The more I hear this, the more I think this could easily be a top 5 at Eurovision. The jury at Sanremo absolutely ate it up and it's obviously so modern and hit ready I can see casuals stanning

It's really quite a banger though. And definitely not stereotypically Italian.
It got quite a low televote though, I'm not sure I'd be putting it up for huge success - though then of course the Italians are very strange with their televoting priorities. |

Yeah, I saw that in the old ESCXtra chat but we hadn't posted an article yet so I held off. No news from RAI as of yet but if Mahmood does withdraw, they'll have to be keeping their backups in mind, and of course it could be any act in Sanremo.

It's really quite a banger though. And definitely not stereotypically Italian. It got quite a low televote though, I'm not sure I'd be putting it up for huge success - though then of course the Italians are very strange with their televoting priorities. I assumed that it was just because Sanremo is always mostly ballads so they just didn't quite take to Mahmood as much , but then Occidentali's Karma smashed the televote, idk if that was just a big exception. Sanremo always feels like a ballad contest and I think that's traditionally how it's been for so long that usually they're what does best. According to escxtra, Mahmood is having second thoughts about going to Eurovision. https://escxtra.com/2019/02/11/mahmood-seco...hts-eurovision/ It would be a real shame if he didn't go, unless it was Irama chosen but I doubt in practice they'd go as far down as 7th for him or 8th for Arisa, although they did when Nina Zilli came 7th in 2012 although that wasn't a winner passing it was always going to be an internal selection from all artists so hmm. I feel like they might go for Il volo if that happened with their proven track record although idk how much RAI cares to look at it like that On reflection though, I think this would do the best out of anything Sanremo had this year so it'd be a shame for them. But then again, I didn't have Non mi avete fatto niente down as striking such a chord (I was just bitter about Il mondo prima di te losing tbf at first ) so you never know. |

According to escxtra, Mahmood is having second thoughts about going to Eurovision. https://escxtra.com/2019/02/11/mahmood-seco...hts-eurovision/ He’s confirmed to be taking part now, so it’s just as well that I’m quickly coming round to it after a few more listens. Definitely the second best Italian entry after 2017 and I can see it maintaining the hype to come top 5 (or even potentially win depending on what else is to come). |

I can see it doing well in the charts internationally too, it’s top 40 on global Spotify.
