought at the time Elvis was still alive and was shocked to find out he'd died before I was born
'Born This Way' is pretty meh.
-x-
Right, caught up on the comments there I'm going to switch off at 1pm to do some homework and shiz, might tune in again a bit later but probably not. I'll just post the remainder of my comments in one big post (which I realise no one will read ) at the end.
Shocked Born This Way got here I remember all the calls of flop because it 'only' debuted and peaked at #3, but it sold decently and I'm glad of that! Not her very best but still amazing.
93. The Killers - Human (2008) (#3)
And another amazing song it did get slightly overplayed, but still sounds excellent now that I hear it less often. The biggest hit from one of the most successful acts of their genre of the decade!
I haven't been following sales particularly closely this year - had no idea 'What Makes You Beautiful' had racked up this number of sales.
Did anyone think What Makes You Beautiful was going to be such a massive worldwide smash when they first heard it?
92. One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful (2011) (#1)
well, that's very high already I'm guessing this is one of if not the highest selling boyband song on here? a surprisingly great debut from One Direction, one that would appeal to far more than just their core fanbase
Lol that comment from Fearne made it sound like the chart is overloaded with Katy Perry. This is only the second song of hers to feature so far.
91. Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl (2008) (#1)
the song that started it all for Katy Perry! in all truth, this seems rather tacky nowadays & has lost its novelty. She has since proved she can do much better than this
LOVE LOVE LOVE "I Kissed A Girl" - from the pen of Cathy Dennis what do you expect?
Forgot how hot that video is........droooooool
Still looking for hosts at 1? C'mon peoples we've done so well so far!
I'm sitting here in shock that anyone could claim that The Time (Piece-a-shit) is has any redeeming musical qualities what so ever.
90. Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce - Telephone (2010) (#1)
Here she is again, whilst this remains very good, its not aged that well and were it not for the video, a pretty forgettable hit from her
Telephone sounds like a slightly sped up version of The Way I Are (which I'm disappointed to see isn't in the top 150 btw, that tune was bigger than loads of the songs that made it).
Isn't it obvious who's #1?
I love all the memories attached to these songs - good or bad
89. Nickelback - Rockstar (2008) (#2)
UGH unfunny & turgid, why couldn't it be Gotta Be Somebody that had this success
This list is quite interesting in terms of the '2000s Decade' sellers... i.e. which old tunes have had the best catalogue sales during 2010/11/12. I think it's Gezza who's added in this data to the first post!
Ugh. The way she said "Nelly Furtado was next", I thought it was going to be Maneater or something. That's yet another song that should be in the top 150 imo.
Broken Strings is quite nice, but I got driven crazy by how it was played on the radio so much. Same goes for I'm Like a Bird.
88. James Morrison & Nelly Furtado - Broken Strings (2009) (#2)
ah, that's a bit better, a little overplayed/overrated, but still a very nice song, certainly an excellently done duet, I don't think we've seen a stronger one since!
Hips Don't Lie!?!?!?!?
Never liked Broken Strings. There's something about the verse that I hate - the chorus is better. It would have been better left acoustic instead of having the drums.
87. Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie (2006) (#1)
No fightin' this still sounds pretty great, not really 'nostalgia' as such, but one that takes me back
ah...Summer 06 was filled with this song. I kinda enjoyed it.
Ugh Broken Strings? Nice enough track but how has it sold more than the likes of Maneater, Promiscuous and I'm Like A Bird?
HIPS DON'T LIE Always surprised at how low this is on these countdowns, feels much bigger. Wherever Whenever still to come though, another classic!
Hips Don't Lie
Dynamite is so boring lol.
86. Taio Cruz - Dynamite (2010) (#1)
this must've surpassed Break Your Heart? (edit: indeed it has by quite a bit ) anyway, fun club banger from Taio, believe it or not, he's British
Sonique
Where is she now?
Gosh, does Fearne think EVERYTHING was from 2004?
I've never seen this video version of Sonique's song. Lol at 2004.
85. Sonique - It Feels So Good (2000) (#1)
ITS 2000 NOT 2004! *ahem* anyway, not really nostalgia as I didn't know this at the time, but a great song
and its 85 not 83, touché
Huge for 'S&M'.
Rihanna "S&M" Still a great song!
Also very nice to hear Sonique 'It Feels So Good' , it definately stands out with the 2008/9/10/11 songs
last one from me, I'll hand you over to Jay (if he hasn't already started )
84. Rihanna - S&M (2011) (#3)
now here's a naughty song controversy aside, this is a terrible song imo
I can't find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful.
I'm ready! Thanks C.W!
Thanks CW!
How much did Crazy Frog sold? wonder where could be Britney with Womanizer (405,000) or with Oops!... I Did It Again (450,000) ?
83. Shakira - Whenever, Wherever (2002) (#2)
Cruelly denied the #1 spot, this is one of my personal highlights from 2002.
Probably in the top 5 songs that should've been #1 but was cruelly robbed
Brilliant track, that she still hasn't topped for me a decade on.
Looking forward to hearing Rage Against the Machine. I hope I haven't missed it.
82. David Guetta feat. Akon - Sexy Chick (2009) (#1)
One of the biggest hits of summer 2009, with 8 weeks spent in the Top 5 - including one at the top spot. This is the second of 5 #1 hits for Guetta.
Wow. Sexy Chick comes on just after I decide to randomly quote it. lmao. I only thought of the song because S&M sounds, like, exactly the same, and I thought that lyric was appropriate for Rihanna.
81. Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love (2003) (#1)
The song that catapulted the Black Eyed Peas to super stardom! 6 weeks at #1, and the best selling hit of 2003.
I thought that Whenever, Wherever sold 800k! Oh well, still a great song!
Where is the Love? Now THIS gives me nostaliga.
This must mean Boom Boom Pow is approaching 800,000 sales?!
80. Beyoncé - If I Were A Boy (2008) (#1)
Here we have Beyoncé's biggest hit single! 'If I Were A Boy' was the launch single for her million-selling 2008 album 'I Am...Sasha Fierce'.
Lol at Scott! "Get on with the song"
tunne!
79. Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down (2009) (#4)
Alicia's solo re-working of her duet with Jay-Z. This huge smash helped Alicia achieve her first #1 album here!
I love this cover of Mad World, but I rekon that I am definatly alone!
Mad World.
So glad this was a Christmas number 1.
78. Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules - Mad World (2003) (#1)
2003's rather somber Christmas #1! Not to my taste, but this is certainly a classic.
77. Ellie Goulding - Your Song (2010) (#2)
An Elton John cover provided Ellie with her biggest hit. Prevented from #1 by X Factor Finalists' 'Heroes'.
any idea of the sales levels were at in the chart? ~800,000?
The weakness in the vocals made "Your Song" a rather disappointing cover. She's done better.
I guess Mad World is one of those songs which is loved by BuzzJack and hated by the public!
I love both versions of Empire State of Mind!
76. Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind (2009) (#2)
Here we are again, with some added Jay-Z! Alicia Keys' biggest hit, but will her solo reinterpretation eventually outsell this? Only time will tell!
Halo should be Beyonce's biggest selling hit TBH.
Surprised Set Fire To The Rain missed the top 150 as I'm Yours made it quite comfortable.
75. James Blunt - You're Beautiful (2005) (#1)
A 5 week stay at #1 for this tune. Love it or loathe it, it's undeniably one of 2005's most defining hits!
It says a lot about the high sales of recent years - and the low sales of 2005 - that something as huge and well-known as 'You're Beautiful' is so low Can't believe it's sold as much as Empire State of Mind!
SHocking that You're Beautiful is only #75.. That song defined 2005!
What level of sales are we talking about at this stage ? How much did "You're beautiful" sold ?
I like Wherever You Are, too... Alone?
74. Military Wives with Gareth Malone - Wherever You Are (2011) (#1)
The most recent Christmas #1, which thrashed X Factor winners Little Mix.
Not quite sure what sales level we're up to - 800,000ish?
73. Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow (2009) (#1)
After a three year break, the Peas made a triumphant return in 2009 with this transatlantic #1. However, even bigger success was to come with their next single!
Had no idea Boom Boom Pow was anywhere near as big as this - not complaining though, it's really good.
Hell yeah at Boom Boom Pow I remember thinking this was the greatest thing ever at the time, so many 2009 memories!
The worst song of the countdown (Military Wives) to the best song (Boom Boom Pow) WHAT A CONTRAST
Sexy and I Know It!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I missed Boom Boom Pow.
72. LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It (2011) (#5)
A peak of #5 (and that was its sole week in the Top 5) - 72nd biggest hit of the century! Its ridiculously lengthy stay in the UK Top 20 ensured the sales racked up.
Still can't believe how well this has done - it only spent one week in the top 5, and at #5! To sell so much since October is phenomonal. Still awesome though
Still in the top 40 this week at #33 too!
Boom Boom Pow is easily one of their best, shame the shit that is IGF beat it.
OH GOD Has this shite REALLY outsold classics like Sound Of The Underground and Hips Don't Lie? I have no words.
P.S. Meant 700,000ish.
Sexy And I Know It is on 719,000, according to Vidcapper.
I remember when hearing Airplanes for the first time I was sure that it was going to sell zillions of copies and be #1 for 10 weeks both in the US and UK. It didn't after all.
71. B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams - Airplanes (2010) (#1)
B.o.B's second #1 of 2010, and Hayley from Paramore's first time in the UK Top 10. One of my favourites from that year.
Thanks Jay- I'm back kids- by the way we need a host for the 3-4 slot!!
Thank god the original "Empire State of Mind" is still ahead of Part II.
Airplanes still sounds fantastic, and OMFG RAGE. Good time for me to wake up...
RAGE!
One of the best songs in the countdown.
Ooh can I have the 3-4 slot? I'm gonna be listening to this for a while
RAGE!!
Rage ! oh yes
Still 5 songs by Rihanna to come
I know I'm probably the only one, but I actually preferred Joe McElderry's song to this.
Thanks for having me guys! Lunch time for me now.
fireflies must be coming up soon, i'm suprised it's this high, I thought that airplanes had sold more than it
70. KILLING IN THE NAME....- Rage Against The Machine
RELEASED: 1993
PEAK POSITION: 1
Yeah who says we just buy what we're told Simon Cowell? Yeah, no I don't get the irony. Xmas Chart topper 2009- Merry chrsitmas- F you?!!!!
Woo! Rage! what a christmas that was!
wait, Joe McElderry isn't still to come is he?
70. Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name (2009) (#1)
Poor wee Joe McElderry was denied the Christmas #1 by this angry internet campaign to reclaim the Christmas #1 from X Factor contestants!
*That's me done now, bye*
Edit: *Too slow for Gezza*
Yay fireflies, the best song ever (imo)
I never fully got to know Fireflies, despite how much I heard it, since every radio station seemed to have a different version of the song.
I find Fireflies really forgotten - I never hear it on the radio and I don't hear people talk about it. I love it, though!
69. FIREFLIES- Owl City
RELEASED: 2010
PEAK POSITION: 1
Ah rather lovely even to this day, a bit of innocent pop! ONE HIT WONDER!
Wow, the pre-2009 songs are getting absolutely slaughtered compared to last time - will be interesting to see what the chart looks like in another three years, might be completely different again!
I've never really liked 'Fireflies', a lot of these January "Sound Of" number 1s I find pretty overrated. Nicely nostalgic of early 2010 though.
I wasn't heavily into this track, but I understood its success.
I barely hear this any more and its a shame, its wonderful
"Fireflies" just reminds me of that ridiculously cold January and walking to work in the snow for about 2 weeks. Not a fan of the song really.
Ugh. Labrinth.
68. EARTHQUAKE- Labrinth Ft Tinie Tempah
RELEASED: 2011
PEAK POSITION: 2
Hasn't the boy come a long way from his little guest spot on "Pass Out"- I rather enjoy this song though it's not my usual bag!
"Fireflies" is lovely, incredible that it's already been outsold by "Earthquake" though!
They're playing the full extended version as well!
As recently as October 2011, this song hadn't been released Another one that's sold a huge amount in such a short time. Haha, here comes Tinie..."YEAHHH!"
I'll Host 3-4 if you want Gezza!
I'm actually really enjoying this. Someone help me.
Fireflies is worth listening to from a production point of view. Earthquake is great and I didn't think it has sold this much.
I also realised the bloody average Chasing Cars is yet to come. It's depressing that it's so weak compared to better anthem by Doves, Embrace, Coldplay, etc....and yet as sold so much and will reach a million at some stage soon.
Lol, another single apparently released in November 2004. I wonder why they've made this mistake with so many old songs?
"Who Let The Dogs Out"
This had a weird chart run as well, any ideas why it went from 14-2?
13-14-{2}-4-2-3-3-4-6-6-5-5-5-7-18-23-30-40-45-46-55-59-68 (23 weeks)
Who Let The Dogs Out! some proper nostalgia here haha
67. WHO LET THE DOGS OUT- Ba-Ha Men
RELEASED: 2000
PEAK POSITION: 2
I had to get this one didn't I? Some of you young kids may like this song. This is just NOSTALGIA talking. It's drivel. Move along now.
My dad has just told me that he and his friends always sung Who Let the Dogs Out whenever a munter went into the pub!
Has Toca's Miracle been omitted yet again?
Who Let the Dogs out always brings a smile to my face.
Bad Boys is very average imo. Imagine how much it would've sold if she released All Night Long instead at that time!!
OMG, talk about a song you never hear anymore!!
This was massive in late 2009, everyone was singing it and now it's just been completely forgotten Alexandra has done some great songs over the years but they just don't seem to last!
Baha Men were the highest non-#1 (using that term in the literal sense on this occasion) in the 2009 list right? But there's at least three more of those to come in this one - Eminem, Maroon 5, Snow Patrol, any others? Two of those three are even worse than Baha Men (although I actually quite like WLTDO? for the nostalgia )
66. BAD BOYS- Alexandra Burke Ft Flo Rida
RELEASED: 2009
PEAK POSITION: 1
I rather like this despite Flo Rida, Alexandra if you can read this, MORE OF THIS PLEASE.
Haha it's weird that they're playing the soundtrack of the video, so Scott Mills has to audio-describe what's going on...
75. YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL- James Blunt
78. MAD WORLD- Michael Andrews Ft Gary Jules
79. EMPIRE STATE OF MIND PART II- Alicia Keys
Delighted my lunch skipped these three.
Loving Scott Mills' interpretation of the videos.
Haven't had Bad Boys FOREVER, but it sounds surprisingly fresh considering it was average at the time.
This really should be "Climax" here. Or at least "Yeah!".
Have I missed Take That - Rule the World, La Roux - In for the Kill, Kings of Leon - Use Somebody?
To quote Thom (CHCMedia), this sounds great in a club.
OMG (the song) - I actually hated this at first, I thought the lyrics were terrible...but then it became an ultimate song for me of summer 2010, and I've got tons of memories attached to it so I don't mind it anymore
65. O.M.G- Usher Ft Will.i.am
RELEASED: 2010
PEAK POSITION: 1
Poor old "yeah" which wipes the floor with this is wiped off the list in favour of this R N B/ Pop by numbers track.
Oh it's a shame 'Yeah' isn't on here though That song's ridiculously ahead of its time for 2004, synths everywhere!
The best bit of OMG is where it turns into an RnB beat at the end.
Alexandra Burke.....is not Leona Lewis.
Leona Lewis did a superb cover of Run I love the orginal too.
OMG is really average, shame that this is representing him sales wise when its one of his most uninspired tracks
It's a shame the original isn't on here, I love "Run" by Snow Patrol - so much better than "Chasing Cars". This is an average cover frankly.
"And next...Alexandra Burke"
*Leona's 'Run' starts playing*
"...is not Leona Lewis, sometimes I get confused. Sorry, was reading the wrong list" Nicely saved.
Call it sacrelidge but I like this as much as the Snow Patrol original!
64. RUN- Leona Lewis
RELEASED: 2008
PEAK POSITION: 1
LOVE this song, in the SP version but I can't make out what she sings on this- CALM DOWN LOVE- why is everthing a DRAMA?
Yep, this is still lifeless turd. Could we not kill two birds with one stone and remove both this and "Chasing Cars" in favour of the original?
nope, sorry, the original any day for me then again this is decent, unlike a certain other cover she did
I adore Leona's cover of this song.
63. TITANIUM- David Guetta Ft Sia
RELEASED: 2011
PEAK POSITION: 1
The Gooddelta of the charts? Universally liked and still selling like the proverbial....
In an ideal world, this and Fun's 'We Are Young' would be the top two biggest sellers of the year. Not G***e and C***y R*e J****n
Schedule today
3-4 BillyH
4-5 Randomfurlong
5-6 Lee Wallace
6-7 Gezza
A summer smash in 2011 and a summer smash in 2012.
Titanium makes Guetta tolerable. I love it.
How many songs do we reckon have cleared 800,000 sales?
ooh great to see this is Guetta's highest selling as a lead artist (unless I've completely forgotten something )
62. CALIFORNIA GURLS- Katy Perry Ft Snoop Dogg
RELEASED: 2010
PEAK POSITION: 1
When hasn't she been in the charts since this came out? NU-RIHANNA
Its far too cold and grey outside for California Gurls, this song was made for summer BBQ's!
So how many copies are we talking about now?
I know that there are still 5 songs by Rihanna to appear on the chart.
First of those should be Umbrella which is around 785K.
"California Gurls" doesn't sounds quite right in the DRIZZLE!
Great to see 'Titanium' feature.
Oh, and I *loved* OMG by Usher.
Am I the only one singing "California Gurls" to the melody of Marina's Primadonna every time I see it mentioned in a post?
"Her boyfriend's a gick"?
61. TEENAGE DIRTBAG- Wheatus
RELEASED: 2001
PEAK POSITION: 2
Another universally popular tune from back in the day unless your BRAY in which case it's satan's own tune!
I love Teenage Dirtbag! really takes you back to the very early 00's and all the 'teen' movies like American Pie, and the pop/punk American bands. The fact that American Pie now had a reunion film out makes me feel very old indeed.
WOW at Teenage Dirtbag Another classic!
California Gurls video makes me want candy
The first post contains an updated chart if you missed anything. Just FYI really
lol @ hit getting confused between Teenage Dream and California Gurls.
Time for the Inbetweeners' dance moves!
This just makes me think of The Inbetweeners now.
An 11-year old just called in asking for McFly?!
We No Speak Americano is such an amazing song.
60. WE NO SPEAK AMERICANO- Yolanda Be Cool Vs D-Cup
RELEASED: 2010
PEAK POSITION: 1
"Doop" for 2010.
Americano - absolute monster of a song. So many 2010 memories!
All Saints: Pure Shores, a very underrated song, ahead of its time IMO.
My favourite All Saints song by far!
59. PURE SHORES- All Saints
RELEASED: 2000
PEAK POSITION: 1
PURE CLASS. Mind you with Orbit at the helm in 2000 it couldn't be much else.
Oh wow, this is so old I was still in primary school when this came out Yeah this is a great song, second biggest seller of 2000 I think?
Ooh, I forgot this was coming actually! classic song I guess only Bob The Builder still to come for 2000
'Pure Shores', one of my favourite songs. I remember receiving this CD single for my 12th birthday.
We No Speak Americano is just vile.
Pure Shores, on the other hand, is definitely one of the best All Saints songs!
Pure Shores
Can't beat the Eminem classics! I only wish We Made You (BEST video in the WORLD) was as big!
58. LOSE YOURSELF- Eminem
RELEASED: 2002
PEAK POSITION: 1
Another prime slice of GREAT Eminem. In 2002 he could do little wrong from the "8 Mile" film (Never seen rumoured to be quite pants)
Possibly Eminem's best three songs are also his highest-selling, but in the wrong order for me - this isn't "Stan" (what is?) but it's still an absolute classic. Undeniable hook as well.
Lose Yourself! One of his best
Ugh, it's annoying me a little because all of these songs are great, but there's so many awful charity and reality TV winners to come. Oh well, I'll enjoy these while they last!
'Lose Yourself' is probably my favourite Eminem single, either that or 'Love The Way You Lie'.
S Club 7. This is one of the best pop songs ever.
One of my all time favourite songs! Always gets the party started in my house!
Ok, hello everyone!
First off, my favourite song in the chart went long ago at number 139 But still some classics to come!
57. S Club 7 - DON'T STOP MOVIN' (2001) (#1)
What a song to start off with! Childhood anthem from the slightly-less-good-than-Steps-but-still-awesome pop band
57. DON'T STOP MOVING- S Club 7
RELEASED: 2001
PEAK POSITION: 1
Certified CLASSIC in exactly 24 countries. JUST BELIEVE
Just gooooo with the magic baby don't pretend you don't love this!
That's me over and out- back at 6 for the BIG 10- Over to your new host BillyH!
Call Me Maybe and Moves Like Jagger sound a lot like Don't Stop Movin' imo.
My little sisters used to be obsessed with Rachel Stevens.
I love the blonde woman's solo part nearer the end!
S Club 7 - my whole childhood revolved around them!
Lose Yourself is a classic and probably in my top 10 songs ever and Don't Stop Movin is also a classic and probably the only S Club 7 song I like
I'm not sure if this was mentioned earlier. Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love at #81, and S Club 7 - Don't Stop Movin' at #57... but in the 2000s decade sales:
Is it wrong that I prefer Westlife's version of Uptown Girl to the orginal?
Thanks Gezza! Soz for jumping the gun a little, S Club brought it all back for me
56. Westlife - UPTOWN GIRL (2001) (#1)
Nowhere near as good as my namesake's original, but for Westlife it's a good song.
S Club Juniors >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> S Club 7
'Uptown Girl' is one of my most hated songs - probably due to the uninventive schoolkids who constantly sang it to me because 'Uptown' is almost my surname. Therefore, it is muted.
I think the only Westlife song I like is 'Flying Without Wings', which must be still to come...
It was nice to have a stream of older songs there.
55. Coldplay - PARADISE (2011) (#1)
Wow, is this the biggest-selling Coldplay song?!
oh wow, Paradise has thrashed Viva La Vida I didn't think it was so far ahead! its obviously not my favourite Coldplay song, but its fantastic to see them in the top 60
oh and I did think BEPs were a little low, has Don't Stop Moving been selling really well in the last few years to be that far ahead of it?
Paradise is so much worse than most Coldplay singles.
HEY BABY
Oooh Ahhh
"Old Austrian pop star alert!" Haha I know what it is already...
54. DJ Otzi - HEY BABY (2001) (#1)
HELL YES. I don't care it's as cheesy as hell, what an epic song! "OOH! AAH!"
Another ultimate party song with "Hey! Baby"! I know all the moves!
This is another song that always makes me smile now.
AWFUL record- at the time and time has been less than kind!!
Ha at Hey Baby! what a song
My favourite memory of this is my auntie's 40th birthday in 2004, and all my grannies and other elderly relatives going nuts to this on the dancefloor.
For a moment there I thought 'Take Care' was in the Top 50.
'What's My Name' too.
53. Rihanna feat. Jay-Z - UMBRELLA (2007) (#1)
Ten weeks at #1 and not enough to break the top 50! Memories of the summer of 2007, when it rained and flooded every day. Unlike today, when...oh.
I can't wait to hear What's My Name?
Seems so wrong that this isn't in the Top 10 of the century, let alone not in the Top 50! Also... now lower than 'What's My Name?'
ten weeks at number 1 and yet not even top 50. Just imagine if it did that in 2010/2011, it would probably be challenging for the top 10!
Am I the only one getting Rihanna fatigue?
And as Scott Mills hinted, we know this one already:
52. Rihanna feat. Drake - WHAT'S MY NAME (2010) (#1)
Don't like this anywhere near as much as Umbrella, but has great memories of New Year 2011 for me. From the point when Rihanna went from merely a huge star to a massive mega superstar!
Oh had forgotten 'WMN' overtook 'U' quite a few months ago actually. December 2011:
768,669 - 4. What's My Name?
763,068 - 5. Umbrella
Hey boy, I really wanna see if you...
Nooooooooooooooooooooo. He's speaking over the end of the song.
The instrumental of What's My Name is much better.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXsT_THgy9Y
Pass Out again!
Pass Out
Just missing out on the top 50 by a whisker, it's...
51. Tinie Tempah - PASS OUT (2010) (#1)
For real this time!! "Aunt's house", "Scunthorpe" etc, ridiculous lyrics but an ULTIMATE 2010 song!
Insert generic "this sounds amazing in a club" comment here. 'Pass Out'.
First time I ever heard this song was in HMV in Oxford Street, and listening to the lyrics I thought it was a Chris Moyles parody or something. Couldn't believe it when I found out that it was the real song
"I enjoyed Steps earlier" says Greg James. Wat.
La Roux
After a massive debate about the musical merits of DJ Otzi, the top 50 begins! And OMG YES:
50. La Roux - IN FOR THE KILL (2009) (#2)
Easily, by far, one of my favourite songs of 2009 - the whole album is good. Saw her at V Festival 2010, one of the best shows of my life!
Surprised La Roux has surpassed Umbrella. I suppose it still had relatively strong sales in 2010 to do that.
2000s:
33: Umbrella - Rihanna featuring Jay-Z (2007)
35: In For The Kill - La Roux (2009)
I DESPISE La Roux.
Wonderful song, one of my favourites in the top 50.
Ooh boy, we'll be hearing way more of this girl to come:
49. Adele - MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE (2008) (#4 in 2010)
I'm not the biggest fan of Adele but this Bob Dylan cover is rather pleasant Nowhere near as overplayed as some of her stuff.
Speaking of beautiful ballads...
48. Christina Perri - JAR OF HEARTS (2011) (#4)
Simply stunning. First released in the US in 2010 but only charted here the following year. First heard this on 'Glee' of all programmes.
Jar of Hearts still sounds as beautiful as it did when I first heard it. It's had amazing longevity aswell!
It's funny how Jar of Hearts, Empire State of Mind Part II and Make You Feel My Love are all massive #4 hits.
We've got Joe McElderry in the studio, introducing the next song. Which is, of course:
47. Joe McElderry - THE CLIMB (2009) (#1)
Meh. Rage Against the Machine is better.
I prefer this to Rage Against The Machine by a lot. It's also better than Miley's original, IMO (but I just don't like Miley's voice).
The Climb is so Christmas-y! The 6th series of X Factor was the first one I've seen, and I find it was much better than 2010 and 2011's!
What happened to Miley Cyrus anyway?
Such a shame that Joe doesn't have that star appeal to be a pop star, his voice is pretty much a perfect 'recording voice'
so it occured to me that this had 2010 sales as well which is why its so far ahead of Rage this feels like it was ages ago when this was a new song, so much has changed in three years!
Yesss!! This song is amazing.
i LOVE Dilemma
Amazing song, the beat still sounds cool and fresh all these years on...sign of a classic record.
Dilemma
Sounds just a great now.
Dilemma (and Meet Me Halfway) is the closest I've ever heard to rapping on Heart FM.
46. Nelly & Kelly - DILEMMA (2002) (#1)
Absolutely hated this as a precocious 14 year old, but time's been kind to it - not too bad a listen now. Most of the stuff he did after this was pants though.
Certainly a lot of hits from November 2004 in this countdown. Strange mistake. In reality there's only 2(?) singles from 2004 in this chart.
Nelly's clothes in that video make me laugh.
Dilemma a big favourite track of mine, probably my favourite ballad
Didn't Dilemma get to #1 in the US as an album track? Or something like that I read once.
Dilemma tbh, I think this still could be a hit nowadays
I'm not sure I'd really call this a ballad, Mikey...
45. Black Eyed Peas - MEET ME HALFWAY (2009) (#1)
Cannot BELIEVE how much this has outsold Boom Boom Pow They were so huge in 2009 even the third single off the album could be such a massive seller!
I love 'Meet Me Halfway', but for some reason I never remember it being as big as this chart placement suggests it is.
Meet Me Halfway is my favourite song of 2009 (for those that didn't catch it the other 500 times I've said this ).
