Introduced initially as a one-off character in 2007's Voyage of the Damned, Bernard Cribbins' Wilf quickly got upped to a recurring character in the fourth season following the sad death of Howard Attfield, who played Donna's dad Geoff. Wilf became a father figure for Donna, their close relationship being evident from their first scenes together on the hill in Partners in Crime - quite the contrast from the high tension scenes with mum Sylvia. Wilf supported his granddaughter's adventures and found himself embroiled in them on occasion too, firing a paint gun at a Dalek to block its vision! Wilf became a companion to the Tenth Doctor for his final adventure, where he saved Wilf from radiation before returning him home. 11. Wilfred Mott (7 votes | 35.00%) 12. Rory Williams (7 votes | 25.00%) 13. Nardole (5 votes | 20.00%) 14. Yasmin Khan (9 votes | 36.00%) 15. Mickey Smith (5 votes | 20.00%) 16. Graham O'Brien (8 votes | 32.00%) 17. Ryan Sinclair (10 votes | 20.41%) 18. Adam Mitchell (15 votes | 30.61%) |

Clara for me this time… probably the only main companion pre 13 that I didn’t love. To me Jackie Tyler had more iconic moments than Clara did

funny how all the male companions, bar one who had his own TV series, have now gone..... Jackie again. I think the problem with most of the male companions is that they're just not developed enough - Mickey and Rory were extensions of Rose and Amy respectively, and Nardole wasn't even intended as a companion at the start of series 10 so we didn't get as much time with him as we should have. Wilf obviously wasn't a companion for very long, and, well, Graham and Ryan did have enough time to develop but the writing... I like most of these characters but both RTD and Moffat did really well at creating strong female characters that just can't be beaten! |

I’ve gone for Sarah Jane but that’s probably a bit unfair considering I’ve never seen her spin-off. I absolutely loved her during the Tennant era though - I wish there were more crossovers in the main show.
